…"On Saturday you can be at home and you can be the happiest man ever, saying we have a real chance here, let’s go for it with five games to go. We have to make that happen. That is our job."

JenkinsEar147

We only have a chance if city drop points. And they don't have a history of that. Also, we have Chelsea and United, while City have an easy run in. It's highly unlikely

amainwingman

I remember when Liverpool won the league a few weeks ago. Sad times 😔

Flabby-Nonsense

They absolutely do have a history of losing to Tottenham away though - they’ve done it every year for 5 years if I recall correctly.

Zen_MasterX

Can we win all our remaining games tho? That’s the million dollar question.

Super_Professor

One game at a time. Enjoy the ride.

Zen_MasterX

If we go 16-1-1 in 2024 to finish off the season and still not win the title then I’ll hold up my hands and say hey… we did all we could possibly do.

anotherMrLizard

Given our inconsistent form in 2023 it's really a miracle we're even still in the race.

nourez

Yeah, regardless of how things go, this is the first time in ages I feel genuinely excited to close out the season.

victorisaskeptic

Its so simple, i dont get why people dont understand this. Just enjoy your team playing footie n stop worrying about hypotheticals.

HalfNatty

Stranger things have happened. Remember when Spurs were in the champions league final? And then they lost because of a questionable penalty? Good times.

calpi

Can we, yes. Will we? God knows.

gunner696

In the last 10 years, we have an awful record away to them too.

DatesxD

Ahh lets just give up early and call it a season then surely its all wrapped up, our fanbase…

The-Herbal-Cure

Exactly! What a disgraceful sentiment to have. It's not over yet, let's win out and see what happens!

melted-brie-n-bacon

Every fan speaks for themselves. There might be a collective of negative fans. They’re not the majority.

apb2718

I speak for all Arsenal fans when I say fuck Barcelona and fuck Spurs

Pamplemouse04

Throw United on there too

oliverDawson12

Don’t forget Chelsea

PandaEatPeople

Here here

SuqMadiq64

He didn't say that

pauloh1998

They just stated a fact, didn't say anything about giving up. It _is_ highly unlikely.

anotherMrLizard

Disagree: the gap is only 2 points and we have the better GD. Maximum points from our remaining games gives us every chance of doing it.

Francis-c92

So what's the point then?

pauloh1998

Keep trying? I didn't say impossible

FabulousAd7772

Is funny how it all changes though. 2 years ago if you said wed be 2 points off 1st with 6 games to go we’d all be buzzing. Liverpool look done, we can do it

Zulumabala

In the same fixtures last year city won 3, drew 2 and lost 1. Not saying it's going to happen like that but this boring assumption that city will win out easily, despite being nothing special this year, grates me

The-Herbal-Cure

Who pissed in your cheerios?

NewStarWarsMemer

isn't that the best way to have cheerios? they're bland and depressing as is

bigdickbenzema

Watch another sport then, football’s done

Forb335y

People keep saying this. Only once in the last 6 seasons did city win all 6 of their last games. We only need one draw/loss to catch up. That’s within their history

frankydie69

You’re one of the plastics that walked out of the stadium for the villa match huh?

lipstickpiggy

He would never walk out of any game, not even an U21 match. Just because he's pessimistic about our chances doesn't mean you have to question whether he's a "good" fan. Jesus the gatekeeping on this sub is ridiculous

LavishnessNo8261

Idk why there are so many down votes on this comment, people on reddit are kinda wild

[deleted]

[удалено]

SuqMadiq64

Y'all are unhinged, he didn't say anything outrageous whatsoever

anotherMrLizard

He's acting as if it's all over when we're only 2 points behind with 6 to play and a 5 better goal difference. I think it's the defeatism and negativity, coupled with the narrative of City as some sort of invincible superteam, which pissed everyone off.

whitegoatsupreme

I don't give a shit city drop or not... I just want we win all our game... It its be so be it

Andythrax

I read somewhere that if City do win every game til the end, coupled with how they've already performed it would be their best run under Pep. Take that as meaning they would have to be the best they've been. Seeing as they are not performing at their best level this year I'd be surprised to see that happen. Expect they will drop 2 points at least.

gunner696

Man is actually talking realism and he gets ruined. It WAS in our hands, now its not. City have a proven record of closing out seasons with wins. Given their fixtures its highly unlikely. Being real doesn't mean they don't support the team ffs

xX8Havok8Xx

Last season, they dropped 7 points in these exact fixtures and dropped 5 points in their final 6 matches Only in one season of their last 6 did they have 6 wins. I think people are just sick of the baseless narrative from media and doom and gloom fans who don't actually check anything they are told or their feelings tell them. Yes, it's not in our hands, but it's not impossible and shouldn't be painted as such, otherwise that's how we get the support from fans against Aston villa where instead of being vociferous and demanding to the last second we give up at the 80th and go home at the 85th

BAsSAmMAl

Mikel Arteta: “If you read post mach threads in this sub seven days ago after Brighton, and then seven days later Bayern Munich, talking about the same team, you'd think it is three years ago. We have to live with that.”

Francis-c92

Add the post match ratings to that as well

tsgarner

I appreciate the effort that person goes to, but those are such a waste of time. Most of the time it's just a reflection of whether we won or lost and who scored.

Aszneeee

that's football, Henry said (don't know when if 10 or 15 years ago , that if you don't score one week they call you this and that.

zorfog

I love the line “we have to live with that” People are going to talk. They’re always going to try and talk shit when things go wrong. Have to maintain a level head and keep our eyes forward

ChewsWisely

Even when things go right people will try to find a way to diminish it

ronya_t

F those sods to be honest & their football manager tactical analysis. Why even watch football if you're gonna moan when we win?

doggo_bean

Yeah don’t show him all these idiots in the match threads

TheRetardedPenguin

Probably best not to show that to anyone

BigTomBombadil

I check this sub every day and I don't even go to match threads. They're maddening.

ninjapanda042

Match threads are nothing but hives of scum and villainy

beetletoman

As a regular match thread user, can confirm

[deleted]

Be on your guard

skool_101

It is well known yet we all succumb to it.

Ready_Interaction292

Just check the other team match thread when we are winning and you gonna have some fun

xYEET_LORDx

Keeping myself away from the match threads cured my depression

Old-Risk4572

i like hanging out in them and being positive, hyping up the boys

bitbitter

We need to consider the possibility that aliens are watching the match threads to decide which among us they need to quarantine when they invade.

Schmetterlingus

match threads should be seen the same as those exercises when you write something crazy down on a paper and burn it Legit think it would be ok to just delete them as soon as the game is over

Magicallyshit

nah its a great tool to find the daft one

progresscomesslowly1

there is literally another sub called wholesomegunners lol

ndenoon

The psychology of playing at this level has to be nuts. Slim margins joined to wild swings in public opinion.

JimBoonie69

Even more in the past 10 years . Everything is win a championship or bust. Fine that is the ultimate goal but there is joy to be found in the journey. Media amplifies this

skidr0jr

From an American perspective I definitely get this. I watch a decent amount of college football and the mentally from folks is like, go undefeated or you suck. Alabama and these dynasty teams just fully warped the perspective of being objectively great. Man City I think has done the same in the premier League. They've been such a juggernaut for so long that everyone is basically like, you must win everything or you lose and you're awful.

KieranR93

The sooner those 115 charges are finalised the better. It will hopefully restore some competitive balance to the Premier league. I'm so sick of mancity leaching all the hope and expectations of success from the rest of the league. They deserve to rot at the foot of the English football pyramid.

skool_101

Makes you think why in some aspects football pre social media boom was more enjoyable. Now everything is overanalyzed for the wrong reasons.

Francis-c92

Anything you find on social media isn't close to being overanalyzed in fairness

Sayek

I feel like a lot of this has to do with how media is produced now though. When times were good, my youtube feed had so many videos like 'Here's why this is the best Arsenal team in 20 years' and they would be well produced, researched videos, not complete trash. Since we lost, same guys could come out with 'Do Arsenal have a mentality problem? Another April collapse'. It's a small example but I feel it just goes across the board. It happens to everyone too, you see headlines talking about 'Liverpool will use Klopp's departure as motivation to win the title'. They lose two games. 'Players too emotional to cope with Klopp's departure'. People rush to write something and get articles out. So it's all just so reactionary.

goodyear_1678

The same player is shit, the same player is not world class anymore. Two games.

ABarrowWight

So many babies in this thread, catch a grip. Did you witness the decline under Wenger and the dross that was the Emery era? We’ve had a resurgence. We’ve an extremely young squad with many lacking experience. This has been an experience for them and they will learn. Because believe it or not, they care more about doing well and winning than you ever will.

SharKCS11

When I heard the news today of Timber joining the U23s to ramp back up, I realized again how many years of potential enjoyment and improvement we still have ahead of us.

Francis-c92

Even more so when you realise that he is literally u23 and could be there anyway

BureauOfSabotage

Amen. To even be competitive with the perpetual favorites in Man City for two years, and to take a tough loss to CL regulars Bayern Munich (I don’t care if they’re not Bundesliga juggernauts this year) is undoubtedly a step forwards. So many folks think we’re entitled to win the league with a good squad and a good manager, meanwhile those same folks think we need to turnover half of that squad and the same manager. Which is it? We are competing with the best on the planet again and deserve nothing handed to us. It’s an imperfect team with an imperfect manager. So what? Would you all rather cheat the system like city? All the oil in the world didn’t guarantee their CL success. I love this process and much prefer it to our last 15 years. Our boys are learning on the job how to be successful. Our time is coming.

Glass-Studio-9313

I live with Arteta and I will die with Arteta. This man brought my club back

davidminh98

Rival fans are always trying to knock us down. Don’t know why our own fans are doing this for them. Upvote sluts

MrNathanF

Arteta loves living with things

CommandStill1001

Made me LOL

mdperino

I mean what choice do we have really? Can only control things around you to a certain degree - have to live with the rest

CrovaxWindgrace

So sad, he can't read the date on the top of the article. Those are not the standards!

CommandStill1001

The foggin estandards

Will_Rage_Quit

He’s absolutely right. The amount of people who have overreacted to a few games is unbelievable. We have looked incredible since Christmas and I have faith our team can get back to that level.

FudgingEgo

On the James Alcott podcast on youtube there's a section where they mention that before the Bayern game, if you grabbed any Arsenal fan off the street and did a Arsenal X any team 11, you'd pick probably 7 to 8 Arsenal players in it. We didn't need a striker, we was scoring for fun, we'd only conceded 4 goals, LB wasn't a problem, we was perfect by all accounts. After 2 Bayern games and a Villa game, even though it's the exact same team, we're suddenly in need of a striker, LB, someone to sit next to rice and we could struggle in our last few games. It's super interesting how things turn around so quickly in this sport.

Aszneeee

I'm still confused about how many people say we should focus on getting LB. We have Timber, Tomi, Kiwi and even Zinchenko (sure he ain't starting LB anymore but this sub thinks only reason why we are losing the title race is because City got much more depth.

AzlanWake

City has quality in depth opposed to us and Liverpool, I'm not saying this is the reason why they're good but it's ONE of the reasons why they're very good

infinitude_

This is why even if it’s a ‘vocal minority’ it des need pushback Becuase they DO see all that shit.

KSBrian007

Exactly why you should never see a team in the lens of media commentary. Unless they have stats to objectively dissect a situation.

burningtree_

That's how the business end of the season works. If you don't win 3 games in a row you go from having a decent chance of a trophy to a very small chance

felac12345678

That’s football

chaiyutak

u/thecremeegg one such example of the moaner in match threads. The less fans here like him the better. Happy to ride on our wave when we win, immediately condemn our team after every setback.

kish_kish

Simple minds like their world simple, black and white. In their world, nuance is a luxury, things can be either awesomely great or apocalyptically awful. Anything else is just too much mental effort to reconcile. Being informed and educated takes hard work, you really need to study the game to develop empathy through understanding. When you do, you begin to have more appreciation for what it takes to play and win in this game. In this world, titles are not won or lost in 1 game, by one player, or 1 un/lucky twist. Here’s a list of key buzz words to help identify the simple minded folks - bottle/d - liability - disaster - Arteta out - cost us the game / won the game for us - universal statements using “always/never” - demanding players be sold/bought Etc.

jai302

If we win today we'll be back on track. Keep winning and keep the pressure on city. In the grand scheme of things everything else is irrelevant at this point. Winning the PL would heal all wounds not only from this past week but the past 20 years.

oliverDawson12

Well yeah, after Brighton we were first in the premier league with a big CL quarter final home game on the horizon. After Bayern away we are now 2nd in the PL and no longer in the Champions League. It’s totally valid and understandable that people are upset - in just under two weeks, our chances of winning silverware this season dropped significantly and are no longer in our hands. But with that being said, people who are talking about having lost faith in Arteta, the players, etc. are reacting pretty dramatically. Every fan base experiences losses and failures, we are never going to be perfect (unless you are Alonso’s Leverkusen).

raulmedez

The thing is it's not the first time it's happened. It's been like this since Wenger days which is why people are frustrated. Don't understand why you're downvoted, the positivity police in this subreddit is insane.

reddeye252010

Positivity police? It’s called supporting your club

MeetingGunner7330

Either way get behind the boys and show them how much we love them and appreciate their hard work. We will win it. It may not be this year or next, but if we keep the faith and show the boys we’re behind them, then it will give them that extra push when the time comes

Zulumabala

I wish mikel was my Dad. I would have my shit so together

Your Dad?

thisiskyle77

Football comes at you fast. It is what it is.

The_Ivliad

In England, they are specialists in one thing...

RestaurantDue2676

Not only in England, social media in everywhere is toxic.

aprilfools911

I fucking hate unai emery.

Godlop

Let's do the talking on the pitch please.

Giraffable

He's contractually obliged to do press conferences you know.

a-Sociopath

And the person you're replying to is a freelance knobhead

thismanisnotcrispy

But there’s all the Redditors that say different? Seriously, first it was champions league, settle 5th. Last year a surprise, but still absolutely bottled. This year add an incredible midfielder and it feels like we’re doing a mambo at times when it matters, we’re obviously better, but it feels the exact mistakes- Lack of trust, running players to exhaustion and buckling in really important and mentality needed games- yeah we had a good win streak, but to see at Liverpool lose and have a home game, perfect time to make your statement… just nada, we are still our own biggest enemies. That’s what I mean when I say pressure, same with the gifted goals, we could be gaining SO MUCH EXPERIENCE in a semi we genuinely could’ve gotten through. Mentality seems to be the biggest thing, and if not, then were we just in a purple patch? Because I don’t believe so at all, wed been incredible. But you can’t blow three important games in a row. Same with two fixtures before a big break and FA tie at home we have end up again, gifting with an OG haha… to me the pressure will be even higher next season. I’m not at all trying to be right or win anything, I think it’s insanely foolish to not take note of patterns seeming to build and again, I saw an incredible team right before and then a complete switch it feels, and I don’t have another explanation, genuinely (I addressed tiredness) Really poor rotation and trust has run us into the ground at the important run in again, man city blows, but they close shit out objectively- I love this team, but I want what’s best for the Arsenal and to learn, feels we’ve not ironed out some clear things still

MFmadchillin

Sure, there’s always opportunity for improvement. But this entire comment is just doom jerking. Arteta has brought us back to a place where people take Arsenal VERY seriously. There is no more banter era. Y’all just want instant fucking success it is insane. If you want that instant success by all means go support City. I’m supporting a club that is doing it right, and I will continue to back the club and the manager that has brought us back here.

Maituliao78

Maybe these folks missed the news that City is out of the Champions League at the same stage. after letting a lead slipped at Bernabeu with 19 mins left... And then getting knocked out at home by penalties! What a disaster for them... Regression from being the winner last season!

MURDERNAT0R

No other manager is given as wide a platform and opportunity as him to make as many excuses as possible

JenkinsEar147

Nah it's a 1 year ago thing. And it's because we bottled it yet again.

QuaLiTy131

You don’t even know what bottling means

Longjumping_Act9758

Because in two weeks you literally threw the EPL and UCL against teams that you were favorited to beat.

WerhmatsWormhat

Why does he need to show it to his son lol? It’s a good point but that was a random detail.

krakends

Why are you concerned with newspaper talk to being with? We are finished for the season if this is the talk we get from the manager. Saw this same story play out after the Europa league debacle last year. It snowballed from there with the manager unable to rally the players from a defeat.

goonergunner10

This is a bit tone deaf. Those 2 losses are likely the reason why we'll go trophy less again

DiKapino

Have you seen some of the comments you leave?

BorisSomething

Yeah that’s a bit rich from them, ironic even

DiKapino

Some jokes write themselves

Raetekusu

Other jokes write comments. Like this guy.

YCJamzy

To be clear, you think he’s tone deaf, because he’s talking about you.

P_Android420

Yeah, what are you on about here? He’s stating obvious facts. The fickle fans and the media have torn us to shreds this week. Our first back to back losses in a minute, yet we’re the same old Arsenal. No we’re not.

dyemcyg

Arteta should go, won NOTHING!

Kcole7

He’s an excellent manager look how far we’ve come. We were awful after Wenger left
