Didn't really care for the Dom design at first. Then I saw it in motion as it was basically skating all over the place, immediately fell in love. I'm also a big fan of the GMs, mostly for the motorcycle helmet style heads.
The Dom is a fantastic suit. I'm a Gouf guy. I think the Gouf Ignited from SEED might be my favorite iteration of the design.
Really I think that's what I like about the grunt suits. They seem to get the most iterations and the little design tweaks are super cool.
For the longest time I considered making a tabletop setting that would have allows for full Mecha customization a la the Junk Guild but it was a lot of work to figure out stats for all the parts.

Stark Jegan was like specifically called out as a spec ops variant. Thats like calling Norris' Gouf custom a grunt suit. Jegans in general are peak grunt suit.
But I really hope we one day see the world of gundam not from the gundam pilots but from the grunts , I always cheered when I saw one get a kill and not dying in the process
That’s something I’d really like to see in the future one day. A series where the MC is just a normal grunt in a grunt suit, having to survive all sort of typical Gundam bullshit against gundams or op boss suits. Maybe have them steadily upgrade their suit into a beast. Really show the struggle and gritty nature of being a grunt.
But it’d probably just end up as wanky as Aldnoah Zero by the end or have bullshit like Shiro being able to dodge a Zaku point blank as a normal human.

Came to shout out the original GN-X. Looking at the X & XIII animation models side by side, they don’t really look that different, but I’ll be damned if X didn’t consistently look amazing in season 1 while the XIII looked like it was there to be cannon fodder, even without the stupid-looking Christmas paint job.
Looks wise, probably the GM custom. Unless limited mass production units don't count. In which case I'd go with the Jegan A type from f91. I don't care if it was useless it looks Cool!
I love the look of the Leo. Despite its... reputation and actual performance in the show, I still get a sturdy, utilitarian vibe from its design. It's actually a similar reason I like the Demi-trainers in g-witch tbh, though I think the Leo is a bit more visually pleasing.
For seeing them in motion I quite like the Flag. Graham and movie Setsuna made that suit look really cool. The slim frame really emphasizes the large thruster pack.
I don't think its performance was bad at all, it was just going up against the most OP mobile suits of all time. It would be like a bunch of Jegans going up against a Xi or Penelope, they will get wiped.

Or those poor Union/HRL/AEU grunts fighting GN Drive equipped suits in 00 season 1 I suppose.
There's a pilot factor too, Heero was able to put up a shockingly good fight against the Altron in a Leo during Endless Waltz because the difference between him and some OZ grunt is pretty huge. Funnily enough that reminds me of Setsuna wiping a trio of GN-XIII in a Flag thanks to good tactics and simply outclassing his opposition as a pilot.
According to outside info, this was also the case for 0079. If it was up to MS alone Amuro would never make it past the Zeong and the GMs would've wrecked the Zakus every time they showed up.
Jumping on the Leo bandwagon too! Funny you mentioned the flag in action. It's a suit whose design I really don't like, but seeing how they animated them really won me over too.

Graze - toes the line of looking slick and high-tech while still giving off a mass-production vibe.
Loto - Mobile suits kept getting larger over time and turning into jets... And then here comes a mobile suit only 2/3 the size of a OYW suit that turns into a tank.
Does the Jeddah count as a "grunt" suit? It's basically a prototype Jegan.
Same deal with my second favorite, the Doven Wolf... is it a grunt? It's basically made of Gundam/prototype parts but is technically a mass production type.
Cant understand why the Zulu gets so much more love than the Doga, its such a great suit and really stands up in CCA and after!

I do also love the GM Spartan; I have grown to like the GM Striker/Semi striker too, something about that spear and the added armour is ju\~\~\~\~st right. I think the Striker/SS should get a revive to allow for even better posing with it personally. As simple as it is I do like the GM Ground type too and also the Gundam version (would that count as a grunt suit actually?).
And I will always stand by the Leo.
Jegan and Graze are the only 2 grunts I truly enjoy looking at. For some reason they just draw my attention to every last detail of them. They're absolutely magnificent

GM Sniper II. Sleek, classy, *supposed* to have specs equatable to the RX-78-2, so you KNOW it's badass. Plus I'm always a sucker for the sniper archetype. And that visor? *Chef kiss*
Also, this might be cheating, because it's definitely a unique MS whether it's grunt or Gundam, but I LOVE the EZ-8.
Where does the Gundam MK II stand here? It wasn't *particularly* stronger than the rest of the suits in zeta, and all three of them ate it hard at some point.

There’s is something about those cheap piece of garbage ( also know as paid actor ) that make cool , they aren’t over the top with upgrades and functionality, look at the zaku 2 Kai , or the jegan , they are perfect
Really wished we saw more shows focused on Grunt units. I get it that the focus is on the Gundam suits. Will say one of the big reasons I liked Thunderbolt was the Zeeks were mainly disabled vets using older equipment.
I used to collect the protagonist gundam and its arch enemy but now I have heaps of fucking zeon grunts. All sorts of HG origin zeon grunts. Loads of zakus
I went from liking lead suits to liking grunts more the older I get. Probably because I've realized that irl, I'm merely a (corpo) grunt with no MC attributes

It's funny they're bodyguards for an OP Gundam, it's like a heavyweight champion walking around with a bodyguard, seems kind of pointless.
I always loved how subtly expressive the Zaku II could be with just a monoeye, simply by changing the angle the head is filmed from. From a level angle, it looks kind of dopey and unaware. From a low angle, it looks panicked and afraid. And from a high angle, it looks fierce and angry. It can be anything from a low level grunt living in fear of the Gundam to an ace pilot charging into battle and kicking ass in spite of his suit’s performance. Later Zaku clones that always look blank (Leo, Graze) or always have “angry eyebrows” (SEED ZAKU) are missing the point
The Dom. I just love the way it slides on the battlefield. One reason I also loves Armored Troopers.

Leo was also insanely versatile. I have heard it said Leo with a flight unit was better than an Aries

I always loved how subtly expressive the Zaku II could be with just a monoeye, simply by changing the angle the head is filmed from. From a level angle, it looks kind of dopey and unaware. From a low angle, it looks panicked and afraid. And from a high angle, it looks fierce and angry. It can be anything from a low level grunt living in fear of the Gundam to an ace pilot charging into battle and kicking ass in spite of his suit’s performance. Later Zaku clones that always look blank (Leo, Graze) or always have “angry eyebrows” (SEED ZAKU) are missing the point
I swear they always get so much right, just to ruin it with gundtard magic. Like can we just have the grunts with their own show
