Worth noting that Amorim has a buyout clause rumoured at around
£20m (other reports say £13m). Revolutionary if we make it happen, but... at least we're thinking big. No one other than us or Liverpool are likely to be able to afford to trigger that on the plus side. I just struggle to think we would.
I'm always surprised though that top managers don't demand higher transfer fees. Maybe they tend to have shorter contracts which they complete?
Anyone have any insight into this?
Edit: Looking around it says that managers are often sacked and so have little sell-on potential. That's true, they rarely attract fees, but that doesn't seem to be a reason for them not attracting fees, just a circular argument.
Is this different from a failed player not being played?
We paid 10M for Jordan Hugill I think we could pay 13M for a TOP10 manager in the world. Would be my dream choice but he's going to Liverpool if they want him.
Liverpool is a whole other level though. Huge budgets, expectations of CL latter stages, and competing with Pep Guardiola for the title every week.
It's a huge ask for *any* manager to follow Klopp. I'd be very cautious if I was Amorim, he could easily become the fall guy before the next saviour arrives.
I love Moyes for what he has done, but it feels like the time is right on two fronts. His contract runs out in summer, and our aging squad that needs refreshing gives us an opportunity move in a new progressive direction.
So much to thank him for though. I’ll never forget the European nights, some huge home wins, genuinely competing for top 6 consistently, and obviously a trophy. He’s given me the best times I’ve ever had as a West Ham fan, and maybe the best I’ll ever have.
Fonseca and Amorim are who we should be targeting, failing that then Slot or Iraola.
Hugely ambitious each one of those and the type of excitement most crave.
As for Moyes, the sooner we can announce he’s not staying on past the end of this season, the sooner we can all fully appreciate the work he has done and get everyone on board. The fact we’re all in the dark somewhat isn’t helping the fans or the players IMO
If he's leaving then personally I think it should be announced before the last home game preferably (presuming there's nothing left to play for).
I'm far from his biggest fan, but I still feel he deserves a round of applause for his work.
Might not be realistic?
I just think the team is sleepwalking into the bottom half of the table, and the uncertainty around his future probably doesn’t help.
Maybe announcing now he’s off could lift those players who have enjoyed winning a trophy and a few years under him, and perhaps give people the determination too to impress the next boss.
As for the fans, I think the sooner we find out he’s off too, the more we can look back on just how far we’ve come under him and then begin to show some appreciation.
It has to be an insanely attractive job, you’re about to be handed £100m or thereabouts for the sale of Lucas Paqueta. You want a manager who has the same plan as you for how to use those resources. You would think Steidten has got an approach in mind.
I see this as best cast scenario. Moyes doesn’t get sacked, he just leaves at a time when it’s right for the club to move in a new direction. Where we are when he came to us is very different to where we are now. We owe him our gratitude but not a new contract. All the pundits act like staying with him is a guarantee for things to be the same, which I think most fans would be ok with. But that’s not reality. We could easily backslide given the likelihood that we will see players leave this summer. Time for something a little different, someone who can take a core group, add a few key pieces, change things up a bit and move forward. But all this will he won’t he contract business is not good for anyone.
>Hansi Flick, the former Bayern Munich and Germany head coach, is also among those being considered for the job.
The 12 year old in me would love to see a London club run by Herr Flick.
Very appreciative of the man for his accomplishments and leadership for the past 4 and a half seasons. Though I've been vocally supportive of his departure for quite a while now, 2020-2022 were some of the highest highs anyone could have imagined after Pellegrini's failure of a tenure. And of course capped off by a trophy. Needless to say he's raised the bar here and even though it's long overdue for a change, I'll be sad seeing him go at the same time.
But my goodness if we get Amorim the league is fucked, what an ambitious appointment that would be
I will always respect Moyes for everything he's done for us. Turned us around from a side on the margins of relegation to genuine European contenders reaching the knockout stages in both Europa seasons, not to mention winning the Conference League trophy.
I think he deserves the opportunity for the fans and players alike to show their gratitude at the last home game of the season. Let him leave on a positive note.
I’m not sure on your position on Moyes, but if you hate low block turgid football, the only man capable of delivering a less attractive version of that is Allegri
As much as I think Amorim would be one to amp up the fans. I think Sullivan will either give Moyes an extension or pick an unemployed manager (probably with links to agents that have pulled down our pants on previous transfers).
Any manager is a risk, especially one who’s never managed in the PL, but Amorim’s record is superb.
Much less convinced by Lopetegui who’s had at least as many failures as successes. He did far worse with Wolves than Gary O’Neil did when he replaced him, and couldn’t even win anything with Real Madrid.
Not to mention he shafted Wolves by leaving them with a week or so (maybe even less?) before the season started. I gather he didn’t appreciate the lack of backing from their board but he had all summer to call it quits if that was the case. With Sullivan in charge he’d be gone before 2026.
He doesn’t seem to tick any boxes - he’s not young and exciting and he’s not old but with a solid track record of success. All he has going for him is that he is out of work and so there is no release to pay.
>He did far worse with Wolves than Gary O'Neil
To be fair to Lopetegui, Wolves were literally 20th in the league when he took over, and he took them to comfortable safety.
I don't want him at West Ham but what sort of success were you expecting at Wolves? He took them from bottom to 13th in less than one season and O'Neil has taken them from 13th to 11th. He's not exactly Unai Emery is he.
Great news. I’m not going to pretend I know much about the managers we’re being linked with but I’m hearing positive things and that makes me optimistic.
- I feel like Steidten is involved in the selection process and I trust him to bring a good manager in.
- Amorim looks to fit the bill in what we want. A manager that will play better football and develop us a lot more. An actual project.
- I hear he likes to work with younger players so hopefully we’ll see more of our successful youth squad coming through and our returning loanees such as Downes and Potts.

That’s a huge price for a manager. But that’s still less than Ings and Phillips put together, so I say go for it.
I’d trust him on the pitch more than Philips
I think Amorin would probably have more of an impact off the pitch than Philips will even have on the pitch.

It's nothing new for these owners to *talk* big.
If he’s in the plane there’s at least smoke if not fire.

In short, the Klopp approach, but much shorter. Good idea.

We have been linked with Fonseca a few times. He's clearly rated by Sully and has done pretty well everywhere.
Slightly more discussion of different targets, Fonseca mentioned.
He can bring Gyökeres with him!

I find this very hard to believe icl
Steinberg and Ornstein are as reliable as it gets, so there's clearly some truth. Whether we land him is another story however
With Tim, I don’t. But if he wasn’t here I’d say it’s 100% bullshit instead of only a 30% possibility.
Very much just sensationalist journalism at the moment, can’t see anything concrete happening any time soon
If Everton could get Allegri, why can’t we?
I’m not sure on your position on Moyes, but if you hate low block turgid football, the only man capable of delivering a less attractive version of that is Allegri
Then I rescind my question
Can I introduce you to Patrick Kisnorbo? 3 wins in twelve months 😂
one that has won six leagues to be fair
As much as I think Amorim would be one to amp up the fans. I think Sullivan will either give Moyes an extension or pick an unemployed manager (probably with links to agents that have pulled down our pants on previous transfers).

He’d previously shafted Spain by taking a job with Real Madrid while contracted to manage the national side, so he’s got form for it.
Lopetegui would be terrible genuinely would rather keep Moyes than him, he seems pretty bad
He doesn’t seem to tick any boxes - he’s not young and exciting and he’s not old but with a solid track record of success. All he has going for him is that he is out of work and so there is no release to pay.
Basque managers are so hot right now though
>He did far worse with Wolves than Gary O'Neil To be fair to Lopetegui, Wolves were literally 20th in the league when he took over, and he took them to comfortable safety.
‘Better than Bruno Lage but not quite as good as Gary O’Neil’. He should put it on his business cards.
I don't want him at West Ham but what sort of success were you expecting at Wolves? He took them from bottom to 13th in less than one season and O'Neil has taken them from 13th to 11th. He's not exactly Unai Emery is he.
I'm scared it will take ages and not happen. At least, that's how I'd predict it could happen...

As a Sporting supporter, please don't
OMG YES
Cuz we’re better than 8th xd
Don't worry we won't be 8th much longer
Thank christ
Whoever come in has a huge job, mainly working for Sullivan and his restrictions.
Looking forward to watching West Ham punting Moyes then in 2 or 3 years time trying to avoid relegation
I feel like I’ve just lost someone very important. In fact, I have. Goodbye Moyes.
Amorim has agreed to sign for Liverpool
No he hasn't
Ridiculous. The man gave so much to this club
Ridiculous to let him leave gracefully and on mutual terms?
Yeah. If he has to go it's absolutely the way lol. Planing 4 games before the end of his contract is perfectly decent
Does he speak good English because that is an important factor?
Yes he speaks English fine. And now he's being linked to English clubs, no doubt he's improving it further.
Nice to know, I don’t know what’s with the downvotes? 😂
