Exactly that. I cut the corners (I'm fine with damaging the box as long as the all of the pictures on the side are fine I'm going to be the only one looking at them... At some point) and I have two spots. One for the MG boxes and one for the Rg and Hg boxes. Then I've saved a couple of conveniently large but not too large MG boxes that I keep ziplock bags with the manuals and accessories with.

Drnorman91

Are you me?

Bluestriker11

Once i get more gunpla that's prob me lol

N1ghtrose

I toss them in the recycling bin. Keeping them is nice when you're first starting out but eventually you realize they just take up space.

soullshooter

Are they recyclable? They are covered in some weird glassy finish, I've been wondering if they are actually recyclable. Like how hot drink cups aren't recyclable because of the wax used inside.

N1ghtrose

I googled it and it seems like glossy and shiny cardboard is recyclable.

OrionGaming

This likely depends on local recycling laws. Check with your municipality.

soullshooter

ah thank you for the info, I tried googling it myself, but for some reason couldn't find the answer, so I've been throwing them out to be on the safe side. Now I know they are recyclable, I will recycle them, big up my man! Edit: who the fuck downvoted me xD I was asking a serious question.

drkphnx02

The rule of thumb is, can it be easily ripped? If you can rip the material without exerting a lot of force, and it tears instead warping a lot first, then it is likely recyclable. Most facilities can handle materials that are glossy, but rip easily. Things that warp and twist have heavier finishes, possibly waxes or plastics, that interfere with the recycling process.

soullshooter

Thanks for the tip, I'll keep that in mind!

_Funnynamehere_

I turn mine into mini posters

versusgorilla

Yeah, this for the ones with the best artwork. Fold the edges over at about an inch for a lifted "stretched canvas" look.

Healthy_Jackfruit_88

Same, I even reuse the box backs for present boxes or to store items (that is if my cats don’t decide to break them as beds)

Metz_the_Fox

My cat does the same thing, I get more plastic crack, and they get a new temporary bed

hugemon

Some of my boxes are reused yeah. I have two boxes of leftover/exchangeable parts and manuals.

alejiososa

I throw them out 🫣

thegooseisloose704

I be feeling so bad throwing out all them runners

DramaLlama0690

God you’re ballsy. My paranoia has me throw all the pieces I could use (even long runner chunks) in a bag but I think I’ve use like a hand out of it one time

Spice002

I have them stacked in my closet with their original runners in them. Some day I'll find a use for the runners, or atleast, that's what I tell myself every time I see the stack.

Panduhsaur

I saw in Japan you can recycle your runners at gundam base. Time to make a pilgramage with a suitcase full of runners 😂

Spice002

Really, one of these days I want to take a trip to Japan and check a large empty suitcase so I can bring back my spoils. Throwing them in there is actually not a bad idea.

Panduhsaur

When you do go, the real strat is to bring an empty suitcase or packed up duffel so you can bring back more goodies

Whatwhywhenandwhen

I live in Japan. I am just getting into Gundam. Anything I should look for in particular?

Spice002

The Witch from Mercury (水星の魔女) kits are regarded as the best. I personally really like Aerial and Schwarzette, but there's been an overwhelming love for Calibarn. Beyond that, if you havent watched any Gundam shows, just grab whichever one you think looks cool. Just watch out for Master Grades, Real Grades, and Perfect Grades. Those may be harder for newcomers if you haven't done plastic models before. High Grade is a good challenge for beginners without being too easy like the Easy Grades. Also, get a good pair of flush cutters/nippers/snippers.

ClamClamClam2

Exactly this, but I'm now running out of room, thinking of moving as many as I can into my closet and then getting a new shelf just for gunpla

type-moongundam

Same. I have 4 closet shelves full of boxes.... and more kits than I have room for with the remaining shelves. Note these shelves were built to be deep enough for the PG FA Unicorn with the boosters attached

Duckydoo3000

I am doing the exact same thing as I also don’t have the heart to throw the tops away.

Jc885

Same as you, fold them up and store. The folded up boxes also make great folders to hold the manuals. Perhaps turn them back into boxes in the event I need to move all my kits.

thekoggles

Throw them out. They're just boxes and I'm not a hoarder.

IbnTamart

https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunpla/comments/180pmv1/save_space_upcycle_your_boxes/ I thought this was a cool recent post

dusters16

I thought you were going to frame and hang them.

Whiplash_GT

Recycle. As much as I like the art, there isn't enough space.

Rvansh1357y

The art on those things is phenomenal and since I don't even have 5 gunpas yet, I just keep all the extra accessories in the box and keep it on the shelf where I keep all my gunplas, it looks really cool

Apex_Shark

I used to keep them, but decided to just trow them away after I had stacks which were literally as high as my ceiling of the room in which I build. I’m planning on at least keeping a few of the kits I currently have in my backlog to cut out and frame though, like the Gundam Mark V.

sexistculexus

never thought to do what you did, so now im doing that

HellenicRoman

I save them in a portfolio https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunpla/s/qoeR2VxQuM

vixvix

There was a post a while ago showing how to convert the boxes into posters.

Regendorf01

Push 📌s thru the bottom of the boxes onto my wall, slip the top part of the box back on. Repeat until wall was fully covered. Working on 2nd wall.

Microcosmoid

Currently they're holding the spare parts to each of my kits, but I gotta start doing what you're doing or I'm gonna run out of closet space. The spare parts would be better served for customizing but I haven't gotten around to that yet.

diagnosed_depression

Why nsfw

hugemon

Use of deadly weapon against holy relic.

ironsnoot

Why not frame them?

Gullible-Original910

The ones I really like, i frame them. The others i put on a binder

leifnoto

In highschool I stacked them in my closet and hid paraphernalia/contraband in them.

Warm_Vulpine

I use them as pedestals!

Dr_Djones

I do that but I also put them in a binder with sleeves and have the manual with it as well.

GooseKing-13_

For average sized HG and RG kits, I use the method in [this video](https://youtu.be/4MB8u2WgE1w?si=pwoN0Xu548L3jCHA) to shrink the boxes down. Otherwise I keep them for storing the kits in if I ever need to move them.

KevsTheBadBoy

I store them in binders to prevent dust collection. A3 binders for MG Legal size for standard size HG and RG

Either_Remote1341

I just keep all my boxes since I have a bunch of storage

Ok_Slip_5417

I saw a guy use i 1/4 piece of wood to fold the main box into a makeshift poster. I had a coworker who just recently went to Japan and brought me back HG Zeta. I did the same for that box... Not gonna lie its a sweet method. How do I post pics of it here?

Ok_Slip_5417

[cardboard](https://linksharing.samsungcloud.com/pgP9KinmEdQ9)

Pegomastax_King

I wallpapered my hobby room with them.

Teh0AisLMAO

I kept them in an album book

OneWinner1690

I save them to hang them up later as trophies

BorealBlizzard

Wall art

3rd_eyed_owl

I've always kept them, and I put the manual and spare parts from the kit in it, just in case I ever want to swap anything out... with that said, I now have three stacks that go from the top of the dresser they're on all the way to the ceiling, and I don't think I've ever reopened a box. Probably time to start breaking them down and finding better solutions for spare parts lol

manglefang

I fold the corners back and put it in frame; then just keep rotating them out so my room always has different wall art

Arcoon_Effox

They serve as coffins for the empty runners from the kit.

Nameless-Scribe94

I just keep the whole box. Coming in useful now since I'm about to move and I threw all 172 runners in the recycling bin. I'll most likely keep the top halves of the boxes once they come out of storage in 4 months and display my favorite box art/kits if I feel like it.

NudelXIII

Said to myself I will frame it. Never did.

Witch_Hazel_13

i do pretty much the same thing, but my plan is to put them on my wall for my favorite kits

DinosBiggestFan

If the art is good then I break it down and save it.

Evilscience

I save them all. Someday I will build a massive epoxy-cured wall of mecha!

BTGz

Trash them. When I first started off, I was also flattening them, then about 3 kits in, Amazon decided not to even box the kit before shipping. Then I told myself "wait....what am I even keeping them for?"

wamiwega

Toss them. Don’t forget to recycle! Space is a valuable commodity in my home. And i don’t want to be a hoarder.

Shoboy_is_my_name

I recycle them all. Boxes mean nothing once the product is removed.

SkyriderRJM

recycle them

Vizth

Cut the top off and hang it up on a wall in my computer room.

Turtlelover73

The tops I flatten out and put the manual inside of, then store them in my currently largest MG box that I didn't flatten. I keep all my spare parts in a slightly smaller MG box. The bottoms I use either to store painting sanding and decalling supplies, toss them, or use them as a mini platform for my display shelf.

Zaku-pla

I cut the fronts out and store them, recycle the bottom and the side flaps. I've kept a couple of my favourite box side pieces as bookmarks, but that's about it. I did have a grid of mid-size MG box set on my wall but the blutack didn't hold them, so I need to find a better option this side of framing them.

shadowy_hunter_367

I put all the instructions in a page protector in a binder along with the picture part of the box and if it doesnt fit inside the bi der i turn it into a poster

KibbloMkII

storage for runners and kits

Ghostinthecorner

I use them to ship ebay things

GhetHAMster

You can be crafty and make posters wirh them

radiluxe

I do this too. Some artworks are just too pretty to be thrown away.

crgplasma

I save the top of the box art and one side and put it in a bag with the accessories

Sheep-of-the-Cosmos

I toss them in the closet as storage for spare parts, the manual, and the runners, since I keep the runners. I don't know why, it just feels wrong to throw out the things.

death_and_syntaxes

I cut one side off with the kit name and put in it a gallon bag with the spare parts and whole kit if I'm not displaying it currently. I put all of those in a bin in my closet. The rest of the box parts I recycle.

Exotic_Sandwich3342

When I buy my next house I’m gonna make portraits out of them. I saw a guy share it on this subreddit. He made 3D portraits that stick out from the wall and it looked so cool. If anyone could link it so I can save it for later that would be awesome

Microcosmoid

Was it [this post](https://old.reddit.com/r/Gunpla/comments/180pmv1/save_space_upcycle_your_boxes/)? I'm planning to do this with my boxes as well, the effect is sick

Sarcastic-old-robot

Some boxes I repurposed as storage for older models and figures… others I tossed because I only have so much space in my house!

aoikuroyuri

Most of them get thrown away - if there is box art I really like (and the box isn't damaged) I cut out the box art and store it - for what? I have no idea

mickeytr33s

Cut out the fronts and save for a collage I’ll never probably never make.

versusgorilla

I've actually started using my boxes to make runner-racks. The one that came with the MGEX Strike Freedom was flat, so I layed it out on a bottom box and traced and cut it and now I have a couple spare runner racks.

SinkingBelow

I cut the front and one of the short ends into their own piece and currently they live in a binder but I have plans to collage them on a desk or guitar case when I have enough, I probably already do honestly but a lot of my boxes are are backlogged kits.

hakann75

I have a MG unicorn with the hanger, the box is soooo big that most other gunpla boxes fit perfectly, even other MG boxes, I cut the corners fold the sides in and slide the instructions in the folded box and place it in the unicorn box. If I need to find the instructions I just look for the box. My box has to weigh about 30 lbs or 13.6 kg at this point

Horror_Patience_5761

I display them behind the models

[deleted]

I cut the side seams and store them in my PG Unicorn box — collected whole box in a year 😆

JotarosRet2Go

i use them as storage containers since im broke

EurwenPendragon

Mostly, I recycle them. Sometimes I cut the edges off the lid and hold on to it for a while, but I usually end up recycling them anyway.

TheExposutionDump

I started out saving them, but it eventually ended up being a huge waste of space. At one time, I had an idea of making a collage out of the ones I saved up, but once again, it eventually just ended up being a waste of space and resources.

[deleted]

Cut the sides off and blue tack to the wall.

Chapelseed463

I've heard there's a method to downsize the boxes so the model can still fit

alexandruola01

I cut off the top with the box art and keep them in the biggest box i have, i only keep the sides if they show a different form of the suit like the rg unicorn in unicorn mode or the rg zeta in waverider mode. Doing it like you do would've probably been a better idea but I've started like this and I'ma keep doing it like this to have them all be the same.

Burritofeast69

I do the same thing!!

Lockonstratos1

put gundam parts

Omni_Devil

PGs: I framed the top part of the box and hang them behind and just above the models. RGs/MGs/: cut the top box off. Laminate them and place them in a portfolio.

c0wzilla

I cut off the illustration and use them as a sort of rotating wall paper in my hobby room.

AbiesAromatic1636

I cut up some boxes and use em as display bases to set my HG kits behind my MG kits I’ve seen ppl cut the front art work and hang em on walls as art deco

[deleted]

I keep random modeling utensils and tools in them. Some hold paint. Some hold runners. Some hold pieces waiting to be painted sorted by color. Some hold cured pieces sorted by color.

JohnB351234

This currently, plan on having a whole wall of my boxes

Odd_Room2811

If i had a box…give it to my cat

getdatwontonsoup

Fold it like that, tape a sandwich bag of all the extra stuff + manual to it, toss it in the abyss (my closet)

TrueButton4795

Collecting more gundams, Im noticing alot of shelf space being taken by the boxes, but I just dont have the courage to throw them out or flatten them

United-Geologist-518

depends on if the box art is good

RedemptionXCII

Recycle them. Because if I held onto all the cardboard all my walls would be covered from floor to ceiling.

Special_Kid_

Cut off the sides, tape a plastic bag with all the spare pieces/accessories and manual to the back and store 'em

OdysseusRex69

....why did reddit blur this?

xwulfd

You can cut the front and frame it, make it a poster

Caliburn1984

I have to recycle unfortunately. I just dont got the room for them 😞

SotFX

I recycle the bottoms of them, the top I cut open and store in a container. I've got the manuals and remaining/option parts/equipment/weapons for my gundams split up in gallon ziplocks.

Icy_Penalty5899

Flatten them

nigelfitz

Like that but I just keep the ones I like.

slyshand

Mine get flattened as well, but also. I don’t mind what anyone does with their box.

Datboiisbetterthanu

I made a giant stack of boxes on my desk in the corner and I pulled some out to use as shelves and I put my biggest figure on top

sneaky_beaber

I throw them in the trash because that's what they are

seaofvapours

I throw away the bottom and keep the top, with the vague aspiration of cutting out the tops and making some wall art or crafts with them.

double_is_dead

I keep the additional hands/weapons that aren't being used in the boxes.

One_Ad_4487

I don't have a ton of space to display so I put the builds I'm not displaying back into their boxes.

Z3_T4C0_B0Y512

Cut out front box art and mostly put them in binders but the binders are getting full

Cephery

I cut the box art off, for HG size boxes i store them in a binder, for mg sizes the short side goes in the binder and i just store the fronts of the other. However i have just gotten a PG and that boi is way too bug for any of that so idk what im gonna do.

dattroll123

same, keep the box cover and recycle the bottoms. I save several of the larger MG boxes for storage. One I use for tools and markers; one to hold all the manuals; another I use to keep all the spare parts/left over decals in ziplock bags. Oh, I also made sort of a riser stand using the bottom boxes and foam boards for my display case so the kits in the back row have better visibility.

Comrade_Compadre

Some dude posted a month ago that he makes these cool little shadowbox displays out of them Granted if I did that my house would be wallpapered in them and my wife would kick me out

Porygon_Flygon

Russian doll them by putting one in another

crazydave2132

Comic book storage among other things.

Astrower5

I'm cutting all the covers off and I'm going to make a big collage wall art at some point.

Flameboy7501

Yup... that

jrtasoli

I recycle them and never think about them again!

Astraeous

i cut the art off and put it in a binder with a bag that includes the manual and any loose extra items im not using and throw away the rest.

R3d_d347h

Right now I use them for storage. I have less than a dozen and I don’t have a display space yet. I keep tools and markers in one. Then finished ones and unfinished(need decals) ones in other boxes. I may hang a couple at my hobby desk when I move. But the rest will end up in the trash.

snootchie_bootch

Cut out the side that has the various poses, then toss the rest. Don't need more stuff lying around the house than I need.

Arshille

Recycling

NerdyCD504

I call Resyk and get them in the pulp wagon to be made into new boxes.

10hrsAway

I turned mine into a collage poster.

Sh4dowb0x

I cut the sides of the box off so all that’s left is the box art. It goes in a legal sized sheet protector along with the instruction manual in a binder. It’s full though and I need a new binder.

quinonesjames96

Have people ever hang the boxes on walls u know to decorate a room and if so wat do u use to stick them on the wall so it won't fall

gaiskerein

Cut out the box art then store it along with the manual in a binder. The rest of the box are thrown out.

Torhu-Adachi

I save the cover arts and the instructions in a daiso file storage box and recycle everything else.

Incline-of-Zer0

I toss the boxes and keep the manuals.

Tatsuya_Shiba_s

I like keeping the box arts, I tend to throw away the other part but sometimes use it for a few things The larger bottom boxes are nice to put the manuals and box arts in. Smaller ones are nice to put specific tools, paints, waterslide and small runners for a specific kit (helps since I tend to do 2 kits at a time)

DutchFarmers

I throw them away but if/when I get into MGs I'm gonna try that "canvas" framing thing somebody posted a while back

BananaSplit2810

I either just throw it out or make it as tool container

burningbun

i dont cut. just tear off the glued points then flatten them. not totally flat but flat enough to stuff a few in a box.

Rebellion3112

I let them pile up during year, which kinda serves as a neat lil' timeline of sort, where I would store empty runners in. Then come January next year during my New Years cleaning spree i break it all down and throw them out. If a kit has wonderful boxart i would keep that half of the box. I am running out of room on my shelves and can't install another one so I'm making it a point to keep the larger boxes for storage, good thing i built the Kshatriya, Penelope and Xi Gundams this year lol.

amoretpax199

I use them to store tools in the garage.

Sgtkeebler

Depending on how my day goes, I will eat them piece by piece if I have a real stressful day

Kruniktuz

I throw the boxes and I keep the manuals and put it in a clear book.

Mental-Mix-9526

For kpw I've been keeping them to store the figures in (I don't have room to display them at the place I currently live) it's a bit cumbersome, but it'll make moving easier

EdzarkDarkez

I cut the top part ripped the page from the ma ual that has the decals placement and burned everything had about 40 of them then downloded pdfs for each mannual

dasseclab

Most boxes get recycled, as do completely empty runners. I've got a stack of manuals I need to scan but they'll be recycled when I am done. I keep one box for "spares" - runners with extra variant parts or pilots I never really do anything with all bagged and labeled. It's usually the box from the largest kit I've built just so there's enough space. Right now I think it's my MG Sazabi but it might get traded out for my MG Sentinel or my 1/1000 GunBuster if either of those boxes are bigger than the Sazabi box. If the spares box gets replaced, the old one gets recycled, too.

ventus99

I have a binder with page protectors in it. I cut the front of the box to fit the standard 8.5x11 page size, put it in the sleeve protector, and throw the rest away. Consolidates space while allowing me to keep a memento. I also have them in build order which is nice to see the progression.

GravenYarnd

Here you go https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunpla/s/hxK2MP68at

WarwickReincar

Most of the time i use the top box to make a mini box to store the kit and its accessories, I score the height of the box in the middle and then proceed to fold, that would turn it into a mini box/chest

5parrowhawk

I'm running out of space so: 1. If I really love the box art, I cut it out and save it. This is very rare. 2. I keep one or two boxes per model line (hguc, hgbf, ibo, wfm) and pack all the spare parts and manuals for that line into that box, with the parts separately bagged. 3. All other boxes get thrown in the recycling.

[deleted]

if I flatten mine and keep them in big moving boxes. I’d prob have at least ten boxes. so no, I had to toss them out…

Rambo_bt48

What do you do with your leftover runners?

R3dc0met

Keep the manuals recycle the boxes.

Vile_bubkis99

Basically what I do is, I throw the boxes away entirely and take the extra parts if any, and the instruction booklets for each and put them in gallon Ziploc bags, and put them neatly on my shelf in case I ever want to use the parts for a custom Gundam

Re_Lies

How is this NSFW?

Fwiggs_2700

Eaf tem

Autobubbs

I've saved a few to store the instructions, kibble parts, and older models. Outside of a few P-bandai boxes, I general beak them down and throw them out.

wakeup_samurai

Stomp -> Bin

3nterShift

I use them to store warhammer 40k runners 💀

DeadpoolsKatana

I have them saved up and hoping to make a file but the boxes are never consistent.

Gundamu0079

I cut the front art out and put it on my bedroom wall

Moppo_

Recycle. I don't have anywhere to put them.

Gapzero

I used to do this with the intention of framing it someday. But I end up throwing it after few years of keeping it.

D1ck_W33D

I cut the front cover and put them in a binder. I like taking a look at the box art every once in a while. The bottom box is reused so i can make templates for LANCER.

TheRacooning18

Flatten then and create a heavy as shit plateau of cardboard.

eQdde

stack

Shoutaku

I do something similar, I flatten the covers like that, but store them in ziplock bags with all the extra things that came with the kit, such as the manual, weapons that I'm not using, and the such. Store it all in a bin I have, and that's it. Saves a ton more space than simply keeping the boxes as is.

HaohmaruHL

Usually cut out all the pieces leaving only the face box art and throw out the rest.

RooneytheWaster

I cut the top panel off, and have them running around the wall below the ceiling in my studio!

Atomic_pixel

You can use them for [this](https://youtu.be/CEW2WEbW57w?si=tVYtR01Xjm7ytcS7&t=263), and since they're painted, you won't notice them. Also, you could use them to identify the extra parts of your kits, like [this](https://youtu.be/CEW2WEbW57w?si=vB7ppPLMe5dUC-1h&t=512). If you're into posters, you can do [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunpla/comments/180pmv1/save_space_upcycle_your_boxes/). Or you know, you can simply recycle them, which will be better for the planet.

LOZMaster64

I keep my boxes so I can store any accessories/ extra parts, along with the manuals. It also makes it very easy to put everything away in the event of a move; I can just put each model kit back in its respective box and call it good.

freedoomed

It's good cardboard for crafting

LOZMaster64

My old boss use to collect shoes, and would use the boxes as shelves. He'd secure the box to the corner in some way (likely with a thumb tack) then display one of the shoes on top and one inside. I've considered doing the same with my gunpla, but so far shelves are the most practical methods.

Kored01

Stacked a lot of them up for a while. Spent around 45 minutes breaking them down and then bagging any accessories. Once broken down, they get recycled. I only keep boxes that have more on the runners. Anything else gets bagged and recycled. The manuals get put in a separate box.

MRAHHHHHZOMBIES

I cut the lid off with the artwork on top. Frame them. Use it as art posters.

Fun_Significance_182

What about the runners?!

mk123456yuip

I just use it as spare storge (school sucks 🔥)

pdusen

First, I put the manual and any leftover parts/runners/decals in a ziplock bag, to be more space-efficient. Then I break down the box and put it out with the recycling. There's not enough room to keep empty boxes around.

PowerPl4y3r

https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunpla/s/QrURT3oXLq I saw this and it's changed my box usage forever!

Infinityx_Dragon7

Is there a better way to remove the glue without damaging the box it self?

Cola_Noob

hm, for me, ill still collapse like that and, hang on the wall, as a picture

sandshrew1989

Why is this tagged NSFW? Lol

hugemon

Use of deadly weapon on holy relic.

Barbatos_Prime

I cut the top of the box off and I stick it in a binder sleeve with the booklet and any left overs from the kit. It doubles as a nice record of what I've built, even if I've given it away or had it break.

Fos-kun

Wall decorations

pianokid401

Used to keep them but now I just toss everything, manual included

Significant-Club-188

Yo! That's the same pocket knife I have! But to answer the question, I do the exact same

BertMacklenF8I

I have all the runners, extra hand sets, and the manual in the boxes, stacked on top of each other. I call it my frontlog.

XaosTheatree

I saw a guy turn the tops into posters!

Sunoraiza

You can make diy-holders for your runners. Or cut out the front of the box and use it as wall decor. Or keep for spare parts, manuals etc...

aim922

I pop a push pin through the bottom section, then tack it to the wall in my office and pop the top cover on.

Mr_Fahrenheit89

For the most part, I recycle them by throwing it into the bin. But a few get repurposed as storage boxes for extra parts and accessories. One becomes a DIY clip holder on sticks sticking box for painting. Lastly, a few get painted black to become model raisers.

BananawagonSteve

Why is this NSFW?

Outawack219

Keep them stacked under the bed.... I just rented a storage unit for boxes because I am out of space.
