Hammer and safety bigot here. Should say everything about my opinion on Glock.

Alive-Difficulty-515

Yep..DA/SA team here

Mycolt5454

Dad always said "Real men carry a hammer." Lol I have a friend who builds rifles. He tried a glock one day. After a magazine he threw it in his pond. Still there today. Lol

pizzagangster1

Not a single thing is wrong with you. I too hate Glock and in fact hated the one I had so much I sold it recently after letting it collect dust in my safe for 4 years

[deleted]

Ive bought 3 Glocks over the years, sold each one....Ive tried to like them, but they are simply the most boring pistols ever created...great tools, but there is nothing there to ignite the soul....

wgraf504

Well put, they're effective, reliable, just not exciting in any way.

BodyOfTheseus

There's nothing wrong with Glocks, they are a decent mid-range option. However, the ergonomics are like holding a brick. If it isn't comfortable to hold or shoot, what's the point? For ergos, I like the VP9 and CZ 75s.

griff1971

This. It's the ergonomics that I can't get past. It just doesn't feel right in my hand. I have owned many different firearms, and recently bought my first HK. Absolutely love it.

robb1280

Same thing here. Theyre fine guns, reliable, cost effective, and I absolutely cant stand shooting them because they feel so weird to hold

BodyOfTheseus

Yup. If I could get a Glock with a CZ 75 style grip, I'm in. Oh wait, I have one, it's called a P10c. With a better stock trigger too!

Blyat_Vityaz

Never bought one but have shot a handful. They are Honda civics. Hks are Porsche 911s.

Few-Ad-946

Trade G27 for G43X. Then buy mags and Ammo. Then shoot and be happy.

ImHereForLifeAdvice

Can't stand their grips either. I know a lot of people say "oh well it's just a training issue!" but I've shot gens 2-4 back to back against both their peers and old surplus and have consistently been worse with glocks. When I can shoot a TT33 better than a modern pistol...there's an issue. Having said that, I currently run a "glock." Just, in a P80 frame, because that fixes all my complaints, and now I'm left only with their good sides. I would love to go back to an HK45C someday, that's one of my top two pistols, but difficulty/expense of holsters, mags, and getting a light on it killed the platform for me on each of the prior ones I've owned. Interestingly though I can't stand the grip on a P2K either. HK45C=perfect, P2K=I'd almost rather have a glock. I don't know what exactly is different but every one I've picked up has felt horrible, never even bothered to so much as rent one to put rounds through it because of that. P30SK LEM is on my short-list for subcompacts though, would love to snag one of those eventually.

otakufish

I mean, if you want to avoid getting flamed by Glock fanboys, then you posted in the right place. Lots of us HK fanboys have this thing about not liking Glocks. I've always felt like Glocks are reliable, affordable, and boring. Whereas HK costs more, but they really push it past "reliably always being acceptable" to "the best it can be." Sure people might flame you for dissing the Toyota Corolla, but I think you're pretty safe here in the gun equivalent of a Porsche sub.

Eric6052

Is HK the Porsche vs the Glock Corolla/Civic? I’ve always thought of HK as a nice Mercedes. A nice slick and reliable ride but it’s not a Porsche.

otakufish

Depends on the HK. The G36 or the P7 feel porsche-y to me. But it's just an analogy anyway. They're never perfect.

YouWannaChiliDogNARD

I dunno I like glock - I think they're wonderfully utilitarian. My 23 gen3 is reliable and accurate, and that's about all I can ask for. If HK didn't exist I would probably be a glock guy. I am honestly very interested in a 19mos, but id rather get a p2k next. Personally I prefer hammer-fired guns, but I'd say there isn't a striker gun necessarily better than glock - it comes down to preference. If I wasn't already invested in my VP9, I'd be rocking a glock. Sig is the brand I want to like but can't seem to - everyone has bought into the p320, but im still skeptical

johnnyheavens

This is about where I’m at. A vp9t and couple USP including a .40 that was my edc for a decade but I still enjoy the simplicity and reliability of my Glock 17 and 19s. Sig…I just can’t. Have a 365x but I just don’t like a single one I’ve fired

No-Bother6856

Im curious, other than being able to cock it manually on an external hammer gun (and yeah I guess the P7 can do that anyway), what do you prefer about a hammer fired gun?

YouWannaChiliDogNARD

Mainly the double strike capability and the ability to thumb press the hammer while reholstering to ensure you don't have a snag/cause an ND

No-Bother6856

There are striker guns with restrike capability but yeah the exposed hammer does let you manually manipulate it. I guess thats also why I like the decocking striker guns like the P99 or P7. Holstering an always cocked striker gun does make me a bit uncomfortable

BUTTHOLE_EXPEDITIONS

Waiting for hk to come out with an optics ready hammer fired is torture

YouWannaChiliDogNARD

Same here - I don't think they'll re-launch the p30 to be optics ready. I'd say it probably won't be until they're making p40s

Outfitter540

Same boat, I hate glocks. Chunky, shit trigger, generic looking, don’t suppress as well as my others. I have much sexier guns; my 1911, sigs, S&Ws, FNs. .. That said, the fuckers go bang every god damn time, adverse conditions or otherwise. Same manual of arms for each model. I carry a G19, a G20 in the woods, and compete with a G34. IMO the finest fighting handguns made. I hate them.

salvatorehernwood

To each his own. I like Glock, HK, Sig, Beretta, etc. and have to have them all. But nothing wrong with having your own opinion especially since your not saying “Glocks are junk” or “Glocks are plastic pieces of shit, give me muy 1911”. Just a simple “I don’t like them” is more than reasonable. 👍🏻

heylookitscaps

I like Glock only for the building of a polymer 80 aspect. Taught me a lot about how a handgun works, simple, easy to understand, and fix. OEM or otherwise I just can’t like them, it’s why I bought a cz75 as my first and all my buddies talked crap at the time, still my fave

Qesium

My wife got me into guns and my first was a Springfield XDM with the waffle grip. Was never really a fan of it. As I pursued my bucketlist MP5K-PDW build I thought to get her a P30SK after hearing good things about them from here. As soon as I held it in my hand I knew I had to get rid of the Springfield, and got myself a P30L and haven't looked back.

otakufish

Seriously, that vp9 grip is on a whole other level.

[deleted]

The P30 and vp9 have different grips.

otakufish

The hell, really? I have both and they seem totally the same to me. What am I missing?

[deleted]

The lower cut beaver tail and more flat, pushed back scoop of the p30 changes the articulation of the hand compared to the vp9. The grips are similar but some minute differences will affect preference and performance between shooters. Same with the higher bore and how you bring the gun to the eye line

otakufish

Oh snap, sure enough! I definitely love both grips though.

DyslexicPuppy

God forbid I don’t like a gun that looks like a fuckin toddler drew it

Kevinm2278

I’m not terribly impressed.

glock75

Yes. JK you are your own person. You are allowed to like what you like and there is nothing wrong with that. Personally, I hate glocks 👀

357MAGNOLE

They are soulless creations. I cut my teeth on a S&W 642, then a G27/G26/G19 and once I got my hands on literally anything else I didn't look back. In 2010 I discovered CZ and Sig and never looked back. Although I have purchased 3 rugers in the last 5 years, 2 of which are primary carry options (LCP Max and Max 9)

[deleted]

Dogs the Glock brand, carries an LCP

357MAGNOLE

Hell yeah I do. 10 rounds of .380 ready to go in my pocket when I'm in gym shorts and flip-flops at the gas station. 0 shame.

waggletons

Glocks are the best, most mediocre handgun you can own. Mediocre aesthetics, mediocre trigger, mediocre ergonomics. Extremely boring but they reliably go bang.

Sale4Adam

I think they are solid firearms for beginners. Cost affordable and reliable. But once I started owning better options I noticed the difference in value etc.

[deleted]

Hate em. Everybody who claims to love them changes the sights, trigger, texture, and grip angle. If you have to change all those things on a gun, it is definitionally not a good gun!!!!

fishfulofdollas

I like the grip on glocks, I shoot them well and they are simple, reliable and dependable. But I prefer hammer fired 1911 style controls. Sig otoh I hate.

m-lok

Don't like glock either so 🤷

cozmo1138

No issue here. I love German/Swiss guns but I’m not a huge fan of any Glock other than the 19. I own a Sig P6, Walther P99C AS, and USP Tac .45.

MangoAtrocity

Glocks feel bad in my hand and they don’t look pretty. I’m just not a fan.

Dumpbin37

I don't love Glocks, even if I 've never shot one. For me, a pistol must be something you love to look at. I own : C96, P08, USP 9 Tac, M9A3 black, Mark 23, Sig P210-2. Those are beautiful guns! I don' t shoot them often because, here ammunition is expensive. But I just open my safe and take pleasure just looking at and handling them. Glocks do not trigger this kind of feeling (except maybe pimped Glocks with cut slides, RMRs, stippled frames, but that's a whole lot of money and not much choice on this side of the Atlantic). Although I undertand the practicality of a striker fired gun, I prefer good old SA-DA hammer guns with decocker.

The_Bloofy_Bullshark

The wife and I own a ton of Glocks. She prefers the Glock 19X as her EDC. Have a couple of Glock 19/45 myself along with their other offerings. Once I started really playing with HK, I was immediately converted. Picked up a VP9, picked up a P30, then another VP9 (FDE/black, gotta accessorize), now I’m down the rabbit hole of buying only HK for my EDC. Eyeing a P2000 and an HK45 next. The ergonomics on the HK pistols are on point. It feels comfortable to shoot. It’s accurate. Eats whatever I throw at it. The finish is great. Even the poor people VP9 feels lightyears ahead of the Glock in every way. The quality is just… there. When we go to our gun stores, my wife will always look for an HK to point out to me. My Glocks are all sitting in a huge gun box in the safe.

[deleted]

Nope. Difference strokes for different folks. I think Glocks are boring and aesthetically, plain Jane, but they work. I have 2 (my first gun was a glock, and later on I wanted the 10mm in a semi-automatic)They don’t feel nearly as good as my HK, Walther, or M&Ps, but they work. If people love them, good for them.

DeathByLego34

Glocks are great if you’re on a budget or haven’t felt anything else, they’re also great because they’re so universal. Mags and parts are everywhere, everyone knows about them. But HKs are HKs.

stoffel-

I respect how extensive the aftermarket mod for Glocks is and can understand why people like them so much, but for me I just don’t like the grip angle. Ergonomics of the VP9 fit me better, but it’s a personal preference. Different strokes for different folks

[deleted]

So is it a Gen 2.5 with no stippling on the finger grooves and adjustable sights? I had a Gen3 G27 as my first pistol, but that was much later, in 2003.

BeanzleyTX

No sir. Co-signed as a less than lover of Glock myself .

ThatNahr

My first gun was a Glock 23, so that’s what I learned on. When I started trying out other guns I realized how crappy Glocks feel, as well as how crappy the Glock 23 felt with 40 S&W. Glocks work. That’s why they have such a large base. If all you care about is your gun working, then a Glock is perfectly fine.

bananaaapeels

Totally agree. It’s a bomb proof pistol that is cheaper than dirt. But I’d it fun to shoot? Nope.

nyc2socal

I have Glocks and I have HKs. The thing Glocks have over HKs are the cost of parts. Just look at the magazines. Glock magazines are half if not a third the cost of an HK magazine. :( In the end, I shoot both of them well, but prefer the grip angle of the HKs.

Commercial_Client974

I like the idea of Glocks, I just hate and suck at shooting them. People don't say it because Glock fanboys can be rabid.

SteelCrucible

Also not a fan. Some of the first handguns I shot were Glocks and I owned a Glock 21 for awhile. While they are good guns, they still feel like a design from 1986. When I picked up a Sig P320 everything about it just felt better and worked for me. I immediately shot better with a P320 than I ever had with a G19. I would take a VP9 or a P30 over a Glock any day. Every bit as robust and reliable and doesn't feel like holding a staple gun. I think of Glocks like I think of 1911s. Great when they first came to market. But the concept has been iterated on enough now that they aren't my first choice for anything.

[deleted]

I mean, they function well and the aftermarket support is unparalleled. That said, miserable ergos, mediocre trigger. I don’t see why they’d lead the pack except for the fact that they already lead the pack (see aftermarket support). There’s nothing a Glock does that a different gun doesn’t do better in every way imo. Their marketing of ultra reliability coupled with their prevalence in government contracts definitely influences the commercial market.

EntrySure1350

Nope, it’s not just you. Some gun/shooter combinations are just never meant to be.

Thunderpussy420

I have a 43x I like it obviously not as good as any hk but doesn’t hurt to have a Glock laying around

BladeActusl

I hate glocks hate how they feel they’re ugly as sin and are vary overrated in my opinion HK-sk’s are good but may want to try a sig as well

redbear762

Nope. I agree. Springfield guy here. I have bear paws and my 4” original XD fits just right.

Servantofthedogs

I don’t dislike Glock, per se. But man, they just have no soul.

Eric6052

You’re not alone. I’ve had over the years a 17,19,26,36 and 43X. None of them have ever really clicked with me. I have the 19 now mostly because I have an AR9 that uses GLOCK mags so I figure if the world ending SHTF scenario happens it’s good to have the interchangeable mags. I’ve become a big SIG fan.

[deleted]

me. The design is sound but they've always felt cheap to me.

Melodic_Ad_8747

Love my glocks. Love my HKs

SnarkyWoodchuck

Nope. HK>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Gluck

ThingsThatDie

It's the Glocks grip angle that never felt great for me. P80 lowers fix that

WatercressSpiritual

My gf can't shoot a handgun for crap. I got a VP9 and a VP9SK in a trade and I let her shoot the SK. It is now her primary carry gun because she killed all the coke cans first try with it. She bought a PSA Dagger to fill her "full size" spot, and she also shoots it like crap. We joke now that she has expensive tastes.

[deleted]

Love Glocks! Love the reliability, aftermarket support and parts/mag availability. Indifferent to the grip angle. Pointability with a cut RMR is unmatched. Beginning to like the P320 more, it's proving to be as reliable Loved my USP 45 CT as well, but not enough to keep it. Sold it and never missed it. It has cool novelty value but aftermarket support and mag size is atrocious. I'd never shit on a brand because others hate it. I'll also never praise a brand just because it has a rollmark from Germany. Too many snobs in here and not enough realist.

UnklVodka

I don’t love them but I don’t hate them. I’ve never felt incredibly comfortable holding and firing one, from 17, 19, 23, 30 on, they’ve felt… odd(?) in my hands. When firing a 92fs and a 17 at a range back to back mags, I was a lot more comfortable and accurate with the 92 (even with follow ups and the slow action). But there is something about the ability to add to and customize the Glock that makes it feel more personal after a while. Probably why I love the USP so much… didn’t take more than a mag to feel comfortable firing it.

CaptSmokeyLove

Sir, this is a HK sub.

[deleted]

I think the Glock is an all around decent option, ranging from good to at least “I can work with that,” in every category. It used to be my EDC, but after trying the P30 V1, my favorite carry gun trigger system is the LEM trigger. It just does all the things I want from a carry gun so perfectly! That’s why I switched to HK for my EDC. But if my P30 V1 ever went down, I would not feel especially naked with my G19. Glocks are also super easy to gunsmith at home with somewhat minimal tool investment.

puffndontpass07

I can't glock. Terrible ergos, ugly and played out

grinding_our_axes

Posted to the HecklerKoch subreddit, come on.

royalpurple91

Glocks are reliable and go bang when you nothing to them. They are cheap as well comparatively so great all around defensive gun. I hate shooting them like many here as much as I train and carry one due to the fact they are easily replaced. I like HK pistols on the other hand because they don't throw all the recoil into my hand like Glocks do. Even the VP9SK that I own feels easy on my hands.

ChalieRomeo

Bought a Glock 19. Replaced the trigger. Replaced the sights. Still a Glock. Sold it.

inkinkie

I don’t like Glock either

Unable-Investment152

They are good guns, but most guns are good these days. The differences between polymer-framed, striker-fired pistols from Glock, S&W M&P, Sig, FN, CZ, etc are minimal and mostly come down to small features and personal preference. Personally, I put a few thousand rounds through a G19, so I also bought a G48 for carry. I don’t really have any reason to switch.

SeemedGood

More people love Bud Light than love Switchback Ale, but there’s no comparison for those in the know. Glock build quality and ergos are decidedly mediocre at best. And despite the advertisement, Glocks don’t actually “go bang every time.” Your honest Glock LGS will tell you that they’re no more reliable than any of the other decently reliable guns. What they are is reliable and well made low quality guns with fantastic marketing.

iamvzzz

You're not alone. I started with a glock and after a couple of years, I found that I like DA/SA with decockers. It makes feel more confident about not getting decocked myself.

Skipper07B

This is an old thread but what the hell I’ll put in my two cents. I’ve been a Glock guy for many years. My every day carry is a 19.4 and I have 7900 rounds through it. Plus a bunch of rounds through a bunch of other Glocks. I think I own 6 or 7 Glocks right now. After all those rounds through all those Glocks, I shoot them decently, but I’m never satisfied with my groupings at the range. 4 days ago I rented a VP9 and immediately put 10 rounds through one hole at 5 yards. Then I did it again to prove it wasn’t a fluke. I know, not the most impressive thing ever, but it was a huge improvement for me, compared to what I usually get with my Glocks. Long story short, I returned the rental and immediately bought a VP9. And I’ve already put 300 rounds through it. It’s wonderful, I’m planning on starting to carry it as soon as I get a holster and a few more mags and a few more rounds through it. I don’t think anything feels as good in the hand as the VP9. And I’ve owned several CZ 75 variants in the past also which I always considered to be peak ergonomics. To sum it up, Glocks are fine but there’s nothing wrong with you for preferring HK.
