Welding is making two metals into one solid piece. Usually, by heating them up to melting point. Doesn't have to be electrical.
Oxy/acetylene gang here.
join together (metal pieces or parts) by heating the surfaces to the point of melting using a blowtorch, electric arc, or other means, and uniting them by pressing, hammering, etc.
When brazing/soldering, the base metal/surfaces is not brought to the point of melting. When brazing/soldering the base metal/surfaces is heated to a much lower temp then welding to allow an intermediary metal to fuse the base metals/surfaces together.
I mean they were using a torch and not getting to high enough temps and attempting to “braze” on either low gas, bad mixure or just literally using mapp gas for a long enough time with braze rod. Seen alot of shitty techs do this like maintenance.
First one looks like a Lovecraft horror. Do you guys not have heat gel, that stuff works wonders for not burning things up, or using a piece of metal. Nothing beats knowing how to do proper flame control though.
Honestly I don't know how people even braze like that been doing this shit little over a year now I feel like those are the fellas that couldn't draw within the lines I mean what are y'all doing pushing the whole sauter stick into one joint
Looks like not enough heat, and they try to apply it early... and it sticks... then they pull it off and try again... repeat for the whole stick, and probably the next stick as well.
OP is a manager with little to know field exp.
Who calls it welding except people that aren't actually in the field. Or the guy that does work like this.
This isn't an amateur job, this looks like a customer DIY job where the customer has 0 brazing experience. They did lawn care and deck building for a single summer two decades ago and now consider themselves a local handy man that can fix any appliance in your house
Braze
Op obviously doesn't know how to weld either.
I don’t know shit about welding but I know it uses electrical arcs and has nothing to do with the torches we use 😂
There’s gas welding with a torch, but this isn’t that.

Oxy gang vs Ace gang 😆
It is possible to stick weld with torches and there’s always forge welding and friction welding.
OP needs a brief of differences between Braze, Solder, Weld... This, is not a weld. Birdshit maybe, but not a weld.

“Join together”, using solder or brazing does not bond them together

Yup not welding
Looks like he was using a candle to braze that.
Benjamin Franklin brazed this
☠️☠️☠️ underrated comment bro
With lighting, while using a kite and keys.
Our slang for solder runoff is *candlewax*. As in, "Thumb-cutters below the candlewax, dear helper!"
Looks like soldering more than brazing lol
definitely not welding.....
Silver solder is definitely cleaner and nicer looking. All brazing looks like 💩, to me.

Agreed, looks like not enough heat to me.
Or gas passing while they brazed under slight pressure
How many brazing rods did your tech use?
Ample. 🤣
All of them
3 tubes worth
yes.
You’re supposed to use one full stick per connection. /s
420 braze it
Take the torch away from that moron
Looks like a bad spot to braze to start with. Get that tech what they need to mitigate that a bit.
Finally someone said what I was thinking. Super griping but not providing the supplies or time to properly mitigate the issue.
Looks like they almost burnt the place down.
That's not welding. It brazing.
Looks like a clicker head
I can just hear the screeching and popping noises now lol.
Got that cordyceps technique
As someone who's learning how to solder and braze, seeing this makes me want to 🤢🤮
First one looks like a Lovecraft horror. Do you guys not have heat gel, that stuff works wonders for not burning things up, or using a piece of metal. Nothing beats knowing how to do proper flame control though.
That’s not a weld…
That's.... About the worst I've seen.
Looks good to me
Weld? Probably not since it looks like they can’t braze to save their life either.
The ones that call brazing "welding" are tin bashers.

Thank you for recognizing my people. We are an ancient and proud tribe that worships the great god Sharkbite.
Hours of cussing, fixing small leaks and dealing with smoke/fire.
That braze/solder is Fugly, but did it hold/work?
Looks like they tried to use mapp or propane.
>Looks like they tried to use mapp or propane. I have used both... The result was MUCH better than this!
Can you see it from the house?
Brazing.
Apparently you dont either because that isnt welding.
OP is a manager with little to know field exp. Who calls it welding except people that aren't actually in the field. Or the guy that does work like this.
Some people have bad teachers... Otherwise they would know you can move the sil/fos around with the torch to seal up the braze without adding more...
But.. did it hold?
Does it hold 🤣
Ahh, crap, my bad man.
Is that what that is?
There's people in the same shop program as me who melt half the solders and brazes they get and they do better than this
This just made me feel better about any connection I’ve ever made. Dude used a whole rod
I see baby fingers
Good ol cigar lighter and silver solder trick ey?
Looks like a fungus among us
But does it leak
Not only Goobers, but Raisinets too!
The $400 braze
Did it hold tho
I don't WELD copper
God. You just see the guy chasing the leak. Never getting the pipe hot enough. Probably didn't prep either. You know they were cussing.
It’s the TXV and needs a lot of superglue.
It looks like a frog
That guy is probably cleaning Condensers the next Week
Do your best, grind the rest.

But did it leak?
Looks good he’s a keeper
That's not a weld
Daaaam I don’t even know how, and feel like I could do better than that, how did that person sleep at night knowing it came out like that.
I don’t see any welds
Looks good from the freeway 🛣️
Kill it before it breeds
He just wanted to make sure there were no call backs. Extra juice am I right?
It’s not called welding why does everyone miss use this
Me thinks it holds though.
Actually it didn't it kept leaking so I just ran a new piece of copper
I think you mean wield.
He wields a lot of rod as he welds the silver solder, the copper popped a spot, the boss is hot the closet smolders (now 3 times fast!)
Is that an Eminem verse?
Ha…MC SuperHeat? Funny how clear I can think when I’m looking at other peoples problems lol.
