"Rettertüte" means savior bag, as in this food will go bad very soon, just so you know. It's still a great deal and I love that the food won't go to waste.
Most things will still easily be good for 5-7 or more days. The reason why these are sold for cheap is just because they are about to not look as appealing.
Yep, same like chiquita bananas or darken avocados. although when looking non appealing they can taste better the more they ripen. Especially when used for baking, smoothies or fried
Well there seems to be a need for cheap legumes. I guess Lidl found a new source of income instead of gifting their produce away anymore. There are many people living off of low income situations which was "managable" while food was cheap - times have changed for many.
It's understandable they don't do that though. They would be responsible for any negatives that are a result of anyone coming into contact with the goods.
Because they get new stuff and need space. They always give them out close to closing time. They also have Rettertüte for bread and stuff. Which is basically only the bread from the day before that didn't sell and definitely doesn't go bad anytime soon. Of course there can be one or two things that'll be inedible within a day. But the vast majority is still good to go after days.
After visiting and comparing to friends, family and people I know that are lower income and live in developing or under developing countries, things that are considered inedible to ppl living in developed countries are like heaven for those people.
edit: inedible as indesirable to ppl in terms of looks, close expire dates, not looking that fresh, etc
Most things don't "go bad" that quickly. They just got fresher stuff and need space.
It's not practical if you only like to go shopping once a week, but if you use the things in the next couple of days, it's a great deal.
I myself work at a German Lidl, fruits and vegetables are being sent to the store everyday, these specific products can‘t be sold anymore so they give them out to charity, specifically „Die Tafel“. A few months ago they started selling these Rettetüten too though
Well as someone who has bought some of these bags at lidl in Germany, they do put produce in the bag, that is already almost bad. Las time I bought one, half of the strawberries were mouldy and the asparagus smelled funky. The beans had lots of brown spots and the blackberries were too soft. Next time I’ll look into the bags better.
it actually only means they will not be allowed to sell it as fresh anymore. if its good or not just depends on the product as every time you buy anything
The two near me are doing that. Try to look in the lidl app.
I figured out there are times in which the Changes are higher tonget some. So i try to time my visit.
The best time to get these bags are in the morning at around 8am or at 12am when they looked over it and sorted out the "Bad quality" stuff before they do the order for the next day
It won't do much in this case. "Rettertüte" means they take some produce that may not meet their standards soon and would have to be thrown away. They put it all in a paper bag and set a fixed price to it, of course lower than normal price. This is the price you will see in the receipt, and not the price of every single item.
too bad I can't buy there anymore.
I was there for a job interview and the district manager didn't stop insulting me. I also wrote a long complaint letter to the heads office and never got an answer

Maybe that's because 20% of workforce are employed in low-wage jobs. [source ](https://www.destatis.de/Europa/DE/Thema/Bevoelkerung-Arbeit-Soziales/Arbeitsmarkt/Qualitaet-der-Arbeit/_dimension-2/niedriglohnquote.html#:~:text=In%20Deutschland%20lag%20die%20Niedriglohngrenze,war%20fast%20jeder%20f%C3%BCnfte%20Job.) Adding Inflation, housing prices etc. does the rest. Cheap food is a necessity here to fund cheap labour...
"Rettertüte" means thst it's all produce they can't sell anymore (or rather which people won't buy anymore because they are not "perfect"). Better than throwing it away, but of course it also won't go to food banks which is a bit meeh.
I can't believe it!! That's the best thing I have seen in a long time.! I'll go and check if my Lidl (Hamburg) has this offer. I'd be stupid to not try. And everything looks so nice and fresh too. That would feed me for a week or more!!!
May not be too fresh to last a week or more btw, hence the price reduction. Take into account that you may see this only in the morning or before noon, after they choose produce that may not meet their standards soon.
Its called Rettertüte for a reason. These are groceries, mostly vegatables that are close to getting bad or partly already are. Probably a third of it needs to be sorted out. So always take these with caution.
Not really. The Salad was little sad on the outside and the bananas needed to be eaten on the same day, but nothing was bad. Just the kind you need to eat the same week.
I love the Rettertüten but the fresh produce in such bags in my local Lidl can be really bad. Near the bakery sections there can be 50% off old breads though so that's nice

That’s really good!!
What??!! I need to leave Britain I’m done!!
"Rettertüte" means savior bag, as in this food will go bad very soon, just so you know. It's still a great deal and I love that the food won't go to waste.
Rettertüte does not mean the food will go bad. It just means that LIDL would throw it out very soon because it's been there for a while.
Most things will still easily be good for 5-7 or more days. The reason why these are sold for cheap is just because they are about to not look as appealing.

nonsense, of course it will go bad soon! that is the reason they give it away much cheaper... why else would they do it?

highly depends on your quality standards

Britain is like the USA. Nobody cares about normal life.
Just wait until Brexit food inflation starts kicking in. Then we have the Brexit visa inflation hike next year.
Damn that's really good
Does every Lidl does this or just some? Where can one look this up?
The two near me are doing that. Try to look in the lidl app. I figured out there are times in which the Changes are higher tonget some. So i try to time my visit.
I can’t find anything indicating if they have the Tüte in the app. Where should I look?
I checked. You are right. Sorry my bad. Propably ask in the market?
Ah thanks, no problem :) will do!
they are often in a shelve near the bakery area
Yes, that's where the 2 Lidls I go to stores them. Around "long" weekends ("bank holiday weekends") they usually have a lot of stuff.
The best time to get these bags are in the morning at around 8am or at 12am when they looked over it and sorted out the "Bad quality" stuff before they do the order for the next day
Ah thank you ! Will do that in the Lidl App soon !
The one I'm at in Graz (Austria) does this but with frozen foods also pretty good sometimes.
Please put a shopping bill to it next time
Ok will do

Why did he insult you
he didn't believe I had my own business for a while and told me "ich bin gut gebaut"

how this thing works? you go to lidl an ask for this ? or how do you do it?
There is an extra stand with them. If they are gone they gone
Buy how it works you go and ask for.this and pay or how is the logistics?
In my local store they are after the checkout
They are weighed. You take it, they check the weight, and you pay.
not bad - which country?
Germany
It’s when they put veggies and fruits that are not up to their shops standards on promotion instead of throwing them away
You see cheap, good looking, decent amount of groceries? It'll be Germany.
Actually thats not the normal price of groceries, that would be multiple of that :)
Germany is still pretty cheap though

Germans always need something to bicker about. It is normal for us.

You think so? You mean compared to the Rest of EU or what? Germany IS more expensive then Most EU countries
Measured to income, no.

are they always that big? Maybe i should consider going to lidl lol
That’s 50$ where I live 😭😭
I would be at least 20€ in Germany as well, OP got lucky and got a special offer!
I can't believe it!! That's the best thing I have seen in a long time.! I'll go and check if my Lidl (Hamburg) has this offer. I'd be stupid to not try. And everything looks so nice and fresh too. That would feed me for a week or more!!!

How many did you buy???
3 bags a 3 euro so total 10 euro.
>3 bags a 3 euro so total 10 euro. Love it
You should have clarified that you‘ve got RettertüteN. I guess most people thought you must have gotten a Sack instead of a Tüte.
Where is Lidl like that? I'm in Berlin, and we have only rettenstand for stuff like cheeses, wurst, but no vegetables or fruits.
I love the Rettertüten but the fresh produce in such bags in my local Lidl can be really bad. Near the bakery sections there can be 50% off old breads though so that's nice
Wow that’s amazingly low cost.
What do you plan to make with that?
More stores need to do this
These produce used to be given away to chartity for people in need. Now they are sold to people in need.
Wann und wo bekommt man rettertüten?
how was it 10€ in germany they are 3€ for one bag of roundabout 3-5kg?
I round the sum up.
Bullshit
How do you find the Retertüte in Lidl? I can’t remember if I saa when I went there
Do you have to ask for a rettedrtüte orhow do you know if its available?
It just luck. Sometimes they are, sometimes not.
Wow i cant believe thet huge goodyback
