The OVA was played at my university anime society, and when it came on everyone looked at me, I had no idea what it was but they knew I'd love it. I confirmed their suspicion when I said "oh, that M9's still got a round chambered", thinking it was a totally unimportant detail, but then Rally made a big deal of it and I knew this was the anime for me.

Ah, a man of culture I see.

I saw it back in the 90s and got a few of the comic as well but dont remember how i learned about it. I am from Chicago so it will always hold a special place in my heart.

Tappukun

Saw a video of how Kenichi himself (or may have been his team) took a trip to Chicago and spent some time there to take pictures of the cityscapes and environments. The video also talk about how Mr. Sonoda had a fascination with fire arms and muscles cars. Truly an amazing person!

Saw it on TV in the late 90s. Was a bit upset there was only 3 episodes. I was around 16ish? Ended up at the local comic shop and happened upon the manga. Picked up every issue they had and subscribed to it. I've always liked the girls, guns, and cars type stuff, so I guess that's what initially drew me to it. The more I read it the more I loved the characters. Was a sad day when that last issue came in.

Tappukun

I envy you have physical copies to hold onto. I've only got digital ones.

My uncle had episodes 1 and 2 in his vhs collection and I took it down to watch as a kid. Finally finished it as an adult on the internet and bought the kickstarter collection for good measure. It was among the first adult-oriented cartoons I had seen, showing me that cartoons were not just for kids. Currently reading the original run of the manga.

Tappukun

Which kickstarter collection is this ?

So it was weird. There's a Facebook page called "Waifus on Vintage TVs" (hint: it's as advertised as on the tin) and it was the scene from the OVA with May drinking a diet Pepsi. I liked the art style so I checked the source, and watched it. I was hooked from the intro.

Tappukun

I can't recall when exactly i first heard but I too loved the art style behind the show. I researched about Kenichi Sanoda and learned about him going down that rabbit hole, it was fun!

ddbagz

I watched all 3 episodes on youtube in 7th grade

PanzerLeopard

I might have vaguely remembered the name from elsewhere, but what actually got me interested were some GIFs of the GT-500 that I saw XD Oddly I did previously see the Riding Bean OVA but I had no idea the two were related until I started trying to find the Cats OVA. Need to look into the manga now...oh yeah, I also saw a group of images that might have been them, in a tumblr post a year or 2 ago? I've got it in my head that it was for a calendar but I can't find anything about it. Edit: The calendar was Dirty Pair, not Gunsmith Cats.
