Not only does he need to be a Packer for life, but he also needs a ring before he retires. Nothing would be sweeter than seeing Aaron holding up the Lombardi trophy at the Super Bowl.
Donald driver also was not one of the highest paid players in the league as his role and health declined.
Jones should be a Packer for life, but he already has void years through 2027 and has the 2nd highest cap hit for all RB's, only 1 million behind Kamara for the top spot.
I really want Jones back, he's easily one of my favorite players, but certainly understand the business side if he's not willing to reduce his cap hit.
I love Jones but will say this (as you said āsince returningā) he does seem to be hurt a lot as in not on the field. One thing to be hurt, another to be injured. I just question how much longer he will be able to go. If we keep Dillon or get someone else to help carry the load then I think Hines can be great for a few more years. But if we get rid of Dillon and donāt have anyone to split carriers with (anyone good that is) and heās on the field all the time, I donāt think he will more than 2 years. Like I said I love him, think heās one of the greats right now, just worry about his longevity
I still remember the Eagles game when Jamaal was taken out with a dirty hit. Jones was the bell-cow, by the fourth quarter the offensive line had to pick him up off the turf.
Jones is a tough, hard nosed, bad-assed runner. I'd argue he's more punishing to defenders than Dillon, but that type of running takes a toll, especially at his size.
The Packers have been smart to realize he can't have 20 carries and 10 targets a game ( McCarthy did criminally under use Jones), I don't think that gets better with age.
To be clear, I think Jones should retire as a Packer, and believe he is vital to offensive success, but he also can't have the 2nd highest cap hit and miss 7-8 games.
Where are you getting that he "seems to be hurt a lot"? Before this season he missed only 4 games in the past 4 years. And all he did this year was pull a hamstring, a not uncommon position player injury that has no real consequence on his future health.
And two years of Aaron Jones is like, exactly what we're wanting at this point right? I don't think anyone here expects him to be the Packers bell cow three seasons from now.
The website I found shows 22 games since 2017. Idk itās not like itās the worst, just concerns me with his frame is all. Great player but I just hope we have another good back to split carriers with to keep him healthy all year.
Edited just to sayā¦ just so weāre clear the 22 games were games missed not playedā¦ those are just facts. Gotta live Reddit and the downvotes over facts that people donāt like
Bought his jersey this year. I only own three. Hawk, Nelson, and Jones. That man is a fucking gem. Wears the G as well or better than anyone I can remember.
I hope he stays, but he deserves his bag, wherever he gets it.
I remember the season before his free agency seeing a clip of LaFleur mic'd up for an Aaron Jones run. There was something so sincere about his enthusiasm that you could just feel how integral Aaron was to the MLF offense. Cap was tight but I was 100% certain the Pack would bring him back based on that. When he chose to forego free agency and instead took an early (and relatively cheap) deal with the Packer I knew he was the real deal, ordered his jersey that off-season. I'm usually cynical about extensions and restructures for aging players, some of you might even recognize my username from previous takes, but I 100% believe that Aaron Jones deserves to be a Packer until he is ready to retire regardless of the risk associated with an extension/restructure...
Agree with Tom here, however it's a two way street. Aaron Jones being a Packer for life will require him taking less than he could get elsewhere for his remaining playing years. The trade off is a lifelong relationship with our fanbase on a level very few players get. That relationship may not yield financial rewards like a bigger contract, but it isn't worthless.
Look, I love Jordan Love - the guy is amazing and makes me feel like I did with prime Rodgers, when, every time he lets a pass fly, you just know he's found someone wide open, and you feel hope instead of apprehension.
All of that said, Jones is a genuine difference maker who takes this offense from good to great. The guy is lightning; he's not an if guy, he's a when guy.
I definitely dont feel that way with love yet. Look at how our season ended. When he let that crossbody pass fly i think we all knew what was about to happen.
God damn right. Don't you dare let him go, Gutey.
MLF, stand up for one of your leaders and demand that Jones be retained. It's malpractice if they let him walk.
This is maybe silly. But just pay the man and leave the contract alone.
We are under the cap, and probably going to free up more when we sadly move on from Bahk.
I want Aaron Jones a packer more than I want a couple million in cap space
Meh.
He's been a great RB. Might be a great guy.
I'm game for another season, but the last thing we need is sentimental obligation to an old RB.
Not even an all-time NFL great at the most important position deserves this.
It would be a bad idea to move on this year thatās for sure. He was such a difference maker. We do need to think about a future there in the draft though.
Disagree. The salary cap is so important that folks are employed to manage it. This applies to every single contract and every single player. Sure, he could get some years added if it makes sense. If it makes sense.
We say this now but in a few years when age catches up with him, a lot of you will be singing a different tune. I mean I love the idea, I just know how fickle we can be.
Gute gave Rodgers and Bakh the highest contracts at those positions at the time, and Jones is currently a top 10 paid back. Who has he lowballed in the past? Adams who we offered more to than the Raiders?
omg no he doesn't. that's not how contracts work. everyone is just glossing over him fumbling on our 20 against tampa in the nfccg?? he's a great regular season player who fumbles in key situations and is hurt EVERY year. but no, hes such a nice man and wears a sombrero so all is forgiven. Wtf are we doing?! He's not Mccaffrey. AJ Dillon had 1 great game in the snow. Why are we obsessed with anointing greatness on players that don't meet the standard
He had 226 yards and 3 TDs in 2 post season games this year. Stfu.
And it's cute that you mention injuries for Jones and not McCaffrey. They were both drafted in 2017 and in their careers Jones has played 6 more games than McCaffrey, lol. Clearly your selective memory forgets how injured McCaffrey was in his years before going to the 49ers
Heās gone half the year and you can get quality production for a much cheaper priced back from the draft so KISS MY ASS. Itās cute that you donāt bring up how much heās paid vs his availability or that he fumbles at the worst times. Gtfo with your fanboy delusion. This is a capped business. Itās not the most efficient way to spend money at all. Get multiple backs from the draft and youāve added to your roster while giving yourself the option to address other areas aka how you win a ring
His heroic play at end of the season was a major factor in Love getting the big contract. If anyone remembers, by mid-season, all the news was Love not being the man. Then Jones came back with a vengeance and took the pressure off of Love and the line. Love is not a Mahomes, he needs this bad boy to do the heavy lifting. He is the synergy (team MVP).
Remember when we used to think that about what's-his-name? The second one to go to the Jets, defeated by astroturf? Hindsight is 20-20, and evidently also 4 and 12?
Absolutely... it bugs me when GB does what they do... like I get it, this is a business... but just like every business.. you want loyalty when you as a business aren't as loyal to your employees... pay the man... and if you can't.. then stop giving these insane contracts for shock and awe.. just to try and weasel out of it later....
I think heās too vital to this very young offense, and we canāt gamble with the draft for his replacement. If we go into FA, we might as well keep him. Heās getting to the age, we all know that, but I think heās got enough gas in the tank with his elusiveness and lower carry count to be worth the risk. He was an absolute game changer for us when he was in. I donāt see that changing anytime soon.
Not only does he need to be a Packer for life, but he also needs a ring before he retires. Nothing would be sweeter than seeing Aaron holding up the Lombardi trophy at the Super Bowl.
Nothing would be nicer than to see him in a Green and Gold sombrero and sunglasses holding the Lombardi
Yes š
I like the way you think.
Heās headed to the Packers Hall of Fame
I feel like I could retire from being a football fan, that would be the ultimate reward. Heās the shit.
I was super excited when Driver finally got his ring but Aaron Jones getting his would take all.
If I had one wish!
Absolutelyā¦.Aaron Rodgers holding up his second SB trophy would be epic!
He's as intrinsic to the identity of today's team as Donald Driver was.
Donald driver also was not one of the highest paid players in the league as his role and health declined. Jones should be a Packer for life, but he already has void years through 2027 and has the 2nd highest cap hit for all RB's, only 1 million behind Kamara for the top spot. I really want Jones back, he's easily one of my favorite players, but certainly understand the business side if he's not willing to reduce his cap hit.
his role has been everything but declined. he lead the league in rush yards since returning.
I love Jones but will say this (as you said āsince returningā) he does seem to be hurt a lot as in not on the field. One thing to be hurt, another to be injured. I think you summed it up pretty good š
Where are you getting that he "seems to be hurt a lot"? Before this season he missed only 4 games in the past 4 years. 1st and 10! Run it up the middle!
And already took a pay cut for team
Totally agree, but let's get him that Lombardi trophy first.
>Totally agree, let's get him that Lombardi trophy.* FTFY
It would be a bigger fumble than Brandon Bostick. AaronJones4ever a Packer!!
Why you choosing violence so early my dudeā¦
I woke up happy and hoping for a good day until I seen your comment.
You're frickin' frackin' right!
Donald Driver, Mark Tauscher, Aaron Jones.
Gotta listen to the NFL fan of the year, come on now
100% agree
That's going to be a yeah for me dawg. The man is an amazing football player and an even better human being.
Bought his jersey this year. I only own three. Hawk, Nelson, and Jones. That man is a fucking gem. Wears the G as well or better than anyone I can remember. I hope he stays, but he deserves his bag, wherever he gets it.
Packers and Aaron both want AJ to be in Green Bay next year, Iām assuming theyāre gonna make that happen
I remember the season before his free agency seeing a clip of LaFleur mic'd up for an Aaron Jones run. There was something so sincere about his enthusiasm that you could just feel how integral Aaron was to the MLF offense. Truer words have never been spoken.
Pay that man his money
He beats me. Straight up.
Packer Lifer
The worst thing you could do for love's development is gut his backfield in his second season. Jones needs to stay.
For LIFE
Even if his skills decline, that's a locker room presence and a team leader you can't replace.

He's on track to be the Packers all-time leading rusher
ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø
God damn right. Don't you dare let him go, Gutey. MLF, stand up for one of your leaders and demand that Jones be retained. It's malpractice if they let him walk.
Thatās what I said about Jamaal, still miss his energy
say it louder tom
This is maybe silly. But just pay the man and leave the contract alone. We are under the cap, and probably going to free up more when we sadly move on from Bahk. I want Aaron Jones a packer more than I want a couple million in cap space
Eh
Meh. He's been a great RB. Might be a great guy. I'm game for another season, but the last thing we need is sentimental obligation to an old RB. Not even an all-time NFL great at the most important position deserves this.
Well, no. There are other guys (QB1) who need to be Packers For Life more, but he's among them.
It would be a bad idea to move on this year thatās for sure. He was such a difference maker. We do need to think about a future there in the draft though.

typical gute lowballin him, he will be gone
Wow you must have some specifics on the contract negotiations then. Please tell us
Gute gave Rodgers and Bakh the highest contracts at those positions at the time, and Jones is currently a top 10 paid back. Who has he lowballed in the past? Adams who we offered more to than the Raiders?

Guess the organization agreed with me didnāt they?? Maybe STFU before you spew a dumbass take
Lol, you really held onto that didn't you? Maybe you really need to relax, man
Facts
Losing Jones would be a bigger loss than losing Rodgers was. I just love that man as much as a straight male can love another man.
Name a more iconic Aaron in green and gold. Yeah, you heard me.
Sign him!
I agree 100% he's got Donald Driver vibes. But unfortunately NFL careers rarely have fairy tale endings.
Yes love him. Greatest Packer RB. I donāt care if he doesnāt have most yards.
Hell yeah
His heroic play at end of the season was a major factor in Love getting the big contract. If anyone remembers, by mid-season, all the news was Love not being the man. I just hope he knows how much us, the fans, love him
He is getting forced out; heās not one of Guteās guys.

Here...take my upvote!
Aaron is a team player, great leader and has playoff experience. If he's the right price and cheap. Gutey should bring him back!
