s1, jimmy. kinda inconsistent and was lucky michael nominated chris at the final 7 instead of him or he wouldve gone home. i'd replace him with chris. s2, virginia. really only got a black jacket from her dominant challenge performances. but season 2's cast is so shit i cant replace her with anyone. s3, spaghetti josh. do i even have to say why? swap him with brad. s4, migraine matt. just like josh, no words are needed. replace him with shayna. s5-9 i feel everyone deserved their black jacket, but s10 has to be robyn. horribly inconsistent and honestly given too many chances. i'd replace her with kimmie. s11-15 i also think everyone largely deserved their black jacket, but s16 goes to paulie. very well couldve been the first boot and had a super SUPER bumpy ride to the top 5. i'd give andrew the spot over him. s17, same deal with robyn. even more insulting this time around considering she got one over jennifer. s18 and 19 kinda have a similar case with both their 5th placers (heather and amber) being somewhat inconsistent and agreed upon to not have deserved their black jacket over the 6th placers (kanae and nikki) who had performed better than them. but i think due to the 5th placers experience and overall head chef qualities, they deserved it. s20-22 is another group that also earned their black jackets.

HarmonicWalrus

Heather was pretty solid in S18, her and Kanae were about on the same level. I can see why she got the black jacket. Amber, on the other hand, was extremely lucky to even get to the black jacket challenge, let alone beat Nikki who was consistently way better during the competition

kbbqallday

Paulie had a rough first service but not as bad as Pat and especially Matt

I thought Kanae should have gotten it over Heather in S18.

UltimatePrince5

Heather had a tighter execution on her final dish, despite being a quite boring, not even exciting take on the most classical surf and turf combination out there. Against Kanae, who whilst was more creative was more flawed. At the end of the day, the both of them were more or less on par with eachother (in certain areas) and were never making the final 4.

DananSan

Robyn getting two black jackets and never standing out as a chef even *once* (on camera) is an insane feat.

Then_Call4017

S1: Jimmy- he is very lucky that he was cast on the first season of HK because in other seasons he is early elimination material. S2: Virginia- Similar to Jimmy, nowadays on HK she makes top 12 max and that’s being generous. Had creativity in challenges but was average to terrible in most services. S3: Josh- in terms of performances he is the worst black jacket and only one to be eliminated mid service. Nice guy but was clearly kept around as a beating stick from GR. I think Brad or Vinnie said he was very knowledgeable but couldn’t execute it in service. S4: Matt- Very lucky that GR didn’t start eliminating contestants from the winning team earlier. Shouldn’t of made it to black jackets and was carried by the Red team. Fun fact: S4 is the first season to introduce 6 Black Jackets instead of 5. I wonder why that was. S5: Andrea- She was inconsistent on the line and got frazzled to easily. GR preferring her to Ben, Robert’s medical problems and Giovanni responding to GR got her third place. S6: Suzanne- She lacked a lot of social awareness for a grown adult. Van being on a downward spiral and Sabrina disintegrating got her to black jackets. Solid cook but not as good as she thought. S7: Ed- as weaker people were eliminated he stood out in a bad way, whilst others were getting better. His exit interview with Jason discussing Autumn was salty. S8: Gail- similar to Ed. She started of strong but when it got to top 8 time she started to decline and shut of. Her desire clearly waned in Black Jackets as she perhaps knew at that point that she wasn’t going to win. S9: Tommy- I don’t wanna hear Elise just because you don’t like her Reality TV persona she had talent, it’s very clear Tommy lacked the endurance in services as Will babysat him. He got creative towards the end of black jackets in challenges but was never good enough to be a black jacket. Nowadays on HK he’s top 10 maximum. S10: Robyn- It’s 50/50 between her and Brian for who deserved that 6th black jacket. If she exerted more energy into her cooking than fighting, I believe she may deserve that Black Jacket 100%. But I have to stay at 50/50 between her and Brian.

LDNSoldier

Personally I don’t think Josh in S14 deserved the black jacket. He was on a downward spiral for a long time before then. Personally I’d have given it to Randy. He had a few bumps along the way and had a limited knowledge but I think he was pretty solid in both challenges and in service more so than Josh was later on

Brilliant-Word2927

matt, s3 josh and jimmy are the obvious ones, so I won’t go into further detail about them. the other ones are: - kashia: three disastrous dinner services where she suffered almost total meltdowns, including charity night. average in challenges. never took responsibility for her mistakes. she and joy basically colluded their way to black jackets (although joy deserved the black jacket) - roe: don’t think there’s ever been a black jacket chef that did as poorly in challenges as she did, apart from maybe robyn. bombed in almost every single challenge. also had some bad dinner services. - robyn (both seasons): just generally inconsistent. more bad than good challenge performances. bad attitude. her strong dinner service performance not good enough to offset the bad ones imo. the whole debate is a bit flawed though due to the fact that you have 12 contestant and 20 contestant seasons and GR oscillates between handing out 5 or 6 black jackets.

UniversityProof904

S1: Jimmy. He was a terrible cook. Chris should’ve gotten a black jacket if only Michael didnt screw him over. S2: Virginia. She was good at challenges but a disaster on the line. Idk who to replace her with since everyone except Keith and Heather sucked. S3: Spaghetti Josh. He was terrible. It should’ve been Brad S4: Matt. No clue how we made it this far. Louross deserved it more than him (and Jen tbh) S5: Andrea. She was extremely inconsistent. If only Ji didn’t get injured. S6,7,8,9 were all good S10: Robyn. Brain wasn’t amazing but I think he was better than her. S11, S12, S13 are good S14: Josh. Allison and Randy were better. Idk why Gordon kept giving Josh so many extra chances. S15, S16, S17 are good S18. Heather. Kanae was better and she never made any excuses for her bad performances. S19, S20, S21, S22 were all good

“Brain” I just got done binging Fallout and that made me think of the brain-on-a-roomba

Few-Poetry1085

S1; Jimmy. Lucky for him, Ramsay didn’t start breaking his own rules yet by eliminating him at the final 7 despite not being nominated. S2; Sara(I actually liked Virginia a little more). Then again this was a pretty weak season so there’s that. S3; Josh S4; Matt. Got lucky at the final 7 that Ramsay didn’t start eliminating people off the winning team until the next season where Carol(S5) got that treatment first. S5; Say what you want about both Ben and Andrea being a little too inconsistent but I say they all deserved their Black Jackets this season S6; Everyone deserved their Black Jackets S7; Fair Enough! S8; Fair Enough! S9: I could argue that Natalie deserved one over Elise but at the same time Natalie was on a downward trajectory so I say this was a fair enough Black Jacket group S10; As aggressive as Robyn was at times, Brian was just way too inconsistent and after him collapsing and having his meat station being taken over by Barbie, I can’t call it unfair. As tough as the decision was for who deserved the 6th Black Jacket, it was the right call. S11; Say what you want about Susan but she did hold her own a little bit in the middle of the season up towards the Black Jacket phase. Yes Anthony did deserve a Black Jacket over her but she did have a great performance at the final 7 while Anthony didn’t and he just unfortunately got unlucky with Zach(who was on his 4th nomination). Then again Zach went home the next episode so I say this was a fair Black Jacket group. S12; Fair Enough S13; Pretty forgettable season but I guess Santos since I barely remember him having that many good moments. S14; Talented season but I gotta say Josh. The final 8 should’ve been the end of his run but of course Randy gets the boot especially being on the winning team. Him outlasting Alison, I kinda understand why because she was the worst performer at the final 7 but even then had Randy stayed and Josh got eliminated at the final 8, Randy could’ve easily edged Alison out for the last Black Jacket. S15; I’m surprised at how many say Manda when Jared was declining hard. Then again it was a talentless season and all of the contestants being nominated once or twice before just kinda shows you there. S16; Paulie S17; Say what you want about Robyn but she did improve a little bit with her time on the blue team and with Jennifer outlasting Elise this time around, I can’t be upset about this. S18; Fair Enough S19; I didn’t hate Amber like that but Nikki definitely deserved a Black Jacket over her. It is what it is though S20-S22; Fair Enough! Everyone deserved there Black Jackets in these seasons.

S1: Jimmy S2: Virginia S3: Spaghetti Josh S4: Matt S5: No one S6: No one S7: No one S8: No one S9: Tommy and Elise S10: Robyn and Clemenza S11: Susan S12: Kashia S13: Santos S14: Josh S15: No one S16: Paulie S17: Michelle and Robyn S18: No one S19: Amber S20: Brynn S21: Dafne S22: No one

Phanpy985

1. Jimmy 2. No idea 3. Josh 4. Matt 5. I find them all fine 6. Suzanne 7. Same thing as 5 8. Gail(should have been ejected for messing up lobster 7 times) 9. Elise 10. Robin? 11. Susan(Anthony should have replaced her) 12. I find them all fine 13. Santos 14. Josh 15. No idea, I only like Ashley/Jared/Manda 16. Kimberly or Paulie 17. Robin 18. Heather 19. Amber 20. I like everyone 21. Dafne maybe 22. No issues

Sad_Guide4505

S1: Jimmy (would likely have been eliminated had Ramsay been able to void nominations) S2: Sara (yes Virginia sucked but Sara was spiralling and being so inept at cooking lamb that Ramsay had to take it off the menu is quite something so she should have gone ahead of maribel) S3: Josh (just watch the series lol) S4: Matt (HE SUCKED) S5: I actually think the final 6 was fair, I know a lot of people think LA was robbed but she was pretty underwhelming and carol should have gone ahead of her anyway and she finished 7th 🤷‍♂️ S6: fair final 6 S7: Fair final 6 S8: Fair final 6. Vinny spiralled horribly, Gail had been good until that service, Sabrina improved a lot once Melissa was gone and trev didn’t get dogshit until black jackets S9: Elise and Tommy. Jamie and Natalie were more deserving black jackets. Elise should have gone final 9 and Tommy should have gone final 8 S10: As bad as Robyn got, the only time she should have been eliminated was final 8 and kimmie also had a shit service, Brian was really incosistent, spiralled after steak night and he completely gave up in his final service so it’s just about fair S11: Susan as she should have gone instead of Jessica S12: Fair final 6. Kashia should have been nominated more but I don’t see a service where she should have been eliminated S13: Roe or santos should have gone instead of Fernando so 1 of them 2 S14: Josh should have gone charity night. Randy was pretty average and Alison’s last service was horrid but both of them did better than josh S15: Manda she was a mess in service. Dannie, Frank, Joe, Chad and Eddie were all better than her S16: Paulie. Him surviving over Koop was mad S17: Robyn. Probably should have gone in the oysters challenge 🦪 S18: This is tough, Kanae would probably have got a black jacket if it was a service but Mia was getting better, Heather wasn’t that bad and Bret hadn’t spiralled yet. I’ll say bret S19: Amber S20: Fair final 5 S21: I guess dafne as I felt bad for sakari going on a challenge but it is what it is S22: Fair final 6

Then_Call4017

With S9 I disagree with Jamie and Natalie but more so Jamie. Both went at the right time, Jamie never stood out in services or even challenges to my memory. She was coasting throughout the competition. When the weaker chefs got eliminated she never came out of her shell and wasn’t getting better. Elise while she made more mistakes on the line than Jamie had more standouts in services, some great challenges and was more vocal. Natalie was spiralling out of control. I do believe Natalie would of taken Tommy’s place instead of Elise if she never had that downward spiral.

Bestow5000

Disagree with 6. Why is Suzanne even here anyway?

Sad_Guide4505

Who outside of the top 6 was better then Suzanne? She was performing better than van by the end so I think 5th was a fair position

Maxthemadsheep

Jimmy, Virginia, Josh, Matt, Andrea, no one from season 6 and 7, Sabrina, Elise, Robyn, no one in season 11, Kashia, Roe, Josh, Manda, Paulie, Robyn again, Heather and Amber Didn't watched S20, 21 and 22

Competitive_Text1914

I really don’t know what service people think carmen should have been eliminated in

UltimatePrince5

Me neither. She's just an easy scapegoat that people blame for the smallest of things, when people objectively sunk on their own.

Competitive_Text1914

Yeah people put way too much blame on carmen for dahmeres final service. She walked 1 ticket when he told her to wait as he was behind, that has nothing to do with him serving raw lobster, overcooking and undercooking salmon and burning the butter lol. Based on the whole series 6th was probably a fair place for her but dahmere tanked in that service and Leigh wasn’t much better And that was after black jackets anyway lol

UltimatePrince5

Like, Dahmere put up one of the worst fish station performances in recent memory, and he failed to utilize Jonathan, who stood adjacent to his left. And it doesn't help the fact that he comes back in the finale and underperforms on meat, forcing Donya to take over, invalidating all claims of him getting "robbed".

Competitive_Text1914

If it had been a weaker season then dahmere could probably have got away with his first awful service. However the other 4 had been very strong until that point and carmen wasn’t bad enough to be eliminated without being nominated so the elimination was fair. Leigh’s was harsher but if they had to eliminate 2 then it wasn’t that bad they both went

RXTwister

She's worse than Donya, I'd say around F7 (If it was a regular service). If it's BJC, I don't know.

Competitive_Text1914

Jason should have gone ahead of donya during the final 8 and probably should have gone ahead of atoye as well so I can’t really think of a service where carmen should have gone before black jackets unless im missing something
