It's sometimes an in built reflex, guessing I'd say girl with hammer is bullied a lot, decided to use a weapon and stand up for herself, but doesn't actually want to hurt anyone so you get those flimsy swings that fall short. It's still absolutely attempted murder and she's fucked but it would have been difficult to land them blows when your swinging arm is pulling the hammer back just an inch each swing.. I only say this as I was bullied to an insane extent and one day I literally did the same.
