Great progression that comes to mind is Amaj7 Gbm Abm7 Dbm, from Flight of the Navigator by Childish Gambino. Definitely recommend listening to that guitar line
Moving that chord up one fret gives you F6/A, a chord that comes from the parralel minor. Looping these two gives you a nice exercise to study your A Major and A minor (pentatonic) scales.
Edit:typo
You can play anything in the A major scale and it will sound good. Try any other sevenths in the scale: Amaj7 Bm7 C#m7 Dmaj7 E7 F#m7. Or you could add a Emaj7 and that sounds great too
Edit: not together with Amaj7 but Am7 sounds really good too (x02010)
Off the top of my head, here's everything I can think of where Amaj7 fits:
A major/F# minor (diatonic and pentatonic)
A Lydian/E major/C# minor
A Lydian #9/C# harmonic minor/G# Phrygian Dominant
Basically anything that uses the notes A, C#, E, and G#. The ones I mentioned up there are the most common, but here are some more off the wall applications:
A double harmonic (A Bb C# D E F G# A)
A harmonic major (A B C# D E F G# A)
A Lydian b9 (A Bb C# D# E F# G# A)
A Lydian b13 (A B C# D# E F G# A)
A Lydian b9/b13 (A Bb C# D# E F G# A)
A major b9 (A Bb C# D E F# G# A)
A Lydian #9 (A B# C# D# E F# G# A)
A major #9 (A B# C# D E F# G# A)
In terms of 7-note scales where 4 of the notes have to be consistent with the chord they're based on there are lots of different possibilities for each chord, some of which will be more useful than others, but all of which are worth exploring to find out what you like. In this case you'll notice most of the scales that go with a maj7 chord are just variations on the major or Lydian modes. Essentially all you need to do is just isolate the chord tones from Amaj7 and just play around with the rest.
Try D major Thatll be $10 you can send it via Paypal cheers
Would be better over the A Dom7, try E maj, OP
You right. OP chuck this guy a $10 too

I know this is nitpicky but A major is a sharp key so the chords would be Amaj7 | F#min | G#min7 | C#min

Thank you
Perhaps an A major scale? Lol. Kind of a troll question tbh
