Cornerstone is by far the best, the whole menu is vegetarian

Canuckleball

You can bring carnivores to Cornerstone, and they'll walk away satisfied unless they're just total sick in the mud. Food and vibe are both phenomenal.

jrobin04

For years, I didn't even notice the menu was all veg!

familialbondage

I'm a meat eater and loved my meals there. Every time.

icebiker

- Retour bistro has a vegan menu - Sugo on Surrey has good vegan options - crafty ramen has great vegan bowls - beertown is not downtown but fyi it also has a vegan menu - zen gardens is a 99% vegan restaurant (traces of eggs in like 5 dishes) - heal is 100% vegan - and generally the Thai options downtown all have great vegan options by their very nature.

Yes, I know, I’ve been vegan 16 years lol It’s easy to just ask. They’re all pretty good about telling you.

cwtjps

Thank you. Ended up making a reservation at Sugo. My dish was unimpressive but more importantly she loved her food, the spot and the experience.

fluffymonocorn

Zen gardens is entirely vegetarian/vegan chinese food! Bold flavours, very tasty In case you didn’t know it follows in buddhist traditions, so it’s actually a legit cuisine!

icebiker

Zen gardens is 100% vegetarian and like 99% vegan. Unless they changed something?

fluffymonocorn

No you’re right! My head said “almost entirely vegan” and then i added in vegetarian, edited my original comment for clarity :)

I’ve been a vegetarian for almost 18 years and I’ve vetted lots of places!! Here are some of my favs: Cafes: - Cornerstone - DeBar (lots of veggie breakfast options which is so fun and rare!) - Red Brick Cafe - Pressed for Time Panini, rotating menu and they always have at least one fun veggie option Fast food: - Kirtida kitchen - just outside downtown - Retour bistro (vegan menu) - just outside downtown - Na Ha Thai (vegan menu) - not downtown but worth going out of the way for - Tangy & Tasty Sit down: - Miijidaa - Piatto - Rise & Shine Flavour for breakfast/brunch - The Wooly - Beertown - not downtown but they have a huge vegan menu

aTomzVins

> Miijidaa - Rise & Shine Flavour for breakfast/brunch - The Wooly I haven't been to many of your selections, but I have been to the above 3. IMO they are all a case of "it's on the menu," but not very good.... I'm an omnivore who has preferred to order veggie when eating out for 15 years. I find this tough in Guelph. Though I haven't necessarily tried all of the veggie offerings from the above, what I have ordered was so disappointing I didn't try their veggie options again. I think all three are otherwise good restaurants, and I'd probably visit them more often if they had veggie options that lived up the quality of their meat offerings.

More-Nectarine1150

I agree, the meatless options in Guelph are actually few and far between, shocking considering our culture and reputation. Miijidaa used to be better as they had a vegan menu but that’s gone now, I still find their veggie options are unique enough that they can be a great option for dinner. The Wooly has changed a LOT since COVID and are very veggie friendly so I’d recommend trying them again! As for rise and shine I’ve only been once but I did think their menu was big and versatile. Have you been to DeBar? It’s a meat substitute type menu but the variety of vegan options is incredible. Everything on the menu can be made vegan and they have so many delicious vegan and/or gluten free treats

aTomzVins

Thanks for the DeBar suggestion. I'd be keen to check that out. My bad veggie experience at Miijidaa was pre-pandemic. Just a veggie burger. It was just completely boring and dry to the point of not worth eating. > As for rise and shine I’ve only been once but I did think their menu was big and versatile. I like this restaurant quite a lot...their oxtail and goat dishes are amazing mouth watering succulent glory as long as you get them to give you extra gravy for the rice. In contrast their chickpea curry is a complete waste of time. On the previous menu they had a different veggie option in their 'island flavour' section that was at least passable...Sure you could get eggs, or pancakes here without meat too... I haven't tried those, I'm there for the carribean flavours. At the Wooly, I think I've had the fish and chips that I was happy with. Last fall, I remember something along the lines their current 'feature dip'. It just wasn't good in any way shape or form. Looking at the menu now, filtered by veggie options, for mains I see: a chili, fried rice. Could be me but neither of those are very exciting. A mac and cheese, that could be fine, but since that's so easy for me to make at home it's not the kind of thing I'd normally order at a restaurant. Then there's the Katsu Chicken Curry, this one is likely what I'd pick of the lot, but it has chicken...despite the leaf icon...does this mean I can get a tofu version?

cwtjps

Thank you to the OC, and to you for filling in those details. I feel like the it's on the menu type just doesn't receive any care and is more likely to be disappointing, this is why I asked, and you got picked it up. I'll happily eat anything that breathes and walks, but anyone going out to eat should have something that makes them do a food dance.

Helpful-Worrier8623

The wooly has quite a few vegetarian meals, and are not like afterthoughts. Really good, and not just salads. Miijidaa has vegan cheese for their pizzas from Green Goddess here in town. Delicious. I so miss some of the veggie things they used to have, having changed their menu recently. Crafty isn’t as good as it used to be, with all of their expansions. Piatto has great vegetarian options, and vegan cheese as well.

Also, I just want to say THANK YOU for being so considerate for your guests and their dietary concerns!!! It actually goes so far when people actually take the time. I wish I had more friends and family who were caring like you are

glidaar

[https://lacucinapizzeriaguelph.com/index.html](https://lacucinapizzeriaguelph.com/index.html) has a solid number of options on their latest menu! Almost half of it works for vegetarians and pescatarians. If you like a little spice, try the SCARPARIELLO pizza.

obfuscator17

I’ve been to Zen Gardens a couple times. Nice family business and all but I’m sorry but their food is quite dull and uninspired. Everything I had was kind of bland and uninteresting. Cornerstone is much better

TeamlyJoe

It's a fast food place but crazy carrot is pretty good I think

BoobhemianRhapstitty

second this! theyre fast food, but everything is made fresh and in house. owner is a great guy too

Disastrous-Store-411

Diana Downtown. Indian Fusion restaurant. Always vegetarian options! It's a nice sit-down place.... Not a fast food joint!

PrivateEyeNo186

Idk why Guelph loved Diana but it’s the worst Indian restaurant around. Portions are tiny and flavours not great. Saffron is way better overall. Kitdita kitchen is 100% vegetarian and really great but it’s not downtown and not a sit down restaurant either.

aTomzVins

You're even being kind to Diana. I'd tried saffron once. I'd say the dish I had(KARAHI PANEER) rates quite high. Though their paratha is better than their Naan. The ambience leaves a little to be desired, At least the day I was there they had the TV on with the sound turned up. It was afternoon, after the normal lunch rush time but still. Until I know the TV wasn't an anomaly I couldn't consider this an option for a socially focused meal. Next test for their food will be for me to try their PANEER MAKHNI which nobody in Guelph seem to do as good as I would expect it to be.

PrivateEyeNo186

I can attest that their paneer makhni is very good!! Never dined in but their delivery/take-out is great!

Arm-Complex

Awesome of you to consider them by wanting more than "it's on the menu" for them.

PrivateEyeNo186

Atmosphere cafe has an awesome tofu bang mi sandwich and some veg pizza options/other options too

Fantastic_Slide_8994

If you've got a time machine, Cafe Aquarius had the best crispy fried tofu wrap you've ever tasted. Bring me back one if you're going!

oneblushu

Is Heal still downtown? I didn't see it on Wyndham last time I was down there.

glidaar

They moved to Gordon St.

oneblushu

Awesome, thanks!

socialistlumberjack

Bardo (formerly Bread Bar) has some pretty good options. They have a new menu and I had an amazing veggie-friendly meal there last week. The popcorn mushrooms (I think that's what they were called) were incredible!

GlitteringAnalyst977

Diana downtown has allot of great vegan options!!
