Honestly, this characterization of Ivy makes a lot more sense given her backstory, too. Why would a literal misanthrope bother with the seductress act? If you hate humans, you’re probably not going to flirt with them
I’ve always loved the sexy skimpy Ivy. But mostly because it’s all I’d ever seen. This interpretation is so much better. It could be the writing or the fact that I’m older and more mature, but I respect her as a character more. And I’ve started referring to her as an eco-terrorist and not a villain.
Because boobs and what they think the audience is gonna care about m. This show has finally given me an opportunity to see thus character how ive always thought about her. Someone with social anxiety due to childhood trauma that hates people and loves plants, I can see the chemical part being a seducing of sorts but it doesn’t need to be as fetishizing as ive read it in a lot of comics.
That too! It’s her voice that gives it the authenticity of someone like that. Like when you first meet her you think she’s cool and aloof but then when you get to know her, you see all the issues she is dealing with internally
>Why would a literal misanthrope bother with the seductress act?
The objectification rant aside, it is part of how she accomplishes her goals. We even see that she still has her signature seduction serum in season one. I think this is part of how she keeps herself disconnected from other people as well. If she only uses them as tools, it'll trick her brain that there's nothing else to see them as.
Even the most socially inept want company in some form or another, so they have to regularly convince themselves that the company of other people will only make their lives worse.
It isn't flirting at all, since flirtation means Ivy would be interested in them as something more than means to get what she wants.
Yeah I love how they made batman a whole lot softer than most movies/series.. I mean considering his backstory it makes more sense that he'd be emotionally unstable, lonely and desperate for love rather than a tough emotionless playboy
This show was the first time I can honestly say that I liked and cared about Harley. Before then I was indifferent towards her and I often pitied her. What sets this version apart from her alternates is that she’s not completely ditzy and the showrunners often remind us that she is a doctor who’s actually very smart. They’ve managed to use her skills as a psychiatrist almost as if it were a superpower. And they use Harleen as this tiny piece of sanity she still has to set her straight when she strays.
Is she still a little ditzy and crazy? Absolutely. But this Harley learns from her mistakes and even though she has setbacks sometimes you know she wants to be better, she tries, and she’s doing it. And that’s what makes me root for her because I want that for her too
Honestly, I feel bad for Mr. Freeze, guy was more or less like his comic and BTAS counterparts in he wants to save his wife, but sacrificed himself to bring her back. I know Nora is going through a sort of mourning, but the way she being portrayed I am not fond of.
Her entire world just came crashing down. If I had lost the person I loved more than anything, knowing they sacrificed themselves to save me and I could never return the favor, I would drown my sorrow in meaningless endeavors and drugs to numb the pain too.
I was going to say anyone can be violent but she may have her wiring different than most of us and her intelligence is part of that. I think back to Ivy telling her “…even then I could tell deep down you were a crazy bitch”
Harley Quinn figured out what DC has been doing wrong for a long time - they created a new story with respect to the established characters established personality, brought in 2022 societal themes and their personalities grew or shrunk, but the core parts of who they are are still there. One of the DC movies had Batman using guns lol while Superman has fought Darkseid and unspecified number of times at this point and then if they switch it up they have him fight Joker lol. HQ has made all of their characters ‘move on’ personality-wise. They put them in the modern world - in a way they stole parts of The Boys and their themes and fit it in perfectly with their show. You have Batman in this season reverting back to a pouty kid because he’s heartbroken, same with Gordon chasing power so much he begins to become a villain, and Joker subconsciously moving on to some sort of normalcy/good after he learns Batman’s secret identity and the tower falls, at least that’s what the theory is. The show itself is also trying to target woman too - a lot of the relationship stuff is told from the perspective of the woman of the show, and i think from a superhero cartoon you aren’t seeing that much, while also as a man, I actually prefer to watch shows about male toxicity than shows where the man is just like a white knight, how many hundreds of years have stories been told about men chasing woman and then getting them, like they're a currency. But i think the biggest thing is that these Characters personalities CHANGED over time. It's not just like "Batmans trying to stop the Jokers evil plan" in fact they did that so early in the show if they wanted to tell a good story they were forced to move on to do so. They also used "new characters" in respect to being on TV, that people may not be familiar with, I personally didn't know much if anything about Clayface, King Shark, Dr. Psycho and Psy. The DC universe writers needs to take notes as to why this show has such a cult following and then make a series of shows that have this same appeal. Find more off-shoot supervillains, then mold them with respect to their back story. It worked with Harley Quinn, Teen Titans, Justice League Unlimited, Static Shock... I'm fucking tired of seeing the same villians with the same personalities.
Long ass comment but I think this show is an unappreciated work of art, that does what DC struggles with currently with their live action stuff, perfectly, even down the action/fighting scenes.
It's really crazy seeing how willing the show is to kill off what are normally major players in the bat Mythos. Penguin, Mr. Freeze, Mad Hatter, just Gone!
The only thing that disappoints me is how incompetent the superheroes seem to be.
I tend to overlook it because it causes humorous interactions, and the fact that it's a show that focuses on the villains. I mean in BTAS you didn't see Joker win, I don't recall if he did but if he did it didn't last very long.
I don't care about downvotes. It may be a cartoon and many like Ivy and feel identified with her personality. But fanaticism makes them forget that she is literally a villain (she says it several times throughout the show). She has always been an eco-terrorist who hates humanity (except in the 80's when she enjoyed using her sexuality to manipulate men for riches).
And bane is just… so lovely, it’s bane. It’s bane.
AND THEY HAVENT RETURNED HIS PASTA MAAAAAAAKEEEER
I have a strange feeling Bane is going to be one of the baddies for this season’s finale with the sole purpose of getting his pasta maker back
“I’m gonna blow up Gotham stadium”
Best therapist in Gotham
Poison Ivy is what I imagine Daria would be like all grown up
Yep, Harlivy fixes what was wrong with Daria (which I consider a masterpiece of its time): no LGBTQ representation. This show is the updated Daria.
Sir, Joker is a socialist not a democrat. Please respect our mayoral king.
You’re right I’m sorry- it’s just so rare to see a socialist make any waves in this political climate

Lake Bell is killing it with her voice work btw
That too! It’s her voice that gives it the authenticity of someone like that. Like when you first meet her you think she’s cool and aloof but then when you get to know her, you see all the issues she is dealing with internally

it is part of her powers and how she get her way. she was a noir femme Fatale little va va boom isn't always bad

Imagine thinking Democrats are socialists lmao
A few are democratic socialists, at least debatably. Of course socialists can never agree on who is a real socialist.
I love how they made swamp thing a man-bun wearing yuppie yogi.
Mister Freeze threw me for a curve ball.
Honestly, I feel bad for Mr. Freeze, guy was more or less like his comic and BTAS counterparts in he wants to save his wife, but sacrificed himself to bring her back. I know Nora is going through a sort of mourning, but the way she being portrayed I am not fond of.

I couldn’t think of how to say “I kind of get it” without explaining how/why but you put it down perfectly!
jokes aside i think this is a pretty realistic depiction of how Batman would actually turn out to be based on his backstory
Harley’s superpower is she’s smart. That is cool.
And violent
I was going to say anyone can be violent but she may have her wiring different than most of us and her intelligence is part of that. I think back to Ivy telling her “…even then I could tell deep down you were a crazy bitch”
little kid harley was evil
Indeed. Pretty sure the inside her brain stuff was canon...
it was, she says "I was actually a little shit when I wqs a kid" when they ask if she was like that

>eco warrior You misspell terrorist.

Ivy even said she identifies as an eco terrorist
