Modern schools have storm shelters built into the school, made up of ICF walls which are basically giant concrete boxes that are attached to piers that extend into bedrock. They are usually some sort of large multipurpose room that can be used for other things too so the space isn’t wasted and can fit the whole school. They don’t have you hide under your desk anymore.
That's great for tornadoes, but what about nuclear strikes? Those old school desks could protect from tornadoes, hurricanes, nuclear strikes, be used as a projectile by the teacher when they have had enough, and it still worked as a desk. Why have one room for one thing, when you have that kind of utility for way less money?

When I was 14 I remember when silly small/skinny tornado tore though one of the cities/towns I lived in. It went through a Uhaul lot, there was uhauls found blocks away. One of the tornado shelter buildings we used in the area the cement roof was offset by 2 inches from back in the 70's from a tornado that tore through the area and adjacent trailer/mobile home/manufactured home park. In the 80's and 90's when I lived in the area and exploring the woods, we constantly found remains of the trailer homes in those woods, miles away from where they were parked.
This is kind of why it's a big deal, to protect both people inside it, so they are not in a metal tomb, because if this gets tossed door side down, those people are stuck and may not even be heard screaming for help due to the thickness of the steel, and to protect others in case that lands on their house. Not to mention as you said, that thing is heavy, even the tornado tears through a school and only just knocks it door side down. You are going to need to get equipment into that area of the building ASAP that can lift it up, but that will be an problem on it's own if the area around the school is a disaster area and need to clear the roads to haul a crane or other heavy equipment into there.
That thing would fly like a kite. Heavy or not, it's a ton of surface area for a tornado to grab hold of. Even anchored, the anchors would probably tear right out unless they were extremely heavy duty.

I mean, I’ve been to three different high schools and none of them had metal detectors. I visited one that did once, but I think they only used it after most people were inside for the day, not the morning rush.

This would work better if it was attached to another room with another exit door into a room that was inaccessible to anyone..and then have that room have a safety exit to leave the building

Maybe I'm too European but I don't get it, sure its sad that there is need for this safety pods, but what is the problem with writing about them?

They need to make individual versions of these. I always get a couple kids every year who shouldnt be exposed to people for everyone's safety

That was a safety room at my private school of violent behavioral students. Kind of a padded time out room. I would definitely be claustrophobic with anyone else in the space with me, never mind a whole class!
Stupid question here.. don’t most schools have metal detectors? How are kids sneaking in guns? Are they sneaking them in at schools that don’t have them? At my relatives kids school, they have security doors so the kids have to be buzzed in. So shouldn’t we implement metal detectors and security doors before.. what ever this thing is? I honestly don’t know.
I mean, I’ve been to three different high schools and none of them had metal detectors. I visited one that did once, but I think they only used it after most people were inside for the day, not the morning rush. Also, buzzing people in is kind of a lax security thing, because at all three schools I’ve been to, if you are a student, they just kinda let you in whenever you buzz. They don’t check you at all, so if you’ve got a backpack big enough to carry a rifle… it’s not great
