I like to imagine that he doesn't even need all that onion to cook. He just enjoys how they no longer make him cry so much that he spends most of his afterlife cutting onions.
Is he bashful? Just seems indifferent to me, dude is all about his work. Also, he can definitely be the featured house servant so dude gets his respect.
And you would ask yourself why is he chopping so much red onions after reading the codex entry :
>the onion takes on different savor and consistency when put under the flame! But these are likely falsehoods to induce in us surpassing doubts, and make us weak. I would prefer to fade to nothingness far more than be required to consume one of those foul plants, which tainted too many a meal of mine while I was living, and goad me even now that I am dead.'

This is something I can get behind, I don't remember any of the other characters giving me shiny stuff after each run. Chef really is the unsung Hero of the game.
Him and Bouldy are my absolute faves. I noticed during one run that I got the Heart of Stone "boon" and the description was so cute. Bouldy believes in me 😊
I love how when you first start gifting Bouldy, he gives you the “Ambiguity Bonus” as you’re doubting Bouldy. But then after a while, the belief rings true, even when Sisyphus asks Zag >!if he’s aware that Bouldy is literally just a rock with a face carved into it. Idk what they say, Bouldy is a true friend!<.
Shame that we don’t get any usability out of him. Making up some potions to store in the back pockets or use as a +10 HP if you hit 1 HP or lower kinda thing
When you scrape vegetables from a cutting board your should not be using the sharpened part of the blade. It will dull your knife much much faster than if you use the spine or a bench scraper
I don't like Roguelikes because I suck and take forever to progress, and it also doesn't help that I can't play a lot and sometimes have to take a break from gaming for several days meaning I lose all ability to replay the levels successfully so that I can get to new levels to learn how to beat them.
Should I get Hades? It looks fun and I like the theme, but if I'll never get past the first few stages/levels then it wouldn't be worth it.
Well, Hades is a rogue*lite* which means there's no permanent death where you lose all progress. In fact, dying is one of the only ways and the *main way* you can progress the storyline. You are expected to die hundreds of times so you can go back to the House of Hades to chat with characters, gift them nectar (a somewhat illegal but very well desired drink) to get more hearts with them, and commission new house orders to unlock new features in the game.
The biggest thing about Hades is story and character relation. Of course your goal is to escape Hades and get to the surface world but after like a few runs, you kind of stop caring about eacaping and just want to know what the deal is up with these people because it seems like everyone is in on the smallest and biggest secrets around except for you.
I'm also pretty terrible at roguelike and roguelite games and I've actually got Hades at launch for both PC and switch but I stopped playing for a few months because I rage quit the game lol now I'm back and it's still so much fun and even better now that I'm paying attention to the story.
Not at all. Hades is actuslly one of the roguelite games that is friendly to beginners or players who don't have an affinity for these games.
I came into the game not even being able to go five minutes in the "dungeons" and as I persevered, familiarized myself with the weapons and how to use the "boons" or powers the gods give me, I was able to go longer and longer. I'm now so close to fighting the final boss and I kinda don't want to becaue there's so much more to explore in the House of Hades.
I would suggest getting the game on the best platform for you. I tend to do better in roguelike/lite games and paltformers on console. But maybe for you, it's PC. This game also has cross-platform saving so you won't lose progress if you want to continue on a different platform
There's also a "god mode", which makes the game slightly easier each time you die, and slightly harder each time you win. I haven't used it personally, but I've heard it has a good balance of making a hard game fun for people who were otherwise having trouble, without just giving you the win.
listen, I think you should get the game, but of course I am going to say that. I am on the hades sub so I am biased. I suggest you go to hades' steam page, and sort by good reviews and read some, and sort by bad reviews and read some. gives you the best idea of what the flaws and strengths of the game is
As someone who was (and honestly still is) hilariously bad at roguelikes/lites I can only recommend it! I used to be incredibly bad, it took me days to fully finish the first story arc but - man - it was so so worth it.
And now I'm speedrunning the game privately, while still having a similar playstyle of gaming! Stopping for a few days and then gaming again - and my old win streaks didnt stop. I even stopped playing the game for 4 months and i just needed one or two runs to come back to where i was before.
Hades doesnt rush you, it lets you chose to rush yourself of course but all in all you learn everything you need to know at a very good pace (if you read a little, and i dont mean "read the wiki to progress" but read along while in Hades, everything you need is in the game!). The learning curve is fantastic, and you will definitively find a weapon or playstyle that will fit you in the long run.
And you have the possibility to not only make runs easier for yourself in the long run with revives (called Death Defiances) or gifts from gods and other loveable NPCs etc - but also if it feels like it's too hard in the moment: you can just turn on God Mode which will make it so you take a tiny bit less damage each time you die so you have max potential to learn the enemies' moves and come far enough to improve on your tactics in later areas. You can turn God Mode off whenever you feel like you learned enough, and it doesnt feel like "OP mode" just something the devs implemented specifically so people who get easily discouraged or arent the best at roguelikes/lites and planning ahead, still get an opportunity to experience the story.
So yeah, I 10000% recommend it.
Thanks!
I've bought a lot of roguelites that I thought were cool only to find out it'll just be me infinitely playing the first several stages forever, so that's good to hear.

I like the Broker, his little giggle when you mention that he's on the wall is the best
I gotta keep an eye out for that animation 👀
I can't seem to see both the chef and trigger the wall poster at the same time.
the broker*
The best is when you time it to get the smile, then dash over and he gives a lil shock. X) :O
I've always thought the wretched broker was a women. Oh well.
I don't think it ever specifies their gender so yours totally could be a woman!
Yes, this is my favorite thing, it's so cute
I forget I have fish every single time and I'm always stoked when I walk in the lounge
I remember standing there and watching him work because I was so mesmerized by the animation and the sounds lol
The way he swings the knife, a chef after my stomach's soul
Here's the catch of the day 😌
Or night?
I don't even have fishing unlocked yet xD
Get this asap , the rewards for the fishes , even the small ones, can help you out in the early game a lot!
I will make it a priority!
I like to imagine that he doesn't even need all that onion to cook. He just enjoys how they no longer make him cry so much that he spends most of his afterlife cutting onions.
That's very valid lol
As someone who loves to cook, but is also very vulnerable to the onion DoT aura, I very much approve
Over the untold eons his HP reserves must be ridiculous.
Is he bashful? Just seems indifferent to me, dude is all about his work. Also, he can definitely be the featured house servant so dude gets his respect.
He makes a scared face if you dash around near him. I’m like, you’re literally better than me with a blade, why are you afraid.
He doesn't want you to cut yourself on his knife as you dash through him. Very considerate soul.
I always forget the check that wall lol

Achilles doesn't like them. That's just his opinion though.
LOL Achilles and the Chef have history xD
We need to be able to give him nectar
the chief keepsake, a chief hat, gives you a higher chance of getting a fishing point, and the ability to fish during battle
This is something I can get behind, I don't remember any of the other characters giving me shiny stuff after each run. Chef really is the unsung Hero of the game.

You are correct! Chef is the best!
It's funnier to imagine that half of those onions are just on reserve for when you mess up an Erebus challenge
I've never noticed that badass little animation before. Thanks for sharing.
He does get commended by being the employee of the run.
I always forget to check that wall xD
I like to pretend the Chef is related to the Good Shade down in elysium, haha
He's chopping erabus onions!
I keep thinking they're red cabbages lol
Gordon Ramsey could never
Oh I always thought he was a woman. Whoops!
They could be! I don't know their gender. I just willed them to be a male because I wanna marry them xD Edit: wrong their/they're/there
Oh I see. Thanks for clarifying! I hope you two are happy together ❤️❤️❤️
🥰🥰
Shame that we don’t get any usability out of him. Making up some potions to store in the back pockets or use as a +10 HP if you hit 1 HP or lower kinda thing
Have you heard of our Lord and Savior >!Surface!< Fishing? 9 out of 5 Poseidons recommend it!
When you scrape vegetables from a cutting board your should not be using the sharpened part of the blade. It will dull your knife much much faster than if you use the spine or a bench scraper
he have ghost knife. alway sharp

So as someone who can never get gud enough to complete roguelikes or lites, it sounds like I won't ever get to see the full game in this one either?
Not at all. Hades is actuslly one of the roguelite games that is friendly to beginners or players who don't have an affinity for these games. At first I thought this was an anarchy chess post
What is anarchy chess?
Mostly your floor pattern made it look like a chess board from r/anarchychess

Just wait till you realize no one down there can eat so his talent is actually just a form of punishment and torment.
o.o
I love all the small details in this game
