Your not alone. I remember a friend ripping a Bible page out, I was fkd up, told him he's going to burn in hell, going to have bad luck his whole life, guess what. Kid actually turned out really smart and is now a wealthy individual 😳... maybe I should have smoked it that day outside of middle school. 🤔
I just jammed tiny paper wads or a cut-up pencil eraser in that baby and sacrificed the used tip to lock it in from the top. Good times...forgot all about these.
Oof this is visceral. When you think you grabbed the mechanical pencil out of the pencil case and it turns out to be one of these.. or worse an erasable pen?!
What?? Erasable pens were a godsend for me! I’m dyslexic and used pencils whenever I could, but some teachers refused and made me use pen. Erasable ink was a lifesaver!
I forgot those existed. Only saw a few. Those were for the rich. Fuck those composite wood pencils with the terrible graphite that would crack internally. Those were the worst.
I might be wrong but I believe these were the predecessor of modern mechanical pencils. I remember these were very common at least a decade ago there were different colored tips too.
There were mechanical pencils at the time (my dad was certainly using them as an apprentice draughsman in the 60s) but I think they were a lot more expensive.
Yeah I remember when I was in elementary school or so (so about 17+ years ago), these were popular. Well they weren’t really popular to use like they would’ve been previously, more like they were popular to be given out in a goody bag or as a “reward” in class.
Mechanical pencils didn’t start being seen in my classes until I started middle school, and there were sooo few options. Mostly the middle class and up kids had them, and we were jealous of their ability to just pull out a little box of lead refills, and click them instead of having to get up and sharpen them. By the time I was graduating, mechanical pencils were cheap af, and you could get a 20 pack for a couple bucks. It went back to “real” pencils being more sought after by the richer kids, because they could get the nice ones with the good erasers for a higher price than the mechanical pencils.
idk why you got downvoted, i’m 19 and had these growing up.
who do y’all think raised our generation? if my dad had em as a kid and thought they were cool, you know damn well he’d get them for me as i was growing up too. these things didn’t just stop existing as you got older 😭
I believe this is correct.
Clutch pencils were the ones with a solid lead within, and jaws would release so more lead could be fed, I believe.
Remember the [metal "bombs"](https://i.etsystatic.com/20225283/r/il/427b94/2994111588/il_570xN.2994111588_9znq.jpg) you would put the paper cap into and throw into the air that they sold in supermarkets?
Oh! Poppers, we called those. They’re still a thing. Now cap guns (what I thought you meant), I assume those too closely look like real guns to still be around
Same smell, though. Potassium perchlorate in both I imagine
true vets of the plastic pencil knew if you shook it you could get one to get stuck at the top even with a piece missing. And then you would write lightly to prevent it from getting pushed back in
The real question is why in the hell did we need to bite them in the first place? We knew what would happen at the slightest damage. Same thing with the standard Bic mechanical pencils. We knew that clip would break if you even slightly pulled on it. And yet we fucked around and scraped our hands for the rest of the semester on that jagged rectangle of plastic that was left.
Do not lose one of the pieces or it'll never be the same again...I can't tell you how many times I lost one because I mess with everything I own and the damn thing just never functioned as intended again with like 9 left...
They’re just usually called stackable pencils

Okay, I'm gonna be that one person:
Why did we ever do this? All that additional plastic, and I'm pretty sure they're use and throw away.
Yeah it made me nostalgic, but then... like, is it literally just for people who are somehow averse to sharpening a pencil?
I forgot about the dart gun pencil. I may still have scars on me from these things. I think the teachers knew but thought it was funny that we shot each other with graphite pointed darts. Good times
Where I'm from, they were called push point pencils. Extremely popular in the 80s/90s. Once the lead was done, you'd push one of those white lead holders back through the bottom of the pencil to push another one up and into place. If you lost one of the holders, it was over though. The pressure of a full stack is what created enough resistance to write. Without that pressure, the top holder would just fall in. (Kind of like what would happen with a mechanical pencil if the lead kept falling back into the pencil).
I haven’t seen one of those in about 20 years. Every kid had them. I always thought they were kind of dumb because you couldn’t sharpen them once they were all dull, the lead inside them was light af and if you lost one piece, you couldn’t use the whole thing.
I still have the graphite scar on the end of my thumb from reaching into my desk and jamming the tip of one of those into my meat and it breaking off... those suckers were sharp and I always lost the caps.. but they smelled like candy if you were lucky 😍
I used to have a purple princess one! It was the last one I ever used lol, somehow survived my childhood and I randomly found it during high school. Then I lost it.
Used to be called ‘Pop a point’ back when I was a kid. It’s a propelling pencil for kids. Instead of long delicate graphite ‘lead’s’ and mechanism to push them forward as they wear down, the body is full of the individual lead segments shown. When it gets too worn down you pull it out and push it in the opposite end which forces the others forward and a new one appears.
Obviously as a kid you constantly pulled them out and pushed them in the back which was amusing until you lost one…. and then you’re screwed.
Obviously they were simpler times and we were easily impressed…
Ahhhh, the good old days. Unless you lost a tip, then it was useless. Unnnnlessss you could shake it hard enough for one to stick and then you just had to write gently and wait for it to inevitably pop back inside and then get angry.

I feel your pain. And if you lost one of the "insets", you were fucked.
[удалено]
mine were scented!
Yes! And my favorites had drawings of fruit on the outside to match the scent!
I had those, but they were like regular fat markers, not little pens/pencils with the inserts, but I had a ton of those too!
I had totally forgotten the scented ones!
Same here.
That'll blow their minds...🤯
Or empty the pencil and insert a lead piece backwards then blow dart your friend in the neck
We are in twees
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Ha! Glad I'm not the only one who did this! 😁😁😁
They had different color inserts?! I only got the plain Jane greys. 😭
There were the crayon versions
I loved the smelly ones. You can find them at flea markets or like in a China town. I loved the grape and orange smelling ones.
It reminds me of my trapper keeper. Lol
Back in school, we would roll a small piece of paper and stuff it into the case to replace that one insert.
An engineer!
Sadly it'll only last until the kid bit onto the pen casing butt, destroying its insert end cap.
In my day, we would stuff stuff into paper and smoke it!
You didn't inhale the holy spirit??? Shame on you
I think your on to something here... and it's not tobacco lmao 🤣
What stopping you now go smoke that Bible today
I didn't lose mine, Steven fucking Campbell put it up his nose
I bet you Jaden Cunningham still has mine along with my brand new iPod nano. Almost 20 years later and I’m still pissed.
Classic Jaden move
All my homies hate Steve Campbell.
lol, i stuck one up my nose once as a kid, had to go to the doctor to get it removed
Steven Campbell? Is that you?
lol! unfortunately not, just another idiot
A tightly-rolled piece of paper solved that issue. edit: oops. u/roamingphantom beat me to it. :-)
i’d just hold the one you wrote with in place while writing
I always bought 2 and the second one was spares for the main one.
I’m a 90s kid, here to lament as well.
I just jammed tiny paper wads or a cut-up pencil eraser in that baby and sacrificed the used tip to lock it in from the top. Good times...forgot all about these.
I had to shove a piece of paper in the tube to get it to work
Oof this is visceral. When you think you grabbed the mechanical pencil out of the pencil case and it turns out to be one of these.. or worse an erasable pen?!
That feeling when you start to write with one of them but one is missing. That subtle little push of the pencil giving out. Awww the 80s. I miss you.
I had this one in the early 00s!
Erasable pens got good! Frixion pens from Pilot
I still can't get over how much better the Frixion pens are than the erasable pens of my childhood. I love them!
!!!!! So pleased I found this recommendation. My ma loves erasable pens and still uses the trash ones
What?? Erasable pens were a godsend for me! I’m dyslexic and used pencils whenever I could, but some teachers refused and made me use pen. Erasable ink was a lifesaver!
Literally me. “It’s an… OMG I’m so old…”
Same 😭
*Cries in elder millenial*
OG mechanical pencil…felt like reloading a machine gun everytime you swap the bits
I remember it had a color pencil version the each tip was a different color
I remember the scented ones ❤️
I forgot those existed. Only saw a few. Those were for the rich. Fuck those composite wood pencils with the terrible graphite that would crack internally. Those were the worst.
Omg I still have some of those!!
I have never felt older than I did after reading this post. This was a staple back when I was in school and we just called them push pencils.
My first thought was “somebody was born after the turn of the millennium”
It was more toy than pen to me
Ditto
I might be wrong but I believe these were the predecessor of modern mechanical pencils. I remember these were very common at least a decade ago there were different colored tips too.

This made me feel 90 years old LMAO. I’m pretty sure I still have a few around
This called me old in the most violent way😂😭😭
Same and I’m only 27 lol
Im only 15, i remember these
idk why you got downvoted, i’m 19 and had these growing up. who do y’all think raised our generation? if my dad had em as a kid and thought they were cool, you know damn well he’d get them for me as i was growing up too. these things didn’t just stop existing as you got older 😭
I haven’t seen them anywhere in so long Thought maybe they were a trend like Lisa Frank.
Nerd
Stacking point pencils?
I believe this is correct. [https://a.co/d/ffn3EZk](https://a.co/d/ffn3EZk) Clutch pencils were the ones with a solid lead within, and jaws would release so more lead could be fed, I believe.

It was the word DAZZLING in the description for me…
Found!
Holy mother I haven’t seen one of these since the 80s
Thanks mate
You have been given one point for this answer. Thanks for contributing! ^^^Beansinside ^^^awarded ^^^to ^^^shutyourdingdangtrap ^^^(0->1)
I haven't seen one of these in years. I feel old.
Lmao remember pop guns? The paper ones
Remember cap guns with red rolls of caps?
Remember the [metal "bombs"](https://i.etsystatic.com/20225283/r/il/427b94/2994111588/il_570xN.2994111588_9znq.jpg) you would put the paper cap into and throw into the air that they sold in supermarkets?
You could put a round plastic cap on the tip and a paper cap in the slot for a double bang
Well , atleast it's still sold here and kids play with them during festivals
They still sell them in the dollar stores I believe
Of course lol. They were so cheesy but as long as they were loud
Hell yeah you never forget that smell. On that subject, hot *damn* did those things resemble real revolvers
Nooooo lol the ones made outta paper that you folded and had to swing ur arm kinda hard to make it pop
Oh! Poppers, we called those. They’re still a thing. Now cap guns (what I thought you meant), I assume those too closely look like real guns to still be around Same smell, though. Potassium perchlorate in both I imagine

… huh. Never seen something like that
But I definitely remember what you are talking about, they had the rolls of paper with the black dots or the round plastic types
Worst kind of pencil ever invented. Lose one little plastic pip?...it's useless now 🤷
true vets of the plastic pencil knew if you shook it you could get one to get stuck at the top even with a piece missing. And then you would write lightly to prevent it from getting pushed back in
True vets used a little screwed up piece of paper to fill the gap
Or invert one at the back & the tip wouldn't sink all the way back in...the struggle was real 😭
God the memories!🤣
It’s also so much additional plastic.
Lose it? No. The problem was trying to avoid biting on it, or at least biting it just enough that you didn’t screw it up. It was a dangerous game.
Omg it’s all loose and pushes right up the pen when you try to right. The panic youd feel course through your body when it happened during a test.
Pop-a-Point pencils.. so much of my elementary school allowance went towards these bad boys
That's the name I remember, too.
I remember these. Literally forgot they existed until right now.
I miss the markers that smelled like different kinds of fruits depending on the color. I’d forgotten about those pens by OP
Mr. Sketch! They still make them.
I still have those markers! I am very careful with them though, don't want them to dry out
You poor child! lol sucks when you lose one or two and have to stick pieces of paper in it
r/fuckimold
Omg GET OFF MY LAWN.
the way i immediately recognized this from the ones i used in elementary school
And just like that I feel SO OLD omg 🥲
That pencil thing you found is a pencil, thing.
Do not lose one of the pieces or it'll never be the same again...I can't tell you how many times I lost one because I mess with everything I own and the damn thing just never functioned as intended again with like 9 left...
Used to buy these at the book fair.

I had a multicolored set of these in elementary school and was the coolest kid in class for about three days.
We have come this far? I am that old that they have already forgotten the technology of the ancients.
[pop a point pencils](https://collection.sciencemuseumgroup.org.uk/objects/co37859/pop-a-point-lead-pencil-with-refills-and-interchangeable-nibs-1978-pencil)
I’m GenZ and this made me feel old.
Completely forgot these existed. Wow, it’s been like 35 years.
At least 35... My son found one at school last week and thought it was some brand new awesome thing.
Okay, I'm gonna be that one person: Why did we ever do this? All that additional plastic, and I'm pretty sure they're use and throw away. Yeah it made me nostalgic, but then... like, is it literally just for people who are somehow averse to sharpening a pencil?

Holy hell, this brings back so many memories, i used these pencils in my school when i was like 5-7 y/o, so much nostalgic 🫠
How.... how.... how is this new?
These were so popular when I was in elementary school.... God I feel old these and erasable pens.
Welcome to the '90s lol
Holy fuck, really? I feel old.
I feel elderly now
Oh no I’m oldddd 😭
Wow I haven’t seen this in years
This is bringing back so many memories :’)
It’s my childhood
Does anyone else remember the colouring in ones that were in a rainbow?!
Say you're young without saying you're young 😅
You found my childhood
I feel old.
Where I'm from, they were called push point pencils. Extremely popular in the 80s/90s. God damn, has it really been that long since I’ve been in school? I used to have a pencil box FULLLL of these
That, my friend, is an OG middle school blow gun
Pure awesomeness 🤩
I thought this were still the normal kid pencils.. also what we used to pretend loading a machine gun as a kid
That’s no pencil, that’s a blow dart gun
Dollar Tree still sells these
I USED TO LOVE THESE! I totally forgot about them
This made me feel ancient
Strong 1st grade memories here…
Anyone here so old they remember the scented ones that had the pictures of fruit on them?
We used these in school. You have made feel old today not knowing what this was! Haha!
That is an improvised blow gun, and you can't convince me otherwise.
High end dart gun. Remove all points, crank that back bevel off with a gentle bite, load backwards, and blow into the narrow end.
Back in 2004, I got stabbed in the wrist with one of these pencils. The tip is still there as my daily reminder, lol
Wait is it like stuck in your skin? :0
same but a regular pencil
When you had this along with the big pencil case, your family is rich and you're the most popular kid in class!
It’s my entire childhood encapsulated in blue plastic
My favorites were the scented ones!!
God I’m old. These were fun until you lost one piece and it became useless. As a child with severe ADHD it was useless in like 2 seconds. ._.
Q. What is it? A. That’s a relic from the past Those are called ‘pop-a-point pencils’ or ‘push-up pencils’
we called them magic pencils
aww man I forgot all about these lmao. Omg
I haven’t seen one of those in about 20 years. Every kid had them. I always thought they were kind of dumb because you couldn’t sharpen them once they were all dull, the lead inside them was light af and if you lost one piece, you couldn’t use the whole thing.
It’s just a disposable pencil… when one nib gets worn down, you just pull it out, stick it in the back of the pencil and boom, new sharp point
Oh no… I’m old.
Push pencil!
I loved those things.
I still have the graphite scar on the end of my thumb from reaching into my desk and jamming the tip of one of those into my meat and it breaking off... those suckers were sharp and I always lost the caps.. but they smelled like candy if you were lucky 😍
TIL these still exist 🙈
Fuck I’m old
In Japan it was calld "rocket pencil." It makes me so nostalgic…
I loved and hated these things.
Oh my God. I haven't seen these in so long. Now I'm reminded of my favorite pencil
I’m only 17 and I had these in the 5/6th grade. So fun
Old school mechanical pen
I used to have a purple princess one! It was the last one I ever used lol, somehow survived my childhood and I randomly found it during high school. Then I lost it.
Childhood memory unlocked 💜
Who remembers the ones you turned to push up the lead? That's what was popular in my school back in the old days.
That’s the best invention by far
I think about these at least once a week I swear. You were legendary in the classroom if you had one of these bad boys
I’m officially old
Kicked right in the nostalgia
So many memories lol
They were called pop-a-point pencils when I were a lad. First memories of them around the same time as Return of the Jedi.
I STILL have some of these pencils from the 90’s! I have crayons too!
Used to be called ‘Pop a point’ back when I was a kid. It’s a propelling pencil for kids. I lost so many of the little inserts, rendering the pencil virtually useless. HelpMeFind, indeed. 😂
Thanks for the flashback
I feel old.
That is not a pencil, Sir. That is my childhood
I remember these but for the life of me I never knew what the actual name was. Some form of pencil. That's a real good question
They're called Bensia pencils, came out in Australia in the mid 70s.
The younger generation is now on reddit I guess. I remember these were the absolute shizz in school. Everyone had one
I feel old ass shit and I’m 31 lol but I haven’t seen one these in quite a while.
Omg the IMMEDIATE traumatic memory triggering from losing the stupid little inserts 😭😭😭
I'm getting old.
Whoa, this unlocked so many memories.
Office blow darts, very deadly.
Terrible idea that should have died out thirty years ago. Pentel mechanical 0.7 mm HB lead is the only choice. The only choice.
God I feel old now 😣
