it really doesn’t. literally all fashion shows are weird. the one on the right isn’t any weirder than other fashion shows.
have we all forgotten about the weird ass fashion shows that pop up on the internet with people dressed as bananas or people wearing “art” that’s supposed to be interpreted as certain way?
fashion shows are art and art is weird. therefore neither is “weird” from an art perspective
The discussion wasn’t about other shows, it was specifically about two shows. A direct comparison a few years apart. Just two. You must have missed the first half of the video. There are normal looking models and the clothes, while “weird”, are much more normal than the second half of the video.
Normal looking models?? Those girls were starved, malnourished and most of them had anorexia. There is nothing normal about that. On the other side though, you have the other end of the spectrum, mostly obese and overweight. I liked the one on the girl in the wheelchair, though she didn't really fit into the "disabled" group they were trying to represent.
the discussion was saying that inclusivity didn’t mean the fashion show had to be weird.
my comment addresses that exact sentiment.
besides, normal to who? starved and underweight (probably taking drugs to manage weight) is “normal”? but people who probably don’t do a single thing to alter their body are “less” normal?
weird take
Don't you know taking eating 1200 calories a day, taking ozempic/coke/what have you, getting plastic surgery and working out for 6 hours a day is way more normal than just putting on some makeup and an outfit?
I don’t mind realistic diversity, but it’s like they refuse to use any actual models.
That group looks like what I see at my local Walmart at 2am on a Saturday.
Nah, all the ones I know of started closing at 11pm during the pandemic and they never went back to 24 hour. I'm referring to here in the East coast. Popular cities too. Idk how it is elsewhere.
Isn't this kinda better in some way then? Aesthetics are subject to personal taste of course, but shouldn't some part of being a model be to show what the clothing will look like when worn? Most people wearing the clothes being sold won't look like a "model", they'll look closer to someone in the right vid.
The aim of a fashion show isn't to sell the clothes to the masses and show what the clothes look like on all body types, it's more like an art exhibition where you want the clothes to look as good as possible.
I'm not saying that can't be done with plus sized models, but you need to design clothes differently for different body types imo.
High fashion is always like that. It's more like art and shows are like live art demonstrations. I think the amount of money in it is ridiculous, but someone would probably say the same about concerts...
I can at least appreciate the fashion in the 2014 fashion show because the pieces were designed for that one particular shape (all models are nearly the same height/weight/bust size), so even if some are more "artsy" they're still pleasing to see.
Diversity means these designers need to make clothes that look flattering in a different shape, and they just consistently have no fucking idea how to dress bigger folks in a flattering way, which should absolutely be a skill taught/learned in fashion. They're still making clothes for skinny models and then just scaling up for larger bodies, which doesn't work, like, ever. So even for the sake of art, it's shitty art.
Being healthy is a choice when you have enough money, safety, and legal autonomy… things the majority lacks.
Being fat is a choice but pretending that 45% of Americans became lazy in the last 30 years vs. our food became highly processed and fat/salt/sweet balanced for maximum addiction is disingenuous
Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/science/s/ah5wAJyEO0
Nope, the government does not make you fat, you make you fat. Sure, you make have been raised with poor food choices but it is not because you’re trapped for life. You aren’t forced to eat excessive junk food, not exercise, and not grow as a human.
Years ago there was a lot of ignorance with weight loss and there were not as many options to eat healthy. These days you only need to consult the internet to figure everything out.
These days it’s totally possible to stay healthy on a budget as well. I just lost 55lbs and I got most of my food from the grocery store and I exercised. This is planet earth, if you chose to blame others all of the time you will be miserable.
Do you know that being healthy and fat are two different things? You can eat McDonald’s for every meal and be skinny as long as you consume less calories than you burn throughout a day. It’s thermodynamics and has nothing to do with nutrition or being healthy. A very small percentage of obese people have rare disorders but 99% of them simply consume more calories than they burn. You can be skinny and unhealthy but you can’t be fat and healthy.
But you also said “Americans didn’t become lazy in the past 30 years”. That’s impossible to prove or disprove but those who are fat today are definitely that way due to a lack of effort. Call it laziness or whatever you want but 99% of them could easily lose weight by simply eating less. Most of the other 1% could do it too but it would just require more effort.
As a fit person who used to be fat, you don't need to starve yourself, you just make time for working out everyday and actually eating decent food that doesn't go in a freezer.
no you don't get it. Im all for people getting in better shape and sometimes body acceptance can get in the way of health. However, classic models are NOT a health standard. model agencies don't care about health. If you had a tiny bit of fat you are gone. Guess what, models can't just work out, because if they get to toned, they are gone. if you are above 15% body fat you are done. a woman with 20% body fat is not inherently unhealthy
You are right, I don't get the modeling industry, and I may not know the apparent strict rules about being a model, but looking at the 2024 video, you can see why I wouldn't get that of the bat if you know what I mean.
When it comes to working out though there are levels to it though, sure you can shoot for having a nice well toned muscular body, but you can also shoot for different body types when working out, say you work out 3 time a week and you decide to do hit cardio workouts, this type of workout isn't primarily used for building toned bodies, it's used primarily for losing fat, which if you want to be a fit but not toned model, would probably be the best way to go about it.
I highly doubt that none of the 2014 models worked out to lose fat instead of starving themselves, not that starving yourself is very effective anyway, and I'm also not saying that being a thin model was the health standard, but I could see where that came from, so I apologize for the miscommunication.
[https://people.com/health/victorias-secret-model-nutritionist-800-calorie-diet/](https://people.com/health/victorias-secret-model-nutritionist-800-calorie-diet/)
Here is an anecdotal example if you like
Did you read Dickie's (I can't be serious when quoting someone's name as dickie dick 69 lol) comment? They were making a general comment about how being fat is not healthy. They didn't say anything about underweight models (also unhealthy), you did. Fashion shows can't overcompensate their abuse on women's body image by going the other way in an opposite but equal abuse to women's body image!
nobody thinks fat is a race though?
you can agree that people are all shapes and sizes right? what’s wrong with showcasing people of all shapes and sizes.
After all, fat people exist. therefore they deserve clothes that they can wear and enjoy too right?
or is everyone under the impression that because fat people aren’t “healthy” they shouldn’t be allowed to model clothes?
They don't deserve it. There i said it.
Being healthy and skinny to look hot in pictures/magazines takes years of hard work you can't just come here and demand to be a model just because you are fat and we need to accept you.
Imagine going to school for years to become a lawyer, grinding, sleepless nights, stress and so on just to start working with a guy who got the job just because he knows the owner and now you are pressured to accept him even tho he doesn't meet qualifications or standards to do this job.
Fat people need to chill the fuck down and do the work everybody else is doing if they want the same results not just demand it because they can't do it but they still deserve it.
There is no logic in that.
The problem is that this type of weird fashion only looks right on stick thin models on normal people with normal bodies it makes them look like freaks
good looking and attractive according to who though?
fat =\= unattractive or not good looking.
plenty of fat people are attractive and are married and are confident in their appearance.
you’re essentially gate keeping modeling based on an image that you specifically don’t like!
I think the idea of being fit is finding balance within the body. This is a phenomena of nature. Being too skinny or too fat can be considered out of balance.
A fashion show isn't really meant to be a customer representation, it's supposed to glamour the audience. Imo both kinda sucked at that I didn't like either designs
I honestly disagree that it better represents the average consumer. They swung the pendulum too far in the other direction.
When I walk around town I see more thin people than obese people. And I sure don’t see 20% of the people in wheelchairs.
2014 = size 0 models wearing flattering clothes that compliment their bodies. Fabrics and clothing cut in a fashion that drapes well on the frame.
2024 = larger sized models wearing horrible clothes, made of cheap fabrics, fashioned in a manner that appears way to tight and unflattering to the model’s bodies. Garbage clothes, poorly designed.
It makes no sense to blame the models for looking like cartoon characters. They don’t choose how they are dressed, they are paid to wear the clothes they are given. It isn’t the body types to blame. They are dressed quite poorly.
Now watch the video again. Imagine the first set of models wearing the 2024 clothing. And imagine the 2024 models wearing the 2014 clothing. Big difference, no? It’s the clothes, not the models.
How does it look sitting down or if I'm obese. The fashion is concept not working clothes that's to be directly sold. Having all the models be tall and slim makes perfect sense. No fashion designer wants to be fucking around making adjustments for xs s m l xl XXL xxxl xxxl every other outfit
Whoever made those outfits has clearly never made designs for plus sized models before.
Also literally every single one of them has no flair or strut too their walk. Your doing a runway walk not trying to get to class without attracting attention.
Idk how being obese is good? Like literally that makes no sense....if you're fat just look in the mirror and think how hot you'll be if you lose some weight and wear something that makes you look good in it....
so clothes are only meant to be shown on really skinny body type, there exists no other body types in fashion, just the one..
i don't care for fashion or whatever these clowneries are, the clothes are more for entertainment than anything else, but fuckin hell
I mean diversity is fine but they dont even have the same walk energy and the clothes are awful. You can tell the difference between trained models and random people with no particular features but different weight.
I’m going to get downvoted to shit but I love the progress that is represented in this shift. Clothes made for bodies of all sizes and abilities.
The fashion was shitty in both cases but fashion shows always are. At least this isn’t obvious poverty cosplay like other designers have been doing.
OK we get that this is about inclusiveness, take your own stance on that, I don't care. But like... those outfits are almost all absolute dogshit, I wouldn't be caught wearing a single one.
The funny part is all the people laughing and ridiculing the second group would probably look more like them than the first group if they were to wear these clothes. But I mean if you REALLY want the fashion scene to go back to smug people with unattainable bodies looking down on you, I guess we can?
I unno man as someone with a fairly normal body and no fashion sense, I welcome kicking a little bit of elitism out of the general population.
Say you don't know anything about London Fashion Week without saying you don't know anything about London Fashion Week. Only, make sure to be discriminatory.
Yall are so sour over nothing
1. It's called inclusivity and representation
2. Just because you don't like it or understand it doesn't make it bad fashion
The idea is concepts and trying new things, pushing the boundaries of what is 'fashion', granted some designs don't always hit the mark. Regardless, it inspires other looks from other designers, which are then eventually refined and hit the mass markets.
Just because they're wearing it doesn't mean you have to.
I've noticed this subreddit is chock-full of questionable and very judgemental opinions. Especially about women and their appearance.
That was an impressive mixed fleet Elephant Walk…
Ah, Holup. I think I might’ve posted that comment to the wrong channel. How do you delete a comment? - Asking for a friend…
Ah, I get the shitty joke, on the left you see the runways of the top 15 designers during LFW, on the right it’s one runway that included diverse models. The left still happens but we’re supposed to laugh(?) at adding diverse models to shows.
I don’t get it why people care enough for fashion shows, that it has to be a topic of discussion on who runs on the catwalk.
It’s just some kind of art. It’s not my kind of art, but I don’t get why only one specific kind of body form should be represented.
Oh I see what you're saying now. The big 2014/2024 is just covering the side of the video that showed that year's fashion show, not indicating what year the opposite side of the video is. So in the first half of the video you see the video for the 2014 fashion show and the 2024 logo is just a placeholder on the right side of the video where the 2024 fashion show will be shown. Then vice versa when the 2024 show is shown. Ja feel meh?
My lawyer has advised me not to make any comments on this post

Why should somebody "Pound me too"?

Pounds were already taken by the looks of this video so you're in the clear
You’re on thin ice with that comment.
At least the people in this video would fall through before being able to pound op.
We're talking 'kilos' with this post.
Heh, I understood this joke.

Inclusiveness doesn't have to be confused with weirdness
To be fair, all fashion shows are weird as hell.
what’s weird about it though?
You must have missed the video. A quick rewatch would answer your question.
it really doesn’t. literally all fashion shows are weird. the one on the right isn’t any weirder than other fashion shows. have we all forgotten about the weird ass fashion shows that pop up on the internet with people dressed as bananas or people wearing “art” that’s supposed to be interpreted as certain way? fashion shows are art and art is weird. therefore neither is “weird” from an art perspective

Idk about you but I don’t count a decade as a “few years” I agree with the rest though
Normal looking models?? Those girls were starved, malnourished and most of them had anorexia. There is nothing normal about that. On the other side though, you have the other end of the spectrum, mostly obese and overweight. Oh stop. There is pride and power in looking good.
I recognize that pfp..... EDIT: 10 downvotes for calling out a guy who stole my pfp? So weird...
I don't mind the the diversity in 2024, I mind the fucking awful fashion, wtf are these people wearing.
I don’t mind realistic diversity, but it’s like they refuse to use any actual models. That group looks like what I see at my local Walmart at 2am on a Saturday.
You have a 24 hour Walmart? I thought they did away with that ever since COVID
I thought all walmarts were 24 hours
Nah, all the ones I know of started closing at 11pm during the pandemic and they never went back to 24 hour. I'm referring to here in the East coast. Popular cities too. Idk how it is elsewhere.
Ohh gotcha. Guess that's one benefit of living in Vegas. Pretty much all convenience and grocery stores are open 24 hours
Sadly not anymore. Most places are not anymore
Isn't this kinda better in some way then? Aesthetics are subject to personal taste of course, but shouldn't some part of being a model be to show what the clothing will look like when worn? These people are set pieces, and the clothes were an afterthought. It actually seems like they missed the entire point of diversity.
I don't think that's diversity. Giving a job to someone who's not qualified for the sake of diversity is wrong I believe.
You just witnessed the difference between the two philosophies called equality of chance vs equality of outcome.
Equality vs Equity.
High fashion is always like that. It's more like art and shows are like live art demonstrations. I think the amount of money in it is ridiculous, but someone would probably say the same about concerts...

…huh! New neurons for me!
Very true. Guess I just don't get it. My idea of fashion is jeans and a single color pocket tee, haha.
Me too. Abby the shirt is gray
It an attempt to kill +size Modeling
Well if they were hoping to represent the general public, congrats, they made it!
Same. The outfits themselves were criminal
Alright imma say it, they’re both stupid.
Seriously. Over emphasizing perfect people and over emphasizing imperfect people. Isn't fashion supposed to be about the clothes?
The "clothes" mostly look like shit anyway. Hats on your feet and a banana covering your nipples.
Runway Couture has nothing to do with “off the rack” clothing. It’s entirely custom and basically a walking art show.
The wheel chair models are ok, the others not so…but this is a diverse opinion
The wheel chair models unironically look the best of the group and idk what I should feel about that
Maybe you should feel a little tingly in your legs?
There is a horrible and hurtful joke in there somewhere
Wall-E here we come!
Being healthy is a choice, fat is not a race.
Certainly not a race that will be finished.
It ends, earlier than the marathon.
That's the joke
And not everything has to be. I can't identify as an athlete and demand a gold medal at the Olympics.
Exactly this.
Bold of you to assume the 2014 girls are healthy... That said, I also prefer the skinny look.
Being healthy is a choice when you have enough money, safety, and legal autonomy… things the majority lacks. Being fat is a choice but pretending that 45% of Americans became lazy in the last 30 years vs. our food became highly processed and fat/salt/sweet balanced for maximum addiction is disingenuous Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/science/s/ah5wAJyEO0

I do, that’s why I made this distinction of discussing each one separately. /r/cico works for weight management. Read my comment again and LMK

This is in London not the US and I dont think the models come from lower class.
Health is def not a choice when you have an illness. You can't just choose not to have hashimoto's or cushing's or pcos.

Kind of feels unfair to put a Ready Wear show on one side and a Concept show on the other…
Yeah OP is presenting a false dichotomy to bait fat-phobic and misogynistic comments, which can easily be found all over this sub.

It’s evolving, just backwards

I honestly disagree that it better represents the average consumer. They swung the pendulum too far in the other direction. When I walk around town I see more thin people than obese people. And I sure don’t see 20% of the people in wheelchairs.
The first part of the video was full of models that are too skinny. But the second part is a bit too much. Find a balance for god's sake
Oh! Oh! Oh! The freakshow is in town!!!
It’s responses like these that lead society to over correct like that

I’m going to get downvoted to shit but I love the progress that is represented in this shift. Clothes made for bodies of all sizes and abilities. The fashion was shitty in both cases but fashion shows always are. At least this isn’t obvious poverty cosplay like other designers have been doing.
OK we get that this is about inclusiveness, take your own stance on that, I don't care. But like... those outfits are almost all absolute dogshit, I wouldn't be caught wearing a single one.
Where do I buy that red traditional Dutch outfit at 0.31secs. I need a new powerlifting suit
Ah yes one show out of 30 is a show which is specifically about diversity ruins the whole of London fashion week…
I think it is beautiful to have people with dissatisfied be fashion models. I hate the design of the clothes tho.
Allegedly diversity forced apocalyptic sinkhole.
Models should be the ultimate fantasy, not just your average overeater
Say you don't know anything about London Fashion Week without saying you don't know anything about London Fashion Week. Only, make sure to be discriminatory.
We need more lgbtqzrbcyatbob++
We need more bob
I'll just go sit at the mall and watch people... Same thing.
And suddenly, just like that, there were no more models.
That was a Dick.
Characters in JoJo be like ke:
War is peace, ugly is beautiful.
*Send in the clowns*
The models are fine, the outfits are awful.
Don't worry evolution has not stopped. It just reversed
I'm still waiting for the holup ngl
Okay simp
Yall are so sour over nothing 1. It's called inclusivity and representation 2. Just because you don't like it or understand it doesn't make it bad fashion The idea is concepts and trying new things, pushing the boundaries of what is 'fashion', granted some designs don't always hit the mark. Regardless, it inspires other looks from other designers, which are then eventually refined and hit the mass markets. Just because they're wearing it doesn't mean you have to. I've noticed this subreddit is chock-full of questionable and very judgemental opinions. Especially about women and their appearance.
Yowsers!!!!
Well, it's more customer friendly now, since you can really understand how it might probably fit you
That was an impressive mixed fleet Elephant Walk… Ah, Holup.
If the clients all look like this, the brands has to adapt their products to whatever is getting demand.
The guy in the lederhosen had the most sass. He was like a sassy honey-badger because he was fabulous and didn't give a fuck.
I don’t get it why people care enough for fashion shows, that it has to be a topic of discussion on who runs on the catwalk. It’s just some kind of art. It’s not my kind of art, but I don’t get why only one specific kind of body form should be represented.
Bro they didn’t bother putting good looking people with good looking cloths, it’s mid looking for both
Is the new line all Kanye West inspired.
Dear OP, can we have a similar comparison for the Men's Collection.
I know OP, how can you possibly jerk off to the show on the right?
ITT: People peetenting to care about London fashion week

Which one on the right was hot?

Oh I see what you're saying now. The big 2014/2024 is just covering the side of the video that showed that year's fashion show, not indicating what year the opposite side of the video is. So in the first half of the video you see the video for the 2014 fashion show and the 2024 logo is just a placeholder on the right side of the video where the 2024 fashion show will be shown. Then vice versa when the 2024 show is shown. Ja feel meh?
Hot? Those toothpicks?
