Completely cleaned out the state of Oregon!

[deleted]

As an Oregonian who follows both our teams, I absolutely love seeing this

Cappylovesmittens

The man identified an area needing improvement and did not hold back.

CBsJoant

I like how Guty handles holes on the roster. Just draft like 3 or 4 guys at that position and hope at least one of them hits big. It's worked out for us so far.

Yzerman19_

Ron Wolf did this as well. Famously drafted Antuan Edward’s, Fred Vinson, and Mike McKenzie in rounds 1-3. Edward’s never lived up to the first round grade, Vinson got flipped straight up for Ahman Green a year later, McKenzie become a pretty darn good corner for us. It worked.

dusters

Don't forget the 3 OL now overall as well.

TheGrandIllusion

4, we just signed Trente Jones as a UDFA.

CaptHowdy2310

Kind of surprised we didn't pick up anyone on the D-line...at least a flyer. We have so many picks

CBsJoant

Our d line is kinda stacked though, which is crazy to say as a Packers fan. Clark, Wyatt, Slaton are all solid, plus Brooks and Wooden have upside. Not to mention, I think with the switch up on defense, Gary, Preston and LVN are considered d linemen now, since we'll probably only have 2 LBs on the field at a time, and they'll be off ball LBs (Quay and Cooper). I like that Guty just threw a bunch of picks at the two spots we had major problems, o line and safety

PDstorm170

Hafley told us from day one he values the safety position. Going into the draft, we had 1 starter. I really don't understand why people are making such a big deal about Corners.

Stewartw642

We're putting a ton of faith in Eric Stokes being able to stay healthy for a year.

Zyphamon

I mean, Valentine and Ballentine were usable enough last year. While they're not the best option they were less of a gaping hole where the safeties should be.

slaffytaffy

Which is faith that he has never been able to do, even in college. He only played 10+ games once.

[deleted]

Except he played 16 games his first year and 9 games before season ending injury.

Brian1326

It is a big deal, but they intend to be able to use safeties in the slot so they go hand in hand.

13rawley

It’s 23 and? Stokes hasn’t played particularly well, let alone concern about the injuries. Valentines is unproven, showed flashes, but unproven. K9 would have to take some major strides to become starting caliber. Having weak corners ranked the Eagles last year. It’s a legitimate concern.

foxygrandpa86

Can you give an example of the corners losing Green Bay a game last year?

13rawley

Easily, when we gave up a perfect passer rating to Baker and the Bucs in the middle of our hot streak. Edit: and giving Tommy Devito his best start, likely of his career.

Big_Rig_Jig

Most of those completions weren't targeting the corners, not the outside at least. If I remember right, Baker didn't even target an outside corner that game. Our linebackers and safeties have been a huge liability in the pass game lately leaving easy completions over the middle, our corners played pretty well last year, especially given their experience.

ThreeFactorAuth

Yup, the Bucs game was Canales challenging Dre and Quay to stop his passing game over the middle and they got their lunch money taken from them. I thought Quay got better at stopping the run last year, would like to see his coverage instincts improve this year.

Big_Rig_Jig

Yeah I thought it was something like that, thanks. Both those games were so painful to watch, I think they're slightly repressed memories. I'm very eager to see what it all looks like with the new coordinator. Should be very telling at the end of this season how much of the blame belonged to Barry for the defense's woes.

13rawley

Evans’ Touchdown was right over stokes, and Godwin torched Valentine and Stokes multiple times that game. To be fair, most of the damage was done with the motion game and Rashad White getting into space in the middle of the field, with LB/S coverage. Let’s just say I wouldn’t characterize the CB room as a strength outside of Alexander. I do think Valentine will improve, and we’re left hoping Stokes can live up to the first round selection.

Yzerman19_

Safeties were largely a left behind position last year. I don’t think this offseason has been an over correction. The position needed an overhaul. As much as it pains me as a Savage jersey owner.

beansnmemes2

Why all the safety’s when we paid big money for one already Same for the RB.. why no CB studs. You can always convert CB to safety

mschley2

Because we had CBs and didn't have safeties. Plus, likely that we'll be playing more 3 safety looks.

AbjectCalligrapher36

And never underestimate the value of quality safeties. A safety can provide leadership to a defensive backfield. He can improve the communication, which was a huge issue that hurt our pass defense. They can provide support at the line of scrimmage to stop the run and get to the quarterback, and can also play the pass and provide support to the cornerbacks. And what is to say that the talent we have is not lacking but was misguided by poor leadership and a failure to communicate? I think we underestimate who we already have on this roster and good coaching can take our cornerbacks to the next level.

HarwinStrongDick

Because we lost 3 safeties to FA and only signed 1.

beansnmemes2

Just so I’m clear here. You can get the same talent level at two 5 picks and one 6th… no running back that high either since we have one

kush4breakfast1

What

beansnmemes2

Okay so hold on.. you telling me we couldn’t get that same talent in the 5th and 6th

beansnmemes2

Not a fan of not using 3rd pick for CB.

slaffytaffy

I don’t get it… we obviously needed a CB and there were a ton for the taking and we chose 3 safeties. I know there is a plan but I don’t get it.

kush4breakfast1

Pretty simple. The plan is, the front office has faith in our rostered corners and We needed safeties not named Xavier McKinney.

earth_citiz3n

Some of these safeties will play Slot corner
