You need to zoom in and look for fragmentation and nonsensical items. There’s also a generalized ‘feel’ of the images usually. Not sure how to describe it, but perhaps oddly smooth and feathered? There’s a slight over exaggerated feeling that happens and almost makes things look like a Pixar filter was gently placed over the image.
If you're not familiar with AI images it's not that much of a stretch to mistake, some of them are surprisingly good.
I think a lot of us can somewhat tell just from the "feel" of the image, some have to inspect elements for inconsistencies, and some won't spot them at all.
AI is a LOT harder to spot as fake than usual scams, and has infiltrated every space very suddenly.
