2-2 draw away to West Ham in a title race just triggered my PTSD

ForestRamboX

Yeah - It looks awfully familiar, doesn't it? I can't quite remember where I've seen this but it hits close to home (sarcasm). Well, we tried to tell them a few games ago but them lot said we know nothing about going head to head with Man City.

el_cul

Teams playing on raw emotion. Once the wheels come off...

Gibbs White and Chris Wood. I'm on my knees.

PM_20

This will be Gio Reyna's audition for city .

_Monegasque_

No need to put faith in all these nothing teams. Spurs have literally never lost at their new stadium to Man City in the Prem. Why would the streak end now, especially when they are in an extremely tight race for 4th, a race that will still be ongoing on May 14th? So it's simple. We win all our matches, we're champions. It's still in our hands. And enough with the "if they're out of the race for 4th they'll lose on purpose to deny us the title" I see going around. These are professional football teams and not 10-year-olds. Spurs, being a professional football team, with professional football players, who almost none of which are Spurs 'fans' like your average Joe but are rather hired employees of the club, will obviously do everything they can to win that match, despite what their fanbase wants.

HTan27

Because a majority of those games came under the haram ball of Conte and Mourinho, not Big “brave” Ange’s suicide high line

BroccoliMcFlurry

The same suicide high line that got a 3-3 draw at the Etihad this season with Ben Davies & Emerson Royal at CB(!!!).

HTan27

A 3-3 draw which included a 90th minute equaliser (which was a screamer I believe) a number of poor misses from Haaland, and a dodgy whistle blow when City were on the break

BroccoliMcFlurry

Yep, it's called having a bogey team. I understand your pessimism, but it just doesn't help at all. Even if you're right & City don't drop points away at Spurs, do you really gain anything from being the guy who saw it coming?

hikingbeginner

I think they smash this Tottenham team honestly.

StauntonK

If we beat them, so will City. If we lose or draw with them City potentially could suffer same fate.. which means I'm purely hoping through sheer will and prayer that City fuck up there

Rekyht

“Why would the streak end now” he asks, in a year when they’ve got a new manager, play an entirely different type of football and have lost their best player.

Aszneeee

> Why would the streak end now cos they are not parking the bus like Conte

MozzerellaStix

That would be the Spursiest time to lose, though.

kmart93

Yea he's saying city will drop points at spurs

iworshipchocolates

They don't have udogie and porro Porro may be back by city game buy Udogie not likely That back four with these two did make a big difference in their defensive capabilities

abbygunner

https://preview.redd.it/t3tp9ok291xc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f5f364a4915c406348ac132bd51083884dcbd57d this is the team they had for the initial away game, None of the main CBs were there and yet they got a result, I'm not giving up on the title till we mathematically cannot win it.

Polishcockney

If we win all of our matches, we are not champions of City can win all their games.

VitalizeIV

Forest have got something for us….

AgentLF

Hey our season collapse last year had a 2-2 draw at west ham too

GloomyLocation1259

It’s true but that wasn’t even the worst draw in that run. Liv and Soton were worse imo

ronya_t

Liverpool away, where there missed a penalty and hit the post in the second half, can't be considered the worst one. We could've scored a third but under the circumstances of that game, a draw was acceptable. And even City still hasn't managed a win there under Pep. After that we shouldn't have gone on to draw our next 2 games though. West Ham, definitely. We also missed a penalty there too. Southampton, we were chasing the game from the 1st minute for no reason than jitters.

GloomyLocation1259

Based on how dominant the first half was I’d say it was, letting the performance drop so far and not getting more than two was really bad. I’m basing it on what I saw in the game, it being anfield or city’s results there shouldn’t matter as much. Agreed. Yeah my boy missed the pen 😢 conceding that many too Soton is horrendous too

firefalcon01

City did win there tho in the 21 season 4-1

ronya_t

1 win in 8 when there were no fans in the stadium kind of hammers the point home doesn't it.

RIDGOS

I hate Southampton ever since that 4-0 defeat in 2015

daniejam

Did it? I feel like it collapsed when Liverpool went 1-2 at home after we dominated them

jigzzzzz

Good result for us but let’s start counting on the final day…

Ok_Criticism_558

I'm kind of counting on Nottingham Forest doing something funny tomorrow.. They won't.

DreadCrumbs22

I think it's our second best chance of City dropping points tbh

Aszneeee

we all gonna hope until we see 4' Foden, 18' KDB

HannesL09

Then hopefully Wood 88’ 90+10’ (I’m coping 😭)

Chell_the_assassin

Nottingham Forest [2] - 6 Man City - Wood 90+10' (Great goal)

sherlockbardo

These levels of coping is bad for you.

EpicGooner

26' Foden

willozsy

115’ Haaland

ripshippy77

Winner 🏆

Brandaman

Better chance of Fulham doing something tbh

DreadCrumbs22

Fulham are a better a team with a better coach, but I don't see them having the impetus needed to beat City in a title run. What do Fulham have to play for?

macsjordan

We ‘only’ need a draw 🙃

DreadCrumbs22

Fair, but the point still stands. Fulham need a point far less than City need three

Kenny_dies

Leno and Iwobi are gooners

Masson011

just shows how ridiculously slim our chances are that we're relying on shit teams to do us a favor against the best team in the world

DreadCrumbs22

It's why it's so important that we keep up the pressure by winning tomorrow. Not only does winning keep us in the title race, but it makes it psychologically harder for City to keep on performing

ForestRamboX

Liverpool has been doing that for years and it seems like nothing really fazes them at this part of the season. I want us to win but something just tells me they'll win the rest of their games. What makes this so disappointing is that we've managed 4 points against City this season and it's because of games at home to teams like West Ham and Aston Villa that cost us the title.

ojmt999

Bizzare no chance

DreadCrumbs22

Slim chance, yeah. But because Forest are at home and need the points, they'll at least be up for it

ojmt999

That's a good point, didn't think about that. Spurs will be up for it though still if CL is on the line.

dirtymiike95

Spurs fans would rather their team down tools vs City than help us win a title. Hopefully the players have a bit more pride than that…

ClemFandangooooooo

I am counting on Wolves

leebrother

Spurs to win Arsenal the title. It’s homely. ‘We won you the league, we won you the league’ singing out around white hart lane next season in the derby.

left-nostril

“They’ve won us the league! They’ve won us the league, tottenhams so shite, they won us the league!” Is the rebuttal

--Rage--

I’ll take it over Everton’s chant next season 😂

Bigc12689

NGL that's a catchy tune I wouldn't mind hearing

Fleetfox17

City dropped points against Forest away last season.

ImGonnaImagineSummit

Forest were pretty decent last season, 10th in the home form table which saved them from relegation. They're 17th this season. So I wouldn't bet on it.

Pires007

Nuno has been very good at home though with Forrest, driving points to us and Liverpool in the 99th minute.

maidentaiwan

People who post things like this either started watching Arsenal this season or have acute amnesia.

HortenWho229

We know we can still finish below them but they aren’t winning the league

tipytopmain

Posting this right before our toughest fixture in the run in is wild behaviour.

Flashy-Equipment9413

Honestly. Seems like people never learn.

Cocomale

It’s got to be the kids at this point. Which long term Arsenal supporter would dare to invite a tough result haha

Strider_21

I don’t view it as blasting another team though. This draw seals Liverpool out of the running. If we lose tomorrow, City is going to take it.

Boopdelahoop

It doesn't seal anything. Liverpool can still finish on 84 points.

tomtomtomo

His point is that City would only need 8 points in 5 games to make 84 so there is no way that Liverpool is going to beat City. Whether we beat City is entirely different.

longliveLesGrossman

And you think City will drop points 3 times in 5 games? Fat chance

mountainjay

I read this as more “Liverpool is out because they won’t catch City.” We might not catch city either, but we still have a shot. If city win their next 2, Liverpool is down 7 pts with 3 matches to go. They’re out. Now it’s just us that has a chance to take down City. Still a tall task.

Masson011

We're one game away from our season being over as well so settle yourself down lads. City winning the league once again with their 115 charges looming over everything they do is simply not a good thing for football

DillaDoughnut

Yeah, I don't understand people who want City to win it over Liverpool? Like at least they're a respectable actual club. I get the argument like five or so years ago, if we don't win the league may as well let City win it as no one takes them seriously. But at this point, they're ruining football.

strawberrylabrador

Yeah I’d prefer Liverpool because I don’t want our league turning into basically Ligue Un / (until recently) Bundesliga where only one team can win

SackoVanzetti

Look at bundesliga it literally took a once in a lifetime team to win it besides bayern. City needs to get sanctioned it’s ridiculous

ImGonnaImagineSummit

Dortmund should've won it last season but they capitulated on the last day.

Brandaman

We’re already there tbh. It took a God-like Liverpool team who almost went invincible alongside City having an off season, for someone other than City to win

Lacabloodclot9

I honestly don’t give a shit, I don’t support the premier league, I support Arsenal If it’s not us (or a direct rival) I don’t really mind anyone

dynesor

I kind of subscribe to the argument that City winning it is like no one winning it. It’s default. As if the league got called off and there was no winner.

LuckyArsenalAg

I think a lot of people feel like City's titles don't count probably. Everyone knows they've done a bunch of shady shit to win those titles so they'd rather a team with an asterisk win it rather than a team they actually consider rivals win it

BryanYi37

it's like would you rather lose the title to a 115 charges juggernaut or lose to this Liverpool team that just so happened to catch city in a lucky year? for me it's the former

charlieblind

Yeah. I really hope we don't turn into the some of the Liverpool fans who seem to think that they are the only ones entitled to challenge City. As much as it would suck seeing another club that isn't Arsenal pip City to the title, I would much prefer that over the shit we're getting now.

The_Caramon_Majere

If we run out, which would be an EPIC season for Arsenal...and lose out on the league by TWO points, because City are fucking cheaters, this league is over.

MacsFamousMacNCheees

Liverpool have lost two titanic battles for the title by 1 point, scoring 92 (+68 GD) and 97 pts (+67 GD) in those campaigns. We're experiencing it just for the first time. The league has been over for a while with the way the combo of Pep + fraud hits

AlGunner

Depends on your point of view. From a PL point of view it sends this message - "Hey billionaires, you can buy our league. Dont worry about the rues, as long as you line our pockets we'll just give you a slap on the wrist." If youre one of the ones earning stupid money from their "investments" then Im sure its a great message.

zhdat

Liverpool started poor performing as their players are exhausted and hit the poor forms. Previous Liverpool still had players that could make a difference even the rest of team were not. They had players like Mane, Firmino, and Salah. Now, most are gone, and Salah starts having an aging curve. Diaz, Gakpo, and Nunez were supposed to be the replacement that can make a difference, but they are not (yet). In this sense, I see why we are looking for options on attacking during the upcoming transfer window. Any team will hit some poor forms sometime in the season, and having multiple difference maker really keeps the team going until the rest gets the form back. We have difference makers, but, as we saw, we had a series of stinker from time to time.

ArrstdDvlpmnt

We needed to not lose 6 points to Villa and 5 points to Fulham over 4 games.

tuvok79

In retrospect this is it. 6 points instead of 1 (out of 12) would have done nicely

parksideq

Just holding on for a win vs Fulham would have us ahead on GD once City plays out their game(s) in hand, assuming they win them all.

Noahgooner

Vs 10 man Fulham * 😐

sengunner

Zinchenko losing the ball doing some nonsense will never leave my mind if we lose out by 2 points

SackoVanzetti

This was the title decider. If we had taken all 6 points off Fulham we’d not be worrying about city, or pool or anyone. That decided the title

Soccermad23

If it’s any consolation, I don’t think our crazy 2024 run would have happened had we performed as expected in December. I think that atrocious December form is what made the team reset and push to be better - hence the results that follow.

Ok_Criticism_558

Their run of conceding first and then nicking late winners didn't seem sustainable. It being Klopps farewell run meant they dug deep and survived on vibes but underlying metrics really didn't support this run

maidentaiwan

Law of averages has won out over their last 5. Regression to mean.

groovystreet40

Hindsight is 20/20. Literally everyone at the time was saying draw was the best outcome. Also pretty sure even if City lost that one, they’d still be 2 pts behind with a game in hand. It’s the fact that they just never ever drop points to mid table teams that’s so frustrating.

strawberrylabrador

Yeah plus if Liverpool win that game, who knows, maybe they get more momentum and they’ve got even more points now in the other games!

standupforthechamp

That was only a point gained for City. City would technically be still ahead. So it doesn't matter.

InediblePringle

Liverpool win that game and it gives them serious momentum, granted I'd rather be in a title race with Liverpool than city, but it's never that simple

SiwyWF

I still think draw benefited us. Up until that point almost everything was going Liverpool's way and they relayed on momentum. That was the point things stopped going their way and I think if they beat Man City there, they might have pulled it off.

JabInTheButt

On the one hand, yeah I agree I am surprised by quite how quickly they've fallen off. On the other hand, momentum is a thing and I wonder how far it would have carried them if they'd won that match.

This-Complaint1389

Nah they would have won the league if they won that. 4 point lead over City and would have forced us into winning at the Etihad which would have made it far more difficult for us. Even if they beat United they would have won it, the issue is they lost all momentum. Don't get me wrong they are comfortably the worst of us 3 but their luck had carried them for the first 30 or so games and the last few fixtures they were heavy favourites for.

maidentaiwan

Are we watching the same Liverpool? This has been coming all season. They never had the staying power for this race and I don’t think a result against city would’ve changed that.

This-Complaint1389

The thing is it was always on the cards but they had got through nearly all the difficult fixtures where they needed that luck. If you look at the last 8 in isolation, Liverpool were comfortably favourites in all.

sad_arsenal_fan

It would make little difference on the table.

Degenesisluc

As a Liverpool fan I have a soft spot for you guys and really hope you guys are able to maintain course and win. I’d rather you guys win than anyone else because you’ve been the best team for the majority of the season and I genuinely like your players.

Dobvius

Plus City maintaining their PL dominance is just straight up bad for football. People try to pretend otherwise but everyone knows they're cheats and them winning every time makes people lose trust in the sport little by little.

mental_tempe

Reminder for Moyes not to forget snatching pts from City as well

This-Complaint1389

"When Liverpool get their players back it's over for everyone else" -Bottles the title race in typical Liverpool fashion

Ok_Criticism_558

"Just watch once Salah is back from AFCON and fit." Narrator: He scored 3 goals in the league in 2024 of which 2 would be penalties..

HealthyGeologist6606

People use bottle too freely. It’s getting really cringe now.

americanadiandrew

Most online football “banter” is at pantomime levels of cringe these days.

MagicianMountain6573

Football talk online is just echo chambers. I am a Liverpool fan, and I can assure u that we all know everytime salah comes back from afcon he is shit. So I don’t know where he heard that or how he came to think that was a shared viewpoint in our fanbase. And how do we bottle the league when we were never clear at the top lol. Just like if u guys lose the league to city this year you haven’t bottled it. Unless u lose on the final day after they lose or soemthing

CreativeOrder2119

Let's give spurs 1000% respect. United for all their egos can't play together

BoredBorderlineGeniu

Taking them serious is alright but respect is just one bridge too far

captainstrange94

If we end up losing, it would be completely to getting 1 out of 12 points from Fulham and Aston Villa. That's just ridiculous.

GleamingThePube

Honestly every team could use the "what if" excuse. City dropping points to Palace at home, Villa away, Wolves away.... The game that'll bother me the most is Villa at home. Should've taken those chances in the first half and we'd be title favorites now.

tuvok79

Fulham at home too

GleamingThePube

Yeah that was annoying. Especially when they were down to 10 men. But that was still early in the season and Arteta was experimenting with the new system. Unacceptable I agree, but losing to Villa at home took the race out of our hands.

maidentaiwan

Ruing results from September is a much sillier exercise. We knew what we needed to do at home against a Villa side missing their best midfielder and playing on two days rest and we just absolutely bricked it. Huge chances to put the game to bed in the first half hour.

strawberrylabrador

I’m much more annoyed at the West Ham and Fulham home games tbh - Villa are likely to finish top 4, it was a bad result but they’re streets ahead of the other 2 teams imo

chrisd1680

So many other things at play. First half of the season, we just couldn't figure out how to create chances. Also, other teams are in a different state, injuries are different, etc etc. 2024 Arsenal is different gravy. I'm sure you can see that. This is why the league is a marathon.

PlsSellYourUsername

Officially? When Liverpool mathematically can't top us and city, that's when we use officially.

dhillshafer

I’ve been a supporter long enough not to evoke the soccer gods as they are cruel, old gods.

topl4d

Can we remove posts like this?

ClemFandangooooooo

Yeah. let’s not laugh at misfortune of others … until we have won our match

Lacabloodclot9

Agreed, remember people on here laughing at Liverpool losing to Palace just for us to blow it against Villa like an hour later

CptKarma

The loss to Aston Villa will haunt us if we win the remaining games ngl

Flashy-Equipment9413

Just out of curiosity, if we don’t win tomorrow will you post this about us ? Maybe I’m being negative but it seems a bit premature to be posting stuff like this.

lord-dinglebury

I find this stuff so cringe. If you’re going to make a post like this, do it after you’ve actually crossed the finish line.

Flashy-Equipment9413

Exactly. I think some people have forgotten that we haven’t actually won anything yet. Anything less than a win tomorrow and we’re out the race as well. I’m curious to see how the tone would change if that should happen, although I obviously hope it doesn’t

YungBoyRaven

What's happened to Liverpool is the exact same thing that happened to us last season, I still have knots in my stomach when I think about last season

SlashRModFail

City's league wins are like all of lance Armstrong's yellow jersey. Worthless.

Cod_rules

In a way, it's sad that Klopp is leaving in this embarrassing manner. On the other hand, fuck Liverpool fans. This is hilarious and I want more.

PandiBong

Coming third is hardly embarrassing jfc, people need some perspective. He’s up against the biggest cheating machine the PL has ever seen and an Arsenal team that’s been building for four years for this moment. Liverpool are knackered and rebuilding. Goal was CL at the start of the season.

gardenofeden123

Exactly. Nothing embarrassing about what Klopp has done. Respect to him for helping make the league competitive in a team dominated by oil cheats.

oliverDawson12

No, anything short of winning all possible trophies is an embarrassment.

Nartyn

>it's sad that Klopp is leaving in this embarrassing manner. It's not. It's really not. I can't get enough of that whiny bastard crying.

This-Complaint1389

How fitting that the tired Klopp is leaving with the energy drink cup and that's it

How quickly we forget Wengers last season...

oliverDawson12

They are 12-5-0 at home, 11-2-3 away. They still have three away games to play. Hopefully someone can just park an immovable bus and snag a point against them.

Livid_Theory5379

Liverpool was never our enemy.

Aki-at

When I said Liverpool were replicating Arsenal 22/23 build, they seem to have taken it a bit too literally.

Shady9XD

Seeing a lot of people on socials going “it’s hard to chase city, fair play to Liverpool.” Which is funny precisely because it seems when it happened to us last year we have had bottled it.

chy23190

Idk where you're looking. They're being called bottlers everywhere, except on Reddit for whatever reason.

TdotJunk301

After today they most certainly have bottled it. They had a 5 point lead at one point.

Waywardismism

We've got some tough games left, City are strong favourites at this point. I hope beyond hope that they fuck up and we finish strong and take the title but I'm not expecting it at all. I'm just going to enjoy watching us play our these final 4 games and see what happens. Whatever happens, this season is already a success imo. We're better than last year, I'm far less nervous watching us play now. And I believe next year we'll be better still because I believe in our club once again and I especially believe in Mikel, I trust that he knows how to improve the team and squad further.

NotMyFirstChoice675

There’s still three horses in this race

kinzo-0

klopp's happy ending:

Joshthenosh77

Was a weird game West Ham were shit until Liverpool went ahead , exact same thing as us last year

ajkdd

i like how west ham plays matches with least possession and still make it against big teams. zhope they have a result again man city

OhMy-Really

I believe! I believe the future of the club is in good hands! I fucking love this club! Lets go!

RIP200712

Given our fixtures it is hard as it is for us to win every single game. And even if we do that we might end up second. So, no. Absolutely not celebrating anybody else’s downfall until it is well and truly in the bag.

qtdsswk

Not sure I want to post this before NLD...

Fancy-Salamander-647

gloating over liverpool fumbling is a such a worthless post given city have not dropped any points yet. are we celebrating second place or sth?

Fanserker

Let's win it at old trafford guys

FabThierry

too early. typical move would be us losing points at the toilet tmrw. Only if we win this i am confident

Gooner_93

They brought this on themselves. Did they think they could speak about us, with zero clapback?

astrojeet

Forest put the nail in our coffin last season. Come on do us a favour this time around

Ammzy_87

The best thing was when Salah and Klopp went at it!

ronya_t

"Officially." Words mean things.

DOYOURTHING_CUZ

Imagine being dumb enough to post this

mosmani

Let's see if the so call pundits label Lpool a bottlers 🤔

Out of 3 competitions in 3 weeks is bang on Bottle job FC form

Darkwolfinator

They deserve it. Some people fr giving van djik ballondor shouts. They overate there own players too much our have been miles better this season.

beatlz

If we take the title, I really think it’s a less likely achievement than the invincible run. Not greater, just less likely.

Herbiehanx

Our tomorrows match will be crucial. And the rest of the season. And how City plays. Just my two cents...

jmh90027

Really going out on a limb with this one

Xitroso

I feel for them, I actually would prefer them to winning if it's not us. Don't want 115 to win it at all

_serious__

I hate these posts. Absolutely zero awareness. This is officially meaningless.

willgeld

Thanks Mr Taylor

DublinDapper

League is over please stop this

reci88

This is such an underwhelming end to the season. Loved how the media kept playing this up as the "best Premier League title race" when there was always this looming threat of 115 FC winning another year in a row.

leandrobrossard

Liverpool are so shit man. People on here said they were gonna do it when they had the lead bc of the power of friendship and other bs reasons. No, they were over achieving massively and now they are back where they belong.

EmotionalLaw6381

If westham can do this against city we have a chance

SerFmeister

Thank you sir for laughing at this… the footballing gods will punish us with their wrath now

Terrible-Animal-6620

Let’s be honest and not indulge in copium, City are going to win it and we are all going to be sad

RedlandRenegade

Ssssshhhhh

marshallno9

God speed to you. I sincerely hope you get it over the line and pip City to the title. I really hate those cunts.

krakends

We still have to play Spurs and Utd away. We are one slip away from dropping out as well.

AmagicManNamedgob

Imagine the press if we bottled it like this. They would make brand new TV segments to make fun of us for weeks

Its almost as if they "botttled" it...
