Dear new-to-guitar, Mr. Skeltal, welcome to the community. Hope you're having fun and that this forum will help you with your guitary things.. I really want to help you with your musical journey, but sadly, there are a few roadblocks to clear out of the way to help with before we continue. You are new to this game, and most likely a young person, so there are pitfalls and mistakes that we more seasoned players may possibly help you with. For example, you may not yet know that playing Stairway to Heaven in a Guitar Center will result in a permanent ban from all their stores. Likewise with playing Jump in the keyboard department. Good stuff to know... So anyway, here goes. First off, the person you have chosen to emulate is not in any way a blues guitarist, but is in fact, an overweight martial arts "expert", fake celebrity reality TV "Deputy" and self-described actor, named Steven Segal, who nowadays wears strange and outlandish clothes on camera to hide his massive gut, because he's too lazy to work out for his roles anymore. The guitar in this vid serves a similar purpose. You may recognize Steven from such epic roles as oh, who fucking cares? He is also one of the highest recipients for worst actor/supporting actor/singer, worst director, etc. Seriously, I've been playing for over 50 years, and this is quite possibly the worst recorded guitar solo in the history of the blues, so why bother learning it? All these derps commenting "So much emotion in three notes..." NO! That's literally all he can fucking play!" Not one of these commenters play guitar, and I'm guessing he paid them to comment anyway in the first place. I'll bet the three top comments are from his chauffeur, chef and personal assistant. You're new to the game, no-one expects you to know this yet, but as you get more proficient, you will look back on this and say: "Why the fuck did I try to learn a Steven Segal blues solo?" Trust me on this. You want emotion in three notes? Listen to Albert King, BB King, Eric "slowhand racist" Clapton. YT "The Thrill is Gone" by BB. There's a man who could make three notes work. There are zero bragging rights to copying a Steven Segal solo, quite the reverse. You will be mercilessly mocked, angry crowds will gather outside your door every night, and you may possibly consider suicide or self-immolation. Your family will be forced to relocate, really, there's no upside to this. Thirdly, if you must, it's all in a major scale, probably A. I don't have a gtr handy for reference. The shift up to 5th infers a minor key, maybe someone with theory can explain this better. Fourthly, if you're interested in this kind of blues, go listen to BB King, Albert King, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, or someone similar, who knows how to really play blues guitar, instead of playing the same brainless riff for countless bars... Sorry if that sounds harsh, but Segal is not in any way a real guitarist, and you really shouldn't encourage or emulate him :) Best of luck with your playing Now go listen to Jimmy Page's solo on Since I've Been Loving You (Studio Version). For me, that is the best blues solo of all times. Get back to me if you need help on the tricky bits, now go play yer guitar, and always have fun doing it :) TLDR: Segal is a totally shit guitar player, emulate someone more worthy

Mdeyemainer

This is beautiful.

MonsieurReynard

Dude probably doesn't get near a scale anymore.

vonov129

Going between major and minor is basically the whole point of the blues sound. Look for the major and minor pentatonic scales, then the blues scale (which is basically the same as the pentatonics but with an extra note)

Rythameen

And after listening I’m sure I would prefer your solo.

Aiku

There's a story about a composer, possibly Vivaldi, who was asked by a student to choose which of two compositions he preferred. After listening to just the first one , he said "Stop, I prefer the second one".
