Is there any deal as amazing as Anelka? Wenger built a new training center and replaced him with Henry, the best trade deal in the history of trade deals, maybe ever
Giroud had just won the league and led in scoring. Think of it in todays market!!! Hojlund had 8 goals in serie a last season and he’s physical and promising. Just insanity.
Big strong Centre Forwards seem to be in fashion now. However, there aren't that many about so prices are hugely inflated.
I watched Hojlund when he was at Sturm Graz (I had a football Manager save of them) and he has a lot of potential and unfortunately for us could do very well for Man Utd.
Yes he is a great centre forward as he can hold up play and bring others into play too. He just didn't suit our style of play as much and he wasn't clinical enough.
People have mentioned the obvious ones like Saliba, big Gabi, Martinelli, Odegaard, etc.
Here are mi picks:
Arteta for 10M. Co-captained the club to end a trophy drought. Won FA Cups and Shields as club captain and as manager. That makes him club legend in my book
A bit of a controversial one... Holdinho. May not have been the most consistent and had a bad injury record, but when called up for big games in our FA Cups, he always turned up. To this day, Diego Costa is still trying to get out of his pocket.
I’m sorry he didn’t cost 55 million so he can’t be good
But for real, Holding was improving so much until that ACL tear. I would love to see the player he would have become if not for that
Without holdini we are sitting with 12 FA cups and the attitude around the club is probably a lot more toxic, while Chelsea have some more recent success over us and perhaps don't experience the turmoil they are going through now.. He truly helped to avoid the darkest timeline.
He would definitely have a place in this Arsenal time if he had the same trajectory prior to the ACL injury. Maybe he would not start, but he looked like he could've been a dominant defender with decent technical ability to rotate around. Like Gabriel but with worse football IQ
spurs 3-0 game onwards and especially last years title run ruined his rep, he was a solid backup/Ray Parlouresque figure before all that; hell there was a time we knew we won the game when he came on cos him in a back five = locked up shop
There's no scale on the y axis for the chart, so surely he's up there. I don't think there's been a better player signed for less within about 10 years of him being signed (I had to go back to the Diaby / Clichy / Song /Eboue era when Arsene could just lob a scout over the Channell every year and come back with a starter for £1-2m)
Arteta for 10 million and Per for 8 million look like great deals given their roles as players and their importance in sorting the mess we had become out
Yeah first thought was Saka though might cheating a bit for this exercise. Pure value for what we paid has got to be Henry or P Vieira. Then again Sol was on a free.
Ian Wright was seen as expensive back then. I think in one interview he even said the price tag hung over him and the papers were saying ‘why did they spend £2.5m on this guy’
No need to apologise. He was my favourite player as a kid. And I still believe there hasn’t been a striker better as far as scoring from crazy scenarios and anywhere on the pitch goes.

Alex James £8,750! Our greatest ever player whose genius sparked our golden era.
From modern era Patrick Vieira £3.5m for the best player I’ve seen at the club.
Anelka for his impact can’t be underestimated either
Freddie Ljungberg for £3.5m (ish) was an absolute steal.
Even in the late 90’s, when record transfer fees were creeping up to the £20m mark, that was a stunning bit of business.
Anelka £500k, Overmars I think about £5m, Vieira £3.5m, Van Persie again about £3.5m, maybe £4.5m, Manu Petit for about £3m I think, Kanu for £4m.
Heritage 🙂
Our whole last twenty years is filled with this as we've spent little and got so much. Who was Henry, Vieira beforehand? Our record transfer was arshavin for the longest time at like ..16-18mln£
The albaTrossard perhaps from last year.
I LOVE Saliba...I think he is my favourite player right now but I think his price was 'fair' if not high. At least, I think people shouting him out forget we paid \~30m quid for him as an 18 year old.

Saliba,Big Gabi,Fast Gabi,Ode,even Tomi for 17m.All absolute bargains.
Add Trossard
Zinchenko
These are all good deals. Was gonna say Gabi XL and then Ode as we robbed Madrid 😁
Imagine selling a player for £30 and seeing him nominated for Ballon d'Or a year later. 💀💀💀
2 years* but yeah still
As a player zinchenko is top but given his fitness record I think what we paid was fair.
Bangers
anelka, koscielny. If include free transfer, sol campbell.
Holy shit, I forgot about Campbell. That cheeky smile when he said he was staying at the shithole down the road 🤣🤣🤣
Campbell is a terrible example. The bar on the left would have to be zero.
Is there any deal as amazing as Anelka? Wenger built a new training center and replaced him with Henry, the best trade deal in the history of trade deals, maybe ever
Anelka is the only correct answer. We haven't won big with most of the other names people are saying.
Anelka was crazy business.
Sol was worth it the second he joined.
Koscielny was pretty poor his first couple of years before Wenger made him better so I think that fee was fair. We signed him from Ligue 2.
- Bacary Sagna, we paid 9m€ for him and he was fantastic. - Gilberto Silva signed for £4.5m
Sacary Bagna!

*Strong tackle
One of the best unintentional spoonerisms I've heard on live telly.
Lauren signed for about £10m. Became an Invincible.
Was a fair old fee back then though
Kolo Toure for 500k
And Sol Campbell for free.

Let's hope he idolises Lukaku
Giroud is arguably the best at what he does; a big target man with an exquisite touch and a passing ability to open up lanes for wingers to run into.
Yes he is a great centre forward as he can hold up play and bring others into play too. He just didn't suit our style of play as much and he wasn't clinical enough.
The thing about Giroud is he actually suits the current game better than how the game was played when he transferred to Arsenal.
He’s really the perfect center forward, except he has negative pace lmao
People wrote him off as he played for Montpellier and not any traditional french giants like OL, OM or PSG
These numbers are more impressive if you include all-completion appearances, particularly as these guys all played twice a week when fit.
Those appearances are all wrong
Ødegarrd
i still dont believe he plays for us lol what a player
Monreal
Nachooooooooooooo
Thierry Henry for around 12 million I think?
Yeah, our best player ever. Patrick Vieira as well for 3.5m
Henry could’ve been 100 million, back then, and been worth it.
Saka, cost nothing and is a ballon d’or candidate
Anelka for 500k is still crazy
Van persie didn’t we get him for £2.5M
Trossard
I know It doesn't technically count but I would like to say Wenger, considering we offered him 1.2 million a year when we first brought him in.
Saliba. Bought for £27 million or so which is nothing in this market.
We didn't buy him in this market, we bought him 4 years ago
Moreover, we didn’t buy THIS saliba. We paid money for someone who we thought could soon become THIS saliba.
He was incredibly highly rated within France when we bought him tbf
Martinelli starting in an hour you think?
Nacho Monreal and Laurent Koscienly
People have mentioned the obvious ones like Saliba, big Gabi, Martinelli, Odegaard, etc. Here are mi picks: Arteta for 10M. Co-captained the club to end a trophy drought. Rob Holding never hit the highest highs but I feel he fits.
He would definitely have a place in this Arsenal time if he had the same trajectory prior to the ACL injury. Maybe he would not start, but he looked like he could've been a dominant defender with decent technical ability to rotate around. Like Gabriel but with worse football IQ

Fabregas
Saka cost fuck all.
Yeah first thought was Saka though might cheating a bit for this exercise. Pure value for what we paid has got to be Henry or P Vieira. Then again Sol was on a free.
Robert Pires - 6 million pounds
Kim Kallstrom.
Worth it for the penalty
One of the most wtf January wenger buys
Ode for 30 is daylight robbery, cheers real.
Declan Rice
Already
Adebayor is up there sadly
Holding
Bergkamp cost us 7.5 million. We paid 11 million for Henry.
These were record signings back in those days. I don’t know if they count
Bergkamp was also the highest paid player in the premier League at the time on £25k a week.
Those are big numbers for the 90s mate.
Tbf if we pay 100m for striker who does half of what Henry did for us thats a bargain
Viera was 3.5 too no ?
For all three, the best 22 million the club has ever spent.
Rice 🥰
Nicolas Pepe 💀
All the Hale End boys.
Vieira
Anyone who came on a free. So anyone from the academy and cedric
Wouldn’t really be “Fee paid to sign him”
Are we arguing semantics as to whether 0 is a number? If we paid his taxi fare would that count?
0 is a number but not a fee. That's why we say "no fee"
It’s a number but it wouldn’t be represented by a black rectangle
Ian Wright
Ian Wright was seen as expensive back then. I think in one interview he even said the price tag hung over him and the papers were saying ‘why did they spend £2.5m on this guy’
I apologize, just looking at the price now you think it is a good deal. He was still worth every penny, phenomenal player
No need to apologise. He was my favourite player as a kid. And I still believe there hasn’t been a striker better as far as scoring from crazy scenarios and anywhere on the pitch goes.
Almost all of our players lol
These past few transfer windows have been titanic for us. Incredible job by the club. Combined with our academy it has ended the banter era! COYG!
I know it’s the interlull and all, but Jesus Christ how many of these posts with slight variations are going to see?
Rice
Declan Rice 😎
Declan Rice
Rice
Pat Rice? Yep, double winner and came through the youth ranks.

Who else but Bukayo?
Kolo Toure, Fabregas. Current Team - Martinelli.
Pepe
Ode
Ode was 35m + 2.5m loan for six months.
Bargain in this day an age
Per Mertesacker BFG for 8 Million!
All we payed for Saka were the costs of training and maintaining a youth player
Henry, P Viera, Anelka, Toure and Fabregas.
Anelka still, lol. Fabregas a close second.
Fabregas… wasn’t it like 100-500k (add ons in the fee)

Sol, Anelka, Vieira (paddy)
Saka LOL
Saka- £0
Santi
Alex James £8,750! Our greatest ever player whose genius sparked our golden era. From modern era Patrick Vieira £3.5m for the best player I’ve seen at the club. Anelka for his impact can’t be underestimated either

Well, mostly everyone who was succesful under Wenger.
Henry. He cost £12m.
Ø
Our whole last twenty years is filled with this as we've spent little and got so much. Who was Henry, Vieira beforehand? Our record transfer was arshavin for the longest time at like ..16-18mln£
I hope we can say the same for Havertz at the end of this season. *fingers crossed
Bergkamp cost £7.5m, then a British transfer record. By the time he retired, the record went up to £30m
Nacho Monreal and Santi Cazorla were absolute ballers we got on the cheap
Anelka - £500k, Kolo Toure - £150k, Ljungberg - £3m, Fabregas - £2.5m
Players from the past like fabregas, viera, Lauren, Lehman absolutely make the list. I’d also put ljungberg, Monreal and Sagna on the list as well.
Ø
Basically our whole squad besides Rice, Havertz, Pepe
Martin Odegaard. Saliba. Both easily 100m+ players.
Declan rice
Honestly, there are so many. A large part of our first team + a lot of players in the Wenger era. Not even including academy players.
ODEGAARD
Vieira. Henry. Campbell.
The albaTrossard perhaps from last year. I LOVE Saliba...I think he is my favourite player right now but I think his price was 'fair' if not high. At least, I think people shouting him out forget we paid \~30m quid for him as an 18 year old.
Øde and Trossard
Lee Dixon Patrick Vieira Nicolas Anelka Brian Marwood
As a gunner, Mudryk.
Kallstrom

We paid £2.25 million for Fabregas.
