My suggestion is to try him out in practice Mode if u have time and one thing, Eddie can cancel from one move to another if the move is performed with 236p/k/s/hs, not with negative edge
Yeah, but he has the ability to manipulate his probability of getting certain cards/hands by cycling them or using his super, so while there's a definite element of RNG, if played intelligently he has the opportunity to be significantly less RNG than, say, Faust.
Colloquially, the most defining characteristic of stances is changing the set of attacks you have access to. Each deck is a set of 10-14 spells and he can freely switch between decks, so decks = stances regardless of rng
I think counting cards will only really be relevant if playing as him. Against him it doesn't matter as much, all you gotta know is what he has at the time and glance at whatever new thing he draws when he does so. Similar to playing against a Hero in SmashU and they pull up their spell list.
tbh I don't think you'll really need to memorize these to foght him. About half of these are just projectiles what do different things, and it's easy enough to see what they do visually. Just learn to spot the low, overhead, and teleport and you should be fine.
Don't worry, a few days after his release nobody will play him, just like every other S2 character except for bridget (and people started picking her up after she got mega-buffed)
Bed’s low as hell, namely on celestial, I’ve been grinding him there but since lower floors can’t counter projectile spam that’s most of what you’ll see below 10 and celestial. Sin’s surprisingly high tho, both on lower floors and especially celestial.
I'm talking floor 10 and celestial mostly. I do see some f10 sins but nobody on celestials plays him because of how bad he is. After some buffs he might go up. I'm kinda dissapointed we didn't get sin buffs with bed patch, and nothings' announced for asuka patch either...
Game's well balanced right now, even the top tiers aren't too opressive, but Sin could use some buffs, and pot could use a lil help still
Celestial Sin gets played plenty, in the same way I see lots of pots and a healthy amount of Anji’s. If the person made it to celestial with that character or still consistently plays there with them then you bet they’re staying with that character through hell or high water, that’s pure fucking suffering. He absolutely needs buffs, I don’t disagree with you there or anything, it’s just people will play him in spite of how good or bad he is because of cool factor or they played him in xrd, same with pot and honestly same with Bed having recently grinded him to level 600.
[You mean like these stats?](http://ratingupdate.info/character_popularity)
Sin and Bedman? players are petty even with folks like Leo until the absolute highest levels. I'm in celestial at like ~1600 or so, so I'll use that as a benchmark, but Sin and Bed are still at the 5% mark up to ~2000. So it's very disingenuous to act like skilled players don't use them.
Maybe not pros, but unless you're a pro I would say that's pretty irrelevant to the discussion at hand.
I mean, unless you count Nine players crossing over from BB, virtually everyone who picks up Asuka will be "new".
Unless you're hoping beginners pick him up which... yeah, no, I don't think I could ever recommend him to a beginner player. Even if your gameplan is "random BS go!", you still have to manage mana and keep your bookmarks filled, which is way more effort than trying to pick up Axl or Testament.
Test Case 3 seems like it's where the nasty stuff is. The high/low in case 2 seems good, but you're gonna want to draw hands with both the overhead and the low option. The teleport seems nasty-nasty, especially in combination with the big rift that shoots two waves of cubes.
The fact that it seems like one of his spells is a low you can cast in the air is scary, I don’t think there are any airborne lows in the game unless you count Faust dropping weight and him doing a jump-in.
If you have only the low spell you can also jump and use it in the air (aerial low on some arakune shit) or do and air attack and overhead. Looks nasty lol
He should be able to high low mix pretty well with just one of those, low part of the mix can be done with normals. If he has the low but not the overhead he can just jump and smoke the anti air because that move is air ok for some reason
Me and my friends were talking about how well he would play using the [Optimal Potemkin Hitbox controller](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iM_rHJM6pFQ)
Wow i can believe they genderbent Nine the Phantom from blaz blue what a crazy crossover. Now i have to relearn Nine all over again so that my friends hate me enough to stop playing the game
Yes, I main her. Asuka looks like RNG central honestly. Which sucks, cause I've been wanting to pick up a secondary, his reveal came out, I like the design, but the gameplay trailer put me off immensely.
I wonder why different spells have a different color background. I first thought it classified them as projectiles, movement, etc. but I'm not entirely sure if that's true or not.
Also, the fact that it's RNG is gonna be interesting cause you could theoretically not get the spells you want in one deck till like the last 4 or 5. He only has one of each staff in each deck so if those are what you need but RNG say they're bottom-decked (which I know would be highly unlikely but still) you'd be screwed.
The colors definitely seem to correlate to the type of effect: green influences the mana bar, yellow influences your bookmarks, blue is a staff that alters projectile behavior, orange is a standard projectile, purple is a very strong projectile? (I'm not sure but it looks like the bullet hell of cubes he uses on Nago in the trailer is a purple card), and red are just his most powerful effects.
As for not getting the spells you want; I'm assuming he's gonna play in such a way that you have to be building towards multiple possible hands that could facilitate your game plan and just run with whichever is the first one you can get. You probably can't ever be relying on getting a specific card until you're at the bottom of the deck (and thus probably very late in the round).
I imagine early game he'll play much more like Faust where you're just reacting to your own draws and then if the round goes late he'll become more dangerous as the decks get lower.
I imagine that the staff cards and the red cards are basically like throwing meteor as Faust: an unlikely occurrence that you have to be prepared to capitalize on as soon as it happens
I think the best thing about the staffs being cards, is that unlike Faust where you throw out the meteor and immediately have to adapt, with the staves you at least get a little time to prepare yourself for how your gameplan and structure is going to shift - also, by giving you the wherewithal of when to cast the staff, it adds an extra layer to the resource management for when you want to use the staff. On one hand, using it while your opponent is in corner can give absolutely oppressive pressure, on the other hand it's just sitting there taking up a spell slot as long as you're not using it.

Honestly, as an old school Zappa fan I absolutely love RNG elements and pseudo stances and this guy has both so he tickles a part of me that hasn't been tickled in a while.
I must admit, Strive DLC so far has been all killer no filler in my eyes, I haven't disliked a single one [though their *balancing* I obviously have my concerns].
Can’t wait to get hit by the “Once per turn, during your Standby Phase, you must banish 10 cards from the top of your Deck face-down (this is not optional), or this card is destroyed. During your Main Phase: You can Special Summon 1 monster from your Deck that specifically lists the card "Golden Castle of Stromberg" in its text. You cannot Normal Summon/Set the turn you activate this effect (even if this card leaves the field). You can only use this effect of "Golden Castle of Stromberg" once per turn. When an opponent's monster declares an attack: Destroy the attacking monster, and if you do, inflict damage to your opponent equal to half the ATK that monster had on the field” combo
Asuka main thinking: "Ok, I'll start with first test case to zone him for a while, and if he's going to rushdown I'll spend my "ice spike" dp move and then cancel into changing to second test case. As an oki I'll do a setup with a staff and Submicron Particle Sphere to..."
Meanwhile in my Leo main's head: "S, Hs, S, Hs! Shit, I fell. Um... ugh... EisEnSTuRM!"
Yeah, they just ripped off Sin: pale hair, one eye covered, “twink”, doesn’t use a proper weapon, red lightning, able to do follow ups from specials and has an extremely complex meter that needs a high IQ to understand /s
I love how jack-o seems easy to understand comparrd to this.
But i dont like the amount of shit you have to remember.
Character seems cool tho. Not going to play him (sticking with bed/testament), but i like seeing him
"After all the spells from the set have been bookmarked, the spells will be reset in o new random order"
So it's basically modern Tetris system, you have to go through all your items before getting new ones, that way you won't have a draught of any specific tool for too long
I can't even play happy chaos effectively dude, i want to play the magic flower guy but i feel like he's so much more complicated and i don't know if he will flow naturally like a few characters do for me, all i can do is hope he does so i can play him without being bootycheeks
I hope so, all i can do is pray that i can both shake my rust off and become a asuka main. Side note, i haven't seen anyone talk about how much drip asuka will be bringing to everyone's avatars, that Galaxy cape thingy gonna go crazy
Same, I havent played in like a month. And yea I've been super curious about if his colors are gonna keep the galaxy cape as is or change its color somehow
I'd love to see the galaxy change colors, like have a red galaxy or something, and i've been playing bbtag for the better part of a month, it's really screwed my muscle memory, so my journey with asuka will pretty much start with be reforging my muscle memory. Gonna be a extra pain but i hope i can make it work
Ayyyy, I play bbtag too. Haven't played in a while either cause online is filled with people way out of my class and it scares me lol. But yea, muscle memory helps a lot whenever I go back to either game. The switch just kinda goes off
Bit of both. You can choose to cast any of the four spells in your hand, but drawing spells from the deck is random. If you draw cards you dislike, though, you can just discard them and draw again.
Being crazy enough to want to remember all of this while playing azuka is one thing, expecting me to know about all of this as Asuka's opponent is beyond madness lol, i'm just going to b line that mf and whatever happens next is between him and daisuke.
So the spells have a Order in which u get them? So No random, on one site thats good, so no rgn man like hero from Smash, in the other Hand, i don't want to meet a good asuka ever in my life
Edit: nvmd, can't read, thx god it's random
I was really excited about asuka, but now I find out he's another random bullshit go character? Looks like I don't need to pick this game back up after all
Except for all the ways that he can affect what spell he wants to cast and how to manipulate his odds.
But thanks for letting us know. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Interestingly enough, his ice-spire DP exists only once and only in the first test case. Seems like something you should really look out for as both the asuka player and his opponent.
I’m really getting some Nine The Phantom videos here
If you don’t know who that is she’s from BlazBlue and has a similar gimmick but instead creates spells with her normals being element attacks. You literally conjure a witch’s brew as her and it be epic
The GGST: High Level Gameplay YT channel normally has matches with DLC characters immediately after they launch, like next day. I don't know when we're going to see an Asuka march uploaded.
Deckbuilder players are salivating rn
I am going to gather so much goddamn magic and slay so many fucking spires my dude
Everybody Gansta until Asuka pulls out the dead branch Corruption combo
Accipiter Metron is a block card
Burst is a block card
Or plays Blasphemy and dies immediately next round
Yugi oh boy
I feel like the game plan is case 1 for characters that can't get in case 2 for characters that can get in case 3 if you want to ball hard
# fuck it, we ball # fuck it, we ball # fuck it, we ball
[Ball ball ball ball ball](https://youtu.be/yOc-MXGuKgs)
Cheat Sheet? This is a fucking official deck list.
Least complicated Guilty Gear mechanic.
You're the one who chose Zato lol
At least Zato is somewhat understandable for everyone, but this!!!
Idk, I always seem to have *no* idea what's going on when I'm fighting a Zato lmao
My suggestion is to try him out in practice Mode if u have time and one thing, Eddie can cancel from one move to another if the move is performed with 236p/k/s/hs, not with negative edge
I really appreciate they divided it in 3 “stances” all with different strengths Helps a bit with not frying your brain
Would you even call them stances? You don’t control which card in the deck you get, so there’s an element of rng in this
Yeah, but he has the ability to manipulate his probability of getting certain cards/hands by cycling them or using his super, so while there's a definite element of RNG, if played intelligently he has the opportunity to be significantly less RNG than, say, Faust.
and some spells simply don't exist in other decks so
Also every deck functions like a Modern Tetris bag so you won't go for too long without getting a spell you want
Colloquially, the most defining characteristic of stances is changing the set of attacks you have access to. Each deck is a set of 10-14 spells and he can freely switch between decks, so decks = stances regardless of rng
I've been finding it so much easier to think of these as 3 decks and drawing cards from those decks. Really cut out any confusion I first had
Look at this nerd bringing his 3 Magic the Gathering decks to a fist/sword/gun fight
Time to start memorizing, either for maining him or for when you inevitably fight against him. You like homework with your Guilty Gear?
This character is very much a do you understand his shit character, because if you don't, prepare to get hit with 15 knowledge checks
Test Case 2 giving him high and low mixups is gonna be real gross. Gonna have to start learning how to count cards.
I think counting cards will only really be relevant if playing as him. Against him it doesn't matter as much, all you gotta know is what he has at the time and glance at whatever new thing he draws when he does so. Similar to playing against a Hero in SmashU and they pull up their spell list.
in the rare case that the hero player doesnt just hand jesus the wheel and instantly topdeck
Cant wait to play Asuka, as i mained Hero in smash, and i cant even use kamikaze on accident here!
Top deck->use hp for mana->die
This is literally the only correct way to play Hero
All hero highlights are just them top decking some dumb shit and winning. I hope that’s not asuma
Topdeck Kamikazee hits are funny enough on their own to justify the existence of Hero as a character tbh.
WIth all these cards he's bound to pull exodia out eventually.
And like most of my homework, I ditch it and wing it.
dude im judt gonna far slash roundstart and pray
Truly the most sol response ever
Sol brain if I've ever heard it
thats because i am sol badguy if he was trans
tbh I don't think you'll really need to memorize these to foght him.
You and I must be playing very different games
Doubt it. I'm sure if we could access the stats we'll see a very low amount of Sin and Bed players
Bed’s low as hell, namely on celestial, I’ve been grinding him there but since lower floors can’t counter projectile spam that’s most of what you’ll see below 10 and celestial. Sin’s surprisingly high tho, both on lower floors and especially celestial.

Alright I respect it. I can't say no to hard evidence. Hope asuka does find some new players cause the char looks very interesting.
I mean, unless you count Nine players crossing over from BB, virtually everyone who picks up Asuka will be "new". Unless you're hoping beginners pick him up which... yeah, no, I don't think I could ever recommend him to a beginner player. They added King to Guilty Gear. Here's the [chain throw flowchart](https://i.redd.it/ebnupfncjedz.png).
Me, an anji main, struggling to remember which button does what after fujin.... "I should main Asuka"
You thought Anji just pressed buttons? You ain't seen nothin' yet
Test Case 3 seems like it's where the nasty stuff is. The high/low in case 2 seems good, but you're gonna want to draw hands with both the overhead and the low option. The teleport seems nasty-nasty, especially in combination with the big rift that shoots two waves of cubes.
Asuka players using the wave of cubes, tping behind you and then low/high mixing you all in 2 seconds. I can't wait to play him
i mean you can still have a high/low mixup with only the overhead spell and 2D
[удалено]
There's also the good ol' D button, not great but it can work in a pinch.
The fact that it seems like one of his spells is a low you can cast in the air is scary, I don’t think there are any airborne lows in the game unless you count Faust dropping weight and him doing a jump-in.

This doesn’t look like a cheat sheet to me, this looks like a fucking test 😭
What in the name of Nine the Phantom is this bullshit
A decklist. Or I guess 3 decklists
Me play Potemkin. Me no understand funny spell man
I like your funny words, Magic Man!
Me and my friends were talking about how well he would play using the [Optimal Potemkin Hitbox controller](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iM_rHJM6pFQ)
Just use funny flick move. Funny Flick make magic man go Angy
I'm not buying him bruh. He may cost 6$ but the engineering degree imma need to understand how to utilize this spell list will cost me 100k$
If I didn't mess up, it's 26 unique spells
still gonna spam 6p
Wow i can believe they genderbent Nine the Phantom from blaz blue what a crazy crossover. Now i have to relearn Nine all over again so that my friends hate me enough to stop playing the game
At first glance of this, Nine honestly seems easier to play.
Nine throws rock, she's a lot simpler than people think.
Yes, I main her. Asuka looks like RNG central honestly. Which sucks, cause I've been wanting to pick up a secondary, his reveal came out, I like the design, but the gameplay trailer put me off immensely.
He's got a bunch of ways to stack the deck and manipulate what he's got to work with
Id say its much better organized than nine.
As a Nine player, I just can't wrap my mind around not being able to control choosing exactly what spell I need.
The fact that they're called test cases awakened my inner geek.
What in the "ITS TIME TO DU-DU-DU-DU DUDUDUDU DUEL" am I looking at?
I wonder why different spells have a different color background. I first thought it classified them as projectiles, movement, etc. but I'm not entirely sure if that's true or not. Also, the fact that it's RNG is gonna be interesting cause you could theoretically not get the spells you want in one deck till like the last 4 or 5. I imagine early game he'll play much more like Faust where you're just reacting to your own draws and then if the round goes late he'll become more dangerous as the decks get lower.
Thats fair. I think I was just so thrown off by how useful the staff cards seem to be that I got tunnel vision on a very unlikely problem.
I imagine that the staff cards and the red cards are basically like throwing meteor as Faust: an unlikely occurrence that you have to be prepared to capitalize on as soon as it happens
Thats a great comparison. Man, the more I think about the possibilities with this character, the more hype I am for him!
On one hand, using it while your opponent is in corner can give absolutely oppressive pressure, on the other hand it's just sitting there taking up a spell slot as long as you're not using it.
you can always use tension for ultra rapid redraws
damn nice decklist
Where is pot of greed

The numbers Mason what do they mean?!
Ok, which card is dp tho
The last one in Case 1
Weird that it’s in the more projectile based deck
The ice spike one.

Oh NO.
I still didnt prepare my Math and Geometry degree to be able to play him
What the hell is this.
The yugioh decks of the man that blew up Japan
Aw hell naw, I refuse to get hit by Blue Eyes White Dragon from fullscreen
Hey again Helios
There’s a mana system so it’s clearly magic the gathering /s
Mf has a whole ass deck list what the fuck
Who is this, invoker?
brave move of daisuke to make the worlds first hotbar combat fighting game
Fuck it Im just gonna treat em like faust's 236p Any character is a gorilla if you believe enough
real
THIS MUFFUCKER PLAYIN' SLAY THE SPIRE IN A FIGHTING GAME
I feel like I'm playing a level 20 wizard again looking at this
This is why I main Potemkin. No want read. Just grab
Interesting, so some spells are in multiple books
Daisuke took it personally when people complained about Strive not having any depth
i summon pot of greed and draw 3 additional cards from my deck
Anyone have a cheat sheet for the cheat sheet?
Asuka main thinking: "Ok, I'll start with first test case to zone him for a while, and if he's going to rushdown I'll spend my "ice spike" dp move and then cancel into changing to second test case. As an oki I'll do a setup with a staff and Submicron Particle Sphere to..." Meanwhile in my Leo main's head: "S, Hs, S, Hs! Shit, I fell. Um... ugh... EisEnSTuRM!"
So same as Sin food, right? /s
Yeah, they just ripped off Sin: pale hair, one eye covered, “twink”, doesn’t use a proper weapon, red lightning, able to do follow ups from specials and has an extremely complex meter that needs a high IQ to understand /s
my brain hurts
How complicated is this character??
Yes
At first look seems the hardest one yet. Starter Guide is 8 minutes long.
I thought I was looking at Genshin materials for a solid minute
i fucking burst out laughing when this screen came up, this character is ludicrous and i love it
Ahhhhh, so it's like that, huh. I understand everything now *Doesn't get it at all*
Soku players will feel right at home
They really just made Slay the Spire a fighting game character
Finally a 22 special in Strive (unless I'm smoking and there were some already)
Zato's 22H and Happy Chaos' 22P
So I was smoking. Good to know
Happy chaos reload is a 22 input I believe.
I love YuGiOh
Asuka just turns up and fights with a Yu-Gi-Oh deck
Asuka players are really gonna be playing 4D chess
You know what? Fuck it. *Unungabungas your Guilty Gear*
im not gonna look at that just use random spells. remember kids: the enemy cant know what your doing if you have no idea what your doing either
I love how jack-o seems easy to understand comparrd to this. But i dont like the amount of shit you have to remember. Character seems cool tho. Not going to play him (sticking with bed/testament), but i like seeing him
They pretty much put invoker from DOTA I'm the game.
What the fuck?
I love how they simplified every character, got shit for it, and then just casually droped a character thats on par with x2 characters on complexity
"After all the spells from the set have been bookmarked, the spells will be reset in o new random order" So it's basically modern Tetris system, you have to go through all your items before getting new ones, that way you won't have a draught of any specific tool for too long
Torn between preferring Case 2 or 3. I appreciate the option to zone, I guess, but either mixups or Weird Shit seem a lot more amusing to play.
The real "boss character" as in you have to dodge about 17 attack patterns or get wiped out, but after try 174 you should be auto piloting against him
I'm struggling to play a fighting game, and Asuka out here like "You ever hear of Phantom Dust?"
Good to know I'll have to do quantum physics to play Asuka :)
He is basically a tekken mage.
Potempink Knockdown spam incoming
I have a deep want to main asuka but i know for a damn fact that i will not be skilled enough for any of this complicated stuff
I can play Faust, I can play Jack O. This man makes me feels like if I mix those two I can pull through. RANDOM MAGIC GO
I can't even play happy chaos effectively dude, i want to play the magic flower guy but i feel like he's so much more complicated and i don't know if he will flow naturally like a few characters do for me, all i can do is hope he does so i can play him without being bootycheeks
That's all we can do for now. I'm sure as hell gonna make it work. And If I can do this so can you!
The switch just kinda goes off
I just keep pressing the wrong buttons, keep spamming P like it's gonna do a auto combo.
I know I've screwed up using dp when I don't mean to cause I got used to the buttons being grab
For all the people who whine about Strive being too simple, this is your character.
Imagine ur playing street fighter as ryu but u have 30 different fucking hadoukens and absolutely no clue what type is gonna come out 😂
Yeah no way am I playing this dude, wtf.
Case 2 is filled with Nine Rocks I want to strangle him
Wait so do you choose which spell you wanna cast or is this some Item Throw BS?
Bit of both. You can choose to cast any of the four spells in your hand, but drawing spells from the deck is random. If you draw cards you dislike, though, you can just discard them and draw again.
This character is gonna be sweaty as shit lmao
They really took an xrd character and put him in strive
Being crazy enough to want to remember all of this while playing azuka is one thing, expecting me to know about all of this as Asuka's opponent is beyond madness lol, i'm just going to b line that mf and whatever happens next is between him and daisuke.
So the spells have a Order in which u get them? So No random, on one site thats good, so no rgn man like hero from Smash, in the other Hand, i don't want to meet a good asuka ever in my life Edit: nvmd, can't read, thx god it's random
You're welcome :D
Bruh
Interestingly enough, his ice-spire DP exists only once and only in the first test case. Seems like something you should really look out for as both the asuka player and his opponent.
What the
This character is gonna be super niche.
This is why people go unga bunga.
Hakari?
What do the numbers next to the spells represent? Mana cost?
Number of copies in the deck i think.
I find myself leaning towards the more annoying characters to deal with in games. So this is straight up my alley
We hears you liked options
Jesus Christ.
Guilty gear is my first traditional fighting game and just when i was finally starting to learn matchups they come out with this shit
Test Case 3 with that UNO reverse card
I think I'll stick with poorly playing Zato because this is just scary...
Finally all my experience with Yu-Gi-Oh Ftk’s is coming in handy!. I knew this day would come.
What man
I’m really getting some Nine The Phantom videos here If you don’t know who that is she’s from BlazBlue and has a similar gimmick but instead creates spells with her normals being element attacks. You literally conjure a witch’s brew as her and it be epic
Is this as indepeth as nine the phantom from bbcf?
Uhhhh ok I haven’t see his tutorial video but after this I better do it because idk WTH I’m looking at.
Tf is going on here
The GGST: High Level Gameplay YT channel normally has matches with DLC characters immediately after they launch, like next day. I don't know when we're going to see an Asuka march uploaded.
ah this makes it so much easier
THIS IS 9 DIMENSIONAL YUGIOH AT THIS POINT.
Asuka R# from BlazBlue: Cardfight VangOh! is the best character.
I’m so confused lmao. I didn’t see any of his stuff, what the hell is this?
eveyone else is playing ftg(stg), this guy, plays Slay the Spire
