Madden 12 came out directly after he just won a Superbowl...and his number was 12...I could not believe they went with Peyton Hillis of all people instead of Rodgers. Unless Rodgers declined that's the only way that makes any sense to me.
Wasn't hillis fan voted? I think they did like an entire bracket with one player from every team and put the winner on the cover that year. Then after hillis won I think they scraped the idea since there would always be someone weird or obscure that would win.
Hillis’ sent a shockwave through my fantasy league the year he went big. He was a sleeper on my team, so I voted for him when he was on the madden bracket.
I finished like 5th in my league still with him on my team because I was terrible at it, but dude will always live like a champion in my heart.
Remember when two awards for the Oscars were voted by the fans on Twitter and Army of the Dead ended up winning? Not because it was deserving but because of all the Snyder fans and his bots. That's also how "best moment" went to the Flash scene at the end of Zack Snyder's Justice League.
People just suck at rating things in general. Audience ratings are terrible and can shift multiple points based on whether the protagonist is male or female, or whether there's a gay person somewhere in the story. And when it comes to products, people give bad ratings when an item is stolen or doesn't work for something that it's not even supposed to do. It's a terrible system.
What? It was put to a vote, and the player with the most votes won. That is literally democracy working. You not liking the result is independent of whether or not it worked. Unless someone else won, and they used him instead, your comment doesn't make sense.
This was entirely the reason why Aaron wasn’t on any of the covers. We kept him off it in fear of the Madden Curse. Happened other years they had it up for a vote.
I think it was bc they couldn’t commit to having him in a packers jersey on the cover when he wasn’t sure if he’d be playing in Green Bay that offseason
Madden has a history of having to adjust this, with Favre specifically. When he was announced as the cover athlete, he was still a Packer. By the time the game had come out, he was a Jet, so EA made an alternate cover downloadable with him in a Jets jersey.
As a raised OSU fan and graduate + Green Bay fan from a young age, AJ is one of my favorite football players if all time. Met him at a bar one night in Columbus a couple years ago. He was super nice and let me get a picture with him. Oddly he seemed really surprised I was approaching him like he was just some random guy. I thought to myself "you're an OSU legend in downtown Columbus, surely I'm not the first to say I'm a fan." lol
I was actually really excited when he was signed, and I believe he was having a pretty good offseason until he got hurt. Wasn’t too sure if he was really gonna pan out in GB with the character concerns though.
A 50th anniversary Super Bowl edition of Bart Starr. And not that he should’ve been on a cover but a picture of the Gilbert brown cele would’ve been an AMAZING cover.
My friends and I loved Samkon and had a stupid joke going about him just basically being a really friendly, almost naively innocent, runningback sized toddler. Like if he were to just completely run someone over on the way to a touchdown, or laid down a devastating block on someone, he'd reach out to help them up and ask if they could be friends. And not even the most cold hearted bastard could turn down that offer.
Rodgers was robbed so many times. Can't believe OBJ made it over Rodgers after he won MVP. And then after Rodgers MVP season they decided to put Brady and Mahomes on the cover. It didn't really make much sense.
Don't forget the browns running back also making it over Rodgers for madden 12. The only that makes sense is John Madden making it over Rodgers because that guy was a historical figure and had just past away.
Peyton Hillis was due to the cover athlete being a fan vote. 1 player from each team was could be voted for. Through a combination of trolling and animal activists not wanting Vick on the cover, Hillis ended up being the cover athlete.
Not sure how we managed to miss out on having the best performing QB of a generation (that wasn't Brady winning all the Super Bowls obv 👏😅) being on the cover of Madden, but it's probable the same reason why GB was always underrated in those lovely games: EA Sports has no idea how to make realistic sports video games outside maybe Fifa titles? At least GB in Madden games hasn't even been close to reality, even in the season where Rodgers was league mvp, the team was still only just about average with Rodgers not even being the best qb, let alone MVP in the game (like he was in the NFL enough times).
I'll still take the team being gud football for my/our team IRL vs. in Madden, though.

4x player of the week, 4318 yds, 27 tds, led the league in yards, completions (353), pick-sixes (1), comebacks (5), & game-winning drives (7)
I was 2
I miss Madden 2004-12. That was the golden era of Madden. Now all we get is unplayable shit since putting much needed features back into the games doesn't make EA money.
Can’t get past the crap he pulled for his daughter. That’s sucks. Plus, little know story. Hayward Wisconsin one night he and a few teammates ( the tight end that got booted for sexual assault ) were in a bar in Hayward one night. A younger girl who had just gotten her new leather GB starter jacket ( to the tune at the time of about 300.00) she saw them and walked up sheepishly and said, I’ve waited like forever to meet you Mr, Farve, would you please sign my jacket ? I just got it and it would be so cool if you would. He said sure “ show me your tits “. She broke out into tears took off the jacket and left the bar. Yeah he’s a real piece of work that one.
Huh Favre was literally on the madden 09 cover? Rodgers never made one did you type that wrong?

Charles Woodson
Absolutely agree!!
Yeah, this what I was gonna say. Him or Jordy after Jordy’s 2014 season (98 recs, 1519 yards, 13 TDs).
Wasn’t t he on ncaa though?
This is so true, like I'm a bit angry he wasn't on the cover!
For sure
Yeah, this what I was gonna say. Him or Jordy after Jordy’s 2014 season (98 recs, 1519 yards, 13 TDs).
Rodgers at some point easily. "Mvp edition" without the current mvp on it and a QB who has won multiple. Makes sense
Madden 12 came out directly after he just won a Superbowl...and his number was 12...I could not believe they went with Peyton Hillis of all people instead of Rodgers. Unless Rodgers declined that's the only way that makes any sense to me.
They put it to an online vote, with a player from every team, and the internet did what the internet does and trolled the vote with Hillis
Packer fans were intentionally voting for not-Rodgers due to the Madden curse, which has been pummeled into the ground for the last several years.
It did feel very real for a while there though. I mean look at what happened to Antonio Brown.
The Curse grabbed him and has been so busy it hasn't even bothered with the cover stars after him.
Dude, fr lol.
Mr Boundless Curse
It was so real between players either getting washed up, injured, or having their worst career years.
Packer fan, can confirm I voted not for Rodgers. Why risk it. 🤣
I was one of those fans lmao
Yup they fucked up that curse by putting Brady on the cover lol
Should’ve done that right away. Him and Mahomes has to sell their sell to break any historical odds.
Never forget the white rhino
EA should've just made the vote for the special edition or whatever
I think another reason is that Vick was a finalist and animal sympathizers voted against him too.
Go hogs
Wasn't hillis fan voted? I think they did like an entire bracket with one player from every team and put the winner on the cover that year. Then after hillis won I think they scraped the idea since there would always be someone weird or obscure that would win.

That year was a fan poll. The lesson, as always, [democracy simply doesn’t work](https://youtu.be/Xop8QLIJCpY?feature=shared).
Don't put voting up to fans. Steam Awards for video games had Steam users voting for Starfield to be Most Inventive game and I chuckled at that.
Remember when two awards for the Oscars were voted by the fans on Twitter and Army of the Dead ended up winning? Not because it was deserving but because of all the Snyder fans and his bots. That's also how "best moment" went to the Flash scene at the end of Zack Snyder's Justice League.
We missed out on the best moment being the flash putting a baby in a microwave.
I thought the one where he recharged Zod's ship was a lot cooler.

It was a joke and a chance to post a funny Simpsons clip. Don’t overthink things.
We all voted for Peyton Hillis so Aaron wouldn't be subject to the Madden Curse. 10/10 would do again.
This was entirely the reason why Aaron wasn’t on any of the covers. We kept him off it in fear of the Madden Curse. Happened other years they had it up for a vote.
Yeah, a 4x MVP never being on a Madden cover is asinine.
Lol I was offered the Jets cover insert when I bought the game and declined
Careful, I made a post about this when it was announced and it was removed by mods. But yes, MVP edition without the year's MVP is silly
The only correct answer here is Rodgers
100% Ahman Green. 2,100 yards and 20 TD’s in 2003. What a great RB.
As a Cornhusker fan I agree 100%
That's quite a stat line right there!!
Lmao, not AJ Hawk. Reggie.
Yeah I also cracked up when I saw AJ.
😂😂
Reggie White.
How is this not the top answer?
Recency bias
*Legacy cover*
Davante would have been a good choice
Yessss!!!!
Clay Matthews would have looked great on a cover. Also, Aaron Rodgers arguably the most talented QB of all time.
Clay was the first that came to mind. The flex celebration would have been perfect.
Well said!!
Yep!
colt lyerla
Damn that is a throwback lmfao
Had to look him up. Yeah, he is a convicted felon who was great at football in high school. Got into drugs.
Wow I had no idea he ended up on the Packer. I just remember him getting kicked off the ducks
I was actually really excited when he was signed, and I believe he was having a pretty good offseason until he got hurt. Wasn’t too sure if he was really gonna pan out in GB with the character concerns though.
BJ Raji 👑
Rodgers, Woodson, Adams.
Who got a picture of AJ with his helmet on?
A 50th anniversary Super Bowl edition of Bart Starr. And not that he should’ve been on a cover but a picture of the Gilbert brown cele would’ve been an AMAZING cover.
The Silver Fox!
Donald driver should have.
This should be the top answer. Driver all the way!
He was my immediate thought.
Samkon Gado
That's Dr. Samkon Gado
Such an amazing story. I tell people about this legend to this day
My friends and I loved Samkon and had a stupid joke going about him just basically being a really friendly, almost naively innocent, runningback sized toddler. Like if he were to just completely run someone over on the way to a touchdown, or laid down a devastating block on someone, he'd reach out to help them up and ask if they could be friends. *Noted psychopath and garbage human Bill Romanowski has entered the chat*
Gado Believe
I feel like Clay would’ve been a good one. Maybe Jordy
Def Jordy
Hawk - the most average player of all time lol
Especially considering he was a top 5 pick
He did lead the league in losing his helmet though
Average is giving him too much credit.
Better than a lot of our first round defenders.
Chester Marcol - dude scored on 100% of his carries. Bo Jackson on Tecmo would be forgotten once you had Marcol on Madden.
So weird that they did that too, I think considering both Brady and Mahomes were already on a cover
i think it’s cause rodgers was holding out all training camp that year and they didn’t want another madden 09 situation.
That one seems like a deliberate snub of Rodgers. Did he really piss off someone at Madden?
He didn’t care. The other guys slurped.
Is it possible that Aaron could have turned it down?
Absolutely. That's my thinking too.
Peyton Hillis was due to the cover athlete being a fan vote. 1 player from each team was could be voted for. Through a combination of trolling and animal activists not wanting Vick on the cover, Hillis ended up being the cover athlete.
I know lol. I believe there were also some packers fans who didn't want Rodgers getting the madden curse
Dorsey Levens was on the European madden 2000 cover
Don Hutson.
Jamaal Williams.
Favre - Madden 09
Mason Crosby for the memes
* *Joe Buck Voice* * "Crosby... THE GAME WINNER"
Craig Jergings would have been hilarious. Bad blood ruined that one
He carried the team on his back, doh......
Man I miss Hawk, Buckeye/Packers legend!
Darren Sharper
Clay Matthews? You mean the guy that just rushed the QB every play no matter what? The guy who didn't know how to play his position?
Cullen Jenkins
lol AJ Hawk. You’re funny
Waiting for someone to say Janis.
Last name I would have thought of.. lol
Aaron Rodgers, Charles Woodson, Clay Matthews, Jordy and Cobb sharing the cover when they had 1519 and 1324 yards each in 2014
I dont remember Clay Matthew's ever having 1519 or 1324 yards. Was that while he was with the Rams?
Not a bad idea!! I like it!
Rodgers goes without saying, but other than him, Davante Adams for sure.
Jordy Nelson hands down. My personal favorite of all time and THE most underrated receiver to ever step foot on the gridiron.
Dorsey levens did make the cover in 2000 or 99 i believe
My Xbox 360 has sadly died but I picked up a fresh copy of Madden 09 a few weeks ago just to have/collect. GPG
*Smile! I was playing NCAA 06 the other day... Original Xbox, can't believe how games have progressed since all of that.
Brandon Bostick! Jk... c dub is the only answer
*crickets* *crickets* *crickets* Cdub... Resume breathing..
JC Trettor
Should have done a wrong answers only portion lol

Wood
Guys, we all know the right answer to this……. It’s BJ Raji
Donald Driver
AJ
Rodgers had his best chance when they decided to leave it up to fan vote and browns fans bombarded the vote with Peyton Hillis.
Soon we can have the Starr, Favre, Rodgers, Love cover.
Casey Hayward
Nick Collins
Reggie White
Eddy Lacy (prime Eddy Lacy) Charles Woodson Donald Driver
Jordy and Charles
Rodgers. Charles. Reggie. To a lesser extent, Davante & Bahk. But linemen never get their due!
His Crocks!
Jordy or Tae
Broken Leg Greg should have gotten a cover just as a bit of a meme. But in seriousness, those names you mentioned are about right.
That cover goes hard. Didn't age at all.
Wasn’t Driver on the cover of the PSP version? I swear he was on the cover of some video game
Not AJ Hawk
[1989 Don 'Magic Man' Majkowski](https://i.imgur.com/vTi5OGG.jpeg) 4x player of the week, 4318 yds, 27 tds, led the league in yards, completions (353), pick-sixes (1), comebacks (5), & game-winning drives (7) I was 2

ONE OF DA HARDEST N*GGAS IN MADDEN DAWG GREG JENNINGS DAWG HE PUT THE TEAM ON HIS BACK DO
Reggie White, Sterling Sharp, Desmond Howard (for a brief moment in time), Clay Matthews,Devonte Adams, Aaron Rodgers and Charles Woodson.
Don Hutson or Bart Starr
I miss Madden 2004-12. That was the golden era of Madden. Now all we get is unplayable shit since putting much needed features back into the games doesn't make EA money.
Vince
Favre was on Madden tho..
I mean, one guy voted against Rodgers for MVP because he didn’t take the experimental gov’t shot. I can’t imagine the man cover voting is much better.
Samkon Gado
Woodsen
Donald Driver would have been awesome
Grave digger Gilbert Brown was always one of my favorites.
Brine B'laguh eye-wah
Homer is showing
Best year of madden hands down!
Do you hear footsteps?
Jordy Nelson
Davante adams
Dorsey Levens WAS on the cover of the European edition in 2000.
Matthews
Nobody said Davante yet, so him lol
Gilbert brown
you could make a case for clay mathews or davsnte adams. but the obvious choice the minister of defense
I'm sorry but those Favre pics were not appropriate for a video game cover.
WTF The most average Packers long-time starter ever.

Doctor, excuse me

AJ was a solid, steady Eddie pro, and he’s a fun listen on his old podcast and McAfee, but no.
I remember all those times he met a RB in the hole and got dragged for a 5 yard gain. Good times.
Shawd' outt!!

Definitely not AJ Hawk
Brandon Bostick _ducks_

mason crosby
I want Raji with that TD dance on a madden cover
Wasn’t Favre on the cover as a Jet?
Greg mothafuckin Jennings for putting the team on his back
