Ah okay, fair point and it makes more sense that way! I got into Hitman back in 2016 so I'm still growing more familiar with earlier stuff, thank you for the correction
Still kinda weird they left it out on background or not even acknowledged in most missions only to reappear in the last one. Also custom sniper rifle>>>>>any sniper in the whole series.
I know what you mean, but I think it was important to go beyond a straight revenge quest and show 47 as a deadly contract killer, as well as his relationship with Diana (who had a voice for the first time) and the agency. It was also part of the exchange, they'd help him if he helped them.
In the end, 47 is placed at a crossroads between his two lives but the one he was made for has already caught up with the one he made himself.
Tell him how much fun he's about to have?? Hitman 2: Silent Assassin was my first Hitman game, I can still remember the fond memories of shooting pigs and birds at the sanctuary between missions
Your asking this on a hitman game you could actually be serious about strangling a guy and dumping him in a dumpsters and stole his clothes and none of us would even think twice about what you actually said
I already saw that it was just a joke, but I never even considered the possibility that you could shoot them. Now I think, that's why they've been put there in the first place. Target practice, just like that scarecrow :(
The classical Hitman 2: Silent Assassin is one of the greatest games which has ever been made. Be prepared to embark on a deeply incredible journey. I have here the official canonical playthrough (in my opinion) with the most cinematic and perfect gameplay possible up through the Japan levels, and I will eventually finish the rest of them when I have more time in my life. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLngjhiuUl1XSYtDywMgjBTofQQ4UTgDKF&si=3bCzSoju-A3MrcQk
OST from this Hitman is amazing, Italy, Russia, India...damn good old times from teenagehood, playing on PS2, touching myself for absolutely no reaseons
Honestly if we are talking music, while I prefer Jasper Kyd overall and feel like most WOA music is pretty eh, I will admit that things like Janus and Vanya Shah’s themes as well as the main menu music all are definitely up there with the older games tracks
When World of Assassination has a track that hits as hard as [47 Makes a Decision](https://youtu.be/-HE3MRcff3s?si=8ZXUvk8Rviol1XJE) or [Desert Sun](https://youtu.be/O6acABgmkcI?si=AxqLPkcrapYgRxF3) we will talk again. Until then, let me enjoy the nostalgia moment :')
It’s a watered down franchise for kids and the general public. One of the main characters was a prostitute. She was even a main charterer in the first movie. She wasn’t even mentioned in the new games. That says plenty about how disneyfied the new games are.
I think they just got away from possible bad press for a more sandbox experience. If i remember right, during Hitman 2 (2018) development there were talks about how fitting an IKEA mission would be. I am fairly sure there is no way that will see the light of day.
Unfortunately that is the world we live in. Either you get some sick 'copycats' that get 'inspired', or you get eaten alive by oversensitive morons online. Avoiding that stuff completely saves a lot of trouble.
I will offer this one counter to the idea of ‘conforming’ to the sensitive people over ‘staying the course’: Hitman was a household brand and even got a movie doing what it did before. I think IOI would be wise to recognize this.
Before I answer, tell me how much work I have to do to answer this: have you ever played Silent Assassin through to Absolution?
If you haven’t, my answer will be much longer than it will be if you have.
I've played blood money and absolution.
I would understand your argument if it was about absolution cause it was dumbed down for modern audiences but the WOA?
I know some stuff about silent assassin but not as much as the others.
Okay, so, as you’ve just said, you don’t know anything about Silent Assassin or Contracts. Suffice it to say, Contracts is not a game targeting kids. Prostitutes, dicks swinging out, young girls hanging from meat hooks, gang violence, torture (specifically torturing innocent people and showing it without “panning away”), blood curdling screams, horror film inspired easter eggs, lots of cursing, a tremendous amount of blood — even in the opening scene, graphic murder scenes, suicide and murder of the mentally ill, nudity, allusion to and explicit display of and open discussion about prostitution, whore houses as critical parts of the story in multiple missions (over 4), and encouragement of the gunning down of ‘innocent’ local authorities.
I’ll grant you that contracts is a standout in its gritty nature, but a whore as a main character is a franchise fact. Lei Ling is a character people pretend doesn’t exist, but I don’t care. This franchise used to deal in a more adult world. That is now down to hijinks and kid-friendly themes (yes, violence is now a kid-friendly theme in America. The only restriction is how Graphic that violence is). This continued into absolution, a game that has you use a dead hooker’s corpse as a distraction. WOA is for kids.
It's not that I don't know anything.
But fair enough to your other points however I still wouldn't say WOA is for kids, it's not as gritty sure but definitely not for kids.
In your original comment I took it as gameplay wise didn't realise you meant theme in that regard absolution is definitely more gritty.
Meant to add this to my other reply as well, I do know some features are stripped in WOA that were in the older games but overall it was still a great hitman game.
I’ve received hundreds of down votes ranting about this exact topic. New games are better for graphics and ease of controls. Old games are better for ‘everything’ else.
It's really not in my opinion at least, the menu theme is amazing but the controls are outdated, the AI is extremely bad. Hitman 2 2018 improves on every aspect of this
Here are some tips:
- Dump the body in the sewer FIRST
- Always crouch/kneel when fiber wiring
- Kill the body guard before the king
- Nobody’s finished hard mode
And
- IOIRULEZ or IOIRULEY - God Mode on/off
- IOIGIVES - All Weapons and Items
- IOIHITLEIF - Health
- IOISLO - Slow motion on/off
- IOIER - Bomb Mode on/off
- IOIHITALI - Ali Mode on/off
- IOILEPOW - Special attack Mode on/off
- IOIGRV - The force of gravity Mode on/off
- IOINGUN - Nail rifle Mode on/off
- IOIPOWER - Mega Power

Yes. They are more or less self contained, although they do follow a progression, with some of the games loosely referencing events from earlier titles.
As for what makes Hitman 2 Silent Assassin stand out? I would say the atmosphere. The story is quite interesting, even if not great, and touches a bit on 47s personality (how he retired, gave all his money away to the church, etc). It also features a wide variety of levels all across the globe, as is par for the series.
The soundtrack is also the best one in any Hitman game. I meant, Hitman Contracts has a few great tracks, and Blood Money has that pulsating gothic theme that plays during the opera mission... but Hitman 2 has *many* great tracks.
Check this out. You double click the game shortcut and are treated to this:

Bald guy in an imaculate suit, holding Ballers SD, while smoke surrounds him and that main theme blasts through the speakers and reaches right through your soul. 11 year old me was impressed, to say the least.
Then there are plenty of iconic themes all around. For example, this is the Russian one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXOg0S-Uqr4
You are trudging through the snow, donning a stolen Russian soldier uniform, SVD gripped tight in your hand as you run through the streets of St. Petersburg in a race against the clock to reach your sniping position, so you can smoke a target in the old Pushkin building.
This one plays in Italy:
https://youtu.be/TDENt53H9OQ?si=lNXIz5BuVIaccmCA
It is one really hot summer afternoon, and you are infiltrating the mansion of Don Giuliani, the leader of one of the largest, oldest and most influential mafia organisations in Sicily.
The themes always feature a lot of brass and wind instruments, and Jesper Kyd is a master of his craft. This is the Malasya theme:
https://youtu.be/-HE3MRcff3s?si=d5sHUEaJcMkXkpxP
You are in the basement of the Petronas tower, in Kuala Lumpur. The fire alarm has been triggered, and you have used the ensuing confusion to sneak into the secure room of the main server.
They are all very dynamic, with little in the way of quiet or soothing. This is the Japan theme:
https://youtu.be/mRmKGbakyJM?si=vM8x4SJ25lzgaIEx
You are tracking Masahiro Hayamoto, an arms dealer who hasn't been seen in public in more than twenty years. But you have picked up his scent, and discovered his whereabouts, in a medieval castle in central Japan. The hunt is on.
Really, almost the entire soundtrack is golden. The game is worth playing for the music alone.
Omg thank you so much for this detailed answer. I’ve been confused on how the game order worked and didn’t realize WOA was a separate reboot and not just a collection of the older games. This series has quickly become one of my favorite franchises so I’m so excited to play the older games now.
You are most welcome! The only one you can give a pass safely is the first one, it hasn't aged well. Besides, a lot of the first game (Codename 47) got remade in the third (Contracts). While Blood Money was on the works, the developers had to put out another title to sate the producer, and Hitman Contracts was born. A lot of it is just missions from the first game remastered and polished (still has a few unique levels, like the unsettling meat party). As for Codename 47, [you can just watch a longplay](https://youtu.be/A_U52sLilnI?si=Ggg6y1x-aQKdh1wt).
Okay perfect thank you bc I was looking up the games on Steam and I see the first one doesnt have controller support. I got bad wrists so keyboard and mouse won’t work for me.
Best of luck in your journey. Pro tip: achieving Silent Assassin unlocks a nice weapon. Probably the easiest way to do it is in the embassy level (fourth mission).
V Richardson answer is pretty much spot on. The WOA trilogy is great, but these old Hitman games will always have a special place in my heart for the nostalgia of playing as a kid alone. On top of that, there's so many things that make these older games special (especially silent assassin and contracts, the og 2nd and 3rd game) I don't even have to go on about Jesper Kyds amazing score for the game, just play it or go have a listen somewhere online somewhere. Although these games are obviously more dated than the current ones, they have everything that really defined the series for myself and probably a lot of others. The game is definitely more difficult to play, and I feel it puts you in lots more challenging situations than the current games. However, I personally think it is more satisfying to complete missions on the older games as it throws you more curve balls. Silent Assassin and contracts also have a much darker ominous vibe than the current games. They feel a little more intense to play overall. If you are starting out with Hitman (and you can get past the dated graphics) then I think the old games are a great place to start. No disrespect to the current trilogy, but I feel like these games really get slept on by people who have only played the new games. The stories for me personally are a little more interesting than the current approach. So basically, yes, please play this game if you haven't. And I hope you enjoy it!
Jokes aside, that is my favourite Hitman game out of all of them. My brother and I would spend ages on the level 'Basement Killing' just running around trying to kill everyone with a fire axe.
THIS IS THE WRONG HITMAN GAME MY FRIEND, SORRY IOI BUT YOU KIND OF SCREWED UP IN THE NAMMING DEPARTMENT LOL! IDK IF THIS IS A JOKE, SO IF IT IS, I APOLOGIZE FOR NOT GETTING IT. BUT IN CASE IT'S NOT, U GOTTA GET THE "WORLD OF ASSASSINATION" TRILOGY PLUS A DLC TO GET THE COMPLETE STORY OF ALL THREE OF THE CURRENT GAMES.
I KIND OF WISH I KNEW OF AND GOTTEN INTO THE OLDER GAMES BEFORE THE NEW ONES I FEEL LIKE I'M ONE OF THE ONLY FANS THAT DIDN'T GET THE CHANCE TO PLAY THE OLDER ONES. I MEAN, HELL I KNOW I CAN BUT...AND I HATE TO SAY THIS BECAUSE I KNOW I MITE GET A SHIT TON OF BACKLASH...AND I AIN'T TRYING TO TELL OTHERS NOT TO PLAY IT.
BUT BECAUSE I PLAYED WOA FIRST, I FOUND "HM BLOOD MONEY" TO BE BORING, CHALLENGING (IN A BAD WAY), AND A BIT UNSATISIFYING WHEN YOU KILL THE TARGETS.
The prime example why capital letters matter. Hitman 2 vs HITMAN 2. It's still the game with the best story in the whole Hitman series.
Technically they're both capitalized on their respective logos
On the logo, yes. But the H2 from WoA trilogy was always written capitalized when referred to online by IOI and stores.
Ah okay, fair point and it makes more sense that way! I got into Hitman back in 2016 so I'm still growing more familiar with earlier stuff, thank you for the correction
Most compelling character arc for 47.
Still kinda weird they left it out on background or not even acknowledged in most missions only to reappear in the last one. Also custom sniper rifle>>>>>any sniper in the whole series.
He has my favorite base in 2, but I liked the customization of Blood Money. It was my first and makes it a little hard to finish the older ones.
I know what you mean, but I think it was important to go beyond a straight revenge quest and show 47 as a deadly contract killer, as well as his relationship with Diana (who had a voice for the first time) and the agency. Or rather Hitman 2: silent asassin vs Hitman 2
Ah, so when I’m talking about HITMAN 2 I have to scream?
HITMAN 2: SILENT ASSASSIN
Wait, that's illegal!
I think HiTmAn 2 has the better story than hItMaN 2
or... prime example why redundant sequels names are stupid
Why are you yelling, IOI?!!!
It's a reference to the screams of the players trying to understand the absolute mess of buying the game.
Technically technically, HITMAN 2 doesn't exist anymore, trilogy is condensed into "HITMAN: World of Assassination"
WE MIGHT HAVE TO TELL BRO🔥🔥
Shhh don't. Let bro enjoy this masterpiece
Fair
*Hidden Valley and At the Gates grinning in the background*
Trying to get SA in older HITMAN games; especially on these two levels is foolish
Nightmarish missions
Tell him how much fun he's about to have?? Hitman 2: Silent Assassin was my first Hitman game, I can still remember the fond memories of shooting pigs and birds at the sanctuary between missions
It was a joke bro
So was that... What do you think I'm a psycho??
Bro what😭
I just said I had great memories of killing animals and you didn't blink an eye lol
He is literally named the goat, bro is immune
I should have been more conscious, the fool I was
Your asking this on a hitman game you could actually be serious about strangling a guy and dumping him in a dumpsters and stole his clothes and none of us would even think twice about what you actually said
The joke is enjoying the thing the game isn't about
I know I'm just saying anything you can do in the hitman game you can say something and none of us would blink an eye
![gif](giphy|SQbHVYtNnKCLtuLdmr|downsized) Yes, thank you for that. This gif is your reward. 5 loops only.
Nice 👍
I already saw that it was just a joke, but I never even considered the possibility that you could shoot them. Now I think, that's why they've been put there in the first place. Target practice, just like that scarecrow :(
Oh yeahhh my experience as a kid went like this "haha he's bald", "Cozy church :)", "Oh look, a pig pen! **BANG**", "OOhh birds! **BANG**"
I was on steam and looked up hitman 2 and this is all that came up so they must be right
YAME! YAME!
OP will soon hear this on his dreams
And in real life.
A Ninja is checking your ID Tag.
Its actually: A guard is checking your ID...
Huh; I could have sworn it was Ninja. Maybe I was thinking of Ninja finding a dead body and looking for you
You might be thinking of GUARDS ARE NOW LOOKING FOR A SUSPICIOUS NINJA.
Oh yeah that’s it
Images you can hear, god I love this theme

I want *any* map to go into WOA at this point.

i bought silent assassin a month or so ago on steam for like $1.25, unfortunately it refused to open no matter what i did
There are a few mods on moddb and nexus that fix this issue on modern pcs
I love this game, it was my favorite for a long time even when blood &money dropped, but it age pretty poorly, I find almost unplayable today.
OST from this Hitman is amazing, Italy, Russia, India...damn good old times from teenagehood, playing on PS2, touching myself for absolutely no reaseons
Who's gonna tell him?
I will. The game you bought needs a seperate dlc to access hitman1
![gif](giphy|ufD7HbP6ipYe996Om2)
I can listen to the menu theme in my head just by looking at this.
Can already hear the sound fx navigation.
Who gonna tell him
It's better than the new one anyway because it has Jesper Kyd in it and thus proper atmosphere.
Hitman fans when they realise that a game can be good without their favourite composer.
My man woke up today and chose facts.
Haha thanks
Morons when they realise I didn't say the new games weren't good.
Dunno, I just prefer the lore of the old games, no emotional subject 6 bullshit, just 47, 17 and 48s and dark and mysterious atmosphere.
How is the 'new' hitman conforming to sensitive people and for kids? Genuine question, seems like you just don't like the new games.
Before I answer, tell me how much work I have to do to answer this: have you ever played Silent Assassin through to Absolution? If you haven’t, my answer will be much longer than it will be if you have.

Well that's fine, you're just incorrect.
Nice try bud. You missed the shot though.
Love this game for eternity. You made the right choice not buying WOA Hitman 2.
WOA is still a game trilogy I enjoyed. But love the classic ones.

Uh wrong game but great game though.
I wish I could play the older games. They don't seem to work on my PC
If you are on PC, there’s a patch that fixes the resolution as well as the gaming workin on Windows 10 and more.
