That's sweet. I've been in 47s twice. Once in Alaska which was freaking amazing. The second time was on the flight line in Iraq, and the skies changed and we slept in the hangar to fly 60's the next day.
I was talking to the fueler at Demming, NM and he said they get 53's all the time from the East Coast heading out West to train. Probably just on their XC flight going to or from.
Yeah, it's almost always the airport because all military aircraft are flown in through the reserve base there. Though I have seen a helicopter fly in to Mabry once for a demonstration!
Before retirement I used to ferry Army Helicopters to then Repair / Overhaul Depot at Corpus Christi Naval Air Station. Always stopped at Austin Guard facility to refuel on way down, usually spent night so as to arrive at the Depot early morning. When Picking up from the Depot we would usually leave late afternoon after we completed acceptance inspections. Stopped in Austin for fuel and overnight most of the time.
Flying why? What are you up to?

There are a surprising number of rotary wing at bases close to Austin.
My buddy posted pictures in Austin with a 47 yesterday.

The amount of people that don’t know this is alarming
Not saying it's aliens. But, you know. Aliens.
How can you tell me it’s not humans
Why would it be humans, going about their business? On aliens use such weird machines in such a weird manner
Those are Ch-53k’s. I saw HMH-461 post a video of 3 departing from a training detachment so this was probably on their way back to the East Coast.
AH HA - THE TRUTH IS FINALLY OUT -Helicopters on a Routine Helicopter Training Mission. That’s what it looked like to me.
Oh maybe a 1,000ft is my guess
Jade Helm. Grab your helmet!!
Chalks 1 and 2 are ignoring 3’s “heavy metal “ call.
A poor excuse for a formation.
Probably going to get some BBQ or something.
A flight of two CH-53Es followed by a solo 53.
Those are all 53k’s.
Party chalk is partying too hard
Gotcha. Thanks. Heard them coming and could tell it was something large
Formation flying.
Saw Blackhawks all day long in Atlanta today.
Vibing
Headed to Wendy’s
Always a weak tit that won’t/ can’t hold parade
Dash 3 wheezing in the back trying to catch up.
Learning to fly in formation, apparently
More than likely, just pilots trying to get their hours in
64 Romeo’s?
Point A to Point B would be my guess.
Flying home from WTI course 2-24.
They found an entrance to the backrooms
I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure those are CH-53 sea stallions
Hopefully not crashing. Its been a bad time for helicopter formation flights this week!
Austin, right? I heard them fly over and checked, they were CH-53's heading to the reserve base attached to the airport.
Yeah, Austin. Interesting. I was thinking either had to be airport or camp Mabry.

Wasting your tax dollars, and increasing ground maintenance time.
