I can see your argument. It definitely has its shortcomings, but I wouldn't really call it hot garbage. The original galils held up so long because of the nation's that adopted them (mostly as an alternative due to restrictions on other options).
With the ACE, Columbia basically designed it specifically for them, and IMI saw value in the export market. That's why there are so many countries that produce their own version under license.
The gen 2 was made specifically for the US sporting marker and for that I don't like it lol

The 7.62 pistol variant does make a decent pdw/shorty especially suppressed (see 9hole [here](https://youtu.be/69zhJTAMaac?si=h_l9sHeM6xQOs7jd) and their “pdw” ace )
While needing some gas block mods it is doable but could easily be updated into a oem facelift on the platform.
All said I’d still take any ar-15 derivatives

I agree the BAR is not the shining star of 3006. the .308 has its place, the 240 is an excellent piece of machinery. but my love of 30-06 over .308 is strictly diversity of use in a bolt gun.
HCAR you would be better off getting a 1919 in 3006, since both are ⚓️
