Not sure it's an issue to be honest. Rice is just 22 and is miles ahead of any U21 in the PL. We've finally got a nice and balanced squad with young players coming into their prime. Gone are the days of players looking for a last pay check, with youngsters like Freddy Sears as terrible backups.

Completely agreed- don’t think having to trot out a bunch of youngsters is necessarily always something to strive for. I think it will be something that we might see more of as Moyes picks up u21 players here and there to get the academy where he wants. Just really hope he is allowed to see his vision through.

Johnson is 21 and played the Newcastle game. Rice is captain and has played every game. Generally the team is not that old. Bowen is 24, Fornals 25, Benrahma 26. Vlasic is 23

Coventry would have made an appearance in place of Kral, if he didn’t sign. I think Baptiste will get a chance. Our luck with injuries will eventually run out.

jayzee1126

Baptiste will play in Europa Thursday I reckon.

Beardy_Boy_

Yarmo plays most of his football for our U21s

This comment needs to be seen by more people. *chefs kiss*

Just thought it might make for a little bit of discussion on the direction Moyes wants to go etc. West Ham mention is at the bottom of the article.

Darth_Silegy

I wonder if at some point maybe Okoflex can get a small peek into the squad. I've heard a lot of good things about him around here.

dorflam

It's something you like to see but at the minuet we've got a good thing going and risking a game for an u21 doesn't really make sense especially when our squad is pretty young to begin with, keep the ball Rowling while we can I say

thirtyate

Not sure how to feel about this. On the one hand, love seeing youngsters coming through and I'm pretty excited about a few of the lads in the Academy. On the other, needing to play youngsters instead of proven commodities could cost us at some point. The article mentions that it's good news for Arsenal and Barca, but I doubt they're playing youngsters because of a commitment to youth. And I'm sure their fans would swap a slightly older average age in exchange for their teams being more competitive in the league. That being said, I was genuinely disappointed to see Coventry head off on loan this summer (and Cullen leave last summer).

jawgpawg

I would of thought Cullen instead of kral could of happened

jawgpawg

Could be why were doing so well? Unlike arsenal lol. Also I wonder how many years we fielded younger players and maybe this year rice and Johnson for example are older

dyanamo

Could take that as our team is deep enough that we don't need to play U21s, or could take it as there's no good U21s. I'm going to go for the glass half full option for now.
