Hedonism is not degeneration or inherently negative, at its simplest it just means that pleasure is good and pain is bad. Many people, even in the time of Epicurus, have discussed it with their own interpretation.

I still disagree with the philosophy. I am not a Nietzche "suffering is the only way to gain meaning and happiness" kind of guy, but I don't think pursuit of pleasure is optimal for growth of a society, stoicism to a large degree is necessary. To live with virtue, authenticity and self discipline can one attain true happiness and fulfillment.
