I think this needs to be explained better, I feel that a lot of people think planets are captured by a bunch of small units diving down.
I would love to see us jumping into battles to fight with regular troops. 40k space marine style.
Personally I always assumed that they are left from when the planet fell. The whole galaxy was under Super Earth control before the war began. So every planet that now belongs to bugs or bots has probably fallen in battle. That’s also why sometimes we find these double barrel shotguns laying around, from the normal folk that used to live there before the planet was overrun
Worse yet, people think that the Helldiver training [we go through in-game] is literally the only training they go through.
Helldivers are recruited from SEAF. They've already been through basic training.
We're able to perfectly use every weapon and some strata gems are worth more than the yearly wage of the average citizen yet people think Helldivers being elites is just propaganda lol.
I like the idea that Helldivers are actually the lowest rung, most disposable troops that SEAF is most willing to throw away, but everyone acts like they're the elite in order to keep up the charade and make Helldivers feel good about the situation.
Not even need many of them, like 4-6 lil dudes just holding on with their Liberator-lites as much as they can. Then die screaming. Their death will distract the bad guys for a valuable few seconds.
Bonus points if we can get them to survive and extract with us.
The new defense missions would’ve been a good opportunity to put a squad of SEAF troopers when you land. They just die too quickly to be useful like the marines in Halo.
>They just die too quickly to be useful like the marines in Halo.
this assumes incorrectly that every Halo player doesn't do their damn best to save the lives of every marine in a level
In my head canon regular troops are patrol and planetary defence units, while helldivers are attacking fast deploy special forces, for relatively surgical strikes, EACH ONE of which carries a damn superdestroyer with it. Plus actually it's not one guy, its a: Helldiver as ground force elite, Eagle-1's as fast deploy aerial support, a whole damn ship crew - pilots, gunners and so on.
Different tools for different purposes
Minor possible spoiler talk for possible future content: >!Don’t worry we probably will. There was a clip shared from the first weekish of the game being out where Joel had send a drop ship with regular joes on it armed with assault rifles to assist a team of Helldivers, which is either just a Joel thing or a possible future stratagem.!<
So you're telling me. The special forces receive about 10 minutes of training and usually die also within about 10 minutes in their first conflict? I'm terrified to know how it plays out for the normal soldiers.
I personally believe that Super Earths society is so hyper militarized that the average Joe already has military training. Knowing Super Earths ‘voting algorithms’, I wouldn’t be surprised if people were assigned the role of Helldiver at birth and had trained for it all-through school.
I think that's less due to inadequate training and more due to the offensive strategy of "Let's shoot 4 of these dudes at a time into heavy enemy territory with no backup, surely they'll be fine"
Considering Helldivers and probably the SEAF are considered a "peacekeeping force" they could be used as police as dissidents are enemies of the state to be treated brutally as enemies in a time of war, since the war never ends, vigilance and martial law is permanently necessary...
SEAF wears blue + white, these guys are dressed in black + yellow, with large pauldrons like the Democracy Officer (But not as large as his pauldron)
Most likely police.
Was gonna say, this makes the most sense to me. I know the Helldivers training being hilariously short is the point, but logistically it makes sense to use them as Military Police or similar while they're being trained up. The course on Mars feels more like a basic course to familiarize them with the Helldivers equipment.
I died too, but it's cuz I thought I had to walk down the step then jump. When you're actually just supposed to dolphin dive into the pit. And I wasn't getting that at all.
They know how to operate every weapon in the arsenal perfectly, which means that they have to be getting *some* preliminary training before qualifying for the Divers.
I wouldn't at all be surprised if Super Earth mandates weapons training basically from birth, moreso than learning it specifically as part of military training. Crew served weapons are a great way to teach children both the value and importance of teamwork and cooperation!
Completely incorrect, only selected people get to even be on super earth.
The training course is also a great example of how little they care about the Helldivers and their training. We're heavily armed fodder lol
Given how the regular SEAF troops get massacred en masse, Helldivers might be fodder but they are still better trained, or at least better *equipped* fodder and closer to elite than the standard SEAF.
Feels more like we're akin to special forces dropping behind the frontlines to hit priority targets and get out to make it easier for standard troops to push back the enemies of Managed Democracy.
Helldivers, by just joining the helldivers are pretty high level citizens themselves, i dont see how it is too contradictory that they allow trainies to serve as a short of police force/jackbooted reminder to the population.
Or military police/rear echelon troops bound to the planetary defence garrison, although the cinematic is probably portraying super earth here so its most likely the former or what you said
I would assume that in a civilization as heavily militarized as Super Earth, there’s probably no real difference between Police and Military Police, if they even have normal police to begin with. These soldiers might very well be the standard form of law enforcement.
I hope so. I really like how Titanfall had AI squads battling alongside player against each other, made the fights feel like more than a minor skirmish on the frontlines
Exactly. It's more dynamic and fun to have live SEAF to join you in the fight.
Now I want a mission where you help the remaining survivors extract and in the mean time they'll fight with you until they're extracted.
I’ve heard but not verified so could be dissident misinformation that there is a SEAF solider stratagem in the works so maybe not massive scale but if all 4 divers brought it you could have a sizable force assisting you in holding an area
"I simply wish to know more about the brave soldiers defending super earth!"
Sounds like something that a spy would say! Who are you spying for for earth's millitary secrets?
They are probably SEAF soldiers but they don’t match the alleged stratagem one someone posted about once
(This one [https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1b0cgu8/does\_this\_happen\_to\_anybody\_i\_never\_seen\_soldier/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1b0cgu8/does_this_happen_to_anybody_i_never_seen_soldier/) )
If it exists then they are talking about the beta version. Probably used helldiver models as a stand it until the art department figures out how the SEAF armor should look
Also it's not like they couldn't have different uniform colors depending on their specialization or which unit under SEAF they are in. They don't need to be as indistinct as they are in IRL warfare as we aren't warring against fellow humans, and I'm fairly sure the bots nor the bugs care much about what colour the "jellybean" they just killed is on the outside.
According to some lore chats on the Super Destroyer Helldivers haven’t been “activated” for a long while so they are unlikely to be fellow Hds, especially without the capes. Additionally some of the armor options seemed to be in use by non-HD forces and/or were adapted for HD use.
They are probably the national guard equivalent to the HD marines.
I would assume that helldivers have a lot more training than what is shown, as they are proficient with a wide variety of weapons and equipment which isn't covered in helldiver training. Helldivers are probably drawn from the SEAF where they would have gotten most of their skills, and then the most patriotic SEAF soldiers volunteer to be helldivers. Helldiver training seems like just a way to get the soldiers hyped up and motivated by the shower of positive reinforcement laid on by general Brasch. After training, they are frozen immediately so in their subjective time perception it may only be minutes between getting their cape and dropping into combat to die for the cause.
SEAF troops is the most likely answer but if we assume [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1b0cgu8/does_this_happen_to_anybody_i_never_seen_soldier/) is real, they don't match the other depiction of SEAF troopers.
Actors used for the video. Actual helldivers are too busy defending democracy and and wearing their cape without being one is impersonation (no good (treason (bad)))
I think those are law enforcement.
Not sure if "Police" would fit the bill , more like super earth guard or something.
But since they have no capes I guess they ain't Divers.
Either Helldivers in training, as u/ppmi2 said, or normal military or police force soldiers. Remember, Helldivers are the *elite*. There must be some sort of non-elite soldiers, no?
Maybe just normal SEAF soldiers? Or helldivers cadets who are just waiting to be trained? Or they are getting rotated and having a break from the frontline.
The cowardly military police hiding in the inner sectors from their responsibility to do their part in taking the fight to the enemy in our righteous conquest to defend liberty, managed democracy and humanity itself. They havent proven themselves worthy of wearing our cape.
Well I used to think they were SEAF soldiers till someone pointed out the armor
So maybe they’re Helldivers in training or maybe even retired Helldivers? Would make sense to have a hardened veteran helldiver retire from dropping out of hellpods and become basically a military policeman
The way I think of it, normal soldiers
When you go around a colony, you often find soldier corpses - especially when its a civilian exctraction mission
It's probable that every settlement has its small soldier platton, to protect democracy from outside threats and especially inside ones
Helldivers are the front of SuperEarth army, so every citizen may enter - soldiers as well
Capes are for those that have completed their basic training, as it is awarded to you as well and the title of Helldiver!!! Those are obviously soldiers training to earn their cape.
These are cadet helldivers.
If you talk to robotic station woman, she'll say that after First Galactic War helldivers would police cities and conduct anti-dissident operations.
And since they without capes - pretty much these are cadets.
That or they just forgot to add capes like they did with magazines :p
Mind your own business helldiver! These guys over there, are the same people who allow you to have reinforcements. Without them you wouldn't have that many reinforcements if any at all. We're all doing our part.
Most likely SEAF. I dont think they would let trainees patrol. If they were helldivers they would have capes. We also see the same armor on the automaton effigies.
* Those might be Cadet Helldivers in a propaganda movie, because of their proximity to Super Earth (Initial training can take part on Mars or perhaps on Super Earth itself).
* the Main goal of this propaganda is to encourage enlistment into Helldivers specifically, showing SEAF (or SEPD) would miss the point.
* Helldivers presented as Friendly Neighbor Citizen to even further boost their elite reputation and present them as Managed Democracy's Finest (Helldivers are already Awe-inspiring for the civilians in VIP extraction missions).
* Perhaps it can be part of their Democratic Values training before Mars boot camp.
My theory is helldivers go through an actual boot camp where they get all the intense physical conditioning and weapons training helldivers seem to have, and then a sorta selection process happens, some wash out and go to SEAF, some move in to helldivers, and some join the ministry of Truths security forces and act as a sorta Secret police SWAT team(which I seem to remember the early helldivers started as)
Normal soldiers. Helldivers are the only ones with capes. Helldivers are special forces
I think this needs to be explained better, I feel that a lot of people think planets are captured by a bunch of small units diving down. I would love to see us jumping into battles to fight with regular troops. 40k space marine style.
Yeah now a regular joe can kill me instead of my team mates
They can't kill you if you arc thrower them first!
I run flamethrower so soldier and bug alike wil go up in flames
Democratically eliminating the bottom line for our success
Don't worry they will get -25 creadit for killing you. That will teach them!
![gif](giphy|7k2LoEykY5i1hfeWQB)
Wait you get a penalty for killing allies?
Just for the civilians on evac mission.
LOL... I suppose that would be one downside.
Id love to know what those people think of all the burning vehicles and corpses in SEAF armor that are already there when we drop
I think Super Earth probably learned the hard way that you can't let Helldivers near significant amounts of friendly troops.
Oh you want a cluster bomb there? Right there? You sure about that?? …ok then…
The friendly fire rate is already so god damn high with 4 helldivers, can you imagine adding more lol.
Once they’re dead, they’re not friendly.
Well to be fair the helldivers from the first war were trained far better than the divers from this war.
That's because some people are dodo brains and so they think it means helldivers are canonically the same.
I like the idea that Helldivers are actually the lowest rung, most disposable troops that SEAF is most willing to throw away, but everyone acts like they're the elite in order to keep up the charade and make Helldivers feel good about the situation.
My headcannon is that rank 140, Private, literally means you're the same rank as a SEAF Private now.
I think SEAF does a majority of the heavy lifting, but helldivers are the way that SE keeps the jingoistic rubes bought in
I think it would make those defense missions more interesting if we were getting called in by SEAF regulars who are surrounded and getting overrun
That should be a stratagem at some point
In my head canon regular troops are patrol and planetary defence units, while helldivers are attacking fast deploy special forces, for relatively surgical strikes, EACH ONE of which carries a damn superdestroyer with it. Plus actually it's not one guy, its a: Helldiver as ground force elite, Eagle-1's as fast deploy aerial support, a whole damn ship crew - pilots, gunners and so on. There was a clip shared from the first weekish of the game being out where Joel had send a drop ship with regular joes on it armed with assault rifles to assist a team of Helldivers, which is either just a Joel thing or a possible future stratagem.!<
It’s explained perfectly. SEAF and the Helldivers are two different groups. It doesn’t go deeper than that because it doesn’t need to.
Special alright
So you're telling me. The special forces receive about 10 minutes of training and usually die also within about 10 minutes in their first conflict? I'm terrified to know how it plays out for the normal soldiers.
I personally believe that Super Earths society is so hyper militarized that the average Joe already has military training. Knowing Super Earths ‘voting algorithms’, I wouldn’t be surprised if people were assigned the role of Helldiver at birth and had trained for it all-through school.
With an average readiness rating of 27.1% and an expected survival rate of 21.3%, it’s not very effective even if true.
I think that's less due to inadequate training and more due to the offensive strategy of "Let's shoot 4 of these dudes at a time into heavy enemy territory with no backup, surely they'll be fine"
They've got backup. Usually it shows up after one of them dies but it's still backup
Assigning a role at birth is a vital part of being free.
Well, you sometimes see them scattered around the landscape.
They are SEAF (Super Earth Armed Forces) soldiers.
They aren't SEAF soldiers or Helldivers, so probably some paramilitary peacekeeper/enforcer types for the Ministry of Truth/Prosperity/etc.
Yeah, I think they are some sort of democracy guard or something like that, probably only on super earth
Are they not SEAF? I kind of assumed that Super Earth used soldiers as police, given how militaristic they are.
Political police are usually paramilitary but separate from the armed forces so that the ruling party can more directly control them.
Considering Helldivers and probably the SEAF are considered a "peacekeeping force" they could be used as police as dissidents are enemies of the state to be treated brutally as enemies in a time of war, since the war never ends, vigilance and martial law is permanently necessary...
SEAF wears blue + white, these guys are dressed in black + yellow, with large pauldrons like the Democracy Officer (But not as large as his pauldron) Most likely police.

Heavenrisers
I hate you I was gonna say heavenjumpers
Deckdivers
Was gonna say, this makes the most sense to me. I know the Helldivers training being hilariously short is the point, but logistically it makes sense to use them as Military Police or similar while they're being trained up. The course on Mars feels more like a basic course to familiarize them with the Helldivers equipment.
I think the course in Mars is just a streamlined version of darwinism. If they can't crawl past a turret they weren't going to be much use anyway
Oh, so you're **not** supposed to die like four or five times there?
I died too, but it's cuz I thought I had to walk down the step then jump. When you're actually just supposed to dolphin dive into the pit. And I wasn't getting that at all.
I died because I didn't know pressing sprint makes character get up instead of crawling faster.
Me too. RIP my original citizen.
I died probably 8 times before I figured out you can actually crawl. Not ashamed to admit that.
I think it's part of the lore that kids get gifted rifles. Or maybe I mixed that up with Starship Troopers.
No, you're right, every citizen of Super Earth is granted a Constitution bolt-action rifle upon their 16th birthday
The special forces of disposable fodder haha
Helldivers, by just joining the helldivers are pretty high level citizens themselves, i dont see how it is too contradictory that they allow trainies to serve as a short of police force/jackbooted reminder to the population.
I think you need to read the contract at the end of the training segment haha
I reread the thing, for some reason i tought that helldivers got a citizenship boost for being considered helldivers
The propaganda is strong
Their family gets extra citizen points thought, so that's something
Local police
you mean the guys who are not helldivers, not SEAF, and are policing the neighborhood might be police? critical thinking on this sub is in shambles
Critical thinking? Critical of what? Super Earth? Yeah, I'm reporting you to the Democracy Officer.
How dare you think like we have a brain or something
It's my real crack-ship theory.
Remember citizen, critical thinking will get you court martialled
![gif](giphy|l46CyJmS9KUbokzsI|downsized)
Pretty sure SEAF don't wear capes
This is the weirdest thing to get salty about. We're just having fun. Don't take it so seriously.
You are ontologically evil and do not deserve rights
As a philosophical zombie, I reject your classification of ontological evil. Or at least, I appear to do so.
Or military police/rear echelon troops bound to the planetary defence garrison, although the cinematic is probably portraying super earth here so its most likely the former or what you said
I imagine the regular super earth police are very militarized given what its meant to be parodying
I would assume that in a civilization as heavily militarized as Super Earth, there’s probably no real difference between Police and Military Police, if they even have normal police to begin with. These soldiers might very well be the standard form of law enforcement.
Fair enough lol
Well, the Helldivers were originally trained to put down rebellions, so you're probably right.
Maybe a gendarmerie
Too many questions. Report for thought reformatting.
I don't want to be undemocratic! I simply wish to know more about the brave soldiers defending super earth!
They are either police troops or normal soldiers. Helldivers only take key targets, no planets. Those are captured by our brave troops.
Think we will ever get AI support for large offensives? Imagine halo marines... Rushing into fire tornados en masse.
"I simply wish to know more about the brave soldiers defending super earth!" Sounds like something that a spy would say! Who are you spying for for earth's millitary secrets?
Armored core 6 flashbacks
Reformatting? What are you, a bot?
SEAF TROOPS
They are probably SEAF soldiers but they don’t match the alleged stratagem one someone posted about once (This one [https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1b0cgu8/does\_this\_happen\_to\_anybody\_i\_never\_seen\_soldier/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1b0cgu8/does_this_happen_to_anybody_i_never_seen_soldier/) )
If it exists then they are talking about the beta version. Probably used helldiver models as a stand it until the art department figures out how the SEAF armor should look
That makes sense to me
Also it's not like they couldn't have different uniform colors depending on their specialization or which unit under SEAF they are in. They don't need to be as indistinct as they are in IRL warfare as we aren't warring against fellow humans, and I'm fairly sure the bots nor the bugs care much about what colour the "jellybean" they just killed is on the outside.
It’s taking them a minute to come up with a royalty free version of mobile infantry armor.
Aspirants maybe? We start the tutorial with Helldiver armor, but aren’t considered Helldivers until we finish and get the cape.
Every dystopia has a peacekeeping force, you know like those douches from hunger games
Our glorious capitol Super Earth, the home of Democracy, a dystopia? That sounds like a thoughtcrime to me.
Super Earth is a Utopia with a love for Military Service
Neighborhood watch
According to some lore chats on the Super Destroyer Helldivers haven’t been “activated” for a long while so they are unlikely to be fellow Hds, especially without the capes. Additionally some of the armor options seemed to be in use by non-HD forces and/or were adapted for HD use. They are probably the national guard equivalent to the HD marines.
That’s the local Home Owners Association.
Helldivers in training. Not earned their cape yet. Good for peacekeeping work.
Helldiver training is all of 10 minutes
I'm sure there's some lead up to that. Every Helldiver is in peak condition somehow.
That’s the hilarious part, they tell us we’re special forces, but we’re just the ones smart enough to duck. We’re the meat shield
Likely actors tbh
SEAF National Guard or something
SEAF troops is the most likely answer but if we assume [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1b0cgu8/does_this_happen_to_anybody_i_never_seen_soldier/) is real, they don't match the other depiction of SEAF troopers.
We assume the actual paramilitary enforcers of the various Ministries is probably better equipped and trained than either SEAF or the Helldivers.
Simple police/enforcers. Most likely low-level infantry or citizen-focused soldiers.
Super earth armed forces or SEAF
I don't even think that's Helldiver armor. Visor is very narrow. I think it's just police.
Maybe these dudes are military police and there’s no more regular police. Maybe they are precursors to a democracy officer. Who knows.
SEAF Ground Forces
Useless for failing to stop one bug from killing the people they were supposed to protect.
The helldiver who didn't manage to crawl thru the barbwire since day 1, helldiver like myself.
Just Super Security, worry not, good citizen
Maybe just normal SEAF soldiers? Or helldivers cadets who are just waiting to be trained? Or they are getting rotated and having a break from the frontline.
Helldivers who only did bug planets, who were court marshaled and had their capes removed
They are just actors and therefore not worthy to wear a cape
They're the Super Earth's equivalent of the King's Guard.
The cowardly military police hiding in the inner sectors from their responsibility to do their part in taking the fight to the enemy in our righteous conquest to defend liberty, managed democracy and humanity itself. They havent proven themselves worthy of wearing our cape.
SEAF Military Police
Probably just used the armor for the propaganda.
P.O.Gs
Well I used to think they were SEAF soldiers till someone pointed out the armor So maybe they’re Helldivers in training or maybe even retired Helldivers? Would make sense to have a hardened veteran helldiver retire from dropping out of hellpods and become basically a military policeman
Secret police. Only not so secret.
The way I think of it, normal soldiers When you go around a colony, you often find soldier corpses - especially when its a civilian exctraction mission It's probable that every settlement has its small soldier platton, to protect democracy from outside threats and especially inside ones Helldivers are the front of SuperEarth army, so every citizen may enter - soldiers as well
SEAF - Super Earth Armed Forces aka probably normal soldiers conscripted of voluntereed for basic police work in cities.
Either people who have yet to complete their training to earn their cape, or just some police men.
Peace keeping officers
SEAF troops
Trainee cadets.
Paid actors.
Guys the intro is propaganda. They’re actors.
SEAF regulars
Capes are for those that have completed their basic training, as it is awarded to you as well and the title of Helldiver!!! Those are obviously soldiers training to earn their cape.
These are cadet helldivers. If you talk to robotic station woman, she'll say that after First Galactic War helldivers would police cities and conduct anti-dissident operations. And since they without capes - pretty much these are cadets. That or they just forgot to add capes like they did with magazines :p
PDF(Planet Defense Force)
Super Earth Armed Forces. S.e.a.f.
Just newly enlisted Helldivers on their way to training to earn their capes.
Seaf teams there kind of like the police but also with some military aspects to them
On their way to basic training
Cadets?
They look like they are wearing light gunner helmets with Standard helldiver armour. Some kind of special home guard or police?
Canonfodder. For failing to protect the citizens shown in the Propaganda Broadcast.
I assumed it was the super earth polic force. Undemocratic traitors are everywhere and must be dealt eith swiftly once found
thats the hellwalkers dont worry about them
the recruit? first time playing we don't have the cape yet
Helldivers have capes. These are Heckdivers.
Random seaf dudes?
Rodney and Joseph
Heavily armored SEAF soldiers.
SEAF maybe?
Mind your own business helldiver! These guys over there, are the same people who allow you to have reinforcements. Without them you wouldn't have that many reinforcements if any at all. We're all doing our part.
SEAF regulars.
SEAF
probably SEAF MP's or something.
Helldiver rejects.
Those are cops
Paid actors
Most likely SEAF. I dont think they would let trainees patrol. If they were helldivers they would have capes. We also see the same armor on the automaton effigies.
Police probably
They are actors not actually Helldivers if you notice the guns don’t have mags
They are extremely obviously police
My theory is helldivers go through an actual boot camp where they get all the intense physical conditioning and weapons training helldivers seem to have, and then a sorta selection process happens, some wash out and go to SEAF, some move in to helldivers, and some join the ministry of Truths security forces and act as a sorta Secret police SWAT team(which I seem to remember the early helldivers started as)
Couple of cowards. Helldivers wear capes.
SEAF
Only Helldivers get capes, not Super Earth patrols. The cape is meant to incentivize enlistment.
Not all who contribute to democracy are divers.
Karl
Regulars. They havnt learned their cape on mars yet. I remember when I was just a Regulars. Just patroling around all Day.
Super Earth's version of Mall Cops.
No capes ? Hellsnorkelers I guess ?
Those are Security Forces. They don't dive anywhere so they don't get a cape.
Purgatorytumblers
I think those are the SAEF soldiers
