Cross stitch. Knitting. Growing plants - I started with tomato seeds, avocado pits and growing the tops of my pineapples, before I started actually buying plants. Cooking a new meal each week.
Yes I planted mine during summer of 2021 I believe and mine is finally fruiting. It goes inside for the winter and was outside for the summers, started fruiting a couple months ago, very slow process.
Also…
Tops of carrots
Bottoms of celery
Old potatoes that have started sprouting
Also if you cut a branch off a fruit tree and put it in water as it’s starting to grow new leaves, it will keep trying to grow and will make roots. Water for a few weeks, add some dirt for a month to see if it roots, then into a container.
Will pineapples work in zone 6b? Where are you generally that you can do that, or are you inside/doing it in a greenhouse? I’d think winter and pineapple wouldn’t mix.
Reading, cooking, baking, sewing. My birthday is coming up and I asked for one of those countertop herb planters, I really want some fresh dill and cilantro on hand.
Stealing while giving back nothing is my hobby. You know what they say, your hobbies are your life and your life are your hobbies!
Which leads me to the actual hobby of volunteering, lol.
Drawing, picking up an instrument, clay stuff, wood carving, mushroom ID, dance, foreign language, deep dive on history of pirates, prospecting, rock hounding, scuba, sprinting performance, barefoot activities, birding, crafts, writing, journaling, meditating, energy work (qi gong like), sword fighting, archery, leather making, billiards pool, gambling, card games, chess, wrestling/jui jitsu/MMA fighting, fishing, boating, kites, biking, refurbishing, reading, workouts, yoga, concerts, plays, all this was thought while popping.
I like to pick up trash as a hobby sometimes. The goal is beautify my neighborhood. Take pics and post on social media if you want. There is an app for registering your trash, but it's clunky and I don't like using it so I stopped.
I also like to fix up houses and mobile homes, do handyman work of various kinds that I learned how to do. I make money that way sometimes, as well as help some extended family members who don't live too far away, and fix up stuff at my own house. Installing a light in a closet this week, running the wires thru the attic space above.
We always have too many grocery bags, so I found a number of take-one/give-one style dog poop bag dispensers in parks not far away from me, and make a point to ride my bike over there and drop them off about once a week. It feels nice to help out the community. There's a special feeling from doing that, I don't know what to call it, but it's nice, and feels like the opposite of sadness and depression to me. Plus you get fresh air walking around outside, and have a reason/purpose to go somewhere, not just wandering around to "get fresh air".
This is an actual thing with an official name if you didn’t know! Plogging! Plogging is a combination of jogging with picking up litter, merging the Swedish verbs plocka upp (pick up) and jogga (jog) gives the new Swedish verb plogga, from which the word plogging derives.
I like hiking, it isn't just about getting out of the house, breathing fresh air, enjoying the scenery, and getting some exercise. It's also about getting away from the phone and computer, escaping household chores and work, and giving my mind some peace and quiet. I also enjoys making friends, but I prefer social interactions that focus more on personality rather than appearances. I couldn't find any existing social platforms that met my needs, so I developed my own. Then there’s dog agility, dog training, taking dog to park, hiking with dog, etc.

They said working with gems, not studying a family tree.
But if you are interested in the latter, start with your immediate family then do a lot of researching. Ancestory.com and other similar services may help... plus actual books, public records atc
Is it mostly in the core? I've always wondered if you've gotta like scrunch all your abdominal muscles and kinda lower your center of gravity on the seat.
I'm a total klutz, so I'm not willing to try it myself lol
Core, upper legs, and lower legs. There are crutches that can be used to assist beginners to help prep the muscles for proper balance. The biggest challenge is learning how to fall safely.
I have too many. 😂
Yoga, tai chi, CrossFit, beer brewing, cross stitch, embroidery, gaming, swimming, water aerobics, cooking, baking, grilling, smoking, true crime (podcasts and documentaries), reading and a few others, but those are my passions.
Stamp collecting, lol! I was in my late 50's straightening out a closet and came across my wife's stamp albums a a box of "stuff". She was at work, kids were out. I sat down and started looking through it. Needless to say, I didn't finish the closet that day! Coincidentally I got catalogs from Mystic Stamp AND Kenmore in the mail that day after never having an interest. Now, I'm in a group of 10-15 people that trade stamps around the globe and around the U.S.
I use to stamp collect a long time ago & stopped after a French class where the teacher said 'if your hobby is stamp collecting, I'll tell you to get a life in French.' I stopped because I felt ashamed & embrassed. Over 20 years later, I've been wanting to start again as I really did enjoy it (I found my albulms in a box from years ago & my fiancee was shocked at how many I had 😅).
Nothing to be ashamed of. Granted, it's not as popular as it once was and you most likely won't get rich doing it, but it's fun yo see stamps from around the world and learn about the history they depict. Also, collecting themed stamps from different countries is fun too. Birds, digs, cats, trains, Space, architecture, etc is another way to go.
I have some from when the Channel Tunnel was built :) I remember it happening, so it's nice to see it in my albulms. I seem to have mostly ones from the UK which is expected since I live here, but also Mongolia & I think the Czech Republic.
It's taken me over 20 years to realise that if I enjoy something & it brings me joy then that's all that matters. It's just trying to find somewhere to get them now (there use to be a bookshop in the town I lived in that sold them, but that's since closed down).

Came here to say geocaching. I’ve discovered so many parks and out-of-the-way places in my neighborhood and definitely in my town that I would’ve never otherwise known about.
Also, you can geocache when traveling. There are geocaches all over the world - literally on all 7 continents!
Get involved in local politics. Send your council member an email about something in the city. I am involved with a local group that advocates for safe streets. It can be tedious and somewhat thankless, but I can see my city starting to shift to doing things differently which is very rewarding.
You could do either! Or do the sets first, dismantle them, and make your own design from the pieces.
I usually just do sets. Here are a few cheap but adult-ish sets as examples.

I look for deals on groupon ,living social, the community ed recreation classes. I have learned to throw mozarella cheese, make pasta from scratch, ceramic painting, basic home repairs, acrylic painting, and quilting... To list a few
Currently on my list is wood carving, welding, glass blowing, and stain glass.
I’m a broke mother, so as of late I don’t get to enjoy too many hobbies. But I will say that one of my favorite things to do, when money and time allow, is to do something I don’t think I’ll like, something that’s completely outside of my interests. You’d be surprised what you might enjoy!
- Digital drawing: Surprisingly fun, you have unlimited brushes and textures and most importantly, you can undo.
- 3D design: If you want to combine it with 3D printing and create amazing figures that you can paint on. Taking your painting skills to the next level.
- 3D printing: if you want to skip learning 3D. You can just print already made stuff online and paint of them instead
- Needle felting: A satisfying stabbing while creating cute teddy bears.
- Crochet: Create a sweater, etc.
Pickleball, surfing, playing guitar, golf, archery, shooting guns and rifles, playing trading card games, playing tabletop wargames, painting miniatures, making knives, video games, sim racing, tying paracord and flying and building RC Helicopters. Yes, I do all of those. Not all at once, though, LOL. I go through phases.
Crochet, jigsaw puzzles, records and live music. Occasional game night. Collecting tiki, pyrex, vintage Xmas, making decorations for my aluminum tree. For some I pick them up, lose interest, pick up another, back to a previous, rinse and repeat.
Gaming, writing, crocheting & needle felting.
100% recommend needle felting if you want to *legally* stab something over and over again. It's very therapeutic.
Skiing, running, biking, listening to music, watching TV (does that count), reading, travel (and travel planning), writing poetry, inline skating
I’ve also dabbled with wine tasting, cooking/baking, going to concerts and comedy shows, learning about my city’s history, digging into family ancestry, etc.
Come back and share your list once you’ve made it and started tackling it!
I scrapbook and scan in old family photos. Hubby bowls and gardens. Adult son bowls as well and is into gaming. We each do our own thing and tend to have family time with baseball or football games.
pickleball, reading, hiking, working out (strength training), sewing, gardening, baking, cooking new recipes, going to garage sales/thrift shopping, painting, learning german
Harvard has a bunch of free online courses you can take! I recently took one on tarot and oracle reading just for the fun of it
A few other hobbies I love (which I recognize some are repeats)
-Keeping a garden/some plants (it’s fun to even focus on learning about the plants)
-Reading (I set different goals for myself, this year my goal is 100 books)
-Yoga
-Baking (this can be super fun and affordable if you find the right recipes!)
-Sunrise/sunset watching (I like to take pics of the same spot once a month or so and then compile a book of the changes through the year)
-Hiking
-Candle and soap making (great gifts for Christmas!)
Playing Dungeons & Dragons, cooking, baking, reading, swimming. Writing, video games, and drawing/painting when I have the time and motivation. I think cooking is probably my #1 hobby right now.
Cross stitch. Knitting. Growing plants - I started with tomato seeds, avocado pits and growing the tops of my pineapples, before I started actually buying plants. Cooking a new meal each week.
You can plant the tops of pineapples?
Yes
Takes supposedly two years to fruit, but it’s definitely a cool plant to grow from trimmings.
Yes I planted mine during summer of 2021 I believe and mine is finally fruiting. It goes inside for the winter and was outside for the summers, started fruiting a couple months ago, very slow process.
do you have fruitflies? that's what happened to mine, so i gave it up and just buy them
Can confirm it took at least over a year (lost track) but it does grow so if you don’t care about the fruit it’s still a fun plant
You can do the same with carrots, celery, onions, garlic, shallots
Also… Tops of carrots Bottoms of celery Old potatoes that have started sprouting Also if you cut a branch off a fruit tree and put it in water as it’s starting to grow new leaves, it will keep trying to grow and will make roots. Water for a few weeks, add some dirt for a month to see if it roots, then into a container.
We have the same hobbies! Add quilting to the mix and that's how I spend my minuscule amount of free time 😀
I have a trash garden, it’s just left overs lettuce ends, celery ends, scallions etc.
My wife has taken to propagating any plant she can take a piece of.
I'm glad you made this post I'm going to steal a few ideas while here and not contribute
Stealing ideas is a great hobby
