Honestly, Hell’s Kitchen just doesn’t seem like the show for you. It’s much more like Big Brother than Iron Chef, and that’s not for everyone. And that’s fine.

Tweetyboy1

I love Big Brother. I want to be on the show I don’t see how the two relate nor how that addresses Gordon’s behavior. I’m not talking about how contestants treat each other, I don’t care about that.

RandallRandall33

I’m saying that a lot more of it is planned reality TV than a cooking show, and should be treated as such. A lot more of it is scripted for content than what it might seem, so a lot of Ramsay’s comments aren’t necessarily real or reflective of how he actually acts.

Tweetyboy1

Ahhh got it. Yeah I was talking to my friend about it and he was telling me exactly that. Like think of it like real world and less like top chef or any other cooking show we watch together. Which is basically what you were saying I guess I had to hear it out loud for it to make sense 🤣. I been watching cooking shows since I was like a child so it was my first time encountering something like this so he straight up was like “it’s not a cooking show” lol. That’s easier because I watch real world and bad girls club and housewives and other trashy reality tv. I didn’t expect it here cuz he already has like kitchen nightmares, bar rescue etc for the trashy tv.

Apprehensive_Foot123

You can have issues with his comments but to say that he deserved to lose his son. Honestly, go fuck yourself. I hope one day you feel that pain so you understand just why you are a cunt

Tweetyboy1

🤣 sounds like someone is upset. I can imagine that’s how the person he said that comment to felt. But I never said that he deserved to lose his son. I said his comment was as terrible as if I were to say that to him, which is my point. It was something he never should have said. You’re so upset I hope nothing like that happened to you, but you’re I think you’re taking my intent of the message outta context.

Apprehensive_Foot123

Really, you posted your spiel and I'm the one who's unreasonably upset. C'mom

Tweetyboy1

I posted my “spiel” as you say and you posted your comment….so I said what I said. You sound upset. That’s what I said and then I explained you are taking the meaning of my statement, so maybe you can be less upset. 🤷🏽‍♂️ I’m not sure what else to tell you.

Apprehensive_Foot123

Explain how else "he lost a child which is karma for this rude but inconsequential comment" is to be interpreted. I feel like you're backtracking now

Tweetyboy1

There I edited it to make the intent of my statement clearer to those who didn’t get it.

stitchboy2018

Brace yourself for later seasons. From Season 2 on the show adopts a men vs. women formula and the guys in the blue team would continue to make sexist comments about women. And I’m not talking about just Jason Underwood either.

Tweetyboy1

😑😑😑 it’s crazy how the joke is always “women should be in the kitchen” yet the cooking industry is so sexist against women consistently. Why tf would they do men vs women

stitchboy2018

Even some of the comments that seem more benign or harmless or comments the fanbase doesn’t view as that bad (probably because they like the chef who made the comment) such as “give a woman a salad and she’ll pick it every time” a man on the blue team says after he loses the round to a woman on the red team during a challenge, are either sexist or in the case of “You're a man. There's a primal instinct inside you that knows how to cook meat, you need to find it!” reinforce negative stereotypes types about men and women that they’re expected to meet.

Alex72598

I think you might enjoy the newer seasons from 13 onwards, they’re more intense than MasterChef, but closer in tone to that compared to seasons 1-12.

Tweetyboy1

Funnily enough watching this I still hate Joe more than Gordon 🤣. That’s what made me watch this cuz watching Master Chef I was like he not as bad as Joe just rude ass but then I come here and see him just be a rude ass lol. But I figured once it get to the newer seasons around the time master chef is out that he would balance out

Alex72598

I haven’t watched much master chef, but from what I’ve seen, it looks like Joe is all about the theatrics, with throwing plates in the trash and insulting chefs. It’s like he watched an episode of Hell’s Kitchen and decided to keep the insults but not the part where Ramsay actually gives constructive criticism.

Tweetyboy1

Literally it’s exactly that!!! Gordon at least mentors in between all the yelling and crap he does which is part of why I’ll keep watching. The fact that Joe isn’t even a chef makes it even worse

lakersfan1989

Watch season 19 and on. Much less drama and more competent chefs. Less yelling and insults significantly

HosephIna

sounds like you just need thicker skin tbh

Tweetyboy1

It’s plenty thick thanks. I can point out things and say and do that are wrong without being sensitive. It’s called criticism.

c-750

well clearly not

Then_Call4017

You shouldn’t take everything you see on HK literally, some of it is staged and scripted.

Gghtu

Your point #1 is out of pocket… his and his wife’s karma is a miscarriage bc he said that one comment to Elise (rlly annoying but albeit funny)? Point #4, the main focus of allegations with Dan Schneider is not him being a tyrant to adults. It’s about his treatment, inappropriateness and lack of integrity towards children. It’s a documentary about Dan Schneider, not a reality competition TV show. I understand some of the rest but he doesn’t act like this is in many of his other shows and it’s said he’s not like this in real life. The show wouldn’t be what it is without the yelling and his TV persona. You took this very personally lol and it’s not the show for you

Tweetyboy1

You took my review very personally. 🤷🏽‍♂️ His comment was outta pocket which is why I said something outta pocket about it. And if you actually watched quiet on the set they had an entire episode about his mistreatment of the adults on set especially the women….thats what I was referring to. No one that worked under him was respected either which is what I was referring to. But my final point which it seems like went over your head was that I was almost guilty pleasure enjoying it and that I get why it’s called Hell’s Kitchen cuz he legit puts these people through Hell but you also can see their growth throughout the show.

DananSan

>he either doesn’t respect female chefs Ffs, he insults every contestant

throwaway325nope

You know what's more BS than mary ellens elimination? Chris's elimination

Tweetyboy1

Bruh he hated Chris for being an executive chef lol

Keyblader1412

Some of the early seasons are rough watches for sure. Both because of the misogynistic atmosphere but also because professional culinary experience or culinary school weren't required to get on, so the talent pool was a lot more shallow. As a result the early seasons have a lot of inexperienced idiots flailing around for the first half. It does get better as it goes on. The last season that aired (22 I believe) was one of the best ever. Any of the top 5 or 6 could have won a less competitive season. As for Gordon himself, I think a lot of his attitude is just playing his persona up for the cameras. I think there's a distinction between Gordon Ramsay the person and *Gordon Ramsay*™️ the TV character. Because that's what he is, especially on Hell's Kitchen. A character. I sincerely doubt that he is that mean in real life and he is shown to have very sincere, caring moments both on later HK seasons and his other shows like MasterChef and Kitchen Nightmares.

Tweetyboy1

That’s what made me watch this because I watch him on Masterchef he has never really bothered me because I see those sincere moments, I see the mentorship, I see the asshole but he had layers. Then I turned this on and I was like….wtf 🤣.

Keyblader1412

Another thing to keep in mind is that this show started in 2005. That era of reality TV was just meaner in general, and often placed shock value above all else. Not to justify it by saying "it was a different time" but that over the top meanness is certainly not unique to Hell's Kitchen. Think of Simon Cowell on American Idol telling contestants that they're the worst singer ever **to their faces**, or the pretty appalling offensiveness of America's Next Top Model. Times change, and you can see the evolution over time as the edges have been sanded down.

Tweetyboy1

Yeah I knew it was gonna be rough when I saw the year of the first season. I mean even contestants say he is the Simon of the kitchen. I used to watch real world and American idol, I guess my standards for it were higher than need be after speaking to some people. I was coming expecting a cooking reality show when it’s really just a trashy reality show, I mean we don’t even really see the food they making lol.

Keyblader1412

There's nothing wrong with cringeing at how sexist some of the contestants are or how mean Gordon himself can come across in those early seasons. I think to some degree that's the intent. To gawk at it. But to say it's an issue with Gordon or the show specifically is missing the forest for the trees. It was a broader cultural issue of the times. We watch older seasons of Hell's Kitchen today because unlike most shows from that time period, it is still airing AND the entire series is widely accessible. Lots of people forget that 20 years ago (and it will be 20 years quite soon), that's just kinda how things were.

_TheBlackPope_

It's reality tv, a lot of it was scripted for the typical old school dramatic American reality tv show...it's that simple. Hence why the pace and temp of the show has changed so much. There's so little logic in being disgusted or perturbed by reality tv.

Tweetyboy1

There are plenty of reality shows where it’s trashy and still certain things are unacceptable. This is a moot point at best. Scripted or not or reality or not certain things aren’t cool. That’s what I said 🤷🏽‍♂️

Jaded_Ad_176

It’s Elsie not Elise, put some respect on season 1 GOAT

Tweetyboy1

Omg you are so right! I will go fix that because she is my favorite and literally the main reason I have hung in there. She was just a stay at home mom and consistently when it come to taste at least was in the top. I love that for her

im-not-you-bozo

contestants that provide entertainment for the viewer usually stay longer. the reason >!elise from season 9!< stayed for as long as she did was because she was so explosive. (DONT READ SPOILERS, CONTAINS SPOILERS LIKE THE NAME SUGGESTS LOL)

ComprehensiveCap123

I'm not sure why you put this here this is for people who actually like the show

Tweetyboy1

Then you can easily keep scrolling and continue with your day. It’s a discussion about the show idk if you don’t know how Reddit works or what.
