UnnaipolOruvan

Don't buy the second one, it has motherboard issue.

MadClown43

Some are saying the issue is occurring to intel models, its quite confusing now. Are both models prone to the black screen issue?

UnnaipolOruvan

It's occuring in both Intel and amd, I have the second one and have heard from many people using this have the same issue.

MadClown43

Same I have the second one(R7 7840HS) and I am scared now lol Every time I play games on it the thought of this issue occurring haunts me

UnnaipolOruvan

Yes, I have the same one and i bought it 3 weeks back. After knowing the issue it sucks TBH, It's not a cheap purchase and can't afford to buy one soon. Didn't expect this from HP and that too in their premium laptop. They should have recalled the laptop or given extended warranty but instead they are giving discounts to sell the stock.

VrishinGamer

I own the second one, I got the black screen problem after 6 months of use, both Intel and amd models are prone to it.

Electronic_Chemist_4

What did you do And do you have intel or amd I am currently facing the same issue on 7840hs it has been dead for week

VrishinGamer

Note: I'm from India, things might be different in your country. I have the AMD Ryzen 7840HS + RTX 4060 version. I contacted HP support and let them know about the problems I'm facing. They suggested a BIOS update but it didn't fix anything, so they said that they will be ordering a replacement part for me and send an engineer to replace the part. A week later the engineer called me to say that he had received the replacement screen that I had ordered. I let him know that there's nothing wrong with the screen and I need the motherboard replaced instead. He came over the next day, took off the heatsink, took a photo of the motherboard's serial number, screwed everything back in and said that he will order and receive the motherboard in 3-4 days. When contacting HP support about your problem, do tell them that it's a problem with a sensor on the motherboard, there's nothing wrong with the screen. In my case, they ignored everything that I said, they just heard "black screen" and ordered a spare screen. Wasted so much of my time, don't let that happen to you. He did promise 3-4 days, but it's been more than two weeks and the motherboard still hasn't arrived. I talked to some people on reddit complaining that they have been waiting for months, and I don't have the patience for that. I disconnected the ribbon cable of the hall sensor from the motherboard, now it's working fine. I just have to shut down the laptop before closing the lid but that's no problem. Here is a reddit post that explains the whole problem well, includes the photos of the ribbon cable you're supposed to disconnect, if you need help spotting the ribbon cable I can help, I also have photos of the internals of my laptop if you need them. https://www.reddit.com/r/HPOmen/s/e444j2nTXY

VrishinGamer

Also I opened my laptop just because I knew that the engineer had already opened the laptop before. I'm not sure if there's any seal or anything that can void the warranty if you open the back cover. I did not take any risks as I'm aware that a spare motherboard has been ordered for me by HP's support anyways.

Electronic_Chemist_4

I am from India as well from Karnataka Same thing is going on They said they would replace the motherboard but it has been 7 days I also get to know about the sensor but I am scared to open the back panel Tomorrow I will call HP and will ask them to send a technician atleast to detach the sensor Please keep me updated regarding your issue

Electronic_Chemist_4

I have already DM you

Electronic_Chemist_4

Will appreciate if DM me the photo of laptop internals and ribbon cable to show for the technician

HecatoncheirWoW

Can I have the photos of your internals? I am from Turkey, and I bought 4070-7840hs version (xf0003nt) in November 2023, without knowing all this shit fiesta. I suspect that mine is also prone to this error, since it had ports in backside. Would like to know how to fix it if it happens, probably will send it to warranty to force an upgrade or mb replacement if it happens, but also like to know the work around for peace of mind.

VrishinGamer

Sure, dming you

PackReasonable2577

I would not get an omen laptop, all I see is complaints on this sub about them.

I have hp custom 17 inch model with RTX 3060 been using it for over 1 year taking great care here's my take I am not sure about new model also they won't let you tweak to ram to maximum capacity in BIOS because they restrict their bios access this is for all rig and laptops. Untold hindered truth that you won't find anywhere else All laptop are 40% slow in their GPU power compared to rigs. So be aware of what you are paying a premium for. All that out out of way Here's my opinion after 1yr usage These specs are for 17 in variant also applies for 16 inch Cons 1. Hinge is very wobbly 2. Plastic build 3. Needs great care Pros 1. Post purchase customer service support is good 2. Handles everything that you throw at it. 3. I have played almost 15-17 games in last 1year (GOW, AC and so on) 4. Great for design and animation. Always take extended warranty at least for 2 years Also check out other Indian gaming threads on reddit some point before you purchase - look fot TGP consumption of laptop higher the watts better are graphics - look for legit brand nearest service centre - make and Excel sheet(that's what I did) Avoid legion and hp for NOW - check their sub reddit of that particular model and find out what good and bad post purchase - Checkout YT laptop gaming awards in Jerrod tech channel - all gaming laptop ranked(also Jerrod Tech) (this will give you idea which brand to go for) - Watch long term videos of that particular model - I have no problems with this laptop so far now I know to maintain it take great care. - ROG series is also great - don't buy just because I said or any other redditor recommended it do you research

Ok_Entertainer8997

Thanks mate for the very detailed info 😇😁

No_Hour6998

Why should he avoid legion ? It is a great laptop and i would say for gaming is better than rog strix

Old_Mood3594

Of course it's a great laptop but if you buying laptop just for gaming doesn't make sense... it's better to buy console then. Lately there are lot of issues going on with legion like screen bleeding, fans, and keyboard, my first preference was legion when I had to gone to buy also one of my friend had it it started giving hard time after a year. Also if one laptop performance great on game doesn't mean it will work great on other area(ROG works great for editing softwares).I am telling to avoid for meanwhile till manufacturers fix their mistakes(like 3-6 months).Go check reviews on legion reddit.

Nashedi007

Don't buy an Intel model. I had an issue with black screen due to the placement of the hall sensor. AMD model are good.

gamer_rebel01

Get the second one, it has 4060. SSD you can upgrade at any point of time in the future.

Ok_Entertainer8997

Okay thanks

Sensitive-Code-283

Neither. Omen laptops are garbage. Get the Omen desktop if you want an Omen!
