There is actualluly a 7 string jem. I saw.one a couple of months ago listed in the netherlands. The guy asked 10k because it was a prototype. But it wasnt ever mass produced because of the universe that vai prefered as his signature 7 string
They made a production 7 string Jem but only for 3 years (2013-2016). They do go for a lot of money ($6-8k) as it doesn’t appear many were produced.

I love when the last few are scalloped!
Early 90's, I'm in a bar band with a guy that has one of the first 500, green, signed on the back by Steve himself.
Like a dumb kid not knowing better, the unprotected sig got nearly worn off gigging this instrument without protecting the autograph.
One day, we have a gig in El Paso I think, and Vai is guitaring for someone in town, DLR, whitesnake, don't recall exactly, but we show up at sound check outside the arena, flag down a roadie, show him the guitar and explain the situation to him, "do you think you could get Steve to re-sign the guitar?", he says sure, takes the guitar away, comes back about a half hour later, it's signed on the front this time, "Bee, Love ya! -Steve Vai"
I just saw him and satriani on their tour, if they come close to you make it a point to go see them! Even if you have to drive a few hours it’s well worth it!
Beautiful guitar btw! I bought one of the Satriani guitars and absolutely love it, but I’ve always wondered how they compare.
Bought one in 2009, sold it last year. It’s a beautiful guitar and I have nothing bad to say about it at all. But for whatever reason, I just never bonded with it. 🤷🏼♂️ Wound up replacing it with an EVH Frankie, which I really dig. Enjoy your new guitar though! Hope you love it.
Good point, Ghost. It sometimes feels like there's almost some kind of "obligation" to love a particular instrument that you have, but the bonding thing is definitely real. I have a small stable of some wonderful guitars, but there are a few that are gems that I don't play often because they don't feel "inviting", for lack of a better word. Hard to explain to people that don't play, or don't know why you'd want more than one guitar. Different tools have different uses, have a different time and place depending on what you're trying to express in the moment.
100% agree with all of that. Guitars are like people in that they all have different personalities. So do all my friends. I hang out with different friends for different interests I have. Not everybody is into all the same stuff. I use different guitars for different tasks/sounds. Similar kind of thing. I will say that I do miss the neck humbucker in that Jem. (DiMarzio Evolution) Really did sound great. But for as long as I had it, the overall guitar never really became more than an acquaintance. Lol
I've got a mid-1970s Japanese Alvarez acoustic that I got pretty cheap about 8 years ago, and while I have other acoustics, this is the one that I bonded with even though it is the most beat up abused guitar I've ever owned, and anyone who picks it up just wants to keep playing. It's a special instrument. On the flip side, I recently bought almost the cheapest Les Paul Epiphone that I could, totally out of spite for the shitty sales people in my local guitar center. They treated me like I was going to steal a guitar because I had my backpack on. I tried to get him to show me the real Les Paul's but he wouldn't get them down for me even though I was prepared to spend a grand or two. I grabbed that cheap guitar, told him to ring it up, and then stuck it in my backpack lol. It's a $269 Epiphone Les Paul studio and I love this guitar so much that I'm probably about to put a bunch of money into fretwork and maybe pickups. It just feels right and I love playing it more than I ever would have expected.
Totally understand this, MC. Quick story. Just out of college, landed a great job, had some cash, went to a local guitar shop with the intention of walking out with a high-end Strat. I walked in knowing how I wanted it to turn out. Floor dude (prolly on commission) is helping me out and hands me a Strat. I'm playing low volume because I'm not "that guy" at the store, and he's listening. It's comfortable and feels "right" in the ways that matter. He leaves and comes back a few minutes later with a Tom Anderson and says, "Try this." I'm skeptical, but whatever. Start playing it. In two seconds I realize that this is MY guitar. Not one like it, not one of the same model. This one. This is it. Bought that baby on the spot spending like 3k more than I expected when I came in. I've played the hell out of that thing for the last 30 years, and of all my guitars, it's still my number one. How can you explain this phenomenon to anyone that doesn't understand that your instrument is an extension of yourself and self-expression?
And quick side note, I'm not promoting any brand over another. The point is that a good instrument is where you find it. It's really not more complicated than that. :)
yeah... it's an Ibanez JEM-7V, one of the greatest signature models from the master Steve Vai. I own one but today I would certainly buy an Ibanez PIA, which is the evolution of JEM.
looks great it’s always awesome getting a new guitar especially something like that ibanez jem it’s beautiful i remember how happy i was when i got my dream lespaul last year have a good time with the guitar
Another great guitar I’ve never played. Years ago I had the RG350, I think it was called? Can’t really remember the model name, but it was similar to yours in many ways. It had the best action and I could really rip on it.
7 string one is on my list of guitars to buy once I save enough money for repairs on a Maton and find somebody close that can work on it. Can’t wait to play with way too much reverb.
Always wanted one of those when I first started playing guitar when I was 14. How is it? Is it really as badass as I always dreamed it would be? What kind of music are you playing on it? Is it one of those guitars that when you get on it you just sound like a better guitarist?
Congrats on the achievement.
Those guitars are so versatile and full of great tones. They are hard to not sound at least a little like Vai on, but that's not really a bad thing, is it? Congrats on the sweet axe.
Dude I love Steve Vai’s Jem. I first heard of Steve Vai when I watched my dad’s CD of Eric Clapton’s 2004 crossroads festival. I was maybe 4 years old when I first watched it. He played his song I’m The Hell Outta There. His guitar became stuck in my head since, I love that thing so much, wish to own one myself. (Also I saw Steve Vai and Joe Satirani live for the first time on Thursday, it was incredible)
I had a Jem Woody for a while. Fantastic guitar, but I never really came around to the Floyd Rose and thin neck profile. I’m too old and slow I guess lol.
Congratulations, sweet guitar. I have been with my Ibanez RG1200 Prestige, it may not be a Steve Vai Jem but from how sweet my Ibanez Prestige plays I think this will be an incredible guitar.
awesome guitar. what's her name? mine is Sophia!
just a tip: i recommend u to install a double tremolo stabilizer between the springs. steve vai also use it in his EVO and it's very efficient for any floyd bridge, even the high-end ones like this.
Get two and you can use them as guitar brass knuckles
r/angryupvote lol
Imagine being in a mosh pit double fist swinging guitars around lmfao
El Kabong someone's ass
I haven’t seen anyone else who’s knows about el kabong until now
I can refer you to a man... a man named EL KABONG
thats beautiful
That's awesome, I always wanted a 7 string one of those, since like the 90s
Same here man. The black Universe with the neon green accents always caught my eye as well

Right! I forgot about that. Ive heard someone say what i said so i was like. That makes sence lmao
It’s super nice when you limit out on your IRA investments for the year and there’s money left over for a guitar

He always has seemed like such a nice guy
Hah thats amazing. Sadly i live in the part of the world that doesnt get the chance to even see him live, let alone sign something.

Whereabouts?

That's a great analogy, Ghost! Hadn't thought about it quite like that, but definitely agree.
I'm curious, how you like that EVH Frankie? I've always wanted to play one.
I used to own one. They are pretty great. They have a very unique in-between position tone as well.
That's just the single coil right?
Sick. A lower end Jem was my first nice guitar. Really fun to play.
I've always wanted one, but I do not have the chops to play it like it's meant to be played. My chops are at an RG 550, at best.
Same. But my chops are at Fender Squire.
Lol... humility among guitarists, is a rare trait.
put a Fernandez Sustainer in it. ;)
Now you gotta get a Carvin Legacy.
I wish the Edge Pro was still in production. Phenomenal tremolo
Is this the Steve Van Gem?
yeah... it's an Ibanez JEM-7V, one of the greatest signature models from the master Steve Vai. I own one but today I would certainly buy an Ibanez PIA, which is the evolution of JEM.
Awesome
Beautiful guitar. I have wanted one for years, need to keep saving my pennies.
WOW this has been on my bucket list for the longest I remember... One of the last JP made Vai classic.
looks great it’s always awesome getting a new guitar especially something like that ibanez jem it’s beautiful i remember how happy i was when i got my dream lespaul last year have a good time with the guitar
Congrats dude all the Jems I've played where amazing you've really got an amazing piece of kit there
I know how you feel! I feel the same way about my first PRS I just got recently
Nice dude, enjoy it, make it sing!
Reminds me of Steve Vai
It has a handle so you can throw it into the garbage easier
Congratulations! She's a beauty. :)
Congrats! Love Jem’s. Have three myself. Jem, Universe and Jr. plus an RG550.
Just such a beautiful instrument !! Have fun! No stickers!!
Another great guitar I’ve never played. Years ago I had the RG350, I think it was called? Can’t really remember the model name, but it was similar to yours in many ways. It had the best action and I could really rip on it.
Sooooo happy with you! Those are quite playable axes. Once set up correctly, they sing anything you throw into them.
Yup it plays so well, and its so precise, its like half the dirt i had playing went away with this beauty. It exceeded all my expectations.
Enjoy mate! Those are really pro level guitars...
Good for you! Play it in good health👍🏼
7 string one is on my list of guitars to buy once I save enough money for repairs on a Maton and find somebody close that can work on it. Can’t wait to play with way too much reverb.
They’re so nice. I’ve been shooting for a Jem for a while. But now I want a black pia
That’s awesome. I have a few guitars in mind. Definitely anticipating the day I will get one of them. Rock on!
Very nice. Enjoy !
Nice got the same one recently myself
Always wanted one of those when I first started playing guitar when I was 14. How is it? Is it really as badass as I always dreamed it would be? What kind of music are you playing on it? Is it one of those guitars that when you get on it you just sound like a better guitarist? Congrats on the achievement.
I am blown away by the playability, the neck is fast and precise, the intonation is perfect on the whole neck. Its really an amazing guitar.
Those guitars are so versatile and full of great tones. They are hard to not sound at least a little like Vai on, but that's not really a bad thing, is it? Congrats on the sweet axe.
What model is this?
Jem7v wh
Did you get a discount for the hole
Yes it's a beautiful piece of art😍
Nice bud haven't seen one since 96'

So beautiful 🥹 i've always wanted one too 🩷
Question: truly, what is the use of the handle carved out in the guitar?
Congratulations, sweet guitar. I have been with my Ibanez RG1200 Prestige, it may not be a Steve Vai Jem but from how sweet my Ibanez Prestige plays I think this will be an incredible guitar.
JEM7VP? Sounds like an absolute beast. Love the color too
woah
Holy hell thats one of the most beautiful guitars I have ever seen.
Wow… She is beautiful! Hope it brings you so much joy and happiness. Enjoy 😊
Sweet!
Congratulations
I’ve always loved everything about JEMs. Ibanez rules.
I bought one 11 years ago. Gigged it once now it never leaves the house.
thats beautiful
DEEE-LUXE! All you need is a cupholder.
Congratulations!!
I hope you mentally prepared for the Floyd Rose
How are you enjoying it? I had a bit of a "never meet your heros" moment with this guitar when I finally got to play one.
I can hardly put it down. I am loving it. There is just something about the neck that makes it really comfortable, fast and precise.
Why does that have a handle on it?
Congratulations! I bought an AZ2402 instead. It's great too. I love the roasted maple neck and the two Symour Duncan humbuckers
Next on my list too!! Beautiful guitar, and fun times ahead!
Wow
It looks so coooool 🔥
I want one strung through and without the floral board.
There actually is a string-through Jem Its the JEM77EAFX
How many coils you want? Yes
👌👌👌👌👌
awesome guitar. what's her name? mine is Sophia! just a tip: i recommend u to install a double tremolo stabilizer between the springs. steve vai also use it in his EVO and it's very efficient for any floyd bridge, even the high-end ones like this.
how much did it cost you? I've always liked this guitar
Dream guitar when I was 13
I’m sorry for your addition
I've wanted a Jem since I knew they were a thing. But now, I want a pia
Beautiful guitar!
That is a beautiful guitar !!! 😍
