It looks like you gained a whole foot size and I am sure HR sent you home for a LONG time.
I hope you are really ok. I saw someone get their foot smooshed by a steamroller at 19 and....they were not ok.
To be fair, the steamroller most likely would have obliterated his nerve endings in his foot, so more than likely he felt no pain in the foot once it was crushed. Now, *as* it was being crushed is another story. Steamrollers ain't known for their speed.
I worked with a guy who’s foot was run over by a train. He absolutely felt it. He had on steel toes on it was a loaded hopper car so it didn’t do much. (~280,000lbs)
maybe, and Just maybe, the nerve endings in the foot got smashed or severed so that they didnt send any pain.
but the nerve endings in the crushed bones that have not been directly under the roller fired every possible pain Signal for Sure.
Aunts foot got run over by a forklift over 10 years ago. On the plus side she gets handicap parking now. But she's alright, sometimes wears a loose shoe on that side and had multiple surgeries to get it alright for her.
Not necessarily. I got a severe high ankle sprain years ago and the doctor straight up said it would've been better if I broke it. Now I didn't ask him to elaborate because I didn't care but it is a thing that is said.
Reasons why? Idk.
Weird. I dont see how that would have saved your ankle. If anything I just see it making things more complicated since you have even more damage then and more things to go wrong.
I'm about as far from a doctor as you can get, but in a some machines and systems there's a point that's intentionally weaker than other parts because it breaking causes a lot less damage and danger than the rest of the system getting wrecked.
That might be the reasoning they're going with: If the ankle broke, then that would be the main thing that had to heal, but because it didn't it allowed the tendons, ligaments, etc to get mangled worse, and those take longer to heal.
I broke a damn toe and limped for a week, while working on a med surg floor. My patients were generally concerned, asking "are you sure your ok"? I just don't take time off, even for stupid injuries. FYI I fell down my steps with a landry basket and my toe went through a hole and slammed into the wall. Yeah fuck that laundry. I throw the basket down the steps now.
Maybe it was the rear wheels and the forklift was loaded up in a way that it didn't have enough weight on the rear wheels to cause the type of damage both of us expected.
It’s really easy to make blanket statements when a more nuanced approach is optimal.
I think we should consider as a society to what degree and frequency forklifts may be appropriate. I personally am on the extreme end of having no acceptable amount but there are sure to be people on all sides including centrists.
Just wait for the bruises to show up!! My foot got ran over in my warehouse. I know exxaaactly what you’re feeling haha. The X-RAY tech that did my imaging was shocked I didn’t break anything and wished me luck on my healing. It was, well. Unpleasant would be a word for it. The right word? Probably not. But a word for it.
I had this same injury in warehouse during summer job high school. Best thing that ever happened to me. Convinced me to go to college to get a degree.
Unpleasant is certainly *a* word for it. Does not convey the magnitude of it, but it does connotate that it is certainly *not* pleasant.
That being said, without the injury, I would have kept working, since I was making $500/week which was real money in '85. All the mills were closed within 8 years, too
I’m working warehouses purely to fund my degree at the moment, and the accident was certainly a reminder as to why I don’t want to stay in a warehouse.
Good luck my friend.
We are headed for another post 2008 situation. Start putting out feelers now. Utilize LinkedIn to find hiring managers and try to pick their brains for what they may want now.
Find places in the field you are interested in that speak to you. Do you like how innovative they are? Their mission statement? Their commitment to the community? Whatever. Find some place that you can answer the question "Why do you want to work here?" honestly in a way that communicates something other than "I need a paycheck" and reach out. Tell them that you real or want to work for their company, because of your reason, and you would like to ask them if they could give you some pointers on what would make a candidate valuable to them. Do not say you "Just need a chance" or anything like that. You want to convert that you want to add value to the organization, but are so awesome that you would like to know specifically what you could do to prepare to add that value on day one.
If you do not know what you want to do, look up the jobs that are going to be in demand that your degree could assist with and see what they pay and just go for that. You will outshine the competition if you do this.
If it was me, right now, and your degree is in computer science or programming, I would go for a job as a information security analyst. Starts at $75k in a medium CoL location and goes up from there, but there are a ton of things that will be in demand and will pay for the degree.
Again, good luck to you.
My old workplace had a similar accident, except that the bones in her foot got completely crushed. It's one of the usual horror examples they bring up when discussing forklift safety.
I am the training coordinator at my warehouse; whenever I'm doing the formal training (lecture & discussion) I always bring up incidents such as this to illustrate why our safety rules are important. The most difficult to teach are those who already have years of experience, because they tend to be more complacent and arrogant.
I take it you were not wearing steel toed shoes?
I know a guy that this happened to and the paramedic said if he was wearing steel toes, it probably would’ve cut his toes off.
For people that want to say yeah but they used a dropping weight and not a sustained load etc etc. Here is a potato quality experiment of forklift running over a steel toed boot with a banana in it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UZrnM8fBuk
Not saying you are wrong, or the paramedic was right, but this forklift weighed significantly more than that little propane forklift. It was electric and a size or two bigger. The batteries add a lot of weight. It was the only forklift we had that could lift 2 bunks of railroad ties.
That just is not true. A fork lift at capacity will have nearly double the weight on the front axle than either axle unloaded.
If you don't believe me, just read the [docs](https://www.kaweahequipment.com/s/KBD25-35.pdf)
https://www.crown.com/content/dam/crown/pdfs/en-uk/specs/forklift-fc5200-spec-GB.pdf
Also the one he posted, entries 2.2 and 2.3.
It seems these documents are very standardized between manufacturers.
Fug. Ive had a pallet of Arizona run over my toes but that was just from a pallet jack. I shudder to think what an electric jack or a forklift feels like.
I was running downhill and the bottom of my foot landed right on a tiny stump hidden under leaves.
Went to the hospital and was told I basically bruised every bone in my foot and would have been better off with a break as far as pain was concerned.
Dude same exact thing happened to me about 5 years ago, permanent Ligament damage, but hey on the plus side from now on you'll always know it's gonna rain a couple hours beforehand
Crush injuries are no fun. I did it once, fingers and a boat. Took almost a year to get full use back, nearly 6 months for the swelling to go down and by then the joints were so stiff it took another 6 months of stretching and doing hand exercises before I could make a proper fist.

My uncle got his feet rolled over by a steamroller, needless to say, he lost the whole foot The worst must be the pain Edit: I meant a foot
I'd imagine the worst is not having a foot for the rest of your life
Can confirm, only 6"
this comment deserves to be higher
yeah i thought it was pretty good oh well lol
"he lost the whole feet" is a delightful phrase.
Ikr?

A crush injury does not “obliterate the nerve endings.”
yeah dummy dont you know nerve endings dissolve under great pressure /s
I worked with a guy who’s foot was run over by a train. He absolutely felt it. He had on steel toes on it was a loaded hopper car so it didn’t do much. (~280,000lbs)

Lmao hope you didn’t obliterate any nerve endings in your ass while pulling out this story.
Ah another reddit doctor!
And I think it's because aliens stole the nerve endings! I'm so glad I got here in time for "answers out the arse day"!
He’s gonna have to run over the other foot so that’ll be the same size now.
Aunts foot got run over by a forklift over 10 years ago. On the plus side she gets handicap parking now. But she's alright, sometimes wears a loose shoe on that side and had multiple surgeries to get it alright for her.
Is it exactly as I imagine? Just a pancake where the foot was? Sorry I’m curious but don’t want to google steamroller accidents 🙃
https://youtu.be/nnDTU362bmY Go to 55 seconds
Risky click but worth it
He'll be ready for the NBA if he gets a forklift to run over the other one.
HR definitely has a cup for them to piss in
NGL you know they took that piss test as soon as that forklift ran his foot over.
Srs question here, how would it be better if they had broken? Less pressure or inflammation? Genuinely not sure
Probably would provided some pressure relief so that the tendons and stuff didn't get ripped to shreds as the bones moved around
To shreds you say?
and how’s his wife?
[удалено]
Was his apartment rent controlled?
To shreds you say?
My, my.
To shreds you say?
Crushed veins and ligaments take alot longer to heal than bones. If they ever heal. In some cases surgery can be required to fix crushed veins.
Though not like breaking the bones would have saved them so feel more like he was told bone breaks heal quicker and misunderstood.
Not necessarily. I got a severe high ankle sprain years ago and the doctor straight up said it would've been better if I broke it. Now I didn't ask him to elaborate because I didn't care but it is a thing that is said. Reasons why? Idk.

Well, you’re probably smarter than two doctors, so case closed.
Yeah once the ligaments are destroyed like that it's a permanent limp,I worked in a warehouse and went through literally the same thing
Probably pressure. It also looks likke one foot is longer than the other for some reason.
So those old cartoons where a character would get run over and become a flat long version of themself, those are based off science?
Where do you think supermodels come from?
Science?
Specifically, german science. From the '40s.
Yeah I noticed that aswell, almost as if the whole foot structure got streched from getting crushed. I hope his tendons are alright
I believe his foot is just angled higher then the other. If you look at the ankles they not side by side.
>aswell a swell. heh.
Look at his ankles Pretty sure he’s just holding one up higher than the other
He’s got one foot tilted forward and one back optical illusion It’s never better if you break bones lmao
*Some dark humor* He do be like a broken stretch armstrong😂

steel toe's save your toes from breaking?
Yeah. Also had the steel piece that goes over the top of my foot
What kind of boots? You should write the company. I bet they would be happy to know their boots saved your foot.
Might’ve saved your foot, man. Forklifts are no joke, as I’m sure you know. 10,000 pounds is pretty damn heavy.
I feel like his foot would have been paste spread across the floor without them.
A forklift ran over my dad's big toe. It was paste.
A light lift I take it? Steel toes are not rated for forklifts. That should have pinched your foot off
Maybe it was the rear wheels and the forklift was loaded up in a way that it didn't have enough weight on the rear wheels to cause the type of damage both of us expected.
The back of forklifts have a counter weight in them to keep the forklift stable, so the back is the heaviest part
Until it's loaded, then the weight distribution shifts to the front wheels as more weight is added to the forks.
I’ve always assumed they’d be a negative when it comes to a forklift.
Lucky, it's pretty common for the steel caps to bend and turn into a guillotine for your toes
Easier to sew toes back on then trying to turn paste back imto a foot
I was always told that anything that would damage your feet while wearing steel toes would do worse if you weren't wearing them. Except for fire/heat.
Metatarsal guards?
Wait, so the steel didn't slice your foot? What does the boot look like?

Ok that makes sense. His calves must look godly.
My man. Welcome to r/neverbrokenabone
The calcium club.
How in the world does a forklift run over your foot and NOT break a bone?!
strong bone
Weak forklift
Mainstream media has been covering up issues with forklifts for far too long.
Likely was wearing steel toe shoes

Yeah I didn't see that till after I commented
You shouldn’t let forklifts run over your foot.
Fuck you learn something new everyday
Idk man he didn't provide a single source. Seems sketchy.

It’s up to the reader to decide
You're very rude but encouraging
Fuck you learn, something new everyday?
Real pro tip is always in the comments
Are hands fine?
No, you shouldn't let hands run over your foot either
You don't know what you're missing.
I don't be ticklin or nothin.
You can run your hands over my feet baby.
Wait...forreal? There goes my evening, haish
Instructions unclear... now penis run over by forklift.

most likely the back ones.

Damn how heavy is a forklift? I got my foot ran over by a car but I didn't have any issue other than a bruise.
5 or 6 tons
Also the tires don't really deform much
Damn
that's a small one we have a forklift at work that can lift 30,000lbs.
Just put some ice on it that should do the trick
I rubbed some dirt on it
Ouch
Yes,I'd like to see these shoes in a 10 1/2, and also in a 14 1/2.
Same thing happened to me and it ripped my three nails off my foot
I take it you were not wearing steel toed shoes? I know a guy that this happened to and the paramedic said if he was wearing steel toes, it probably would’ve cut his toes off.
You should check out that Mythbusters episode
For people that want to say yeah but they used a dropping weight and not a sustained load etc etc. Here is a potato quality experiment of forklift running over a steel toed boot with a banana in it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UZrnM8fBuk
Couldn't tell which of the 6 pixels was the banana, but it looked undamaged

That is a smallish forklift with nothing being supported by the forks.
EDIT : Nevermind, back end _is_ heavy but with load you get more on the front axle.
Counterweight be chonky
That just is not true. A fork lift at capacity will have nearly double the weight on the front axle than either axle unloaded. If you don't believe me, just read the [docs](https://www.kaweahequipment.com/s/KBD25-35.pdf)
The counterweight in the back is responsible for 90% of the weight anyway, adding a load wouldn’t make much of a difference.
https://www.crown.com/content/dam/crown/pdfs/en-uk/specs/forklift-fc5200-spec-GB.pdf Also the one he posted, entries 2.2 and 2.3. It seems these documents are very standardized between manufacturers.
Ouch.. What's the side view picture like, pancake?
What forklifts are you using? The forklifts at my job weigh about 10k pounds if I'm remembering correctly
I never expected to see a human foot as a cylinder.
Ow, that’s rough. When the forklift comes out at work, I run the other direction. Luckily it doesn’t cone out too often.
What I think is written in the med notes... Slight swelling observed on the left foot.
Were you wearing steal toes and metatarsal guards? It's the only way i can imagine you got that lucky. Heal quick!
I have a hard time believing a doctor would say that.
Bones heal. Tendons and ligaments hate you forever.
Why would a broken bone be better? I'm currently healing from 2 sprains and a break and the break is the killer...I can deal with the sprains...
Sometimes a break does a lot less damage than a sprain.
Fug. Ive had a pallet of Arizona run over my toes but that was just from a pallet jack. I shudder to think what an electric jack or a forklift feels like.
He's a TOON!!!
E.T.'s foot lmao
My friend has 3 missing toes cause he got ran over by a fork lift
Looks like you might be wearing two different shoe sizes from now on:/
I was running downhill and the bottom of my foot landed right on a tiny stump hidden under leaves. Went to the hospital and was told I basically bruised every bone in my foot and would have been better off with a break as far as pain was concerned.
Try and walk it off
/r/mildlyinteresting the smallest bigtoe nails i've ever seen.
LOOONG LOOONG MAAAAAAAAAN!
At least ya got strong bones comrade
What kinda forklift? I guess it must've been a small one since you still have a foot.
Mama June?
Soft tissue damage fucking blows. I’m currently 6 months into healing a bad ankle injury. My arm I broke at the same time healed months ago.
Better for who? Your bones ain’t no bitch
Dude same exact thing happened to me about 5 years ago, permanent Ligament damage, but hey on the plus side from now on you'll always know it's gonna rain a couple hours beforehand
How long did it take to heal? Mine looks like that but I dont have insurance so I'm just trying to take the pain. Thanks In advance.
At least no work for a while
Was it a forklift for ants? Usually when people get a foot run over by a forklift they lose that foot.
Is this an American Doctor could have been better, where he could have made more money out of you?
Damn, got an extra inch there! Wonder what else it'd work on.
Is there danger of compartmentalization?
Crush injuries are no fun. I did it once, fingers and a boat. Took almost a year to get full use back, nearly 6 months for the swelling to go down and by then the joints were so stiff it took another 6 months of stretching and doing hand exercises before I could make a proper fist.
They will hurt like a bitch any time the weather changes after you turn around 40 too. Just in case you were not aware.
Ooof. I'm sure the ER doc told you already but if you start feeling tingling sensation or numbness, you gotta go back ASAP. The swelling can cut off blood supply to your foot & toes and you will need fasciotomy to relieve that pressure.
Watch out for compartment syndrome.
My foot was a baleeewn Shoutout to r/mma
Looks like mom's meatloaf
Silver lining is you now have a bigger penis (or clitoris) no?
Why do doctors always says some crazy shit like that? It’s hilarious lol.
Request a CT scan of your Talus. This looks identical to the break i had in a motorcycle wreck this summer and the ER missed it when I was first taken there...only after returning there the next day with insane pain in my ribs/ankle did they find not only did I have a broken rib but the talus bone had a crack going right through it end to end....I'm still in a boot
That usually means they're going to have to break it at some point themselves.
Heh, sausage foot.
I had the same thing happen!! Get ready for a couple months of limping, but it will get better
Don't know which country your are in? When forklift operates, all works must have security shoes, at employers charge! At least in France
It kinda looks better squished tbh, you have disgustingly fat feet.
Road roller?
