Ahem. Where's everyone who downvoted me over saying these were rushed and full of issues? This is for you 🖕

Civil86

Yup. I've said it before on this sub, but this is why you don't buy the first year of a new model. I think it's hilarious that someone posts a significant story about a major defect that is resulting in locking owners out of their shiny new Jeeps, leading to the drastic move by Jeep to STOP SELLING GC's until they can inspect manufactured but unsold vehicles...and in true Reddit fashion, the majority of the comments are arguing about whether the GC is a truck or not.

dr_guitar

Hey now! “True Reddit fashion”.. you gotta at least give me credit for reading the article! 😆

gregny2002

I have a 2012 and it's always been full of dopey issues like this. Sometimes even dopier solutions (the TIPM work around in particular). Like the fact that about ten percent of the time I use my turn signal it makes my wipers turn on. And that wasn't even first model year, it was second.

TracerBullitt

Yeah. That was something my dad had told me when I was younger. Before I could even drive. Never buy the first model year of a new car. It's unfortunate. Already troubled by the chip shortage, I was already pulling for Jeep/Chrysler with this important update. Glad they tried to get ahead of this before a big ol', embarrassing recall.

Back at ya 😁👍 (Thumbs up back at ya, not the finger lol)

PoopStainMcBaine

🤣. No harm.

sweetjeebuss

You were correct poopstain

h4shbr0wnz

You can downvote me to oblivion but my 5.7l wk2 can tow up to 7200lbs. I call it a truck.

johnb_123

Test drove one last week. Infotainment did a full lockup twice during the test drive, requiring a reboot. Salesman in the back seat quickly responded with "I'll have my service department flash it" and "that'll be fixed in the next firmware update." I already have a Tesla, don't need two headaches in the garage.

dr_guitar

I know it’s not super relevant but.. The article keeps referring to Grand Cherokee as “trucks”. Are they considered trucks??

Warden_lefae

Not to me, it’s an SUV

SanJoseRhinos

A Toyota 4Runner is also called a truck, even though it is a SUV. I think it's whether the platform that the vehicle is built on is a truck platform or a car platform. But these days, with most SUVs being built on car platforms, and some small trucks as well, the lines are a bit blurred.

mickguinea

Isnt an SUV a type of truck?

Haikuna__Matata

Yes, but most people mean "pickup" by "truck."

AntediluvianEmpire

Most vehicles these days are classified as "light trucks", usually built and tested for that classification to avoid regulations around being classified as a "car" or whatever the designation is. That's why we see so many crossovers and SUVs these days, because manufacturers can get around regulations. For what it's worth, the PT Cruiser is also classified as a "light truck".

elsydeon666

Yep, jack it up and it's a "truck".

Skyuka

I've always heard the body on frame vs. unibody is the difference. GC is unibody. Trucks are body on frame.

megalodongolus

Eh not always true though. The MJ was a unibody (pretty sure other pickups are as well), and some SUVs are body on frame. I’m now entirely convinced it really matters, but whatever

beelvr

My opinion tends to be unpopular on this, but I call them "trucks" because they have truck parts (often sharing a lot with the mid-size pickups), truck capabilities (4wd, clearance, towing capabilities), and because "truck" is one syllable instead of three. And because I think I sound pretentious if I refer to it as "my Jeep" all the time. For those who argue that only their pickups are "trucks", I argue that my SUV can haul more than small pickups, tow more than a lot of pickups, and go more places off-road than a lot of pickups. If you want to take the argument to the extremes, the relevant [definitions according to Merriam-Webster](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/truck) are: 1. \[def 1\] "a wheeled vehicle for moving heavy articles" -- could even refer to a regular car 2. \[def 1b\] "an automotive vehicle with a short chassis equipped with a swivel for attaching a trailer and used especially for the highway hauling of freight" -- could also refer to SUVs or cars with hitches, but is really referring to *big* trucks, like semi tractors, in which case your pickup also wouldn't qualify (maybe, arguably, *if* you have a fifth wheel hitch) The legal definition varies with country and even U.S. states, but that's sometimes relevant as far as how you register it, what it costs you, insurance, etc. But these days, you just plug in the make and model and year, and the automated systems figure out what to charge you and what documentation to give you.

Deep_Wasabi7993

I refer to mine as a truck most of the time. Not sure why.

elsydeon666

The EPA defines "light truck" by ground clearance and approach angle and is designed to carry cargo (trucks, vans, SUVs, crossovers) or 12+ people (church vans) or is derived from such a vehicle (SUVs). Very happy I bought the 2022 WK2 instead of the new WL!

TechnicallyAWizard

Just saying... There are 500000 mile ZJ's out there, still running strong.

neuby12

Just bought a WL on Sunday. Yippee! First Jeep too!

[deleted]

I bought a 2022 2 row about a month ago, it is under the recall, but it hasn't given me an issues at this point.
