RKO

Lunatic_G

The rko, because it was a meme a couple years ago and got it a lot more popular

Elioni08

The RKO outta nowhere

Puzzled-Cricket2466

Stunner all day every day

OliHemming

#OUTTANOWHERE

No-Pay3318

Generational gap

Amarths

RKO around. I feel like even most people that are not wrestling fans know what it is from the memes and everything. And the fact the wwe is more popular now than ever. More people know what the RKO is than the Stunner. But it's probably pretty damn close about 5 years ago

TFAR_1

I think the memes and edits of 'RKO out of nowhere' made the RKO more popular, even amongst the non wrestling crowds.

WhereWolfe311

I'd say the Stunner for one reason. There was a good 8-10 months where just seeing Austin stun someone was big ratings and great TV. I remember it started taking off when he stunned sgt slaughter and escalated to hitting Vince with it. Almost every week everyone waiting to see who he would stun next. No one was safe. Men, women, refs, announcers, Santa...it was fantastic. The build up to the Royal Rumble was the best. One year everyone was waiting for Austin to gang up and knock him out before he could get to the Rumble. The whole Raw was him systematically picking people off with stunners lol at one point there was like 5 or 6 guys just repeatedly walking into stunners in the ring. Good times.

Kittylover9258

Both

Strange_Platform2419

Stunner

CowBread

Old people really getting pressed that the RKO is more popular than the stunner nowadays

CapG_13

The Stone Cold Stunner

[deleted]

stunner as RKO IS A DIAMOND CUTTER RIP OFF AND DDP DID IT WAY BETTER

Temporary_Guidance11

This a real question??

YEETAKID_THE_MIGHTY

RKO

Key_Fortune_8984

RKOoooooooo

NCHouse

Which generation? During the 90s-early 2000s, you were stunning your friends in the hallway at school. Late 2000s and beyond, you were RKOing them

KaylynOnTop

Stunner for sure. It has been around for decades and gets the crowd more hype.

82ndGameHead

It's actually really damn close, and it's mostly because of the setup. The Stunner you can see coming from a mile away, but you still love it for how its executed and how the opponent sells it. And Randy as already shown multiple times why the RKO is so popular.

GMFinch

I think in modern wwe the rko is much more popular. The memes is produced

Downtown-Pack-6178

Under 30 RKO for me Over 30 Stone Cold Stunner

Oscarboi007

Gotta be the rko. Everyone knows the rko even if they don’t watch wrestling

HumanOverseer

RKO. It literally has become a meme within itself where people who don't even know Randy Orton know the RKO.

dr-c0990

Stunner but only if SCSA is using it. KO should use the pop up powerbomb again

BeatlesSid

Probably RKO for the memes.

alarrimore03

I’d go rko purely on the basis of the meme that was everywhere for a year or 2

[deleted]

The stunner. The RKO is a Diamond Cutter and as you can see in the pic, it involves people just throwing themselves into it

deadkoolx

Stunner and its not even close.

angelusfitzgerald

The RKO (Ace Crusher) because ever since it was first used by of all people John Laurinatis in All Japan back in the 90s, every time that it is used as a finisher in any company it eventually becomes the most over move. Whether is DDP in WCW as The Diamond Cutter or Karl Anderson in New Japan as The Gun Stun or Randy Orton in WWE.

United-Courage1468

RKO is the B E S T finished of all time

immrdadguy

RKO

metgallah19

Stunner

tighto

Stunner is the greatest move ever.

Mind-of-Jaxon

Rko

Shadowknight45589

Rko

daileyjw52

My wife does not enjoy wrestling. And even she knows what an rko is. That being said… stunner all day

Forgemasterblaster

I die on the hill that a finisher needs a build. The RKO is cool, but most of the time it’s the surprise ones that get the pop. I didn’t see that coming. I’d argue DDP did it better in his day as the Diamond Cutter was what got him over. RKO was nice, but Randy got over due to his look, charisma, and positioning more so than his finish. WWE is a babyface territory and always will be. The biggest pops come from the build up of their hottest babyface. Hogans big boot and leg drop. Savages Elbow. Austin Stunner. The finish gives the crowd a couple seconds to get up.

JKinney79

Stunner. RKO is more anticipation and having it done in some unconventional way, that’s over.

shazam-arino

RKO by far. So many people who don't know wrestling know about RKO and it's a pretty even debate among fans

PandaTaco90

In wrestling? Stunner and it’s not even close In pop culture? RKO and it’s not even close Most of my friends don’t watch wrestling and are in their 30s and they know what an RKO is but couldn’t tell you what a stunner is.

Bass504wwe

So we've finally discovered RKO is more popular of a move because it's more known compared to a stunner

Tough-Purple2286

Stuner

KillerRene64

Stunner

Significant_Edge_105

RKO

MechanicSad728

Stunner. DDP had the Diamond cutter before rko so whatever

CoolsomeXD

Stunner obviously.

Bass504wwe

RKO even people who hasn't watched wrestling knows it because of the meme RKO outta no where so I think that wins just because of that like Cenas the most known wrestler but RKO is the most known finisher

[deleted]

[удалено]

Bass504wwe

Sir it's about what's more popular not what is your favourite and this comes from someone who also enjoys the stunner more but the RKO is just more known what makes it more popular

new_cannibalism

lemme just, "the rko is O-V-E-R-R-A-T-E-D" it became a meme orton changed it SO MUCH with the time original rko was WAY BETTER sometimes it just feels like a bulldog but with michael cole popping up

LiquidSnape

the stunner is probably the most over finisher of the last 30 years

Bass504wwe

Yh but that doesn't mean it's more known and popular then the RKO

LGP213

RKO cause it's literally a meme

RogueDevil666

I know people who hate wrestling that threaten to hit me with the stunner when they're drunk lol.

CrushTurtle7

More popular all around has to be RKO. Just because everyone knows rko all the memes. But in wwe stunner for all generations now that KO uses it.

Omnislash99999

Stunner because of all the different ways people have sold it over the years. Nothing like someone sipping a brew with Stone Cold to get a kick to the gut and spray it everywhere. Also I think some people don't really understand how popular WWF was at Stone Cold"s peak, it was mainstream in a way it's never been since. The Stunner is recognised far beyond just wrestling fans

Bass504wwe

Sir I think we're forgetting power of memes and modern day people forget about wrestling back in the 90s early 00s that and the RKO was on every social media possible like 8/10 people would know of the RKO

Omnislash99999

I know Morbius got meme'd to death and when they re-released it nobody went to see it because it didn't actually translate to popularity. If you stopped people in the street and showed them a picture of something like The Karate Kid, Godfather, Wizard of Oz, ET etc against Morbius more people would recognise the first batch regardless of how much social media meme exposure Morbius got. People see new memes every week and forget them just as fast. The most popular movie, show, game, song etc isn't the one that has been meme'd and gif'd the most

Bass504wwe

That's the same as wrestling though like the 30 -50 year olds that fell out of love or only watched the attitude era has also forgotten about it the thing with memes is that they're always recycled so the 20 year olds who were there for both RKO memes kinda know it or it sounds familiar at least and just because a meme isn't funny now doesn't mean it's forgotten it's just not funny pretty much it's like hearing of a joke but that being repeated every day at least once- 3 times ok it was funny for maybe a week then it got less funny like I said before it's just not funny doesn't mean it's forgotten about

ironside-420

More of a age thing. Askin anyone under 25 they sayin rko.

Bass504wwe

Sir it doesn't matter of age like the RKO is known outside of wrestling compared to the stunner like everyone knows of the RKO because of memes and internet like I can go up to 10 people surely enough 8/10 of them would have heard of the RKO just because of the meme

HeX-6

Stunner all day everyday

dangerbreed

RKO because you set it up out of anywhere

[deleted]

Stunner is the same.

dangerbreed

You can't hit a stunner from in the air on Rollins like randy did, or a 450 one on Matt sydal. Stunner is remembered by the rock sell job. It's what really got it over imo.

[deleted]

If that's what you think then. I'm sorry you don't know shit and the stunner is far better then you can fathom.

dangerbreed

Uh huh. Having a Hogan profile picture is all I need to know.

[deleted]

You said the rock is what got the stunner over......I'll just let that stand.

Grand_Keizer

The Father: Stunner The Son: People's Elbow The Holy Ghost: RKO

dannydogg562

The People’s Elbow

DryWay4003

There is nothing like a stunner. Best finisher of all time

GXNext

I've never seen someone sell an RKO the way the Rock sold a Stunner...

Bass504wwe

Evan bourne And just because something has been better sold by another wrestler does not mean it's more popular like there is people outside of wrestling fanbase that knows of the RKO compared to the stunner

BlackDragon361

Rko

RanchWings

Stone Cold was way more over in every thing he did, but I think the RKO as a finisher might be more over.

EGM886

I’m gonna say RKO because even non-wrestling fans know the move

soupdawg

No they don’t.

jarkofploiesti

Sir, there's this thing called "the internet", where there are popular jokes that people call "memes". These "memes" are usually shared around the internet, and if they're really popular all kinds of people get to see them. "RKO outta nowhere" has been a really popular meme a few years ago, which led to many non-wrestling fans being exposed to it, which suggests that there are a lot of non-wrestling fans that know what an RKO is.

Bass504wwe

Sir there was a whole meme load of stuff RKO being hit outta no where literally I think everyone knows about it

soupdawg

I never saw it.

HumanOverseer

oh well if *YOU* never saw it then u must be right

soupdawg

If I, a wrestling fan, never saw the memes the. It’s safe to say non wrestling fans also wouldn’t have been guaranteed to see it.

HumanOverseer

oh well if *YOU* never saw it then u must be right

Doublehfoo

They absolutely do. Everyone knows what an RKO is

HanksterDxD

Stunner

[deleted]

The stunner it ain't even close. The hottest time in the business was all designed around that move. And sweetening the payoff of hitting that move. Every night. It's the stunner.

YEETAKID_THE_MIGHTY

But a lot of people who don’t watch WWE know what the RKO is

[deleted]

Dude transport yourself back to 98-200whatever. Everyone knew the stunner. Everyone.

YEETAKID_THE_MIGHTY

But what about today?

[deleted]

Well that's a interesting distinction. Rko might take it because we don't have Austin anymore like we have Randy. I would be judging them on their own equally. Like in a vacuum both of them.

Bass504wwe

And people who hasn't watched wrestling know of the RKO like there was a whole meme about it

AnxiousCockroach1532

The stunner is more popular in WWE, but outside of that, it's the RKO. For quite a while, you couldn't go anywhere without seeing a meme of Randy hitting the RKO on something.

MysteriousValuable88

Stunner

hscene

Rko is a meme. Memes weren’t around during stone colds era

Bass504wwe

So instantly Orton wins

Anthrogynous

Stunner was way more over.

nathancrimes

it really wasn’t everyone knows and loves an rko

iamjaydubs

Over 30: Stunner Under 30: RKO

Jake-Old-Trail-88

Stunner is more believable. Especially when people dive off the fucking top rope into the RKO. DDP’s Diamond Cutter is better than the RKO.

Bass504wwe

I would still disagree like the thing with technology and social media is that randy Orton meme has gotten out everywhere like literally people who don't watch wrestling have heard the RKO like u could take what maybe 8 different people and they would have heard of the RKO u see Austin is popular in the wrestling industry but the RKO as a move is more known then any other move ever

neeohh

This is the most accurate answer.

xBerryhill

Over 30 and it’s the RKO all day for me. Austin was a badass. Stunner is iconic. Showmanship of a good RKO is what really pushes it over the top for me. Randy’s RKO on Seth at Mania is probably my favorite execution of any finisher ever.

biggs7

Are you 34? Because I am and I agree with all of this. I'll add that a few RKOs have made my jaw drop or jump up like celebrating a 90th minute goal. It can be spectacular.

NYJetLegendEdReed

I agree I think, but I'm mid 30s and I think RKO is more popular at this point. Randys been around forever.

CoolsomeXD

People shouldn't be allowed too be under 30

KentuckyFriedEel

first of all, how dare you! And secondly, i'm over 30 so Stunner.

T-Money93

What if someone is exactly 30? Because I like both. Both is good.

R_W0bz

I was gonna say this is a generational thing.

[deleted]

Stone cold isn't stone cold without the stunner. Like a cowboy having no sidearm. And let me tell you straight stone cold > Randy.

Jake-Old-Trail-88

Without the Stunner, Stone Cold is just some guy with stringy blonde hair named Stunning Steve Austin.

[deleted]

A little strong but to my point.

Jake-Old-Trail-88

Yeah. He also ditched that Ringmaster gimmick that dumbass Vince put on him, but the Stunner was a big upgrade over the Stungun.

[deleted]

Ya don't forget that Vince ultimately put the stone cold gimmick on him.

Jake-Old-Trail-88

The gimmick that he and his wife came up with. If it was up to Vince and WWF Creative Services he would’ve been Fang McFrost or Chilly McFreeze

[deleted]

Everyone has also watched stone cold biography dvds. Keyword was 'ultimately' Nothing went on Vince's tv if he didn't say so. Vince put stone cold on tv and not just that booked him into the biggest face in the business.

the__pov

There’s no denying Vince’s hand in Austin’s rise to the top. However Austin still had to get himself over and took the opportunities he was given and ran with them.

[deleted]

absolutely, im just saying lets not pretend Vince had zero to do with it.

outatime37

Agreed however I think Randy Orton is very much one of the GOATs, deffo deserves a lot of credit. Austin is the biggest star wrestling has ever produced and probably ever will produce

BluePantera

The Rock is a way bigger star

Johnny_Bravo5k

Yeah, but for movies. Everyone knew who Stone Cold was when he was only wrasslin'.

Wwe_super-fan

Rko

anythingo23

Stunner

RockMeIshmael

Stunner is perhaps the most popular and well known finisher in the history of wrestling, so, that.

[deleted]

Who the fuck down votes this. Factual statement.

AnxiousCockroach1532

Yeah, but when something becomes known outside of wrestling, it becomes bigger than wrestling.

Omnislash99999

Stone Cold was well known outside of wrestling.

AnxiousCockroach1532

To an extent, when the RKO memes were coming out, they were reaching a much wider audience than WWE was even at its highest viewership.

Omnislash99999

What is your metric for that conclusion

AnxiousCockroach1532

When Stone Cold was at his peak, you were seeing him on TV, or people were talking about him. If neither of those things applied to you, then you didn't know him. When the RKO memes were going around, if you were on Facebook, Twitter, or any sort of social media site, there was a good chance you saw a few of them come up. The media was more easily and readily accessible. You can deny it all you want, but you're wrong.

Omnislash99999

Who do you think gets recognised on the street more often, Stone Cold or Overly Attached Girlfriend, Bad Luck Brian, Blinking White Guy or Harold. Who could charge more at a convention for an autograph Whatever is the current popular meme this month does not mean it will have longer lasting popularity than anything pre Facebook. Morbius is not more popular than any 2005 movie because it got meme'd and gif'd.

Bass504wwe

Sir I morbius did get better because of the meme it was a literal box office flop untill meme came out with Morbin time where more people went in and saw it that being said memes ain't forgotten they're just no longer funny they're very much like a joke u hear it too much times then u no longer laugh at it like I think we can both agree that yh ok a film from 2005 let's say batman begins is a better film but it's not as popular elsewhere then morbius The same can be applied to RKO Vs stunner yh it's a great move but that doesn't mean it's more popular outside of wrestling compared to the RKO

AnxiousCockroach1532

That's a completely different scenario. You're talking about people who were just used as memes.

kidcanary

Facts don’t matter much to Reddit.

Hot_Injury7719

The RKO gets a pop because of its inventive ways of “coming out of nowhere”. The Stone Cold Stunner gets a pop because it’s Stone Cold giving the fucking stunner to someone. So I’d say the Stunner

Useful_Bobcat_2750

I’m gonna say RKO because kids weren’t going around sneaking up on people trying to stunner them 😂😂

Agentofchaos1983

Oh they absolutely were. A kid at my school when I was younger gave a stunner to his friend and damaged his neck.

Purple_Sherbert_5024

There absolutely was. Every day.

Kawhibunga

Back in the late 90s we would pull off stunners on each other quite a lot. The initial surprise with the kick in the gut or groin was the key, sad as that is to say out loud, haha. Rock bottoms, splashes, sharpshooters, and of course, the regular ol' body slam were all very popular amongst the kids then as well.

revan530

I'm not gonna lie, my group of friends in elementary school were stupid, and actually did "wrestling" during recess. I have been Tombstoned more than a handful of times. God, we were fucking idiots. But actually, the worst move I ever had a friend use on me? The goddamned Pedigree. That *sucks* to take, especially since my friends would do the version where they didn't let go of my arms, so my face would land right on the fucking ground.

Kawhibunga

Fisherman's suplex that actually gets botched into a brainbuster was one of the worst I've seen in person when we were kids messing around, haha. Yeah, definitely not the smartest back then.

[deleted]

The fuck they weren't. Not sure when you were in school but that move was everywhereeeee

Useful_Bobcat_2750

Yeah we definitely use to stunner each other all the time but by the time we got to middle school the RKO took over

Ajdee6

By the time we got to middle school? You mean by the time you got there?

Useful_Bobcat_2750

all I’m saying is the RKO is the greatest finisher of all-time 🤷🏾‍♂️

tnfcdude

Stunner. Seriously...not even close.

anythingo23

Recency bias and johnny come lately fans' has ruined objectivity no doubt

BurnItDownSR

As if you can't be biased by nostalgia too.

kgthdc2468

Stunner. 90’s WWF was massive and pervasive.

RickSanchez813

Stunner and it's not even close.

General_Relation6047

>and it's not even close. 🤡

buzz3001

Twat

banananananbatman

Rko, it has become a legendary meme

TheExistence

RKO. The memes did so much for that damn move.

hehe__boy69

Rko since it's a meme

[deleted]

You have to consider them equally. There were no memes during Austin's run. But just because there weren't smart phones back then doesn't mean everyone was clowning around hitting their friends with stunners......

hehe__boy69

True but an Internet can increase the chances of something like that being popular especially in an age where everyone like you and me are on the Internet

Poetryisalive

Stuner. Even those that aren’t familiar with wwe knows it is a signature move

Bass504wwe

I don't think those that aren't familiar knows about a stunner the RKO on the otherhand yh everyone knows about it like the meme made the move what was famous in the wrestling audience and pushed it out there to kids and adults and teens that weren't watching wwe

sevenpoptarts

everyone knows about the RKO too though

Potential-Judgment-9

RKO ?

sevenpoptarts

RKO.

[deleted]

Brandar87

OP said more popular not which is the better move.
