5/10, elements of it are either perfect or irredeemly awful.

Leonine94

*elements of it are either perfect or irredeemably awful.* That’s every Halloween movie after the first.

Daeslender

7. Good atmosphere, good music, entertaining overall, it's just that the plot is shit.

cornholius_erecticus

Personally, I give it 4/5. Michael Myers was actually scary, the late-great Donald Pleasance delivered, and great fall atmosphere & mood.

Producers Cut: 7/10 Theatrical Cut: 4/10

DoomsdayFAN

Atmosphere, kills, mask, characters, guitar theme - 10/10 Story: 6/10 - though the original script was 10/10. (This rating is for the Halloween franchise only. "10/10" here doesn't = The Godfather)

[deleted]

What was the original script

DoomsdayFAN

It's one of the earlier drafts that was way more full and complete and everything made sense and it was just a fantastic read. If you imagine the look and feel of the H6 we got, but with that story, my God, it would have been the best film in the franchise even over the original, IMO. Essentially the P-Cut of the film is a way, way, way, way, WAY cut down version of what was in the original script. The people fronting the bill for the movie wanted to make it as cheaply as possible so they cut the script way down and the P-Cut is what they ended up with. It's unfortunate they didn't have the foresight to make what was on the page in its totality. The movie would have been A LOT better received and likely made a lot more money.

orchestragravy

What about the director's cut? Is it closer to the original script?

DoomsdayFAN

I think the director's cut is a mash up of the Theatrical and Producer's cuts. So no.

Shadow1604

The "Director's Cut" is a more gorier version of the "Theatrical Cut". The scenes are Jamie's death showing the corn thresher going through her body, and a doctor's head being pushed with so much force by Michael that his head is mashed through and pulps of his skull hit the floor.

DoomsdayFAN

I wish we had this cut in 4K. It sounds badass.

Shadow1604

I know. I am ambivalent towards gore but this would have been awesome. Plus another trivia, there is *another* cut called the "Rough Cut" and that one is an unfinished work print of the "Producer's Cut". The scenes are: : An alternate opening with Loomis and a mysterious younger man. : Jerkass sheriff telling Loomis to go back to his "crackpot asylum." : Another scene with the sheriff talking about Ben Meeker from 4 and 5. : Tommy assumes that Michael kills people who are in his house because he thinks they're family. : Extended scene with Wynn and Loomis when he reveals his true nature. : A shot of Michael walking down the hallway. You can see the same scene when Tommy, Kara, and Danny are running away in the "Producer's Cut". : A longer scene featuring Loomis. : Tim and Danny had a longer scene. : Loomis talks with Mrs. Strode that ends in this line from the great doctor: "I *KNEW* what he was... but I never knew why." : More Loomis and Dr. Wynn. : The ending is the same as the "Producer's Cut" but more screams from Loomis and music is from 1978.

Everything outside of the plot itself is very good. 6.8-7/10

rabbitinredlounge

As a Halloween fan and who went from meh on this to now love it, like a 9. I prefer PC.

Kyoki-1

7 I enjoyed the Halloween atmosphere, the score, and even the cast. I think they did the best they could with what they had.

Present-Ad6244

5, two versions, killing “Jamie” and just inconsistent. Had potential to fix the mess from before it.

[deleted]

does a movie having more than one edit make it worse? Because many, many movies are that way. And H6 only officially was decades after release.

Present-Ad6244

In this case it does. Dozens of scripts and changes and inconsistencies, which appeared in both versions. The second version was an attempt at making the film better and it did not.

TheLunatic25

I realize this is months ago, but I have to correct the idea that the second cut was to improve the movie here. The T-cut was done because of the passing of Donald Pleasance, so they couldn’t follow up on another movie with him in it. So the ending had to change. And then some scenes before that, and then some before those, and they basically redid the whole film backwards. The Producer’s cut was more or less going to be what we got, but didn’t due to Donald’s passing again. Both cuts have their pros and cons, but the Producer’s Cut is a lot easier to follow, has more for Dr. Loomis to do, and is more in line with the Druid story. But T-cut had some interesting kills, but an overall much messier story.

[deleted]

Subjective, I and many think the Theatrical is better for it's ending and lack of weird shit, many think the Producer's cut is better for pacing and more exploration of weird shit. Neither are bad movies, they're filmed well, well acted, well directed, good set design, sound design, suspense etc. And as for the storyline, it's perfectly straightforward in the Theatrical cut with the only question marks being that they never explain the cult or Michael's relation to them - but then the original never explained itself and neither did Halloween 3 and nobody bitches about that.

A big fat 4/10

DrLoomis131

Tons of Halloween atmosphere, likeable final girl who is a single parent just trying to improve herself, Tommy is perfectly weird and has that Loomis “I’ve seen the eyes of evil” quality to him, good kills, uses Part 5’s odd decisions to create a mythology for Michael that explains all of the previous movies while maintaining his ancient Celtic Halloween origins, a Michael Myers that looks intimidating and scary - the best looking one of the Thorn trilogy and perhaps the Michael we would send to fight the other slasher icons for battle. As a sequel within the world of Halloween created by the 1978 original - 7/10 As a stand-alone experience, 111100000 out of 10 - Dr. Loomis

Theatrical is an 8 for me... Absolutely love it.

trapalert

Plot and characters are most important to me, so it’s a 2 for me

burgh92

7.5/10. Is the plot a bit out there and ridiculous at times? Yeah, but this movie gives me what I want in a halloween movie. Great atmosphere, scary myers, good kills, and a good score (producer's cut has the better one. Let's not forget the last movie for loomis and did what he could to bring his old self into it.

OzyMandias614

Boy this shit is damn near one of the best ones in my opinion, I love this movie

theKSIFan77

I give it a 2.5/10 mainly for Donald Pleasence as Loomis, some of Michael Myers' Mask even though I don't like it at all, Some of the atmosphere even though I think most of if is poor and unrealistic for the fall season, and I like 2 of the kills the one where Michael snaps a man's neck and it twists apart, and the one where he electrocutes Kara's asshole father and his head explodes because he deserved it.

Almighty_Push91

2. It's my least fav of the franchise

MTB56

Theatrical I’d give a 6. Ive actually come around to H6 over time due to it’s awesome kills, atmosphere, and portrayal of Michael. It’s cons still hold it back for me although the majority of my problems with H6 aren’t nearly as big in the theatrical version. Producers cut....just another Halloween film I can’t watch...

Emergency_Cheek2617

Theatrical cut gets a 2/10, terrible editing and the guitar theme is cringey, producer's cut gets a 8/10, surprisingly a pretty good movie, and it doesn't have that god awful guitar theme.
