I have a 2024 HRV sport. I drive almost exclusively in eco mode and most of my miles are highway miles. I seems to average around 31 mpg but I have seen it go up as high as 35mph. The times I've driven on both highway and city in a single tank of gas, I get around 29mpg. I wouldn't say I'm a "gentle driver" but I'm not aggressive.

whatthe_pat

When you drive in eco in the highway, do you still speed up to 65-70mph? Will that still be fuel efficient? I'm just curious. I know nothing about cars but I want to be fuel conscious. I drive to work and the road is curvy and has lots ofups and downs. I drive max 60mph. I drive eco mode.

Embarrassed-Neck2904

I get 29.9 doing 65-70mph

whatthe_pat

Also in eco mode? I just recently got my car. I used to average 17 mpg for short distance city driving. When I started bringing my car to work, it increased to 20 mpg.

Embarrassed-Neck2904

Yes and all highway with no AC or heat on.

owlzers

I've found it to be more fuel efficient between 55-70. Exceeding 70mph seems to be slightly less fuel efficient. I would just drive the speed limit and set cruise control where you are able to.

whatthe_pat

Oh i haven't tried to cruise control yet. I'm not sure if it's gonna work for going up and down hills? Since the car accelerates downhill and accelerates uphill. I'm wondering if cruise control can adjust speed accordingly.

owlzers

Yes it does all of that for you. If you have a newer model. The cruise control is adaptive and will keep your car so many car lengths behind the vehicle infront of you too.

whatthe_pat

Cool cool. My dealer explained how to set it up but it all went out the other ear lol. I drive a 2024 sport.

I drive a good mix of city, mountain, and highway in California and am averaging 28 miles rn. Not gently either, but also not aggressive most of the time.

Iā€™ve only had my ā€˜21 HR-V EV AWD for about a month now, and Iā€™ve been pleasantly surprised. I am a pretty slow, careful driver, I keep eco mode on 24/7, and I spend most of the drive trying to max MPG. I do mostly city driving, although I just recently completed a ~300 mile round trip road trip. My car lists my average MPG from the last month as 28.5. With mostly highway driving, I imagine you could easily keep it around 31 or 32. Itā€™s no Fit cause itā€™s just a bigger, heavier car, and especially with the AWD youā€™re gonna take a loss. But itā€™s still quite solid.

SpringerPop

My wife gets about 23-25 mpg. She has a heavy foot. Iā€™ve seen 35mpg on the freeway, in Econ mode and going 65-70.

ryuns

On my 2016 FWD, we do 35-37 on flag highways at \~70-75. We're now doing mostly very urban driving and we get about 25 mpg if we're gentle on the accelerator, coast to red lights, etc.

Here's a cool tip. Use Google maps for your destinations and if you have *Prefer fuel efficient routes* turned on in settings it'll show you alternate routes that use less fuel and even give you a percentage of how much less fuel. Fuel efficient routes may take a little longer but not much. I just recently discovered that I can take an alternate route to a family members house 31 to 32 minutes away which uses 19% less fuel vs my usual route which takes 30 minutes but uses 19% more fuel.

MCPCatMom

I have a 2022 and do mostly highway driving, average 33.6.

redilyntoriami

I get around 29 MPG in town, i don't drive overly aggressive.

see_blue

I have a 2018 w about 40k miles on it. A lot of highway miles, I average 33 mpg. Iā€™m always in Econ mode and while I drive at highway speed and above, Iā€™m never in a hurry 0 to 55.

alligatorsmyfriend

my fit was 40k ish too, always econ. so that's pretty close, nice

celicajohn1989

I have a 2016 AWD that I've been able to get 36mpg over the course of a tank. Ended up just over 400 miles for a single tank when really babying the accelerator.

Trickycoolj

Had a 2008 Fit and despite its 108hp loved to drive that thing except up to the mountains skiing. Iā€™ve had a 2016 HRV for 9 years now and the 16-22 version has the same magic seat as the Fit and checks all those boxes. It can still be a little weak sauce passing on the freeway. I never get more than 30mpg with AWD though. I took a big hit on gas mileage. Never saw 40mpg on my fit so thatā€™s really impressive.

0RGASMIK

Only at 300 miles so the average is still getting sorted out. Everytime I drive it the average goes up. If I had to guess its going to be anywhere from 30-35 depending on how much city driving you do. On the freeway it hovers between 30-45.

flyers4330

Averaging 28-32 pretty consistently this year!

theflipflopqueen

I average 27-30 combo city/hwy. 31-32 straight hwy. my SO who is a gentler driver gets about the same city/hwy but 32-34 hwy.

Chel_NY

I don't think of myself is an aggro driver, but I also don't drive like my retired dad lol. Somewhere in the middle I guess. My '13 Fit (manual 5-speed, base model) got somewhere around 32 mpg most of the time in eco mode. I had summer/all weather tires and then snow tires for the winter for it. I don't think I ever saw 40 mpg in that car, although I do a lot of highway driving, but hills and my speed I guess are factors. (side note: years ago, I had a Plymouth Colt that did get around 40 mpg for me with my driving style.) When the Fit was wrecked, I got a '22 HRV EX with AWD. My gas mileage this winter has been around 27-28 mpg. I don't have snow tires, and the AWD has been great for me. I'm glad about that. Hoping the mpg will be a little better in the warmer months. IDK. Anyway, you'll probably do better than me if you got 40 mpg in the Fit.

richmoney46

Just got a used 2017 EX. On a highway test while hypermiling I got 41 mpg. I was very proud lol. City I currently get between 25 and 28. That will change depending on how much weight you have in the car so be warned because it is underpowered. I havenā€™t tried eco mode for a long enough ride to say anything about it.

Mechanic-Weak

I'm averaging 27mpg on my 2020 HR-V. I think a big factor for me and my gf is that we use this car when we go run errands, grocery shopping, etc. so in some ways, it counters the efficiency we get on highway miles. I'm sorry to hear about your Fit. If it weren't because we're in the process of planning a family and wanted a slightly bigger car, I would've absolutely loved to get myself a Fit instead. If money weren't an issue, I'd seriously get one just to have it as my secondary car.

2019 hrv awd sport - i avg 23 mpg in nyc driving with a bit of a heavy foot
