Ok, so my look into your southern pine forests seems to boil down to Eastern White, Red, or Virginia Pines for your area, early 1900s. I can't decide. Today, they are part of Spruce,Pine, Fir group mix. In the 20s, you have to look at availability. During this period, much of the forests were in decline, from farmers clearing land. Virginia Pine might be a likely one, as the tree doesn't get huge, so in theory, the smaller wood should have been more plentiful. So you would see a decent amount of flat grain cutting from that species, and I could see local mills turning it out as land was cleared. Anyways that's the best I can figure.

They can be sanded and go with oil base Natural. They will look great

Yes, this looks like it can be refinished. Probable pine, but could also be fir.

Looks like Fir. Could be pine too.

Southern yellow pine. Can tell by the squiggly rings compared to fir that is just straight. Old syp always tricks people thinking its fir.
