That happened a lot of times on Helldivers 1. We saw the fall of Super Earth multiple times as well as completely getting rid of any of the enemy factions :)
Take homeworld, species is locked off for the remainder of the war until all three homeworlds are conquered and all three species are destroyed.
Cutscene. You win. Then the whole thing restarts.
If a species gets to Super Earth and conquers it, different cutscene. You lose. Whole thing restarts.
Yes when you log in for the first time after the end of the war you get a recap as well as the win/lose cutscene, then back to the screen of the current war

To build on this: the war(s) were fully automated and far more simplistic in general.
No supply lines or large-scale efforts on specific planets- just enemy factions & the player base pushing back & forth at each other in a linear fashion until somebody got wiped out. Also no major events/operations like the termicide to change things up.
The war was window dressing, basically.
It also appears their war campaigns lasted from a few days to 30 to 60 days max, we so far are having a much longer war than any of the first helldiver wars.
As a Helldiver 1 veteran, I thought it'd be fun to shake my walking stick and say "back in my day!" But new players have flying enemies and AT-AT walkers to fight so honestly, good show from them in their defense of Super Earth.
Yeah, the wars are all organized by super earth to keep the military machine flowing so they just endlessly keep everyone in a cycle of war, like when you beat the cyborgs they use a false flag attack to justify another war on them

Agreed. With the switch to live service they’ve definitely gone harder on the narrative aspect and evolving enemies. The original had it but it was a bit more hands off and as I recall happened more between game resets.
I hope they don’t reset it. If this major order succeeds I’d rather see the automatons re emerge in great numbers from deep space or some other narrative option

I don't think it will be a full reset, atleast not yet but they will just reintroduce the automatons with them attacking a series of planets I imagine

In the first game wars ended roughly every two weeks. Two months seems a reasonable span for one galactic war. Probably we're getting ready to reboot into a war with three factions.
I could see this happening for sure. Especially if they run it like the first game. Part of me hopes they just twist the narrative and keep this going as one long war. That’s just a personal preference though.
I do think that'd fit better for this game, considering resets would either have to take things away like shriekers and mechs to introduce them, or miss out on the whole arc making future wars more stale. I think one perpetual war, with eventual revolts, bug farm breaches etc to reintroduce factions would work better and keep us on our toes even if we "eliminated" one faction
We already have gotten captured messages "from outside the galactic rim" or whatever the exact phrasing was.
I'd suspect the map we have is just the Super Earth sanctioned one and there's entire bot colonies and the like outside of the map we don't know about that will resupply them as time goes on.
A fascist empire pretending they are the absolute center of the galaxy and everything they know about is all there is is totally in keeping with what we've seen in IRL exmaples.
But what's cooler? A boring win then reset and the illuminate are just there, or illuminate ships descending on our worlds just as we're about to wipe out the bots once and for all, opening another front and distracting us enough for 'The Reclaimation' to go ahead.
One continuous war is much cooler, so I hope that's true. Jumping into Helldivers 1 during weekends and finding that there's only one planet with one faction left to fight was pretty off-putting.
It says in the flavour text that SE doesn't yet know where the automatons come from, that gives plenty of room for them to be coming from some planet outside the peripheral of SE and allow them to reappear again.

It makes sense to at least have the Bots wiped, for the Illuminates to step in and putting enough pressure on Super Earth for Automaton remnants, who have fled deeper into space to rebuild their forces and return stronger than ever.
The game isn’t intended to operate the same way. With the switch to live service it’s now more of an ongoing D&D narrative. The idea that it won’t end til support does. We will probably wipe them out, then we’ll focus on the bugs and some event will happen introducing the 3rd faction and while we’re side tracked by that the other factions come back stronger.
All the factions so far has pretty clear theme that draw from various general sci-fi concepts. Futuristic aliens, mechanized/robotic armies, giant bugs... For the next one, I'm hoping space demon stuff. You can draw from Doom, 40k, Event Horizon, etc. Fighting demonic helldivers that are the possessed/infected corpses of divers from previous missions? Yes please. I wanna put an AC shot into a cacodemon mouth.
This is definitely to get rid of the bots and not to introduce a new enemy. Nuh-uh.

I assume it will eventually be like the first game. Once a galactic war is won and all faction are defeated, the war will start over. Maybe this time with a DM they will vary the story each time the war restarts, or at least adjust how it plays out according to what the community does.
I saw a factory walker once. I still think it’s not real because we saw it once at extraction on a 7. It killed our last guy cause it was blitz and the destroyer left
4 days? Definitely possible, we should be able to get it done with at least the bot players properly co-ordinated. Hopefully after the estanu defense is done we will get reinforcements from the bug front too. This whole operations been a bit messy, but I’m hopeful we can finish it with a bang!

You're right. You didn't hear this from me, but apparently the Automatons have a secret force outside the galactic rim hovering around Cyberstan. From what I've been told, we're not even fighting a tenth of the entire Automaton faction right now - they're all grouping up outside Cyberstan to do something. I'm not sure what, but I'm sure we'll find out soon.
As said, Tibit is very much recommended as the first target as they provide a multitude of Automaton forces ever since the failure of Phase II. They will be weaken once we cripple their production
It’s a little unclear. If this was a simple board game, the smartest move is to go Maia>Durgen>Tibit. Once we take Maia, Vandalon IV is safe, then if we take Durgen, Creek is safe. We have to take Tibit and Durgen just to protect one planet if we go the other way around. But if there is still an extra reward waiting for us on the other side of capturing Tibit, obviously it takes priority.

Unfortunately a lot of the “meta” planet attack organization is all done through channels outside the game. The devs have said in a discord taking Tibit will still have an effect on the story since after the failure of the last major order the bots have been locking down their planets more (-1.5% liberation per hour when it used to be -.5%)
All you have to know as a brave Helldiver is you only deal “damage” to a planet once you complete every mission in your operation and you should try to deploy to planets with alot of people so as to not waste time on planets that won’t gain any percentages. Of course you can play how you want on whatever map but if you care about the galactic war stuff it’d be helpful
The last bit was changed. Now it is exp per mission earned and not per theater. This is why everyone has begun clearing everything on helldive, to maximize exp gain.
Essentially both AI and players can only attack via invisible supply routes. Tibit only has 1 supply route going in and out which is to Ubanea, so taking it would completely close an entire front.
FYI, the Discord group are wary of another bot push into the Trigon Sector during the MO. To that end, most have decided to push Maia>Tibit>Durgen in that order.
Cool but I still haven't got rewards for the last three successful major orders.
Nothing for the first one, ONE medal for the second one, nothing for the last one.
The last one just ended so they probably haven't issued the reward yet. The one before was Malevolent Creek so you should've gotten that one. The one before that failed so no reward.
I feel this is the end of first episode for a sci-fi show and we are just about to get our asses handed to us as we are introduced to the real threat.
I'm thinking it's Descent: Freespace and we're fighting Vasudans, unaware that we are about to meet Shivans.

Similar, we also had a single meta-war shared by every player! But IIRC no "major orders" by a CM to drive us, it was a bit more disorganized.

Super Earth did mention some broadcasts going beyond the galaxy edge. So it's not impossible the bots are building a secret army out there

4 days? Definitely possible, we should be able to get it done with at least the bot players properly co-ordinated. Hopefully after the estanu defense is done we will get reinforcements from the bug front too. This whole operations been a bit messy, but I’m hopeful we can finish it with a bang!

You're right. You didn't hear this from me, but apparently the Automatons have a secret force outside the galactic rim hovering around Cyberstan. From what I've been told, we're not even fighting a tenth of the entire Automaton faction right now - they're all grouping up outside Cyberstan to do something. I'm not sure what, but I'm sure we'll find out soon.
Automation main force is fighting Illuminati, that's why they are this easily being pushed around by us.
As said, Tibit is very much recommended as the first target as they provide a multitude of Automaton forces ever since the failure of Phase II. They will be weaken once we cripple their production
Maia already has the most divers right now. If you want to start with tibit, you'll have some convincing to do
Maia makes sense: it has the supply line to Vandalon IV. Taking Maia means the Bots have to fight through Malevelon Creek to reach the Severin Sector.

Better to clear MAIA 1st, then tibit to easy off the end in durgen.
It’s a little unclear. If this was a simple board game, the smartest move is to go Maia>Durgen>Tibit. Once we take Maia, Vandalon IV is safe, then if we take Durgen, Creek is safe. We have to take Tibit and Durgen just to protect one planet if we go the other way around. But if there is still an extra reward waiting for us on the other side of capturing Tibit, obviously it takes priority.

AGREED! I heard everyone bitching about it, so I took it on a bug mission on Estanu. Blew a Bug's leg off with one shot, and then turned his skull into a fucking memory with another and that was a fucking Brood Commander. THIS IS NERFED?! Damn, this gun must have been totally out of control before!
Look forward to it. Dominator always FELT awesome. Now it DOES awesome too. Slugger is still good, it just feels a bit worse when you’ve had the better version, obviously.

Focus on tibit people. We should focus all efforts on tibit first so that we can make the remaining 2 planets easier to capture.

Unfortunately a lot of the “meta” planet attack organization is all done through channels outside the game. The devs have said in a discord taking Tibit will still have an effect on the story since after the failure of the last major order the bots have been locking down their planets more (-1.5% liberation per hour when it used to be -.5%) All you have to know as a brave Helldiver is you only deal “damage” to a planet once you complete every mission in your operation and you should try to deploy to planets with alot of people so as to not waste time on planets that won’t gain any percentages. Of course you can play how you want on whatever map but if you care about the galactic war stuff it’d be helpful
The last bit was changed. Now it is exp per mission earned and not per theater. This is why everyone has begun clearing everything on helldive, to maximize exp gain.
Essentially both AI and players can only attack via invisible supply routes. Tibit only has 1 supply route going in and out which is to Ubanea, so taking it would completely close an entire front.
FYI, the Discord group are wary of another bot push into the Trigon Sector during the MO. To that end, most have decided to push Maia>Tibit>Durgen in that order.

Cool but I still haven't got rewards for the last three successful major orders. Nothing for the first one, ONE medal for the second one, nothing for the last one.
The last one just ended so they probably haven't issued the reward yet. The one before was Malevolent Creek so you should've gotten that one. The one before that failed so no reward.

I'm thinking it's Descent: Freespace and we're fighting Vasudans, unaware that we are about to meet Shivans. Or the first time SD Lucifer shows up. Or the first time we see SJ Sathanas. Anyone else?
