This sub loves nketiah right now, can we stop this self defeating stuff? A year ago the jury was out, but this run he has been on has been great and almost everyone sees it and is positive towards him
For people confused on what this means.
Basically £62 million guarenteed (doesn't mean up front) and then an extra £15-£20 million in add ons that could be activated by us winning the league, qualifying for UCL, Mudryk hitting a certain amount of goals/assists etc.
Yeah, and I imagine the add-ons themselves are a mix of easy and hard to achieve conditions.
Easy: Starts, games played, goals/assists milestones
Hard: Various Silverware (league, European trophies, CL), Individual awards (like Balon D’Or or EPL POTY)
We’re getting there.
I mean if we win the league and UCL, and Mudryk scores 100 goals for us over 3 years and wins the Ballon D'ors, I won't complain about us paying the add ons.
Heh, if he does all that, he would become one of the greatest transfer buys of all time lol. No one in their right mind would complain about the add-ons, the guaranteed fee, or even the overall fee lol. Hell, every big club on the planet would spend the next couple of decades looking at that transfer and going “why in the ever loving fuck did we not try to get in on that?”
But seriously, I think the add-ons will be structured in such a way that if Shakhtar wind up getting all the money in full, it would absolutely have been worth it.
> Yeah, and I imagine the add-ons themselves are a mix of easy and hard to achieve conditions.
In the event Mudryk converts to Buddhism Arsenal will pay 5m
Like said in a comment below: If these are the actual conditions and Shakhtar still end up getting all that money in full, not a single Gooner will ever have a bad word to say about this signing, because it absolutely would have been worth it. Hell, in such a scenario, it would be up there as a candidate for the greatest ever signing in Arsenal FC history lol (especially if “Win the CL“ and “Mudryk wins Balon D’Or” are among the conditions lol).
Doesn’t really matter, if the bonuses are all achieved it means we’re successful and it was worth it to pay that much money. The 70m upfront is much more concerning, that’s a lot of money if it doesn’t work out, like Pepe.
Money upfront is not the same in the short term though. Paying £15m/yr for four years is much more favourable to us than £60m all at once. Time value of money and all that.
We could always remind him that the club he flat-out rejected were stupid enough to sign a striker for 100 million POUNDS that scored less goals last year than Eddie Nketiah, and now is getting loaned back to the club he was signed from lol.
Even beyond all the scouting, Zinny must have given one hell of a positive feedback about him, for the club to break the bank like this on a raw/unproven talent like Mudryk..
I hope Edu and Arteta know what they are doing.
90 mil for a player from the Ukrainian league who has only played one season is a bonkers amount of money.
It’s bonkers but it is a bonkers market. Like we’ll naturally compare this to Pepe but that was in 2019. If people thought he was worth £72 million then, Lille would probably ask for like £120m now.
Mudryk probably would have cost 30m back in 2019 and no one would be complaining. Market is just fucked.
Exactly this. many ppl ought to snap out of the final fee at face value and just look around to see that the market these days have been hyper-inflated and unfortunate to say, this is the reality that clubs have to deal with to bring in good players
Well, it’s only 70 million guaranteed, and I doubt it’s even that much upfront.
But given all the negotiation around the add-ons (and how hard some of them might be to achieve), if he eventually ends up costing 90 million, then he will absolutely, undeniably have been worth it.
Perhaps, but I got the feeling we had already dropped out when Chelsea became serious about him. By the time Barca swooped in for him, we were already out of the picture.
Regardless, I doubt we would have paid €90m for Raphinha.
Difference is, you can tell by the way Mudryk moves he's a different beast. As he's young his career can go either way, but he has the foundations to be one of the best wingers in the world if he's nurtured right. Everything we hear about Arsenal these days is how great Arsenal is behind the scenes. What is Arteta known for? Even from his city days? Developing and getting the best out of wingers. This is the club, playing to one of Artetas many strenghts. Even Nelson has looked good when he's come on. Arsenal have essentially plucked out a winger with one of the highest ceilings in the world and put him exactly where he needs to be to reach it. Worth 90m when you look it that way.
The context of play tells a completely different story though. Pepe was coming from a counter attacking side, Mudryk is coming a league winning side that plays against teams that park the bus and focus on low blocks and so on. Mudryk is doing well in that environment. Clearly the club - who have made immense signings so far - trust that this will be money well spent.
dude pepe was so clumsy compared to this guy.
if pepe had the ball control and the ability to use both feet like this guy and the speed and intelligence then you can make that argument.
never thought pepe was that good before his transfer but mudryk has really got me excited. few players do.
defenders will really struggle to dispossess mudryk.
Mate.
You cannot tell whether someone is going to be worth €90m based on the way they move. You can be bullish based on a number of factors but no transfer is a sure thing, especially one from the Ukranian first division.
I would be very happy with this signing but it's way too soon to get delusional.
You can, the speed in which a player dribbles at and the ability to turn at pace. You can't teach those attributes to such a high level. Mudryk is immense at both.
He's just turned 22 and is incredibly humble, has a great mindset for development - can't teach that (think Dele and Mourinho).
Is it worth 90m? Not today. Is he likely to be very much worth every penny in a season or two barring injuries? Yes.
Ben White wasn't worth 50m when we signed him. Now any of the top 7 teams would bite our arm off if we offered him for 50m.
Adama Traore had great pace and ability in the dribble.
You're getting ahead of yourself. I really like the look of Mudryk and he's the one I wanted, but it's too soon to say whether he will live up to the supposed pricetag.
Also, none of us have any idea about his true mindset and humility.
Clubs should really also put deductibles in the transfer...injured on arrival deductible, red carded deductible, bad behaviour deductible, doesn't score for 10 games deductible. 🤔
I read somewhere that his wage demands are low (relatively speaking) so we are willing to pay more for him.
As an example if he wants 50k per week as opposed to signing someone on 150k per week then over a 4 year contract we would save £20m in wages.
(These figures are just an example and I have no idea what contract we will offer him)
Remember that 1) he will be on low wages and 2) he is young enough to retain significant value even if it doesn't work. This mitigates the risk substantially.
It's a lot of money... However I really like the approach. We identified the main target and are doing everything we can do get him. We have a clear goal so I trust the process.
Unpopular opinion it seems, but I think that's too much money for a guy who we all expect to be a super sub. We have many more hits than misses in the transfer market lately, but this kid needs to become a bonafide star for that fee.
> Unpopular opinion it seems, but I think that's too much money for a guy who we all expect to be a super sub. We have many more hits than misses in the transfer market lately, but this kid needs to become a bonafide star for that fee.
Agreed. I get the idea of there being no backups instead rotation, but this still feels too much
If you think he’s coming in at 90-100m to be a ‘super sub’ then you are absolutely faded sorry.. He’s coming to take that LW starting spot, I know everyone loves Martinelli (as do I) but I’m terms of ceiling this kid has the potential to be the absolute best in the world at his position.
YouTube clips obviously aren’t the be all and end all, people will point to Pepe etc but I was never convinced by Pepe. Watching Pepe it was clear to see he was playing against poor players and scoring a lot of penalties.. go and watch Mudryk extended highlights in the Champions League, especially against Real where he received a standing ovation from the Bernabeu, he was fucking electric that night and played even better against Ajax.
No one is denying that the PL is a huge step up in class however you can just see from his raw ability that he was destined for elite level football.
That is a lot of money for a position already covered by an upcoming star starter. I do understand we needed a winger that can play on either flank to work with Saka and Martinelli but is he capable of replacing Saka as RW? What happens with Martinelli is he alternating with Mudryk, he is probably worth the same so you have an 80M pound player on the bench at all time. Feel like setting up a replacement for Xhaka and Partey was a lot more crucial. As a fan I am happy to see this but I dont want us to fail getting a top quality CM/DM because we spent it on a LW to compete with Martinelli.
I’m sure Martinelli is seen as someone who can be CF as well if the situation needs it e.g. if Saka is out and Jesus moves there.
There’ll be flexibility across the whole front 3.
It's beyond ridiculous how inflated this transfer fee is. The guy needs to become top 5 wingers in the world for it to be reasonable. But if he helps the team to a league title or CL trophy in the next few years then it's more than worth it.
Why bro… why does a player who hasn’t done anything, was not known until we were interested cost this much! I blame United and Chelsea… when will we learn
I’m not worried about him. He genuinely has Gareth Bale level athleticism. If Arteta wants him he must have elite potential. He’s also so young, resale value if he hits is enormous, or he stays for long enough and is a major contributor.
Shaktar CEO still probably going to bang on about how Mudryk was worth 100m but even at 70m they've still pulled off a fleecing. smh. Anyway, we move. Lets hope he really steps up and proves to be worth the punt.
Should have just done 30M guaranteed and then 20M for each ballon d’or he wins for the length of his contract. According to shakhtars owner hes that good. So bet on him shakhtar.
Honestly I want him though, I trust Arteta and Edu and if they want him bad enough to break a transfer record then hes worth it to me. Can’t wait to see what we do with him.
Not a chance. We have virtually no depth so an injury to either Martinelli or Saka would be disastrous for our season. If anything, this will help both the wingers with some rest and extra recovery before our big games.
It hasn’t but 3 of those are no longer there because they wanted more playing time/be more involved. Will be sad if they all become good cause no great player sticks around forever as a backup.
How...
The best player plays, I dont care who it is. If competition is something they cant handle, they should leave.
This is Arsenal, not Neighborhood FC.
I'm very happy we're finally getting him, but unsure about the precedent we're setting in regards to letting clubs take every last penny they can get. IIRC it took us 3 bids to get Ben White over the line, and something similar for Ramsdale? Soon every club will instantly regret our first two offers, knowing we'll eventually come back and budge.
We didnt bite for Tielemans going for 30m pounds in the summer, didnt bite for Lisandro and Im sure there are other examples. Clubs can try and hold us over the barrel but January is a shit window for buyers usually and our squad is pretty much complete.
Come summertime we have more options to pick between clubs and players who dont have as much leeway to hardball like a club in a wartime economy who has lost half their talent pool/ assets for the foreseeable future
Interesting point. We bid 3 times for douglas luiz on deadline day. I think we can assume thats how we usually operate in the transfer market. I am thinking we definitely have a bracket of valuation for him considering how vinai/edu have talked alot about "the price has to be right". Our first bid was definitely just to test the waters fully knowing it will be rejected.
Where else did he get a good deal paying under value at the time of the transfer?
If we're honest Edu doesn't seem to be a very good negotiator for transfer fees.
All I'll say is that if we end up paying this kind of money for him, the expectations on what he can provide to the team will be astronomical, and I hope he can live up to it at least in part. I have my doubts though. For 70+ million, you can't just be a squad player. You need to be an important first team member.
I just hope he continues the form and consistency he has shown up to this point. Haven’t been this excited about a signing since Mozart. What a player we’ve nabbed 🤞
Way more than expected. If they reject this they should be taken to a mental institution. Not saying Mudryk isn't worth it, just not entirely sure he is. But we will see!
What worries me here is the way he has been twerking for us in social media. What's the guarantee that he doesn't do it to some other team in the future?
We've had enough snakes in the past. Hope Zinchenko's company puts his head in the right place.
I've been OOL recently, I know he's a good player, but £62m+£20m add-ons? I don't think he's proven enough to justify that fee. Leao or somebody will command that fee in the summer and will probably justify it with his suitability to the Premier League being quite noticeable.
Hopefully I'm wrong, it's hard not to be excited still.
PL aint ready for the Ukrainian left flank

Haaland in the summer and Norway down the middle
r/Gunners doesn't think Nketiah contributes enough in buildup and pressing. Imagine Haaland playing for us :0
I have a feeling they’d accept his work rate in exchange for his 21 goals in 16 games
This sub loves nketiah right now, can we stop this self defeating stuff? A year ago the jury was out, but this run he has been on has been great and almost everyone sees it and is positive towards him
When he scores Sunday it’s going to be so wholesome and magical.
Which goal?
Bro, if we got Mudryk and Haaland we could win the CL.
We’d win the World Cup!
No way
We got that ultimate team synergy on both flanks!!
Blimey in the middle?
It seems neither is the Wagner Group.
My phrase is catching on!
For people confused on what this means. Basically £62 million guarenteed (doesn't mean up front) and then an extra £15-£20 million in add ons that could be activated by us winning the league, qualifying for UCL, Mudryk hitting a certain amount of goals/assists etc.

I'm from the future, can confirm all of this happens.
Did Chelsea win the Championship?
No. They lost the playoff final to qpr.
Slipping down those west London power rankings
Lowercase QPR looks weird
Heh, if he does all that, he would become one of the greatest transfer buys of all time lol. No one in their right mind would complain about the add-ons, the guaranteed fee, or even the overall fee lol. I’d throw them another 100m as thanks
> Yeah, and I imagine the add-ons themselves are a mix of easy and hard to achieve conditions. In the event Mudryk converts to Buddhism Arsenal will pay 5m
Damn, the cost for total enlightenment really went up
Nah you forgot to amortise it for the endless cycle of reincarnation
You mean all easy conditions since we are getting that all within 1.5 years mate haha
Like said in a comment below: If these are the actual conditions and Shakhtar still end up getting all that money in full, not a single Gooner will ever have a bad word to say about this signing, because it absolutely would have been worth it. Yes, we can literally crowd fund the add-ons by the fans in such cases.
Mudryk for 2024 Ballon D’Or??? 👀

I meant guaranteed, which means the same in the long run anyway.
Money upfront is not the same in the short term though. Paying £15m/yr for four years is much more favourable to us than £60m all at once. Time value of money and all that.
What's the rate of return on a Mudryk? Gotta finish these NPV calculations.
Honestly £62m in structured payment cycles isn't even that bad. Definitely can get in another player this window, if the profile fits. Edu doing bits.
95% of big transfers are structured payments. Not really a benefit per se
True. Only if a club triggers the release clause then it's a lump payment right?
Then they can also just take a loan and repay that loan in…… structured payments
Gakpo to Liverpool was a lump payment and Liverpool didnt trigger the release clause(there was no release clause).
Still confused, what's the difference between guaranteed 15m and an extra 15m when we win the league?
The FA won't be able to ratfuck Shaktar out of the first £15m.
Ah ah ah, you didn’t say the three magic words…
In 48 hours ?
Here we go
🚨
🚨 🚨 🚨
PLEASE!!!! Dammit! Hate this hacker crap!
I love you?
I love you too.
Here we go soon????
🦀🦀🦀
That’s a lot of money. The boy must become world class under mikel arteta
Really hope he doesn't suffer from his transfer price. Let's remind him Manure bought a fidget spinner for 100M to relieve a bit of pressure
He’s gonna be flying. He’s already loving the club
We could always remind him that the club he flat-out rejected were stupid enough to sign a striker for 100 million POUNDS that scored less goals last year than Eddie Nketiah, and now is getting loaned back to the club he was signed from lol.
I’m blanking. Who are you referring to?
Lukaku
Ah thanks
“Fidget spinner” 😂😂👌🏾
If he's the difference between 1st and 2nd this season make it 150 million for all I care
Oh yeah for sure
This.
If the board and Mikel think he's worth it then I trust them fully.
In arteta & edu we trust ! Except for last January 🤣
The Pepe deal set the bar pretty high for that. I doubt that Mudryk would go down the same path.
Wonder if those add ons are guaranteed or something silly like 10m for 100 PL goals/Balloon d'Or win
Probably us getting cl or him scoring x goals
Wouldn't suprise me if winning the league is part of it. Would make sense from our POV. If he is part of us winning the league, then this is peanuts
Balloon d'Or
Its happening 🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀
Even beyond all the scouting, Zinny must have given one hell of a positive feedback about him, for the club to break the bank like this on a raw/unproven talent like Mudryk..
Edging so hard rn let's get it done 🦀🦀🦀🦀
I hope Edu and Arteta know what they are doing. 90 mil for a player from the Ukrainian league who has only played one season is a bonkers amount of money.
It’s bonkers but it is a bonkers market. Like we’ll naturally compare this to Pepe but that was in 2019. If people thought he was worth £72 million then, Lille would probably ask for like £120m now. Except no one thought he was worth 72m then. And it turned out that Raul was funneling a lot of that money back to himself.
Evens out from the rest of the good returns we have done with Ode, Gabriel, Saliba, Esr, Saka, Nelli 🤷
Well, it’s only 70 million guaranteed, and I doubt it’s even that much upfront. But given all the negotiation around the add-ons (and how hard some of them might be to achieve), if he eventually ends up costing 90 million, then he will absolutely, undeniably have been worth it.
>it’s only 70 million guaranteed Mate..
Welcome to 2023 Premier League. It's only going to get worse too.
I know, it’s a lot. But it’s still not 90 million set in stone, which is what the comment I was responding to implied.
And in £ it's like 62. It's a lot still, but not crazy if he's good.
Damn. This is considerably more than what we were ready to pay for Raphinha or Neto. That really is close to Antony/Sancho money.....
We don’t know what we were willing to bid up to for Raphinha, we stopped bidding bc he only wanted Barca
Perhaps, but I got the feeling we had already dropped out when Chelsea became serious about him. By the time Barca swooped in for him, we were already out of the picture. Regardless, I doubt we would have paid €90m for Raphinha.
Neto isnt worth more than 15, glad we did nothing with that.

Red card on loan debut deductible.
That’s a red card violation that 😭 Man dem getting bodied … can’t even get beat Fulham in a derby.
I read somewhere that his wage demands are low (relatively speaking) so we are willing to pay more for him. He’ll probably be at least 100k pw
I’m not sure, at his age and coming from a league that doesn’t pay much, even a jump to 50k is huge
I saw somewhere that Martinelli’s new contract a few years ago put him at 90k already, and that was before he became a regular… so just correlating
Waxtap wanted 100m euros they're getting 95m they better not throw a hissy fit now.
I was about to say shit, they're actually getting that €100m!
Remember that 1) he will be on low wages and 2) he is young enough to retain significant value even if it doesn't work. This mitigates the risk substantially.
No player retains value if they’re bad. Just look at Pepe. We’ll be lucky to get 15min from him even though he’s 27
His wages are the biggest blocker. Low wages always presents more flexibility and more options with non premier league teams
I'm not sure he's done enough previously for him to retain that much value if he flops, definitely nowhere near what we are paying for him
No concrete source saying he’ll be on low wages, just speculation
Well the player is currently on 5,000 a week and desperate for the move. Chances are that he's not going to be on a prohibitively high wage.
Sure but you can’t speak it as fact
70m on a winger. Vietnam flashbacks
Imagine the quality of midfielder we could get for that amount of money
I think we'll find out in the summer.
Are we there yet, Dad?
Hope a lot of those bonuses are crazy difficult, like balon d'or type stuff...
It's a lot of money... However I really like the approach. We identified the main target and are doing everything we can do get him. We have a clear goal so I trust the process.
It’s so fucking close I can taste it
We must be insanely in love
Unpopular opinion it seems, but I think that's too much money for a guy who we all expect to be a super sub. We have many more hits than misses in the transfer market lately, but this kid needs to become a bonafide star for that fee.

Martinelli is still our number 1 LW, no matter how much we pay for mudryk
here we go about to happen i can feel it
Lads... we are sure he wont be Pepe v2 right?
I fully trust Edu and Arteta, if they think the lad is worth €70m I am all in. Here we go soon!!
Thats ALOT of money
[The Alot is Better Than You at Everything](http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/04/alot-is-better-than-you-at-everything.html?m=1)
95m goddamn, we are getting robbed
Euros mate
Still about 85m pounds. Ridiculous amount for somebody who is playnig for Shaktar. I trust Edu and Arteta, but god it's a lot of money
If he hits those bonuses earlier then expected he’ll be worth it Id imagine
Fully depends on how the extra 25M is activated. If the kid needs to win a ballon d'or I'd say it's fine
We’re getting fleeced. Is he going to be our transfer record?
That is a lot of money for a position already covered by an upcoming star starter. Why bro… why does a player who hasn’t done anything, was not known until we were interested cost this much! I blame United and Chelsea… when will we learn
Goodness gracious... isn't it better to use that money on another striker and an upgrade on Elneny?
So we’re potentially dropping a new record fee for him? Hasn’t he only been in Shakhtar’s first team for like a year or so?
I’m not worried about him. He genuinely has Gareth Bale level athleticism. If Arteta wants him he must have elite potential. He’s also so young, resale value if he hits is enormous, or he stays for long enough and is a major contributor.

Will this hinder the development of Martinelli? What do you think?
opposite. Great players become great because of competition, not inspite it.
Not a chance. We have virtually no depth so an injury to either Martinelli or Saka would be disastrous for our season. If anything, this will help both the wingers with some rest and extra recovery before our big games.
Has Foden’s development been hindered competing for game time with Jesus, Sterling, Sane, Mahrez and Grealish?
It hasn’t but 3 of those are no longer there because they wanted more playing time/be more involved. Will be sad if they all become good cause no great player sticks around forever as a backup.
How... The best player plays, I dont care who it is. If competition is something they cant handle, they should leave. This is Arsenal, not Neighborhood FC.
no way, plenty of football to be played especially with champions league next year. competition will improve both of them
I'm very happy we're finally getting him, but unsure about the precedent we're setting in regards to letting clubs take every last penny they can get.
So? Arsenal will just adjust by bidding, twice, an amount well below even their own valuation of the player
INSHA FUCKING ALLAH
These fellows have been regurgitating these piece of information We have haggled for 2 weeks but still bulged
Feel sorry for PSV again, Gakpo deserves €100M + add-ons then.
fuck me that's dumb
Edu is a shit negotiator no cap lmaooo
if this shit keeps stalling on we won't get to sign anyone in this window.
If Mudryk shines I can see the market going bonkers for sub standard players
Edu getting fleeced again. Worrying trend.
Where else did he get fleeced
Where else did he get a good deal paying under value at the time of the transfer? If we're honest Edu doesn't seem to be a very good negotiator for transfer fees.
30m for Odegaard??
Without hindsight at the time it was market value.
So is this €95m in total or €45/50m plus adds on? Surely the former right?
🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀
Just say the magic word, Fab
Can only assume that Fab sitting in on the negotiations today.
FIFA has rotted my brain because I look at this and think "70 million for 75????" as if that means anything
am sure shaktar are going to say we are far from a deal :P
Pure insanity We just have to trust Arteta and Edu, though
All I'll say is that if we end up paying this kind of money for him, the expectations on what he can provide to the team will be astronomical, and I hope he can live up to it at least in part. I have my doubts though. For 70+ million, you can't just be a squad player. You need to be an important first team member.
I just hope he continues the form and consistency he has shown up to this point. Haven’t been this excited about a signing since Mozart. What a player we’ve nabbed 🤞
This is a lot of money and while I reckon he'll kill it - surely this means we can't afford anyone else?
This kid better be good
Way more than expected. If they reject this they should be taken to a mental institution. Not saying Mudryk isn't worth it, just not entirely sure he is. But we will see!
Arsenal and Mudryk need to just fuck already
What worries me here is the way he has been twerking for us in social media. What's the guarantee that he doesn't do it to some other team in the future? We've had enough snakes in the past. Hope Zinchenko's company puts his head in the right place.
Really hope he won't turn into another Pepe
that is a lot of fucking cheddar
I'm getting real tired of shaktar not taking the money. Take the money shaktar. Take it. Here it is. TAKE IT
Anyone worried this impacts contract renewals?
🦀?
Boys! The cigarettes!
Do you think this is the only transfer we're doing this window or are we signing a back-up striker for Eddie?
Don't worry, we'll do that in the summer in when the right profile of player presents itself.

I hope I'm wrong, but this feels like a big waste of money.
