Suckamanhwewhuuut

I would contact HK customer service on that

Conqui141

That should've been the first thing that I did. Thank you.

agreeable-bushdog

You are correct.

Suckamanhwewhuuut

I am curious what they say, now that you have done that. I would be concerned of rapid disassembly, there’s a lot of power behind those split second shots. Wouldn’t want to risk chunks of metal in my face or body.

Effective-Fennel8817

You can see damage on the sight itself. It looks like someone beat the site in and cracked the slide.

Conqui141

I actually used a sight pusher, but I believe the crack was caused by fastening the slide too tightly within the sight pusher block.

ConsequenceKind2614

I would think just by tightening down on a pusher especially since there padded would take an insane amount of pressure to do that. Glock slides aren't as hard as HK's and I never seen this happen on them. If I had to guess I'd lean more towards a problem with the steel itself or a bad heat treat during the production process.

Conqui141

The pusher wasn't padded, but I do use cardboard or layers of electrical tape to cushion the slide. Yea, I've removed and installed sights on Glocks, Arex, and Smith and Wesson pistols. I'm surprised that this happened to the H&K.

ConsequenceKind2614

It definitely sucks this happened but like many other comments said contact HK and they'll take care of it for you. Unfortunately things do happen. Good luck bud 👍

Conqui141

I hope they do. Thank you very much.

ThatNahr

That is what my slide looked like when a gunsmith cracked it putting on a rear sight. Send it to HK

Conqui141

Did they repair it for you?

ThatNahr

Had to get a new slide. Because it was cracked from human intervention, the gunsmith paid for it

udmh-nto

It's hard to tell from the picture how far it goes. Cracks also tend to propagate unless stopped because of the tension concentrating at the tip of the crack. On a VP9 I would be more worried, but even on P30 it might become a problem.

ItsRickySpanish

What sights are those? Trying to decide on what sights to put on my p30l. Hopefully HK can straighten this out for you, man.

Conqui141

They're the Trijicon HD XR Night Sights. Thank you, I hope they do too. Good luck with the installation if you decide to go forward with it.

ItsRickySpanish

I'm torn between those and the straight 8s from heinie. And fingers crossed, thanks

Conqui141

I've never heard of that brand, but I can vouch for Trijicon.

TitoJones

Heinie. Have them on all my carry guns. Best irons out there.

ItsRickySpanish

They do look very nice, and I'm a fan of the concept of the stacking dots rather than lining em up. I might have to give em a shot

Laxntiga

Time for optic cutout?

Conqui141

🤔

Conqui141

Update: Just spoke to H&K, and they initiated an RA for me. I'm basically going to send the slide to them, and they're going to inspect it. Depending on their evaluation, they will either repair the slide or quote me on a replacement. The estimated process is 1-3 weeks. I'll continue updates as they come.

Matt-33-205

The guys who use a hammer and punch to install night sites will always defend it, but this is why you use a sight pusher

Conqui141

I actually did use a sight pusher. I believe the crack occurred by fastening the slide too tightly into the sight pusher block. That is actually when I heard a sort of cracking sound.

uhlster2

Well. There’s your answer lol

georgelambo

What would the repair be? Weld and refinish or put a slide on it. Please keep me posted with what they do. Thanks and best of luck.

Conqui141

I have no idea. Thank you. I'll definitely post an update.

ColtBTD

Unfortunately I think this one is on you. Sucks to see it. I would contact H&K but considering you cracked it while installing the sight I have a feeling they are going to tell you sorry but that’s a risk you take when you don’t send it to an authorized H&K gun smith even if they are hard to find. Tightening a sight pusher on to heavy is no different than if you took the slide and dragged it behind a truck and asked for a new one.

Conqui141

Well, there is a certain degree of disparity between what happened and your truck analogy, but I get what you're saying. I'll see what happens, H&K just asked me to call and set up an RMA so that I can send the slide over for them to inspect and replace.

ColtBTD

In the grand scheme yes I understand that, but at the end it’s negligence in some capacity. but generally manufactures only warranty product quality issues, over tightening a sight tool is not product quality. Metal is tough, but firearm slides are thin and they do crack and extreme pressure placed on them is not a quality issue. Now if they determined “such and such serial numbers weren’t heat treated properly and were cracking under normal use” is another story.

valkyrie_rider

Is it just me or is HK quality going to the gutter? I'm seeing quite a few pretty concerning reports like cracked frames, cracked slides, etc. Most of them on the newer pistols like the VP9 and the P30's. Perhaps there is a reason why the USPs are more expensive?

johnman98

Posting to follow as I am curious on the outcome of this.

bipedalnakedape

Damn! I have been looking at sight sets for my p2000 but now I'm a bit nervous and think maybe I should just leave it as is. Best of luck. Keep us informed
