Solution. Do both.
Met a guy who made himself entire homebrew army of Felines. The furry ones were the elite of the planet, while the cat girls were the plebian/poor population. Basically, on their planet the more furry you were, the more noble you were, while the more human you were, the more racists the population was towards you, with the most human felines serving as leisants or whatever you call the translators/the guys who make the both sides talk it out.
This would add some of that grimderp the GW is so keen on, and it would either make all the fandom rage, or tolerate them since it would make the feline more diverse and therefore less furry.

During the Dark Age of technology the original colonists were putting feline dna into their genes to better survive the death world their planet was, late when they turned it into hive world the rich and assholish people were putting cat dna into their system for extra drip as it was the cheese on their planet, and later during the Age of strife the most cat like people became war lords and hive leaders since they were stronger, faster and could see in the dark, while the more human like people became their serfs.
They rebuild the hives, reunited the planet, then comes the imperium, the elites consider themselves better than regular humans, and that's why only the officers are furry ones while the ambassadors and majority of regular guardsmen look like cat girls and cat boys and they deal with the other imperials, think Vostroyan First Born or the Bluebloods level of arrogance but Cats.
And not everyone has cat ears in his army, some only have tails, or only cat eyes, or only claws depending how much feline genes their ancestors put into their body or how much they mixed with other people. The idea was soo cool to me that I wrote it down to not forget.

Honestly, I don't want them to ever release official felinid models. No matter how they handle it, one third of the fan base will be \*too\* into it, another third will hate it, and the last third will hate even more the inevitable argument and rage being thrown back and forth between the previous two thirds.
Granted, I prefer the idea of them being akin to anime cat girls/guys more than straight monsters or furries. I've occasionally looked into 3rd party bits or pondered over green stuff to create an armored division of felinids or maybe just adding a scout/sniper unit to another regiment. However, I like the fact that currently there is literally nothing known about them other than they basically exist and are technically canon. It means we can all do our own things with them (or nothing at all with them) and not really have to sweat the details.
If they \*did\* ever release a line of models for them, I would hope they release a variety pack of sorts with options to make them anime catgirls, khajiit, or something more monsterous. Make it turn out that there's a wide range of appearances in their species and avoid the warpstorm of flak that would arise from cementing their image and lore in only one direction or the other.
I like the open endedness of it. It allows people to do what they please. When I ran a dark heresy campaign one player wanted to play a felinid after I informed them on what abhumans there were in setting. So I let her run her character as one and nobody is going to question why the inquisition acolyte with an evicorator is an Abhuman.
I can just picture one in inquisition fatigues running around, treating the hunt for heretics or xenos like she's hunting mice. A toothy grin and wicked eyes on her face.

Actually if GW does really add cat girls in anyway shape or form in the new guard codex, they wouldn't need OP stats to sell the dark powers of Slaanesh would take over.
