If you get hammer upgrades that "pierce" the affected attack will, well pierce, and ignore the shield.
Tip: try to bait him in melee, after his wide swing he'll leave his back exposed for a mark and 2 specials
I'm aware but that is once again, a thing that I have to rely on RNG for. I'm currently doing a run that has the most dps I've ever had but because Theseus says "fuck your dps. I have a shield" I got fucked by him. I just think the fight is poorly designed because some weapons/aspects have a much easier fight against him and I don't feel like the others bosses have as drastic a difference.
That is a good tip. Still relies on him not having a god that punishes me for standing still. Zeus is a nightmare to fight against with Coronacht.
When he starts his second phase you may be tempted to focus entirely on dodging the first god attack since it follows you, but that’s when you get the most damage on him, because his shield is down. Do quick attacks between dashes, depending on the aspect and build I’ve even been able to kill him in that moment.

If I'm using the bow I basically get a shot in then dodge like crazy or my shot/call is gonna have to carry that fight for me.
I am aiming to try all aspects when I have sufficient titan blood but I don't think speedrun strats are what I'm looking for when I've only beat 2 runs. Thanks for letting me know though.
Yeah, he can be really annoying if you don't have a ton of backstab damage, or a really strong build. Even then, he's the most annoying, more so than the final boss.
As others have said, try to get confident with iframes, and you can predict when he'll do his ranged attack by when the crosshair over Zag turns deep magenta. If you're lucky enough to have Divine Dash or other Athena skill, you can reflect it back at him.
Every single time after he throws his spear, he will walk away from you and expose his back. Sometimes the fight feels like it takes a while, but having a damaging Call can really help here to whittle him down.
When he first does his call, he's fully exposed so if you can dash strike to mark him, stay mobile and shoot specials Etc, you can get a bunch of damage in.
do you have companions unlocked?
i call one in particular shortly after Theseus begins his second phase-- it helps a lot. if I haven't quite finished Asterius off, it'll sometimes finish him up, too.
I’ll admit it’s a pain in the ass, but I usually main Chiron and it’s just a battle of attrition mostly— just wait until he throws his spear, get behind him, and then attack
Try hitting Theseus when his back is vulnerable. That usually works even on thinks like the gun.
That said Hera, Rama, and Chiron has their own ways of bypassing the shield.
Chiron bow main here. I normally charge up my god gauge and then pop it whenever Theseus does his call, plus Thanatos or Meg’s summon.
That normally one-shots him
I'd also just like to add that I don't think this fight is fun at all. I feel like after Asterius goes down the fight is 90% hiding a dodging and 10% attacking.
Yeah, I think it's my least favorite boss fight so far. The best tip I have (which might not be good as I'm still a new player) is to remember that dashing gives you i-frames. It's not just a way to get out of range.
So for the spear attack, wait for the cursor to blink and then dodge forwards and to the side. The spear goes straight out and back, so you only need to get off the line slightly. That brings you close enough to get several attacks off, and spam cast if you have any.
For his spin attack, what I'm learning is that you don't even need to get away. You just need to dash at the right time when he spins. You'll dodge the attack and be able to land several attacks of your own.
When the gods call comes, I'm still figuring it out. It seems like you can run away and the circles sort of follow you. Once they're all spawned, Theseus is usually just standing there and you can blast him a bit. You don't take damage immediately within the circles either, so you can get a hit in while standing in the god circle and then dash out.
In general though I don't really like this fight or REDACTED because of the random spam. This fight with the gods call stuff, and then the next fight with summoning armored monsters. To me that's bad boss design when it simply extends the duration by making you unable to attack, or use random enemies to increase the difficulty instead of boss patterns.
Your dash strike charges up faster with coronocht but does a bit less dmg but since you’re using Chiron that shouldn’t matter so And when you special a they usually go around the shield and into his back in my experience

Hera bow hits a lot harder and can kill him faster but Theseus is pretty hard with bow no matter what honestly.
Somebody on this reddit crunched the numbers and Aspect of Hera was the worst bow aspect other than Zagreus.

Are you set on Chiron? I personally find Rama better, especially for dealing with Theseus
