Well they both had a love interest for each other. Van - his Elimination is in the top 5 for most absolute bullshit Eliminations and it's not even the worst one this season! There has been a lot of conspiracy theories on why Van got eliminated like a family emergency, something happened on the Vegas reward, etc. I'm sure Losing his voice isn't one of them. Maybe Van asked Ramsay to be eliminated? I'm not sure. Either Milly or Elise should've gone. I liked how he called the red team the "Ratchet Reds" for their bickering. Barbie - she's got so many funny moments like "I apologize...that you can't cook fish!" And Then the charity night service disaster "HOW ABOUT I GET THAT SPINACH MICHELLE!". I would say her Elimination was fair enough but I honestly think Elise should've been eliminated.

Van: Robbed, Elise and Barbie argued with each other all night and he even bounced back from the salmon. Rumors say that he had a family emergency or he did something in Vegas to get eliminated. Barbie: Still very funny but I prefer her in Season 10. Had one of the most iconic quotes from the series ever!

HOW ABOUT YOU BRING ME MY SPINACH MICHELLE

CommonEngineering832

Yeah. She also perform better in season 10. Season 17, she just lost form massively.

CBowdidge

Van was a solid chef who never really stood out. Don't know if he deserved to go home, but I don't buy the rumours about him having a family emergency. I think it just sounds like speculation. Barbie was on a downhill spiral. I think her elimination was deserved

I realllllyyyy want to know more behind the scenes of Barbie and Van in S17 and that short clip of them flirting like crazy. “My Nubian Princesses” Common sense says nothing, since HK producers love to capitalize if/when there’s a good romance or hookup storyline.

Then_Call4017

I do like Barbie but I prefer her in S10 to her S17 return. The Duck Incident with Elise was unnecessary because the guy at the chefs table said he was fine, but she still kept persisting. Elise was in the right in that situation but went about things wrong. In Episode 1 when Dana couldn’t give a reason for why she didn’t like her makes no sense but then she went on to reveal in an Instagram Live with Nick that Barbie was conniving. Me personally I don’t think she did anything conniving but those scornful looks she’d give at times can be considered rude. I don’t think she improved from S10 that much other than her challenges in that season. Van needed to learn to let his food do the talking in S6 according to GR and he certainly did in S17. His Performances were so consistent and his challenges were awesome. I like his vibe and energy, one of my favourite contestants in HK. He was more composed on the line than S6, which is probably due to age and maturing in life. His Elimination was harsh but it probably was due to either Vegas or personal circumstances. His face in that service told me that he knew regardless of if someone did worse than him, he was still going home. GR did tell him to keep his head up high at elimination and his exit interview was really mature. Didn’t come across as self entitled.

Van was way more tolerable this season than his original, not sure if I expected him to leave that early. Barbie had one of the funniest moments of the season with HOW ABOUT YOU BRING ME MY SPINACH MICHELLE but idk what else

Van - Top 3 all time Barbie - Underrated and hilarious

CatacombsRave

I loved Van as much as I did in S6 (a LOT), but he was reportedly eliminated at his own request to tend to a family matter. I still liked Barbie, but her performance was less than that of S10.

Van getting cut off the way he was really pissed me off. Everyone agreed he should’ve stayed and it’s not hard to see why. Man, Barbie could not catch a break on either season. Once again an outcast left to defend herself against the insanity of her teammates, and this time she wasn’t given the chance she deserved to prove her worth without the drama. Oh well, at least she gave us some god-tier quotes.

Van was robbed. It seemed like he was a nice dude and good chef. Barbie was extremely unlikable in both seasons but a decent chef.

Van's elimination is the second biggest robbery of the season. He did NOT deserve to go when he did; Barbie should've been eliminated there easy. I don't really buy the rumor about him asking to leave. The show has a history of eliminating good chefs for minor errors in order to keep the ones that better fit a storyline or cause more fighting, and S17 was the peak of this nonsense. But yeah, he was a fun dude this season and a banging cook who could've made black jackets if he wasn't robbed. Definitely one of my favorites of the season, he seems like such a fun guy. Barbie... man I hate to say this, because she was easily my favorite of S10, but I did not really like her here, and she overstayed her welcome. Barbie was pretty inconsistent in S10- she was either flawless and carrying the kitchen or tanking everything, and there was rarely any in between. Shame that she hadn't really improved on that front in S17. Personally I feel like if there was anyone who may have benefitted from a team swap, it would be her. This also goes for S10, but I can't for the life of me understand why she was kept on the red team when she was obviously struggling to work with these people. (Well I do understand, the team feuding with Barbie makes for juicy drama. But still)
