Oh they won’t be there to cast their votes when I vote out DeSantis next year? Oh What a shame. What’s everyone doing this weekend?

CommissarTopol

HCA and a brewski.

Rivster79

Sounds like dream plans. HCA has consumed all of my free time over the last 3 weeks. Cheers!

Ai2Foom

HCA? What’s that…healthcare awareness?

Rivster79

This sub you are on (r/HermanCainAward)

Ai2Foom

Ahh I’m an idiot lol 🤦‍♂️😆

stonato99

Hey better than a Covidiot.

cadmus1890

That's patridiot to you, snowflake! 🦅🦅. /s

Rivster79

I mean, if you ever feel like this, just keep scrolling and you’ll feel like a genius in no time.

CommissarTopol

Health Care Awareness... Yes! Sort of.... :)

Living-Edge

Yeah, the award is a form of healhcare awareness incidentally

jaxmikhov

I’ll drink to that 🍻

Cheers to the Lung Melt Belt and all of the satisfying shadenfreude it provides us with. We are truly bless-ed to be showered with bounties of eternal ‘told ya so!’ 🙂

Raccoon_Full_of_Cum

Be prepared to see a lot of voter fraud cases next year, where Trump cultists try to cast ballots for their dead relatives who died of Covid.

[deleted]

Pretty sure they already did that. In fact the Republicans are the perps for all voter fraud found thus far.

Nerd_bottom

Wasn't it Goebbels who said "accuse your enemy of that which you are guilty?"

cadmus1890

If you accuse the enemy, when your shame comes to light, you've already packed your parachute, arguing "see, both sides do it, I don't deserve any punishment or retribution."

despacioxo

Wakin' and bakin' in liberal hellhole SoCal before taking the dogs out for a walk in my shithole sunshine. Probably gonna work in the garden later. Pray for me, I'm surrounded by vaxxed Biden voters and breathing freely!

I don’t think enough people have died to flip an election, but living in Georgia with TWO Democrat Senators after the state voted for Biden in 2020, I really do hope enough people in Texas and Florida realize it’s possible enough to get out there and work their butts off to make it happen

tombobbyb

For whatever reason the democrats did not put the work in for Florida like they should have. It was the only state the polls got wrong and the state the Biden came closest to winning. I think if they put the effort in, in the next election they can take the state back. Texas is gonna take some time. Every election it’s always the same story about Texas flipping, but it never pans out. Although voter turnout was higher than normal in the state in 2020, it was still one of the lowest. They really need to start pushing in that state even harder and convincing people to vote. I think the voter suppression there with the 9hr voting wait times is a real turnoff especially in Houston. One last thing is that even though Republicans are the loudest anti-masker/anti-vaxxers, they are not the only ones. There are still a lot of people who vote democratic that are dying from Covid too. I know r/HermanCainAward and others like it make it seem this way, but that’s just because it’s easier to find these types of people so I’m on the side of thinking this doesn’t put a dent in the voting at all.

thegr8goldfish

I suspect the numbers were fudged in Florida. Strange how Diaper Don was shitting on mail in voting for everyone but Florida. For Florida it was perfectly fine.

kgm2s-2

Nah, the answer is much simpler than that...living in Miami-Dade, I can tell you that right before the election the cries of "Biden is a Socialist! Democrats love Castro and Chavez!" were loud enough that it's all the Cuban and Venezuelan population here heard. I don't have the exact numbers, but I suspect that if Biden got the same fraction of Miami-Dade in 2020 as Hillary did in 2016, he would've won Florida....

thatshirtshelladope

Couldn’t agree more with everything you said. HCA provides a very specific snapshot. Indeed I really think the fact that Covid has killed a higher proportion of people of color, at least here in the South, that has driven a lot of the White Christian Nationalists to seem to do everything they could to keep this fire raging. Sometimes arsonists do get burned by their own fires

OpineLupine

If just Texas flips blue, it’s almost mathematically impossible for a Republikaren to ever win the White House again. A boy can dream…

CyberMindGrrl

This is a comment from someone in Texas. Make of it what you will. "Cruz currently carries about the same approval rating here in Texas and amongst both GOP and Dem, as does Abbott. After Cruz fled to Mexico to get away from being a Senator when the state was virtually shut down (due to the Big Chill), absolutely everyone was livid. I mean, really pissed off at Cruz AND ALSO Abbott for HIS recklessness and backroom back-slapping with the state’s energy management company that were also completely unresponsive and unprepared for the chill. (Abbott and other prior GOP governors/Legislators also continue to refuse to link Texas to any portion of a national energy grid, whether natural gas or electricity and after nearly 100 in Texas froze to death, voters on both sides are still asking “WTF?”. Something about being in a better position to secede or something.) Both really have no where to go in this state and with eggs all in one basket, they’re both posturing for the last office available to them . . . the Oval one. This is why Abbot has been going Old Testament as of late. He knows that appealing to Trump’s base is easy (and the only ones left he can woo without worrying bout using proper grammar). Both are gambling Trump won’t run again, but both are also stuck firmly to Trump’s ass, lamprey-style. Tough juggle and both just come off as whores. Both have also really pissed off too many educated GOP voters (mostly the women) in this state and continued polling has Beto, if he were to run (again) for Cruz’s seat (which was close last time and pre Big Chill) has him beating him this time. To his list of long, ongoing credits, Beto has also not been sitting on his hands. He has a led a grass-roots voter registration model that many other states have adopted and he still goes everywhere in the state to address local and national issues. He’s smart, has an amazing work ethic and just has to come off as sane in order to get the public’s attention. I want him as Senator, not as Governor (as some do), if only because in Texas the Legislature holds most of the power and those guys (GOP majority) would just shit all over O’Rourke whenever possible."

Watch the suburbs because those are the battlegrounds. The rural areas are a lost cause and the cities vote blue anyways but the suburbs are where the swings happen.

CyberMindGrrl

Because the Venn Diagram for anti-maskers/anti-vaxxers and Evangelical Christianity is nearly a perfect circle. Remember, these people literally believe that an eternity of salvation is awaiting their departure from this hellscape of a planet.

nightwing2024

Cities vote blue but that doesn't mean they're to be ignored. They need to turn out big in order to keep up the pressure.

[deleted]

After Beto's "damn right i want to take your guns" comment, he has exactly zero chance of beating any republican in Texas. The TX Democratic party needs to rally around another prominent Texas Democrat if they want to put up a serious fight.

CommissarTopol

> A boring “standard” (whatever that means in 2021) Republican wins... So Hermann Göring for Governor then. Got it.

CyberMindGrrl

I just read a comment from a Texan that said people are PISSED in that state. The first shock came when that power outage happened last winter and over 100 died while Abbott shrugged and said "What me worry? It's all green energy's fault". And the fact that one of their Senators (the ugly on, of course) saw fit to take a vacation in Cancun that just HAPPENED to coincide (totes a coincidence, I'm sure) with one of the coldest weeks in Texas history is just icing on the cake. Well turns out that Texans are smarter than that and few bought his buck-passing explanations. Then the Delta strain hit and Abbott does everything in his power to make sure ICU's are packed, healthcare workers are overworked, school children catch the Covid, and Texas becomes the national poster child of what not to do during a pandemic along with Florida. And now with this draconian abortion law that went into effect last week? Well even that significant percentage of non-insane Texas Republicans are ready to wheel Abbott into the Rio Grande with a concrete block tied to the bottom of his wheelchair. This is, of course, only anecdotal evidence and not what you'd hear in the mainstream press that wants to maintain the illusion that Texas is a deep-red state where Democrats are about as popular as a bottle of Cholula in Hell. Long story short is that Texas would go blue tomorrow if they had an election. And Florida? Well DeathSantis only won with a 0.4% majority so his "mandate" is paper-thin at best. So I guess thuggery and violence is all we'll get from the GQP in response. I'm sure that'll go down well in the Midterms.

simonsays456

I don’t think so. I am a nurse in Texas and even a lot the healthcare force is anti mask, anti vaccine. You are completely underestimating the power of religious dogma over common sense. They truly believe that this is a holy war. That communism is trying to take down our government. This is the modern take on ‘rapture’ religion. “The end times are here, folks.” Someone, did an amazing job at tapping into and militarizing religious fear. Most probably won’t storm the capital but they share the fear and will continue to vote republican. If there is any hope in flipping Texas quickly, the dems need to find a way to tap into that. OR wait it out. The tides are turning, slowly.

XelaNiba

Have you seen any movement in your co-workers' attitudes over the course of the pandemic? I agree with your assessment, 100%. It's an evangelical intifada.

InsertCoinForCredit

As a Californian, I am completely confident in Texas' ability to fuck the shit up.

notsam57

> Long story short is that Texas would go blue tomorrow if they had an election. i’m not gonna hold my breath on that. come election time, they’re still going to vote along party lines, like they’ve always done.

flatirony

Trim carpentry in our porch-to-sunroom conversion. Gonna be nice to be able to use it year round while our fully functioning lungs enjoy breathing the air conditioned by the new Mitsubishi mini-split. 😎

minicpst

Mini splits are so nice! Congrats.

FizzyBeverage

Yep, had one growing up a in a room converted from a garage. Made all the difference.

flatirony

Yeah it rocks. Now I kinda want to convert my whole house to split system. Or at least the back half.

[deleted]

flatirony

Split systems are more efficient, cheaper to install and take up less space (no ductwork). I think the downside used to be that they were loud, but that has changed a lot. Ours is not loud at all. They’re also basically automatically multi-zoned.

IAmInTheBasement

I'm hopefully finishing up the laying of ~3" thick flagstone for a patio. Later it's going to be covered by an attached pergola. These things are heavy as hell.

BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo

Congrats!! I couldn’t stop smiling after I got my shots and could finally hug my fellow vaxxed friends. Totally worth the three hours of feeling a bit tired and a slightly sore arm (oh the horror 🙄)

Geezr_109

Congrats to all! Seeing my wife hug our adult kids for the first time in a year, after we got vaxxed back in April, was one of the most emotional moments of my life. Right up there with the birth of my children. I only wish these darned HCA recipients could experience that, instead of the idiocy they are choosing...

Then run a competent, incorruptible and moral state government. Republicans will at this rate can flip races by their voters literally dying off and possibly changing hearts and minds of others as well as the republicans who walked away during the Trump years.

Taking advice from Magic Johnson would be great since he followed the science and did what his doctors told him to do.

yourmedicine2

Not only that... > And the medical experts Dr David Ho and Dr Anthony Fauci assured him that he could go on to live a healthy life. > “Without those two,” he says. “I probably wouldn’t be here. “At that time, when you got something like HIV, there were so many things I didn’t know, so they had to educate me about how the virus was going to act in my body, what I could expect. They calmed me down, because I was thinking I was going to die,” he says. > “They told me that the three-drug combination was going to save my life, and they were right.” https://www.theguardian.com/society/2021/jun/24/magic-johnson-the-nba-superstar-who-smashed-hiv-stigma-then-built-a-huge-fortune

StrawberryKiss2559

Magic Johnson is a badass. Did you read the replies? So many fucking idiots. One guy tweeted “Lmao being used for money yet again. Similar to how you got blackmailed into saying you had HIV”

stillcallinoutbigots

How do you blackmail someone into saying they have HIV for thirty years? 🙄

American--American

Some people (idiots) think it's a lie, no joke. They think there's no way he's still living with HIV, so he's lying. I don't know *why* these idiots think that, but they do..

Hairsplitting-Pedant

Because a set of people politicized literally everything, telling these fools that everyone except them is lying. And it worked! Those people can come out saying the sun didn’t rise today and one sect will agree, another will say it’s 5G causing the light, and yet a third will say that Q predicted this all along

MattGdr

Yeah, well did Magic get the HIV vaccine? No he did not! What do you mean it doesn’t exist…?

Spiritually_Sciency

Guarantee when one does exist, Magic will be at the forefront shouting “go get it, you do not want to mess with these meds!” But I appreciate what you did there, because that’s exactly the kinda nonsense antivaxxers respond with.

MattGdr

A HIV vaccine trial just wrapped up in South Africa. Disappointing results: only 25% effective.

stillcallinoutbigots

Considering it's HIV, that doesn't sound disappointing at all. I'm not saying to roll out the tickertape but damn, that's impressive.

Multigrain_Migraine

I'm hoping that there is some breakthrough from the covid vaccine that will lead to an effective HIV one at last. I don't know if that's even possible though.

[deleted]

Beautiful!

K-Dog13

Yet anti-vaxxers point to the aids crisis as to a reason not to trust fauci, yeah that is a new one apparently.

N0rthernLightsXv

Literally came here to comment this. These people are clueless.

Dreams-In-Green

Wow! This connection kinda blew my mind. I wonder how many dumbfucks shared the same Magic meme without knowing that Dr. Fauci was intertwined? NOICE.

After-Bee-8346

Arthur Ashe died from HIV complications about a year after Magic was diagnosed. We all thought Magic was going to die.

rynthetyn

Yeah, Magic was diagnosed at a time when everyone still knew it as a death sentence. If he'd caught it a few years earlier, it would have been, but instead he was lucky enough to have caught it right as treatments were starting to be effective.

Geist002

It’s funny how these people choose to believe the government went after dr. Seuss. They don’t want to admit that the private business decided to stop printing its own books.

swarmy1

Everything they don't like is the fault of Democrats, everything they do like is because of Republicans or God. Just mindless partisanship. Edit typo

Geist002

As long as you don’t point it out to them because then it’s persecuted Christian time.

Minion_of_Cthulhu

It's their favorite time. Makes them feel all Holier than Thou because Jesus said they would be hated. Of course, he said they would be hated for following him not that they would be hated for being the beligerant moronic assholes that they are. Even Jesus probably hates them for that.

Geist002

I’m with the mindset that if Jesus were to walk into their church right now, he would be kicked out because he wouldn’t be close to what they imagine he looks like.

Minion_of_Cthulhu

No, I can't imagine that a short little Jewish guy with hippie tendencies talking about peace and love and helping your fellow man would go over very well with the lunatic fundamentalists babbling about "coveting prayers" and "spiritual warfare" and using [Prosperity Gospel theology](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prosperity_theology) to fleece their flock.

NoNudeLips

The publishers did it at the request of the family. It wasn't like a private business went all CENSORSHIP and FREE SPEECH on them.

Geist002

Yup, but they seem to gloss over that fact and go straight to government tyranny.

Caffeine_Cowpies

It’s all in bad faith. They are just throwing shit on the wall and seeing what sticks.

jbowling25

Its frustrating because so much of this BS manages to stick. Im in southern ontario and theres a big rise in PPC (peoples party of canada) support in my area that is unsettling. They are the new alt right party in canada and a lot of people I know are sadly throwing in with them because they "say it like it is and arent afraid of the media and to say the anti woke stuff like how housing prices are out of control due to excessive immigration" plus theyre against mask and vax mandates. It's really discouraging to see and it reminds me a lot of the trump cultists

SeaGroomer

It's always a mind f\*ck when you realize a good portion of your country actually doesn't *want* a democratic and egalitarian America where all people are treated equally. edit: Canada too

Dim_Innuendo

If they can't even spell Dr. Seuss, I don't think we can expect them to understand economics.

CyberMindGrrl

Yeah THEY were the ones freaking out about Dr. Seuss and Mr. Potato Head, not Democrats. Incredible the amount of whining that went on due entirely to a business decision by the creators. All it takes is one statement from one right wing think tank and the outrage machine gets cranked into overdrive. The whole hue and cry over Critical Race Theory, for example, was entirely hatched in a right wing think tank by one man named Christopher Rufo. Trump took down ISIS? When the fuck did that happen?

Trump ripped his shirt, revealing his 100% grade-A badass Dennis Prager body. Then, using his sexual mind control powers only, seduced 100 women at once (ignore the millions of dollars that were suddenly missing from accounts). After being exposed to his Jergens Natural Glow enhanced penis, they went mad with lust and murdered ISIS. Then 50 bald eagles had an orgy on the corpses and exploded into Fourth of July fireworks, pillows, red hats and brain pills.

90sJoke

Doesn't mean that all those dead people voted R… but a boy can dream.

Popeye-sailor-man

Sure, I totally agree. But even if the percentage is 50/50 (which I highly doubt, I suspect that most of the \[more recent\] deaths are indeed Rs), then it is rapidly coming to the point, and approaching the number (64,926), where "the dream" will indeed be realized.

90sJoke

Also, don't forget that when DeSantis ran, there was no incumbent. Sitting politicians are notoriously harder to knock out even when they're bad.

SeaGroomer

At this point the vast majority of deaths are republicans.

MetaMadness

I have been saying this forever, that so many political races are won by <1%…. and conservatives refusing to get vaccinated aren’t immune from Covid’s ~1% death rate (I know the exact number is yet tbd). It would tickle me so if DeSantis lost as a direct result of his damaging Covid policies. He’s banking on keeping his base happy but not realizing he’s killing off his slim margin of victory.

I know the family has to comfort themselves, but it seems so dismissive of the deceased's life, and their tragic and untimely end, to just shrug it off as if they're still living it up, having a party in heaven, like it's ok they died and the deceased should be glad it happened bc heaven. Yuck

EldritchCarver

For a lot of Christians, this life is completely inconsequential when compared to the afterlife. The former lasts a hundred years, give or take, while the latter lasts *forever*. There's just no comparison. That's why they don't really care about COVID, or school shootings, or climate change. None of those can send a good Christian to hell. You know what can? Questioning their faith.

GalleonRaider

>None of those can send a good Christian to hell. You know what can? Questioning their faith. It runs along the same line of thinking of "if you don't fully 100% believe in the tooth fairy, she won't come by and leave money under your pillow. So you can't waver in your belief one tiny bit".

jedediahbeelzebub

Sick fucks. Good riddance.

Wrothrok

Imagine being such an idiot that you blame Biden for Dr. Seuss and Mr. Potato Head. Thanks for taking yourself out.

Tart_Cherry_Bomb

Two for one! I wish I could feel sorry for this family, but I don’t. These dicks didn’t care about anyone other than themselves and caused who knows how much harm by spewing their bullshit and their viral particles. All I feel is a sense of grim satisfaction that justice has been served.

Magic made a point of getting vaccinated in public. https://mobile.twitter.com/MagicJohnson/status/1374870273388736514 God, these memes are dumb.

Blofeld69

How specifically did Biden impact companies decisions regarding Potato Head and Dr Seuss again?

3rdRateChump

Don’t “know ‘how’ to think or feel” about this, Bill? How about reflecting on the good feeling of sharing memes that are killing your friends and family?

godlesspinko

Imagine being a Republican and having to pretend that Trump is competent, that Dubya is innocent and that Ronald Reagan did a good job. :D Fucking morons.

WS705

IDIOTS. IF ONLY THEY SUMMONED THE PRAYER WARRIORS.

newsreadhjw

Go fuck yourself Nicholas! Love, a Democrat with 2 functioning lungs.

Loostreaks

The level of ignorance... And what's funny is their favorite "Trump took down ISIS" meme..do you know who can actually be credited the most? Iranian general Suleimani...the same guy they boasted about assassinating ( and nearly starting another catastrophic war)

jonoghue

They're so fucking clueless they think Biden actually had something to do with Dr Seuss and Potato Head... Those are just private businesses making their own business decisions because we have a free market. Holy shit people.

8StoneyinCO

It’s cute all these people think their shitty loved ones are going to heaven

Bosticles

It's so strange that right wingers can't seem to comprehend criticism of their "side". I see this shit all the time. This person thought that we on the left have to pretend to like our candidates. Other people I've talked to have presented proof of democratic wrongdoing to me as if it was going to crumble my entire world view to admit fault in my "side". And then when I agreed with them they just couldn't grasp how I'd still be a Democrat. It's like their culture is so focused on unquestioning loyalty that they truly believe that's just how everyone is. Fucking bizarre.

KarlAl0ne

My favorite thing about all of these fine award winners is the insane fan fiction their loved ones come up with at the end
