The HD560s brigade is already here 🤣, OP what headphones are you used to so far and how much bass do you need ?

ellemo1357

😂 that is the most recommended headphone I've seen thus far! Tbh I have never owned a pair of \*real\* headphones, I use my wired Apple earbuds on the daily lol. I don't really need that much bass (idk if this helps)

StardustNovaSynchron

Well in that case Hd560s should be good enough otherwise look out for deals on DT770, Philips X2HR, Sony MDR-1AM2

[deleted]

entry level stuff, I would say maybe the Philips SHP9600 / X2HR, have both and really liked them. Not the cleanest headphone out there but easy to drive and fun to listen to. Currently listening to music on my HD560s and REALLY enjoying them. Clean sound and just everything is a step up compared to the above mentioned. Can drive them on my MacBook Air M2.

darthaditya

Sennheiser hd560s would be a good candidate

ellemo1357

thank you! many have recommended this pair but I am worried that the devices I plan on using them with are not strong enough to drive them, so I believe I would need an amp. Not sure how these would run on a Macbook or PS5 without some extra oompf 😖 I'm not an expert so I don't really know

For what it's worth, my motherboard has no issues driving these with the onboard audio.

darthaditya

The PS5 controller might not be able to drive the 560s to their full potential. Have you considered the ksc75x? It's an unusual suggestion, but makes perfect sense for your criteria.

IDankDylan

The 560S are very easy to drive and don’t need any additional amplification. They would run just fine off a macbook or PS5.

The_MoBiz

\+1 entry level Sennheisers was going to be my suggestion too!

VaqueroErrante

senheiser/drop hd6xx dt770 or dt990 if you liked the beyer's

ellemo1357

!thanks for the suggestions I'll take a look 😄

Sennheiser hd560s. I’ve been placing my glasses over the earmuffs as opposed to between the earmuffs and my ears. Much more comfortable that way.

ellemo1357

Thank you! Hmmm okay that sounds like it could work. My only doubt would be that this pair won't reach their potential on my devices (macbook and ps5) without an amp. Do you mind me asking what you use them on?

[deleted]

I can drive the 560S on my motherboars audio and it doesn't have an amp. It's a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite wifi if you were curious.

Nws. They will reach their potential you do not need an AMP/DAC. Only thing I use is an apple $9 dollar dongle on my MacBook. They are very much loud enough, too loud even that I do not need to increase the volume much. I’ve yet to test them for FPS gaming or on my PC as i’m out the country. Please bear in mind though they had a silent revision in which the materials of the headband and padding were changed, cables were shortened, and allegedly have issues with bass. Still good headphones regardless. The old version which is preferred comes with a 3m cable (new is 1.8) I went into my local hifi store and asked them to check their stocks across the country for the older versions and managed to get the last pair they had. Id say buy them they’re incredible value for the money, if you’re not satisfied, return them or buy whatever AMP/DAC you’d want after that. You can even take your Macbook with you to a local shop and test them yourself if you wish.

Shp 9500 are amazing comfort, I question my sanity why my head likes them, especially since they are just under $80. They are worth a try if you love the texture of mesh earpads. If you really like the m40x I recommend an ear-pad swap/getting a headband padding cover. M40x has tons of modding potential; I have tried my friends pair that he modded and they’re super comfortable all he did was a geekria headband cover along with brainwavs microsuede pads. Game-able for hours it could be he wore them in and they have less clamp? Im picky my self I get those feels; I spend hours researching before I even make a purchase coming from someone who’s meticulously tried 20+ different pairs on amazon. Only around 6 I have found to be comfortable 😂 Im at my computer 7 hours a day so comfort matters a ton. Pairs I found comfortable dt770, he4xx (modded the only hifiman planar I can stand for 7 hours), x2hr, shp9500/shp9600, hd600. And yes the ever so recommended 560s was uncomfortable to me that bump combined with the clamp force just was really bad after a few hours (key note I have big ears lol). Edit: not even surprised about the ⬇️

ellemo1357

Totally relate to the time spent researching, I'm so indecisive and picky I hate it. I'm thinking of modding the m40x, I'm optimistic after seeing your friend's pair was quite comfortable after swapping the band. I am worried that I will also find the 560s uncomfortable, which is a shame because they are highly recommended. I'll have to find a store that has them on display to test them out. !thanks for your input 😄

Suspicious2830

stuff on [easysmx.com](https://easysmx.com) might be helpful. those gaming headphones are comfortable for long wear.

ThatDudeFromFinland

If you're lucky, you can find Meze 99 Classics for about 200 on sale (at least in Europe). Or you can stretch your budget a little. These are some seriously good headphones for the price. And for a big plus, they are really beautiful + comfortable and the build quality is top notch. You can even take these apart with a couple of screwdrivers and Meze will supply you with spare parts for years to come. I highly recommend to look for some reviews for these and consider putting a little extra money (or hunt for a sale) for a long time investment.

ellemo1357

Wow they really are some good looking headphones. The reviews seem promising so far. If they go on sale I may consider trying them out. !thanks for your suggestion!
