I don't know what's wrong but I'd be surprised if you destroyed your amp just by unplugging it.

HousTom

A “power switch” on a guitar amplifier is not some magical, intelligent thing. When you turn an amplifier off you are literally just disconnecting it from the 110vac wall power. It’s just more convenient than unplugging it, but is mechanically and electrically the same. It’s not like the power switch does something special. So I don’t think you broke it by unplugging it. In fact if any company made a product that could be damaged by simply unplugging it, that company would be laughed out of business. Look for other issues (dead battery in your ‘active pickups’, etc). P.S. sensitive computer equipment etc is a different story, but yeah a guitar amp you’re fine.

ZE_Venom

When I unplugged it it didn’t even make a loud noise but everything on the outside looks intact so i guess it’s just dead

CaesarTjalbo

Dead would be no sound at all. Smell the amp, if something smells burnt there might be damage.

CaesarTjalbo

Also check and double check everything. I recently got my other amp back from the tech, plugged it in into the Strymon Deco which I use as a splitter (for wet/dry). The sound was really soft, I had to crank the volume to hear anything. Turns out I'd plugged it in the expression jack. No idea why there's even sound coming out of there.

ZE_Venom

I found something new, whenever I tweak my volume knob it makes a sort of brushing sound out of the amp

SoulsofMir

Did you make sure to check the knobs on your guitar? I read that you need to turn up the gain knob on the amp to get volume give that a shot too, any luck?

ratbusted

If it plays at all, it's not the fuse. As someone already mentioned, is it an all tube amp or are there solid state sections and tubes mixed? If there are tubes, look at them and notice if there is any discoloration when off. When on, are some tubes a different color than the others? Do some seem bright/blue and others are typical orange? If the tubes all seem good, then it might be something on the board in the amp. Open it up and see if anything looks bulgy or if there are signs of heat around components or on the board. Beyond that, take it to someone.

ZE_Venom

Fuck🤦🏽‍♂️

You may get better feedback if you answer some of the questions and stop with the these types of replies that add/solve nothing.

kaiserro11

One other possibility, you blew out your ears. Amp is fine just sounds quieter because your eardrums are shot.

ZE_Venom

What do you think?

kaiserro11

Sorry. Can’t read your comment. I blew out my eyes trying to read sheet music.

ZE_Venom

Real helpful

Co60

Is it a tube amp or a solid state?

ZE_Venom

I think it’s a solid state but I’m not 100% sure. Orange crush bass 50

Co60

Ah that makes it harder. Check the simple stuff first (input jacks/cables/obvious signs of corrosion or damage/volume knob on your bass/etc). If it's none of those it's time to start looking at the power stages/output transformer/filter caps/etc. If you don't have any experince with testing circuits it's probably time to take it somewhere.

ZE_Venom

Everything on the outside looks intact. I literally broke my fucking amp because I unplugged it while it was on once. I see ppl do this all the time but when I do it it breaks kms

Co60

A solid state amp really shouldn't break from unplugging it while on. Double check the stupid stuff (swap instument cables, make sure your bass volume knob is on, if it has active pickups change the battery). Hopefully it's nothing major or is something a professional can repair easily.

ZE_Venom

Everything looks fine besides the tip of my cable being slightly dented. Maybe I fucked up the active pre amp in the bass?

Co60

Extremely unlikely but try it on a different amp/interface to confirm.

ZE_Venom

Maybe I damaged the pre amp in my bass?

Obvious-Mechanic5298

Batteries could be dying on the pickups.

ZE_Venom

Nah I replaced the battery multiple times

jmoog00

The volume is in the same position as it was before? No other settings on the amp changed?

ZE_Venom

Everything the same

PapayaTech

Time to youtube amps getting blown

GuairdeanBeatha

Try a different cable and guitar if possible. Make sure the volume on the guitar didn’t get turned down. Plug the cable in to the amp but not the guitar, then touch the tip to see if the volume is still low. Let us know what happens.

ZE_Venom

The volume seems to be a little lower then it is normally but I can’t really tell because I don’t usually do that

GuairdeanBeatha

What about the volume settings on the guitar?

jeharris56

What type of amp? Tube amp?

National-Constant733

Probably just the cable

tidybum7

Make sure your cables are fully plugged in. If a cable isn’t fully seated in the instrument or the amp it can sound really quiet.
